It worked!!!!! I just used a regular plastic bag, tied a knot, pressed down and it started working!!!! Brilliant! This man deserves a mechanical engineering degree just for this
Dude, you're brilliant! A wonderful example of what an intelligent, open-minded, person with a good sense of the mechanics of the many items that surround us in life can do in problemsolving mode. Although the problem is a small one, you demonstrate an overall intelligence here that is rare, and capable of bringing great advances to humanity.
7 years later this video is still helping people. Just came home from my summer place and this was my exact situation (same machine even). Thank you, worked like a charm.
Oh man, thank you so much! I disassembled my coffee machine, cleaned all the stuff, assembled it back and had no effect. And only you zip-lock-bag-method helped me instantly! So smart and simple!
You Sir may now carry and use the official title of 'Legend'! I have the exact same machine, same problem, same fix - works perfectly. I might even find a new love for my coffee machine. Thanks a million for sharing this - Legend.
You've fixed my brand new Pixie that didn't care to start working right out of the box. Nespresso owes you a lot for inventing this trick. Thank you Sir.
Amazing. I'm a teacher loaning a colleague's Nespresso machine. When it stopped working on my watch I got very worried. She had warned me to always run an empty cup after using it, but must have forgot the last time and didn't use the machine for a few weeks. When I went to use it again, I had a very sad cup of coffee. Your video was my first search result and I tried it. Easy, simple, effective. Voilà! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for the tip. Enjoyed the video and appreciate your persistence. Corrected the air pocket in my machine in 2 minutes. With one adjustment. Added water/air to the ziplock bag AFTER it was inserted in the water reservoir. Thanks again for saving me $300+.
Awesome! just about to bin our machine after not using it for a long time. I tried the bag technique multiple times with no joy but had a look through the comments and found that tilting the machine forward so that the air came back through the water reservoir worked. Thanks very much!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give this info! I did not realise that there was not enough water in the little tank, so obviously an air bubble formed and after I filled up the tank, the coffee machine did not work. I immediately googled for advice and your video was excellent! I followed the instructions and It worked immediately!
Dude holy shit thank you. I watched a million videos and read a bunch of articles online and none of their instructions worked but you are a GOD. Thank you again!
Just wanted to say, this instructional is the real deal. Spent about 15 minutes lifting up the water tank and putting it on and off the base. Some water was coming through but hardly any. I switched to this method, and within 5 minutes I was sucking down an espresso. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Absolutely genius!!! I've tried EVERYTHING and was just about to take my machine apart and was searching for a video on taking the Vertuoline apart but ran across this video and what do you know this recommendation actually worked!!! Thanks so much!!! Now I can return the new machine that I just bought and keep this one!!
You da MAN!! Your solution worked in seconds. This after I spent a sleepy hour struggling and overheating my pixie. The Nespresso customer service could only offer me a 35% “out of warrantee discount” after several unsuccessful troubleshooting steps. Thank you.
My Pixie is now seriously over heated. I descaled it and then it didn't work. Tried the bag solution, but left the tank empty. In the video it looks like there's a bit of water in the tank. Will try again as I haven't had coffee for 3 days.😱😱😱
THANK YOU! This worked. Wanted to come back and let you know. It took a little wiggling and a few times to create the seal and push down hard so it forces the bubble through but I doubt there would have been any other way to fix it if I didn't google and found this video. The total time was about 4 minutes - two different bags. It does work so if you are frustrated and struggling...keep trying...it works!
Thank you, Ethan! Your video was extremely helpful and made me look good. Using a quart size Ziplock bag worked for our new Nespresso with the rectangular water tank too. I had to apply significant pressure, but now I am the 'Hero of the Day' .
This helped me too, it got a lot of the air out, but not enough for me to break the air lock. I used a vaccum wine saver (hand pump) and that sucked the rest of the air out.
