I've watched a ton of concrete pathways using a stamp. You are the first to go step by step and say how much concrete is needed for each stamp. You showed everything that is needed and pretty much how it will cost to do my job. Thank you for a very well done video! I can't wait to start my project!

That looks really amazing - for me being the age of 74-year-old woman & I think I will need the arms and legs of two young bucks to do the heavy lifting and laying out BUT I will be there to keep them company with scones & cups of tea lol!!! Very impressed!!!
I'm a single woman and when my parents died, I moved to our farm. There's a lot of work to do and this kind of video helped me a lot to understand what I need to do from planning to budgeting and what are the things I needed. I appreciate videos like this.

My parents used the same type of form when they did their walkways in the back yard, but my mom wanted all the stones to be different colors, so they wouldn't look so "concretey". She went to a grocery warehouse store and bought large bottles of food coloring. She brought them home and poured each color into a spray bottle. While the concrete was stilll wet she sprayed each stone with any combination of food colorings. Its been about 20 years, and though the colors are not as vibrant as they once were, they have retained a lot of the color and they still look really good. Those food color bottles are still available at Smart & Final for about $4 per 8 oz bottle.
Hi Bombshelly. That's very interesting. I've never heard that before. But I guess any kind of pigment could give concrete some coloring. Next time I'm mixing some concrete, I think I'll give that a try to see how it comes out. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
U heard of people mixing it into the concrete and it the color staying good for years. Wonder if sealing can help. I will try the color mix some time soon myself.
Hey, thanks for the coloring tip, because I thought about the same idea. Plus, I was thinking about finding some type of glaze as a finish to retain and protect the color; while protecting the stones.
@@jouforward4609 Hi Jou. Yes, coloring concrete can be a very nice option but remember it can be unusually expensive depending on how much you're making. As far as the colorfast, it does hold its color pretty well over the years. If you're planning on trying to use any kind of glaze, make sure that it's not too slippery because you wouldn't want it to get slick when it rains. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
I used a similar form about 25 years ago to do a walkway on 2 sides of the house .. around 11 linear meters (+- 36 feet) long x 1.5 meters (59") wide. Took me a few months, (young kids, rain, household duties) and mixed in a trough. Just me, myself and I 😺 .. I like doing that type of work, so not complaining just stating that even one little lady can do the job in case someone finds the thought overwhelming .. You Can Do It!! I dug, installed concrete borders first plus a little sand and gravelbto even out the base. I used concrete to fill halfway up the spaces in-between where you used topsoil. It still looks good except a section in front where I believe the earth shifted over time with the help of roots, freezes. Oh, by the way, I'm 5'2", similar build to your wife. I live in the Paris suburbs and brought my frame back from a US visit in my luggage. We didn't have them here at that time. Looks like you have a nice large yard, will go check out your other videos . Thx, Alysen
I've done this path. Its really fun. I've added to it over the years, making different curves and turns. I also made a couple forms on an old piece of plastic on the driveway. That way, I have individual pieces to fill in if needed. My path is over 20 years old and had held up great. I'm near Buffalo, New York and the cold has not affected it at all. Have fun.
Hi @sonokoful . Sorry for the delayed response. Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm sure your pavers look beautiful. But if you ever need another pathway in your garden, you can always give this a try. We mix them both together here, at J&D. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
I agree with everyone that commented on how wonderfully your tutorial is. I sure do appreciate you taking the time to give a step by step explanation of how to creat this awesome country stone pathway🥇. Your yard is beautiful 😍Thank you!

I was just going to look to see if anyone had a video on this exact thing and there you were...right in front of me...lol! Gotta love the internet. I'm actually a 70-year-old woman that is just about to tackle this same project. Thank you for showing some tricks you've learned 😁, hopefully I will avoid making them myself. My project isn't as big as yours, yet, however, time will tell. Thank you for the great how to!!!

