Update: After 3 attempts, 4 ziploc bags, and about 50 F-Bombs of my own, it worked like a charm! Drinking my cappuccino right now actually. I should also note that I do not have a nespresso, but a delonghi machine, this cleared the vapour lock. THANK YOU! Hilarious! You had me cracking up with each F bomb! Glad you were successful in the end and now to try this trick on my own machine! Here goes!
Ok, this is the winner! Bought a second hand machine for cheap, so I was determined to make it work. After doing the ziploc bag, taking it apart and squeezing the intake hose together, continuously removing the water reservoir over and over and OVER again…this worked. Was on the brink of giving up because I didn’t think I had a syringe. Turns out I had the same exact one from CVS 😂. Used it, and got it on the first try. Ran it on just water a few times. And now I’m a about to go make myself a Frappuccino ❤😊🎉
Hello Shane. My beloved Romeo Nespresso of 20+ years experienced an air pocket this morning and I thought it was finally time to say goodbye to my original Nespresso. Until I watched your video. Enjoyed your video immensely with your persistence. Following your idea, fixed my air pocket in 2 minutes. With one adjustment. Add water to the bag AFTER it is inserted into the water reservoir. Thanks for saving me $300! Think I will hang onto my Romeo for another 20 years.
It's not a air pocket , it's debris in the pump assembly. Lmao. This method is equivalent to forcing air with a plunger. Better solution is to have someone get in there and fix it properly. High pressure is not good for these consumer class machines .
I was just about to give up on this method from other you tubers when I saw this! Old Aldi machine I rescued from work post-lockdown. Frustrating as hell but I inflated a balloon and put in inside the bag and shoved with all my might - the balloon didnt pop as easily as the bag. Worked after about 5 attempts and trying different water levels. Cheers for that!
I watched this while drinking my coffee this morning and nearly blew coffee out my nose laughing so hard. Thanks for the morning's entertainment. Now I can start my day off right.
Thank you! I tried every other video/trick on RUclips including the ziplock method ..1.5hrs later .. your method was the only one to work (first attempt might I add!) bcs of your method of taking off the water lid and pushing down the ziplock as it began to run 🙏🏼 others showed just stuffing it in there but when I pushed the sealed ziplock down it immediately ran. Woohoo coffee!
OMG this actually worked. I just used it on my old Aldi Expressi Machine that had been in storage. Could not figure out why water was not pumping through. Had already tried another vid where I pulled a side panel off and tried to unblock the actual hose inside the machine but that did nothing, tried this and BAM worked heard a pop as I pushed the ziplock bag through and the water started flowing again. Amazing!!
OMG - this worked! I was ready to put my Nespresso D150 (a relic, I know but I love it) in the trash bin but thought I'd google "troubleshooting" first. Started watching this and was mostly captured by the entertainment value but then gave the baggie idea a try and - voila! - it worked! Thanks Shane Miller for the laughs and the fix !
thank you so much! I tried to descale first, then reset to factory settings which didn't work. I tried this and it's fixed! I was skeptical but I'm so glad I don't have to buy a new one. Thanks!
Thank you so much for not editing, I'm sure this will be my best laugh of the day. Plus now I have my cup of espresso, so morning is looking pretty good now. Thank You
Hi...any luck? I haven't used mine for almost 2 years too. When I turn it on and press the button, there is no sound at all, don't think the machine works. Is it broken?
I got frustrated with the zip-loc bag and decided to use some bubble wrap (with very small air bubbles) instead. It took about 4 pieces wound into a ball but this was a much more effective way to do this. On my 3rd attempt, it worked like a charm. I hope this helps and thanks for the tip.
Thanks a lot!!! I just repaired mine Krups XN260 this way! The only modification I made to this process is that I took my kid's rubber balloon and wrap it with plastic bag, leaving room for blowing. Turned on, pushed the bag inside and boom! Water stared running. Thanks again!
Thanks so much! We'd not used ours in a while and no water was coming out. Went to Google, this was the first video that popped up. Tried with a carrier bag, as ours has a bigger water tank and it worked first time 😁
all fixed, thanks for the help. the answer was for me, to unplug, take out thingamagig, plug back on, lock, then hold the button for 35 seconds...waala!
Hahahahaha!! I am literally stressed to death with my machine and have watched your video and feel so much better. You made me laugh out loud. Glad your machine works too 👍🏼
Thank you, it worked. I put the bag in first sealed most of it then blew into it then sealed completely so I didnt have to battle to get it in and it worked first time.e 😊
