From the videos I've seen, TEMU has the prices this low on purpose. They are actually making a loss at the moment. This is a part of their plan to become THE marketplace, and get rid of the competition. Once they reach that point, the prices will go up.
Exactly my thoughts! Because even if they find the cheapest (yet good quality) sellers, and bring the products directly from factory to the consumers, there's no way something can be that cheap considering the transportation costs.. Also raises question, how cheap the initial items are to begin with that these sellers are willing to sell for so low, which can imply or raise questions on their particular work ethics. Like on amazon, the same products cost much more and seem reasonable to be profitable for them, but not sure about this new app.
SHEIN's clothes right now are daringly inexpensive right now. Like 3-4 dollars. Clothes on TEMU are... actually more expensive. TEMU cant replace SHEIN, two different demographics and products, they're actually more similar to Amazon. Will they replace Amazon? ESP in the west? HIGHLY doubt.
I love Temu for buying craft material, because I'm a broke but creative person and it really helps to supply myself for my 1000+ projects.. but the problem is that seeing all kind of cool looking stuff at such a low price really pushes to overconsumption. I alwaysask myself "do I really need it ?" before buying. Luckily I have enough self control to buy what I need without ripping out my bank account. Even 1€ loss is money loss. I won't be surprised to discover that Temu is not 100% ethical and not top quality, just like Amazon and their horrible working conditions. In my opinion, the company stills a bit too young right now, so we don't have the same level of informations as in Shein which is there for a looong time now... Maybe we will discover more on the future.
You don’t need to discover that. In this day and age unless a company outright says they’re sustainable and care about production process and says how and shows the proof, you can literally assume that they’re not and they’re using horrible materials and slave labor.
What I'm really wondering is how these low prices can even cover the production costs of the item itself? Not only the cost of materials to make the product, but also everyone involved in the process getting fairly compensated for their labor.
You wouldn't believe how low the prices are on products made in China in certain countries around the world. It's just that somehow everything that gets to America and other developed countries gets really bumped up in price. So I think those low prices actually cover the manufacturing (since they're selling these products for these or lower prices in other places in the world). Most likely, producers make less profit on it or intermediaries make less profit on it.
The truth is that people are not fairly compensated for their labor. The working conditions for these employees are absolutely terrible. There are lots of documentaries availed for free on RUclips about fast fashion, but I’m not sure if any are available yet about TEMU, as it is a newer business.
I think that it's due to the companies on there being from countries where the conversion rate is high. Also cutting out most of the people who do quality testing also obviously helps as well. I believe this as these marketplaces don't really work in countries where the conversion rate is smaller, I'm going to use Turkey as an example as I'm from there. My family who live there never buy anything off there and don't understand the hype as they are priced at the usual price of those things or higher, so its not worth it to them. Obviously as these are individual companies, there most likely is some company which abuses their workers in whichever form it may be but there is most likely to be less of that due to so many companies being on there than if we were shopping elsewhere. I hope this made sense and please correct me or ask if something is confusing or just wrong!!
Thats exactly it, the workers aren’t being paid fairly. Like another reply stated temu is so new we just dont know how bad the situation is yet but id assume its not far off from shien working conditions. I highly reccomend looking up the disastrous shien brand trip, exposes a lot of misinformation about working conditions.