Very detailed tutorial and perfect job sharing between the 2 of you. You stay mixing concrete where more power is needed and she stays making tiles were precision and attention to detail is important for a good result!! Thanks for the tutorial and your tiles came out perfect!!
Thank you for the compliment. We try to share all of the tasks between the two of us. Making the stone path was so easy - we really enjoy it. Thank you for watching!

So my boyfriend did a huge path for me from the back steps to the front driveway! I bought a contractor pallet of the quick Crete and we used it all my path has helped to keep dirt out of my house. I am not friends with him anymore but he worked his butt off doing this for me, I helped but truthfully he did most of it! Your toutorial was perfect thank you
Hi @tinaashworth8282 : I got a kick out of your message. I think I should probably hide it, so as not to give Jackie any ideas ;-) . Anyway, thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
I've watched several concrete paver form in install videos and by far yours is the best I've seen. Your explainations are easy to understand and your steps easy to follow. I was gonna do a paver walkway to extend my driveway now instead I'm gonna use the country stone with stain and top soil installation technique you shared. Thank you for an excellent video.
Hi Tanya. Thank you for your kind words. We try to put alot into our videos. We're so happy you appreciate it. Be sure to post some pics on our FB page when they're done. We'd love to see them. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for showing every step on using this sidewalk mold. I have had that exact mold for at least 25 years and never used it because I was not exactly sure how to go about it and I didn't have someone to help. The mold was actually given to me by my ex-husband who never used it either because he too was not sure how to use it! I will share your video with him and even loan him the mold again if he wants to pour a pathway still! Seeing it being used and all the little steps was great and I really do appreciate it!!

What I like about this system is you don't have to commit a whole day or weekend to the project. You can just do 2-3 bags at a time on busy days, more on slow days. If you use a trough for mixing the concrete, the cleanup time is probably 10 minutes. You can also avoid those super-hot or cold days. Keep the bags of cement dry, and the project can be done over weeks with little mess in the yard.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you! You can make cheap weed killer with 1 gallon of white vinegar with 1 cup of table salt dissolved in the vinegar and 1 tbsp of dish soap. Cheap and kills everything but won't hurt humans or animals.
Hi Lisa. Thanks for the tip. I know everyone's comfortable using commercial weed killers. We actually talk about that homemade weed killer in our Follow Up video. If you get a chance, take a look at it: ruclips.net/video/B_KhPoNfRU4/видео.html Thank you so much for watching! J&D
Love this comment. I really didn't like all the poison they poured into this garden. Also, with a little base prep, a geotextile, and a small amount of polymeric sand under the top soil joints, they wouldn't need all the poison.
Thanks for the great instructions in your video of using a templete and concrete for your walkway. This will help a lot of people avoid mistakes and discouragement.
Man, really convincing argument on buying VS renting a mixer. I do everything by myself, mixing, transporting, and laying my DIY projects in the yard. This could save me a lot of back breaking work. Im about to jump into buying and using this paver mold which is what brought me here. Thank you for the video.
Hi @chrisblanco8923: Thanks for the comment. Absolutely! If you do alot of work with concrete, a cement mixer is totally worth it! The amount of time and energy spent is definitely worth $300. And actually, that goes with any kind of tool that you're going to be using for a long period of time. We've been replacing all the fence on our property and renting an auger for the whole day is like $89 at HD but buying one is just a little over $200 and I get to work at my own pace ... so it's a no-brainer. But we're glad you enjoyed the video. Remember that the Walk Maker comes in different styles, if County Stone (the one that we have in our garden) is not for you, there's a few other styles that Quikrete makes that we have in links to in the description below. @@jdgardensnj4563 Thank you for your response, i am also replacing fence posts as well and an auger would do wonders but that was always my hesitation when looking to rent, making sure i get it back on time. Keep up the great work and very informative videos, im a first timer at every single DIY project i do and these videos make it so much easier to have the confidence to tackle projects.
Great job, the walkways look great! If you want to add color other than the muted Earth tones offered by QuikCrete, substitute some latex or other water-based paint of your choice of color for some of the water when mixing the concrete. Obviously, adding, say a quart, of paint to a cubic foot of concrete and a few other quarts of water will dilute your color, so the final product won't be the same same shade as what's on the can. Also, if you have larger gaps between stones or on the edges, Dwarf Mondo grass grows naturally in pretty little clumps and only gets 2 or 3 inches tall...it makes a good filler that can help keep weeds choked out, or a good edging, and adds a pretty highlight. Stay Safe!