Oh my word… I want to hug brother! This has been nagging at me for 2 months wondering why our machine was done after barely a year in service and this saved us! Used a ziploc, pushed a little water through it…viola! Thank you
Wow, the mouth-pressure method worked instantly on my really old model with the small round tank - it had been in storage for over a year, and became inoperable, but now it’s working like a champ again. 😅🏆 Thanks so much! 😍
DUDE!!!! I scored this model at an estate sale for $15, and when I fired it up to test it, it did EXACTLY this. And on my second try with the bag, IT WORKED! Thank you!!
OMG, you just...it worked, just like that after my husband and I were left totally helpless in our morning robes this Saturday. As you said, the case scenario is that we just took it out from storage to compare the quality of our expensive espresso machine and bam, it did not work and your video just helped me solve it in a few seconds. You rock, i guess this is what a platform like youtube is for at the end of the day, perfect strangers teaching each others stuff from the other side of the world, thanks again both you and RUclips
THANK YOU!! I hadn’t used my nespresso machine for more than a year- I watched this video and boom it worked straight away!! You will never know how much I needed this coffee!! You are fantastic!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I haven't used my machine in 6 months, and I thought it was broken when I tried using it today. Turned out this is what happened exactly. The first pump of water was disgusting (coffee gunk over 6 months), so I just ran 2 whole reservoirs and that made the water clear again! Thanks again!
Dear Ethan. My coffee machine went 5 years without use even though it was almost new. When I turned it back on ... no water running. I knew the pump should be primed, but I didn't know how. I thought of disassembling the machine to get to the pump, etc... Luckily there's the Internet and I found your method. That's just great! Thank you very much for putting it online. Thank you very MUCH!
Great tip. Thanks so much! Amazing what you can do when you have to improvise! I didn't have a ziplock bag so I used an inverted plastic beaker which created enough of a seal and then pushed down on on the end of it as I switched the machine on! Worked first time! Well done and thanks for the idea!
Fought with instruction book and Nespresso support literally all day long. You're the man...this worked for my new Vert that was right out of the box and wasn't pumping water. thank you for your help !! It worked.
Trick worked on my Le Cube that was in stotage for 3 years. Thank you for saving me loads of $$$. (Super messy btw, due to the design. I would recommend a towel under the machine!)
@@julianrobinson4388 yeah, just tilt out the reservoir and shove the bag in. Inflate the bag and squeeze. The res can be tilted slightly open and it still work.
Wow! Logged in just to leave a thank you! I bought a cream colored Nespresso Inissia from a rummage sale for $3 and figured if it didn’t work no biggie. I was trying to run a few cycles and clean it but it wouldn’t cycle so I came to RUclips and yours was the first video I saw! Worked like a charm and is ready for my first home espresso tomorrow. Thank you thank you!
Great fix! Mine sucked in too much air at the end of the descaling process and stopped working. I have the circular tank and I managed to create enough pressure by putting seran wrap with a hole for me to blow in over the top.
AMAZING!!! I pulled my Nespresso out of storage for the holidays, heard the pump but no water coming thru. I tried the "blow" method and no go, so used the Ziploc bag and...viola!!! It worked like a charm!!! THANK YOU for saving me a lot of time and my Nespresso from the garbage heap!
Great work mate, worked with Latissima+, no other recommendations I had read would work for this model. Simple and instantly effective! Thanks very much for sharing.
Thank you so much, Ethan. I arrived at work today and was really looking forward to a cup of coffee. No dice. I watched your video and, as I didn't have a ziplock bag, used a surgical glove (left over from the pandemic). Worked a trick! I couldn't believe how easy the solution was.
Great solution my friend! Genious! I was stuck with this problem, not knowing very well the cause (air block), which solution is pretty simple. Thanks a lot for sharing! Cheers from Brazil.
We just pulled an old espresso machine out of the garage sale pile in the basement and it wouldn’t pump. My mom said check RUclips and yours was the first to pop up. We tried it and it worked immediately. You’re a genius and a lifesaver and I say thank you to the MAX!
Genius! I just stupidly started my machine without the water tank attached (brain not functioning). Couldn’t get it to work and then saw your hack, absolutely brilliant and my machine is now working again! Thank you.
This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
After several hours of trying what Nepresso said to do and several hours of failure I found your video. All I can say is thank you it works. I am drinking an espresso as I type...