Funny how all the young ones kept labeling ad claiming forever 21 as fast fashion and that it breaks down in 1 wash when there are examples like yours and Zoe's that show that that's not true... As a person on a budget, when h&m was semi-new, I remember thinking of it as the upgrade from lower end clothing stores, something like a good mid-range option for business casual clothes. But everyone on the internet kept claiming h&m as fast fashion that breaks in 1-2 washes? Same with Zara. Though I personally never bought their clothes I found that so hard to believe.... stuff I bought at a "cheap" trendy teen stores lasted me like 5 years at minimum. The analysis was great, Temu basically contradicts themselves by similatenously saying they care about sustainability but then they don't care enough to have a better vetting process 🤷♀️ its kind of like green washing, just fluffy statements. At the end of the day it just incentives the ridiculous factory worker situation, i don't think many of them get social security or retirement benefits either
I like your videos verrrrry much 😍 For the Dyson Dupe (also for the original) you must have your hair slightly damp and then it works great! The curls then also hold super long 💖
For clothing: thrift stores, Depop… Styles are coming back and repeating from the past so thrift stores will likely have items from that era. Maybe they won’t have that exact top everyone is wearing but if you get something a bit different it could be even better
Do you ever feel like thrifting and promoting it is selling yourself short? While the rich eat meat and regular food (new clothes) you as a lower class make do with (and sell yourself the lie and try to glorify) thrifted, second hand clothing that's been worn by somebody else (kinda like vegan food being so heavily promoted to tye lower classes when you know damn well the bezos of the world will continue to eat steak irregardless of the consequences.). And the rich will live in villas and mansions while the lower class will fool themselves thinking living out of a van is normal. So you buy clothes that don't give feeling of ownership in way when you buy never worn new, and not the second hand like the worn me downs of your cousins that evokes the negative feelings associated with poverty... what I'm saying is, buying second hand doesn't subconsciously make you feel like poor people? Like you're missing out? Because as someone who relied on hand me downs at one point in my life I don't like the idea of thrifting and avoid it when possible. Plus getting hand me downs directly rather then buying from a wholesaler, where all used clothes gets mixed around just feels iffy. Isn't it better to buy new that lasts long unless you specifically seeking out vintage pieces
For the shoe rack, I have the same one but I ordered it from AliExpress. Yes you can assemble it lol. You are supposed to assemble each box completely with the flap lid then you attach them to each other one by one. Yes it is flimsy but it gets the job done. I think I had mine for about 2-3 years until the stuff I had on top of the the rack caused it to collapse so I got a new shoe rack from Amazon. It collapsed but it didn't break so I could've just reassembled it but I didn't want to 😆
"for the price you get some really cool functions"... but if the price is so low and the functions are too you are buying low quality plastic that again goes to landfill quickly =/ I don't get it.
I think the problem that I have is that lower prices make people consume more. Fast fashion or just consumerism is still a problem. The reason why I am saying this is to make the low cost things that you purchase with heavy discounts- you would still not be sustainable. You would still contribute to maintaining low wages at the factories and encourage a use of cheaper plastic, which in the long term plays our even worse. I also think you were talking about fashion fashion and how it’s not something you support, but at the same time spoke of the trend about old money and how temu could help buy things to be in the trend. I mean that’s kind of the impression I slightly got. I think these websites encourage consumerism and it’s about affordability it’s buying things at the prices of emerging markets from developed markets and saying that saves you money. It does, but at the same time it appropriates the whole purpose of making things affordable in the first place
ive never even used temu and i was always so confused when ppl would always ask me "can u use my temu link/code?!?!" like wtf are u talking abt and then when i finally searched up what temu was i was like "oh."
3:59 Few things here. 1: it's not a pill. It's a subcutaneous injection. 2. Wegovy IS for weight loss. That is all it has been FDA approved for. It is also not uncommon for for doctors to prescribed medication for off lable use. 3. Ozempic treats type 2 diabetes- not type 1. In other words, it treats the type of diabetes brought on by poor diet. Something that is is in that individuals control. 4. Last but not least, obesity is a serious medical condition. Like diabetes, it is brought on by diet and lifestyle. I think both are worthy of treatment and do not understand why so many people want to virtue signal about this. Yes there was a shortage of injectors for a time, but the medication was widely available. Not to mention that compounded versions are much more affordable and come in a vile that allows you to control the dosage.