So i have a severe issue with an older model D120, which the pump will not prime with all you the normal suggested tactics, none of these things worked. I took the unit apart and used an air tool and blew directly into the intake or bottom of the pump! and that fixed it. I left the outside cover and called it Frankenstein Nespresso, Expresso
I don't have an air tool and wouldn't have any idea how to identify the intake if my life depended on it, even if I could get the damn machine apart. Nespresso should be ashamed. I've read so many comments saying that customer service was pathetic. And here are all these RUclipsrs sharing ideas about how to fix the problem. You should take a picture of your Frankenstein machine and upload it to their website.
Wow-My favourite coffee video on youtube. Shane, you made me in a great mood and I am still laughing this is a hilarious and fun video to watch. it is so great that it has encouraged me to try to fix my coffee machine-again -again-again!. Thank you! Still laughing!!!!!!!!! I hope I will succeed before the machine goes into the bin......
hahah! Thanks Zara. This video is so left-field of what my channel here is about (cycling and cycling tech). I'm happy to see this helping everyone with broken coffee machines. ☕️🔨
Funninest Lama vlog ever! They say the best comedy is someone else's misfortune and hearing the Lama swear was hilarious. Sorry for your suffering Shane but funny AF. Two thumbs up. Oh and well done on persevering and getting the job done.
I was pretty pissed it didn't work when I took it out of the box. Thankfully I stumbled across that RUclips video showing a guy fixing his (oh so easily).
Like power meters, if there's issues to be had, there's a high chance I'll encounter them. Happy to have a coffee in hand after this was sorted too. #CoffeeOn!
A great help - And I swear if you had gotten that bag right on the first try Id have found it suspect! I'm laughing here, yelling, "Double bag it, man!"
The best way to make the machine run water, in this case, is to insert and remove repeatedly and rapidly the water recipient while the water pump is working. Do this until the machine starts pouring water. Greetings from Portugal.
haha nice Mug!!! common fault I find putting the water container on and off a few times 5-10 is enough to get some water into the system so it can pump. Have not seen the zip lock bag method before.
Thanks for the reply! How funny my interest is road race cycling too not that I have a clue about it but I enjoy the atmosphere at the races. My son is the cycling nerd I just trot along. I will be having a look at your channel later. The coffee machine still not working but I will try again later! Still laughing watching your video again! Well done! Hahahha.....
Well, I can't wait for the Wahoo KickR Coffee comes out and Shane can do a comparison. With Wahoo making everything for cyclist with things like the KickR Climb and KickR Headwind, the next thing every cyclist will need from Wahoo is a coffee/espresso maker. Unlike Breville, the Wahoo will be a "Snap" to use. Oops, that names been taken. Of course a noise comparison in the Lama Lab will be a must. 😜 Well done Shane!
Did you try updating the firmware? How about doing a 0 offset. Is your FTP set correctly? I bet it is because Ant+ still does not work with the Android beta.
Very familiar with this issue on the Nespresso at home. Problem is that the pump hasn’t been primed. I found that leaning the machine over moved the air pocket enough that the pump could self prime
after watching your 'pro' video and i thought if you can do it, so can I. Machine had same problem after couple of months, send in for 'repair' and now after a long time not using it, decided to bring it out. Of course the water didn't pump and i just about to throw it away but thankfully saw your video. Thumbs down for Nespresso but thumbs up for YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oddly enough it's always the third party machines that have issues. had an original (now classic) Keurig that lasted 3 years before the pump had issues, replaced it with a Cuisinart model and had immediate issues with back pressure causing it to leak from the top...replaced it with the Keurig Elite series from Costco and only issue was the needle at the bottom got coffee grounds stuck in it once in the 8 months we have had it.
Jim Hansen "Inexpensive" and "Nespresso", try refilling the cups with fresh beans premium Coffee, use a premium grinder! close them again with alufoil.
Mate a condom works very well if you don't have anything else. Just inflate slightly and very carefully ease it into the tank with maybe 25mm of water in the bottom, and then switch on the machine and hit a button and away it goes. Have water on hand to quickly add to the tank as the system primes.
Haha love the ziplock bloopers! Seems you need a "good quality zip lock bag" ;) I've been trying this just now (from the other video that says this will fix the machine) and my bag didn't pop or open, but the water still didn't go through :( Your persistence has motivated me to go try a few more times :P