Hi Ethan and everyone, I saw just positive comments on how it worked for everybody but I really thought mine was broken because it was already not working right from the first day. And I hate the hassle of sending bought items back.. But I tried your method, and also blew on the opening in the small black part on the bottom where the water container connects. And it worked for me too!! So happy with that. Thanks a ton for putting this video up. We're all in it together!
Just bought an Inissia today and couldn't prime it, would not pump water. Came across four different methods, this one finally worked. Thanks for the clear instruction.
Great idea, but it didn't work using the ziplock bag. BUT you gave me the idea as to what had to be done! I removed the water tank and noticed the opening where the water enters the machine. So I took a small plastic bottle whose mouth was the same size as the opening. This bottle is what you would use to feed a tiny animal. I filled it with water, turned it over and jammed it down into the opening. Pressed the button and squeezed like crazy. It worked!! Thanks for the idea.
Dennis Silveri : same but I tried it many time and every time I saw a few air bubbles. I got disappointed . I came after some time I tried it wow it worked. It was a dirty water . I put a bit of baking soda in the water tanker
Reactivated my youtube account just to THANK YOU. And thank you to whoever commented about filling the ziplock with water! Just air wouldnt work for me. So happy.
so glad i saw this comment bc this is what finally worked for me ! i’m currently still just doing the rinse cycle bc it’s a new machine, will i have to do this every time i make coffee?
YOU ROCK! It worked. Bought a Nespresso maker for $6.00 at a used goods store. That’s $6 CANADIAN, so not much. I knew the coffee maker was not going to work, but what the heck. Pump was pretty noisy and no water coming through. Your trick with the Ziplock bag was great. Scared that pump into working. Thank you!
Great idea!! Adapted your solution and what I read here for my Maestria. The problem with the Maestria is that once the water tank is in place, there is no access to the top/opening of the tank. I used a lager size plastic bag. I filled the tank 2/3 - 3/4 with water, and carefully placed the bag in the tank resting on the water, with the open end 'purse-stringed' and hanging out of the top of the tank as I placed the tank in the machine: the bag was deflated in the tank, resting on the water, with the open end hanging out of the tank in such a way that I could seal it around my mouth and blow into it. I turned the pump on while blowing into the bag - the bag expanded, expelled the air that was in the tank and compressed the water - the increased water pressure in the tank forced water through the system and opened the block. You may want to keep a paper towel around the base of the machine as some water will leak out of the tank onto you countertop. Thanks so much!
Thank you!! In the RV and this worked perfectly..... so happy to have coffee this morning. You are a genius according to my husband!! He was beat after our RV slide didn’t work last night and finally fixing that hours later and then the Nespresso not working this morning. We so appreciate you posting this video!! Coffeeeeeeeee!
Perfetto! OMG...I have an old Essenza C90 that I just descaled for the first time in well...too long! Finished descaling and was about to start the rinse process when the water flow just stopped! I figured it was an air bubble but did not have a clue as to how to fix it and thought "The Baby" was destined for the dumpster. After seeing your video, I went to work and you were right...20 seconds later I was smiling and feeling a bit like McGyver. Well, you get the McGyver credit and I'll get a nice cup of coffee! Thank you and Cheers!
I couldn't get the bag trick to work (I was def using weird bags), but thanks to a comment a little bit below, I tried blowing directly on the little inlet thing. I removed the water tank, used a paper towel to soak up any water at the bottom water inlet thing on the machine, then bent down and blew with sustained breath as I pushed the button for the machine to do a cycle. I did this twice, easily making a good seal with my lips over the water inlet, and presto it worked. I wouldn't have thought of this if it hadn't been for this video and some comments, so thanks everybody!
This is the first time ever I bother to comment on youtube because you are the best! We tried almost everything for hours but this actually worked in just seconds!! thank you!
Great solution! What made it a bit easier for me was putting the bag in the reservoir and then blow air into it to create the seal. Then you get the right amount of air and don't have trouble stuffing it in.