The items are still all made in sweatshops most likely. Just because Temu may not own their own sweatshops, they’re still supporting sellers who do. Their answer to “is temu ethical?” Is “we don’t know! don’t blame us blame our sellers we barely know them 🤭” aka a resounding NO. And yes this resembles Wish or Aliexpress more than Shein. The same working conditions as shein but with a shield of anonymity. Since we don’t have a name of which factory to go tour, we can’t see the conditions. Safe to assume it’s the same conditions as shein but they’re being careful not to show us
Could you please do a video to “the promotion of toxic relationships in movies” just like 365 days, Culpa mia etc because so many people like these kind of movies but i found them very problematic. Because i creates a picture of what relationships are or should look like… and its not the healthy kind of.
Is Temu even making a profit on these items when they are so cheap? And if not, what else could they be gaining from their services? For example, Amazon can offer their items below store prices because they make a profit not by selling the items, but by selling your shopping data to other parties. Think about what you're really paying when you shop on such websites.
Western brands and stores are known to mark up their prices a lot, and despite the price tag (ex: Nike) doesn't change the fact the clothes are still made in a sweatshop with very low wage, and we're so used to that standard in the west that we become suspicious of temu pricing (I mean I was). But maybe those are the real prices the goods are worth. If you think about it, part of it is the exchange rates and the worth of a dollar. I Invision that what you see on temu would be regular prices to Chinese consumers in China (assuming all manufacturing is in China), but to us it's low in the dollars bc wages are paid in Chinese currency so it's cheap. It's no different from American tourists finding food, accomodations etc. so cheap in Asian countries. It's not that it's cheap for the locals, but the inflation of their currency paired with the high paying power of the USD, it makes the American dollar stretch really far. Honestly between temu and western stores idek what product prices should even be anymore. (Not to take away from what you were saying).
I was at an interview / orientation type deal. I was asked what I liked to do outside of work. I said poetry and photography… There was a guy who said “add to cart” and a woman who openly said I shop for entertainment. That is the problem, people get a high off consuming and buying. Fast fashion and thrifting, more so if it’s a deal… I agree fast fashion is bad, but it’s a supply and demand. If people would buy basics, be happy with what they have, this wouldn’t be the problem. A lot of times the buying and looking cool is also fed by views and likes. No way am I saying that you have to look like you’re poor or dress in something you don’t like… just make sure that it’s gonna be something you’re going use for a long time and will get wear out of. I have a lot of clothes that I’ve had since I was 18, I’m now 34. Obviously, my body hasn’t changed and I don’t have any kids… so there are certain circumstances why you would need a whole new wardrobe. But the amount of people who buy something wear it once or twice and then discard it because the season over is incredible. This is why thrift stores always have something that you can find. I get a lot of my stuff from thrift stores, I also know how to sew… one of the best things that I have ever received as a gift was a sewing machine. So if I buy something and it doesn’t fit right, it sure as hell will after I alter it. I also am able to fix things that have a missing button or a hem that’s become undone. Not so much now but in the past, I made a lot of my jeans into skinny jeans. I quite often make dresses shorter so they’ll be cute. I also take in a lot of fabric on the thighs because I want them to fit me and not swallow me. There are so many benefits to learning to see and having a sewing machine, I can get a shirt for under $6 at Goodwill… I’ve seen a lot of stuff on Shein, that is sometimes $20… and it’s like a green neon checkered shirt that’s cropped… How many times is someone going to wear that?
Ahh it really is insane, it has to be the new shein 😭 Also, would love to see u make a video about influencers making music, I watch a few random people and for some reason so many people are making their own music, and they are mostly breakup songs too xD interested to see what u can find?

@@woahhh6999 You're welcome lol
The analysis was great, Temu basically contradicts themselves by similatenously saying they care about sustainability but then they don't care enough to have a better vetting process 🤷♀️ its kind of like green washing, just fluffy statements. At the end of the day it just incentives the ridiculous factory worker situation, i don't think many of them get social security or retirement benefits either
I like your videos verrrrry much 😍
For the Dyson Dupe (also for the original) you must have your hair slightly damp and then it works great! The curls then also hold super long 💖
UGH i'm so excited. you always tackle these topics so well, and this is something i'm really interested in!