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking about. You know I'm an out-of-shape sixty-year-old but this is perfect. I could just do a few bags and then take a nap and then a do a few more bags. Lol Thanks. I plan on installing above ground pool. Trying to do everything inexpensively but nice. Thanks again. This would be great as a walkway around the pool.
Hi Doron: Your message made us both laugh. :-) Those 80 lb bags do take a toll on the bones. But like anything, after you do a few of them, you kind of build up your own rhythm and it becomes easier. As far as using the WalkMaker around your pool, be sure to use a concrete with more Portland and less aggregate. You'll want to make the top as smooth as possible so it will be easier on bare feet, as people get out of the pool. Just take your time and tap down any aggregate that's too close to the surface the way Jackie showed in the video. Hope it comes out great - be sure to let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

This is a great video!!! I bought stamps a year ago and have been scared to attempt the project. This video is so informative and gives me the confidence to go ahead and do it. Thank you!!!
Hi @nikkidee0411: Thanks for the comment. Yes, it really is a great DIY project. But we noticed in your comment, that you said "stamp". A stamp for concrete is different than a mold or template. The Walk Maker mold is something that you pour concrete into and it creates individual stones, like pavers. A stamp is something that you press down into an already poured body of concrete that will just leave an impression on the surface. Either one are great options but there is a difference in the process. I hope this made sense - if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

* * * * Those weed killers cause diseases like the big C.. lung problems etc. .. A better idea might be 'MULCH GLUE: it'll lock down that dirt and prevent anything from taking root. You will also be able to use a blower, to clean the walkway, without the dirt blowing out and all over the place. I would spray it along the edge lines also. I'm doing my path with small crushed stone/pebbles, and the Mulch Glue locks them in for years and dries clear.. it's is also used to spray the mulch on the edges of flowerbeds so the weed eater strings don't throw the mulch all over.. I have to say, your garden is sooo beautiful. I love love love canna.. and the white fence just lights up all the colors. Your stone pathway is adorable. this is the kind of place I like to spend time, just sitting and taking it all in and letting the beauty fill my heart.. so peaceful.. thanks for sharing this video guys.. =D

I have done this before at a previous home. It is a lot of work but no more than doing expensive detail oriented pavers. The beauty is once you have the form, you can do it in bite size sections like you did to make it really budget friendly when you don’t have the cash to buy it all in one whack.

Very informative, and well explained process. i have been thinking about doing some of these mold pavers for a while, and now i feel like i can tackle it. Thank you! I do wish you weren’t using soo much weed killer tho. That stuff is terrible for the environment, kills many beneficial insects, and harms the soil, ground water, and runoff. There are natural alternatives! Please consider switching to something less harmful🙏🏻
Hello rpowling. Hope you give it a shot. It's really rewarding doing it yourself. As for the ground clear - we do use a natural home recipe as well but we like to show beginners an easy alternative but point well taken. Thank you so much for watching! J&D
@@luvtteha Hello. Yes, you can use a weed fabric but remember weeds won't grow underneath the concrete stones so its probably not necessary. The reason we use the weed/vegetation killer is to kill anything in the ground in case it takes you a couple of days to finish the project. If its a small project, where you can finish in 1 day, no need for any kind of weed killer. But remember, if you're going to use soil in the spaces between the stones, you will have a problem with weeds. So if you don't like using any vegetation/weed killer, it'll be alot of maintenance. Make sure you watch the Flow Up video, which is a Q&A where we explain about using weed fabric/weed barrier. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