Thanks a lot a lot your idea of zip lock bag worked for me . I have same like a problem I tried all others methods didn’t work . I tried yours an was successful. So Great idea I was about to throw my machine .
Literally, watching this from my RV with a Breville Nespresso that wasn't working after 6 months in storage. Took longer to watch this than to grab a bag and make this work. Worked perfectly, thank you!!
Worked like a charm! Thank you so much! I couldn’t get a great seal, so I pushed the bag down as it was cycling, then I heard the water gurgling! I stopped the cycle and filled the whole tank up and let ‘er rip! Brand new machine (to me, but has been sitting in a warehouse for years) and is working like a charm!
Amazing. Thank you so much. Despite using ours daily it just stopped working. Combination of zip lock bag, water and downward pressure to improve seal worked a treat… just run it and wait for a ‘burp’ noise which is the air pocket releasing. Saved me buying a new machine… many thanks
I just got one of these for Christmas and since it was new and not pumping water I was in a spot trying to figure out how I was going to get the air out- this was so quick and helpful. Thank you for posting, and Merry coffee!
My nespresso machine was in storage for 2 years. I thought the compressor was broken or something and I was already gonna throw away the machine. Your video saved me! 😀 Thanks man.
This didn’t work at first but I persevered and it did. I put about 3 inches of water in the reservoir. Then I put the snaplock bag inside and used a straw to blow it up and then sealed it. Next I turned it on, pushed down on the bag and hey presto after two hours of trying every other suggestion on You Tube, to clear the blockage this one worked. THANK YOU!!
Thank youu🎉 I couldn't find a way to solve this air problem with my delonghi machine because there is no easy to access the valve, but this worked great. I'm writing while enjoying a cup of coffee ☕️
Wooow it worked! Thank you so much for this video. I was first searching the instructions from Nespresso and was losing hope because I had tried several times without a success. Then I came across this video 😀 We were not using the coffee machine for more than a year so I tried it 3 times with your solution and it worked perfectly. Thanks again 🙌
Thankyou so much for this ! Bought this exact machine second hand and was worried id been scammed. Tied up a freezer bag and it worked !! Thanks so much :)
Thank you! Couldn't figure out why money wasn't working. Got it from my sister and she had it in basement for a year. The other videos were so much work and didn't have the tools for that. Your bag trick worked on first try!
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video. This worked brilliantly! I had a little trouble with one bag, so I used two. It worked like a charm! I hope you are monetizing on this video because I would love to buy you a cup of coffee!
It worked for me!! I have a Citiz. It took multiple tries and cycles - 2-3 dozen - but totally worth it! It worked best when I put the minimum amount of water in the reservoir (less than 1”) to get the most pressure. It started making a slightly different noise at first, then some steam 4-5 cycles later and finally after some more work and pressure, water ran through. Thank you for sharing this trick!
This is exactly what I needed to do! I thought my machine was broken. It took me a couple of tries but I kept pushing down on my last try and it worked! Thank you
Thank you so much! This exact idea didn't work for me - couldn't get the bags to retain air, but all the suggestions in the comments helped me to defeat the non pumping machine i got given for free!
I know this is an old video but I just received my new Nespresso machine (Nx1000) that loads water the same way and thought my machine was busted straight out of the packet, thank you very much for saving me a lot of time and troubles, you're a legend bro!
Came across this and it worked!!! My Nespresso machine hadn't been used in a few years and the water wouldn't come through. Baggie filled with water (vs just air); worked like a charm! Thank you for sharing :) 😀
It’s 2023 I have a newish nepresso machine and this worked like a charm. I was getting anxiety flirting with the idea of having to take the machine apart. Thank you for the video!