It collapsed but it didn't break so I could've just reassembled it but I didn't want to 😆
I still have a denim jacket that I bought when I was 7/8 yo. I'm 26 now and I wear it more often than when it was new 😅😂
TEMU stole $12,000 from my moms credit card, bank fixed it but lets just say she deleted that app.
£9,500!!! good grief!
"for the price you get some really cool functions"... but if the price is so low and the functions are too you are buying low quality plastic that again goes to landfill quickly =/
I don't get it.
Hi zoe . Just wanted to say i appreciate your videos ☺️ and also the last short where you were bleeding im curious. Hope you're doing well.
i love you zoe!
it shouldnt be the responsibility of the shopper tho, its the responsibility of the compny to not literally have slave labor
Yessss
Temu sounds like shopee coz we don’t use amazon here in the Philippines.
What are worker conditions like? And do the products have toxic ingredients like Shein?
but how long can it last is the better question? Need a 3, 6, 9, 12 months update on these.
It does, but at the same time it appropriates the whole purpose of making things affordable in the first place
tbh there’s always a new something 🤷🏻♀️
I love you Zoe, u always talk about interesting topics and am so excited for this video ❤✨
I REFUSE TO BUY FROM BOTH THO IM BROKE BUT I ABSTAIN
I've been thinking abt this too. I think temu is becoming the new shein
oh the irony of getting a temu and shein ad
Where did you get that spiked golden bracelet? It’s amazing!
im doing an essay on fast fashion and this was very interesting and helpful :D thank you
hey can you do a video of the exploration of data and credit card numbers when spending money on temu?
Am I the only one who shop on temu for materials and other stuff because its helpful and i am broke so you can get really good stuff for a low price.
so it's as trust worthy as shein?
Luv this Zoe!💜
Isn’t TEMU just ALIEXPRESS in orange
ive never even used temu and i was always so confused when ppl would always ask me "can u use my temu link/code?!?!" like wtf are u talking abt and then when i finally searched up what temu was i was like "oh."
Safe to assume it’s the same conditions as shein but they’re being careful not to show us
I got a temu and shein add right as I clicked your video
thanks girl i needed this video
Legit got a Temu and a Shein ad on this wtf😂
Could you please do a video to “the promotion of toxic relationships in movies” just like 365 days, Culpa mia etc because so many people like these kind of movies but i found them very problematic. Because i creates a picture of what relationships are or should look like… and its not the healthy kind of.
Now that haircut is sublime 💅
When you were gonna say about red flags- temu ad suddenly popped up when you said "red flags".
btw i really like the video quality!!
Bad publicity is still publicity..now i know Temu exists 😮
Got a temu ad before this video started
The effed up thing is that a SHEIN advert popped up while watching >.
What a coincidence an ad for Temu appeared 😅

No dont tell the bird to stop, it makes everything way cuter.
You’re so beautiful with and without makeup 🥰
The irony of the fact I got a shein ad on this
Bye why did i get the first ever shien add ive seen on this video of all things lmao

I GOT A SHEIN AD FOR THE VIDEO
I wanted to buy a few things from Temu but after watching this video I was like "no, it’s just too good to be true"
ironic how i got a shein ad before this vid started
Isn't Temu basically Aliexpress? Isn't it a known thing in USA?..
Love you zoe😘
Ahh it really is insane, it has to be the new shein 😭 Also, would love to see u make a video about influencers making music, I watch a few random people and for some reason so many people are making their own music, and they are mostly breakup songs too xD interested to see what u can find?
Someone made a whole video of you on RUclips calling you a hypocrite. Zoe please address that issue. That video is trying to ruin your reputation.
I think temp is a great shop but dose the exact same thing as Shein they are the same! For me it is good to use once in a while but both abuse children and both apps add to climate change. I do not mean to make other people feel bad for likening the shops which I am not judging you for but just as a caution try to be aware of how much money you are giving to it while buying from the 2 shops :)
