    Why is the base and sand necessary? Theoretically can you just add more limestone to replace base and sand? Just curious!

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  3 года назад +2

      For long term stabilization! Also, the gravel at the bottom is for additional drainage. But the sand is necessary so the pavers don’t “settle” and become wobbly!

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  2 года назад

      It honestly can’t be fully preventable. We laid a weed barrier and we’re still out there 3-4x/year pulling the weeds. If you pull the weeds by the root, it should help maintain them from spreading/growing rapidly!

    Hi guys, my wife and I came across your video and looking to do something very similar, so thank you for this video. One thing that we are having a hard time wrapping our head around is how does the water actually drain? I understand that water can travel through the spacing between the rocks compared to having water just sitting on top of the soil, but when the walkway eventually saturates, where does the water flow to?

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  5 месяцев назад

      Ours is on a slant, so it travels down the pathway and into the street where it goes into the drains

    By laying the pavers directly on the sand aren’t you concerned they will move or sink over time? Why wouldn’t you mortar/cement the pavers and point them so the are solid fixed?

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  3 года назад +6

      The gravel allows water to get in and drain, and it also absorbs ground tension, which prevents the pavers from sinking. Then we added sand over it (and tamped it solid into place) which serves as a main stabilizer over time. When you place the pavers on the sand, they should sink slightly to “lock” the pavers in place. Without the gravel & sand, the pavers will shift over time. You could do cement, but that’s not a draining option for us. Gravel & sand will give the same result (with less work) as the cement, but will also drain heavy rains!

    Nice project. But can you drive on it? What happens if you go a little too far over with a tire?

      I wouldn’t recommend driving on it, you could possibly crack the paver. The driveway is wider than standard, so we’ve never gone into the grass the 8 years we’ve been here.

    Will the pavers not move if they haven’t been cemented in place?? Asking as I’m looking to do this path design myself soon

    can you use fill sand instead of mason sand?

      I wouldn’t because fill sand is more fine and may sink over time. Whereas mason sand is thicker and will really hold the pavers in place