Excellent solution. I'd put mine away about 3 years ago and went back to using a Moka pot. I burned a new one so badly the rubber melted. So I started using my old French Press. The only problem with that is the amount of coffee you have to put in with only 2 cups of water just to make 2 espressos. 2vacuum packed packages of espresso get used up way too fast. 2days ago I hauled the Nespresso machine out. I cleaned it, descaled it, and now I apparently have this air bubble problem. I've tried the ziplock bag method (though only once) and it didn't work. Haven't had coffee for 3 days and cranky is not a sufficient word to describe my mood.😡
I’ve just fixed mine by plugging on, locked without capsule, press the long cup button once then long press once it stops blinking. You will see amount of water pouring, let it try pouring water without long pressing until you get the right amount of water
It was, and thanks for allowing me to swerve a little sideways here on my RUclips channel away from the standard 'always bikes' content. I hope someone else will one day find this video and they'll be able to enjoy their coffee again! :)
Hi my Nespresso machine water sprot is not locking (*lock inside on top of the waste container) to pump water out though h the sprot, instead is pumping out the water directly to the waste reservoir., How can I fix the lock? I noticed that if I take of the waste reservoir and lift up the lock manually then the water comes out though the sprout, this is how I noted the issue is with the lock. do zou have any ideas s on how to solve this issue?
Mine doesn't have sound when turned on and doesn't pump water too. Any idea why? 😅😅 I left it unused for more than a year, it was totally okay before though.
It's Pump lock: What happens is factory did not purge your machine or some debris got in the line. The pumps on these machines are simple plastic and metal electromagnetic pumps. Very narrow. The noise you're hearing is the electromagnetic motor vibrating the pump. Debris will not go through, neither can water . ThIS method forces a higher pressure through this tiny plastic pump (looks like a pencil ✏ 😳. ) If it's new exchange it . If it's old and you did not run storage procedure as per manual. Then do this at your own risk. The higher pressure could cause all kinds of future issues from micro cracks, leaking or total failure ot flooding.
If this doesn't work. Taking a part the bottom of the machine. There is a rubber hose you can shoot water into with a syringe. This will prime the pump and allow it to pull water. Seems every machine has this problem.
This worked like a charm! I know you didn't come up with it but thank you for putting this out. I was thinking I'd need a 1/2" OD pipe or a precision hex screwdriver but I just needed a ziploc bag!
And that was hilarious. So I bought a Mixpresso Elite, which is a knock off of what you've got there, off of Amazon for $76.99 USD. It came with a little pump and instructions on how to prime the machine. How the hell is Berville selling the same machine for 3x-4x the cost and not including this widget? Notes on these things: 1) self packing pods. Wow look for a fraction of the price I can pack my own and save money....yeah I did like 10 (bought 150 capsules) and I'll be buying them filled thanks. 2) Not all pods are created equal. I recently bought a package of pods that claimed to be compatible with Nespresso OriginalLine machines. When I make coffee with these water pumps out all over my counter. But when I use my self pack pods or other store bought pods it doesn't. Something with the seal when the pod is punctured I'm sure.
I've always enjoyed a Pour Over setup. That or a French Press when I have time and don't mind scraping the grounds from the bottom of an elongated beaker. A long spoon works better than using my hand. Recently I found a second hand 5 Cup Coffee Maker that does the trick. Walmart sells them for $10US. I got mine for $4 at a Pawn Shop. And, I haven't looked back with any regrets. The one objection I have with the Pods is the availability of my favorite flavor on a regular basis. They have reusable pods now that you can put your favorite blend in. So, I might give it a try. I'll probably wait for your long term test data though.
What are you talking about ??? You don't even have a machine ??? They've been out for 40 years , whats your long term test data you're waiting on? They've been around longer than smartphones .
Shhhhhhhh... sshhhhhh! We've just waged war on plastic bags here. The last thing we need is our straws on the radar! (Not sure that would have worked. Maybe though?)
Simply keep removing and reinstalling a partially filled water tank rapidly while in brewing mode and it will do the trick. No zip lock bag or anything else is needed.
Update: After 3 attempts, 4 ziploc bags, and about 50 F-Bombs of my own, it worked like a charm! Drinking my cappuccino right now actually. I should also note that I do not have a nespresso, but a delonghi machine, this cleared the vapour lock. THANK YOU!