Wow, that did it !! I was about to throw away my mini Nespresso machine after sitting in storage and no water would come out. I put the zip-lock bag in and simply pushed downward and all fixed. Thanks!!
worked on my delonghi inissio. kept enough water for a cup in the tank, put in an almost-sealed ziploc, filled the ziploc with air using a straw while the bag is already in the tank, and then applied your concept. worked great, ty
Amazing, thank you! Found this bad boy at Value Village here in Canada for about $10. Looks brand new. Tried multiple times to get it to descale using the nespresso video instructions and nothing happened. Saw this video and it's running! Thanks a bunch!! ☺️
Merci. 🙏🏾
What a great trick!! I have just purchased a lattissima one and neapresso said I had an air bubble and told me to keep lifting up the water tank to force water through. This worked on the second time!! Thanks so much!

So I took a small plastic bottle whose mouth was the same size as the opening. This bottle is what you would use to feed a tiny animal. I filled it with water, turned it over and jammed it down into the opening. Pressed the button and squeezed like crazy. It worked!! Thanks for the idea.
The same here, ziplock bag didn't help, but plastic bottle worked perfectly! Thanks for advise! :-)
Dennis Silveri : same but I tried it many time and every time I saw a few air bubbles. I got disappointed . I came after some time I tried it wow it worked. It was a dirty water .
I put a bit of baking soda in the water tanker
The small bottle method worked for me. Tried all the other methods but this one worked right away.
I cant find any small bottle that would fit that opening - its like half cm...
Reactivated my youtube account just to THANK YOU. And thank you to whoever commented about filling the ziplock with water! Just air wouldnt work for me. So happy.
I spent so much time on so many different videos, and not until I saw you mention filling the bag with water did it finally work for me. Thank you.
so glad i saw this comment bc this is what finally worked for me ! i’m currently still just doing the rinse cycle bc it’s a new machine, will i have to do this every time i make coffee?
I followed suit. I logged in just to give a “Like”. The combination of water + air in the ziplock proved to be the perfect seal.
YOU ROCK!
Use a balloon instead. Its much easier depending on the configuration of your machine
It worked instantly.
I pressed the sides of the little inlet while blowing and it finally worked! Definitely took a few times but it worked!!
This is the first time ever I bother to comment on youtube because you are the best! We tried almost everything for hours but this actually worked in just seconds!! thank you!
Thank you for this brilliant MacGyver! You saved my sanity and my wallet. Just hope the little one crying finally got a cup of coffee!
Great solution! What made it a bit easier for me was putting the bag in the reservoir and then blow air into it to create the seal. Then you get the right amount of air and don't have trouble stuffing it in.
Worked for me! Too bad customer service didnt just have me do this first!
Genius! Thank you so much Ethan! I tried other things, nothing worked. Your idea of a ziplock bag did the trick and made my day.
I just used a straw to blow the air out of the machine. Just place the straw over the opening in the machine and blow.
I’ve been trying to get my nespresso to work forever!! Thank you so much. You are a hero.
Thank you so much!!! It worked. I was so sad thinking my machine was broke. I did what you showed us and in seconds it worked.
You just saved the day. I am in a holiday rental in Paris and this exact machine on the video sucked a bubble and wouldn't pump water. Thank you.
Thank you! 20 second fix worked!! Hour of washing and shaking wasted…was about to threw this into the trash before finding this video. 👍🏻
THANK YOU!!
Thank you!! My husband is impressed I actually fixed something and he got his coffee!
It worked like a charm! Great thinking, huge props for the easy and well-researched fix. Also for the no-nonsense video style
Tried this on a current vertuo model and it seemed to work! My machine was not working from new out the box. You are a legend sir
Worked great on a machine I hadn't used in a year and wanted to sell... only to find the water wasn't coming through anymore! All fixed now, thanks!!
Worked! But took about 20 minutes and about 20 attempts. I ended up using ziplock within ziplock and it finally worked. Thank you!
Merci. 🙏🏾
What a great trick!! I have just purchased a lattissima one and neapresso said I had an air bubble and told me to keep lifting up the water tank to force water through. This worked on the second time!! Thanks so much!
I have used this method twice and it's PERFECT. Sometimes it will need two or three cycles but it will work.
Six years later I just used this method with a quart sized slide-lock bag to fix my Breville Nespresso Pixie Titan. You sir are a master of ideas.
It worked! Thank you! One small tip, it's easier if you blow up the bag when it's already inside the container.