most realistic approach i've seen so far...definitely did the job for our machine!

Did the same thing and it worked!! Wish government could run this way!!

Thank you Nespresso Guru it worked !!☕️
Cannot believe this actually worked! Was about to return this expensive machine and now I am sipping my coffee. Stranger things... :)
Thank you I had resigned myself to living without my coffee machine. Persevered with this trick and it finally worked. 🎉🎉🎉
Fantastic!
Thanks! I hadn’t used my machine in a while and it wasn’t pumping water. This worked like a charm for me on my first try!
thank you so much! I tried to descale first, then reset to factory settings which didn't work. I tried this and it's fixed! I was skeptical but I'm so glad I don't have to buy a new one. Thanks!

The blood splatter on the counter top convinced me you really have to go for it!
Bravo! Your persistence was the most instructive part!
I tried it with two thin produce bags at first. Didn’t work. Then I tried a thick ziploc, that did the trick!!!!! Happy dance!!
Thanks so much! We'd not used ours in a while and no water was coming out. Went to Google, this was the first video that popped up. Tried with a carrier bag, as ours has a bigger water tank and it worked first time 😁
This worked on my brand new machine! Crazy how you needed to do that to a machine straight out of the box!!!
Its because of an air bubble inside that wont allow water to run through.
Pretty normal
Thank you man! It’s almost best funny repair video as I can ever see))) 😅But it’s works!
all fixed, thanks for the help. the answer was for me, to unplug, take out thingamagig, plug back on, lock, then hold the button for 35 seconds...waala!
Tried that about 50 times today and long into the evening. Nope.
Mate, you’re as smooth as George Clooney trying to pair an alpaca with Zwift.
My machene has a squer water tank, but after a few tries it's fixed. Thanks. My model "Nespresso Coffee Maker Lattissima Touch F511WH"
I’m going to try this thank you!
Yes!!!! After 5 failed attempts. It works!!!!
Wow, so great, so easy, after the 2nd try my Nespresso is pumping as before! 👍👍👍
It Worked!!!! My experience was about like yours. But it worked !!!
Hahahahaha!! I am literally stressed to death with my machine and have watched your video and feel so much better. You made me laugh out loud. Glad your machine works too 👍🏼
This was such a hysterical and awesome vid, Shane. Keep 'em coming. All the swearing had me cracking up. Love it.
I'll try stick to what I know... bikes and tech. The camera will roll for any 'handyman' work I attempt in the event of epic failure :)
Bikes and tech... and swearing, certainly. :P

Put a straw over the water intake (in the reservoir), turn it on, and blow as much air as you can into the straw. Works like a charm.

Crazy! I never had this problem with Nespresso! I do have their newest model that takes different cap...drinking my coffee now!
Like power meters, if there's issues to be had, there's a high chance I'll encounter them. Happy to have a coffee in hand after this was sorted too. #CoffeeOn!
OMG .... I fixed mine too!! THANKS SO MUCH!
A great help - And I swear if you had gotten that bag right on the first try Id have found it suspect! I'm laughing here, yelling, "Double bag it, man!"

Well spotted. I'm being blasted on this as it's an off-topic video.... and there's the advertisement for HDR front and centre!
I don't even drink coffee and I watched it just because you had the mug, and I laugh at you swearing.
Thanks for the reply! How funny my interest is road race cycling too not that I have a clue about it but I enjoy the atmosphere at the races. My son is the cycling nerd I just trot along. I will be having a look at your channel later.

Still laughing watching your video again! Well done! Hahahha.....
You can use a T towel or a small towel , wetted, to make push pump to do this!
Great tip!
Well, I can't wait for the Wahoo KickR Coffee comes out and Shane can do a comparison. hahahh! The Wahoo Coffr! You'll need to pair it with your phone, but it'll be an easy setup once that's done.
Yessssss! I did it today and it worked!!!! Thanks, thanks for your effort on teaching us!!!:)
nice knife set! got the same. cutting edge looks worse for wear tho.
Sweet mug! First cup of coffee accompanied by the sweet taste of victory over the machine! 🤣
Did you try updating the firmware? How about doing a 0 offset. Is your FTP set correctly? I bet it is because Ant+ still does not work with the Android beta.

Thank you so much! This worked great! I thought my machine was toast.
Worked! But took about 20 minutes and about 20 attempts. I ended up using ziplock within ziplock and it finally worked.
Mate a condom works very well if you don't have anything else. Just inflate slightly and very carefully ease it into the tank with maybe 25mm of water in the bottom, and then switch on the machine and hit a button and away it goes. Have water on hand to quickly add to the tank as the system primes.
It’s explaining to the wife why there’s a condom packet in the trash that’ll get you in trouble though. 🤣🤣

Only when it doesn't pump water. Otherwise get a descaling kit and clean the machine every 6 months or so.

The higher pressure could cause all kinds of future issues from micro cracks, leaking or total failure ot flooding.
thanks, this method fixed my machine!
I’ve never laughed so much in my life, just slowly rock the water chamber back and forth .
Yeah. Just like closing the pod door open and closed rapidly. Useless.
Ah-hah! Been thinking the same thing. New brand of coffee, water everywhere except for coming out of the spout. Thanks for your comment 🙏
Get a double seal freezer type bag. And why not add more water to increase water pressure?
That was brilliant, mate! It did it for me. Thanks for the trick!
Mate...should have bought the ALDI one..heaps cheaper and works awesome...coffee on!!
I wish I had found this video, before I pulled my machine apart…Now to see if this works….LOL
Do they not have straws in Oz?
Shhhhhhhh... sshhhhhh! We've just waged war on plastic bags here. The last thing we need is our straws on the radar! (Not sure that would have worked. Maybe though?)
@@gplama you're a super athlete. The water would've looked like a torpedo had hit mate.
Simply keep removing and reinstalling a partially filled water tank rapidly while in brewing mode and it will do the trick. No zip lock bag or anything else is needed.
I have the very same eva solo magnets.
Bought the $1000 Nespresso machine. Collecting dust. Use the $79 Aldi machine daily. 👍
Delonghi should reimburse for the zip lock bags