That looks amazing!!! I paid someone to do some for me. Now, I need to add more and I’m planning to DIY it next time. I’m sooo nervous though!!! This video does help me better fully understand what I’m up against. Thank you 🙏🏽 !!!
Hey there. Don't get nervous, it's alot easier than you think. If you've ever mixed a bag of concrete, you can do this. It's very forgiving. It takes awhile to dry so it gives you time to work it. The first one or two bags might be a little intimidating but by the 3rd or 4th, you'll be a pro. Best of luck and post some pics when you're all done on our FB page. We'd love to see them. Thanks for watching!
We're so glad you enjoyed it. Hope you found it helpful. Please keep an eye out for a follow-up video where we will answer viewers questions. Thanks for watching!

Hi Michael: Thanks for the comment. Yes, if you do alot of concrete work, a cement mixer is a MUST. I've had mine for about 15 yrs and it's still going strong. I was just using it all summer, replacing all the fence posts in my backyard...we're talking over 50 bags. If you're thinking of using the WalkMaker, it will definitely be a time-saver. If you have any questions on using the WalkMaker, feel free to reach out again and check out the follow-up video to this one, if you haven't already seen it: ruclips.net/video/B_KhPoNfRU4/видео.html . I used the mold last summer like you did, but boy did I regret it. The amount of labor and time is no JOKE. Took me ~35-45min per mold in the hot sun. Definitely saved money tho, but time is money, so are you really saving? Also a note to people thinking of doing this, make sure to check ur mold. My mold had a cup in the middle so by the time I finished, my walkway was abit uneven.
Hi Bob. Sorry to hear about your mould. It might have been a defect in manufacturing the mould. We've never come across that. As we said in the video, it's better as a 2-person team: 1 person mixing the concrete and the other working the form. Practice makes perfect. We've done so many that we get it down to less than 10 mins per mould. You're right, it definitely saves money! Best of luck on your next project. Thanks for watching!
I bought this concrete template over 20 yrs ago, never did anything with it. I know now I can just throw it out. The pathway looks great but nah, I'm not doing ALL that. lol Wonderful presentation on how to do it.
I live in England uk and the size of my house is the size of ur garden. Ur area looks so clean and nice, I live in a dump compared to u. Weeds are our flowers.
Hi Devi. LOL, your comment made us laugh :-) It is alot of work making/keeping it nice. But we're glad you're enjoying it across the pond. ;-) Thanks for watching. Jackie & Dan

Thank you for sharing this video! I have been dreaming of a backyard patio. I have 2 questions: 1) My backyard is slanted. How do I ensure proper drainage? 2) Whete did you get your mold? In advance, thank you for your time and assistance. Blessings!
Hi @exceptionaleventsbyelisa1931 . Sorry for the delayed response. It really is a great DIY project. As far as your question on slanting, that won't be a problem. The mold follows the contours of the ground. So it will go along with the slant. The key is to make sure your concrete mixture isn't that soupy, so that when you pull the mold off, the blocks stay formed. As far as where to find it, you can get them at Home Depot or Lowes or we have links to all of them in the video description. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

Hi Julie, you absolutely can, actually Garden East on an incline it drops about 16 to 18 inches for one end to the other spanning about 40 feet. The key to making the stones in the template work on a incline, is to not make the cement mixture to soupy. If the cement is to wet or loose, the stone will not hold there form. So, if you have a steep incline, work with a stiffer or dryer cement mix. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching J&D

Great video, very informative! Question: when you were laying the path along the fence line, how did you accommodate for the 6-8 inch gap left? Do you make a few off to the side, separate, and then patch them in? The area we are looking to fill would only accommodate around 2.25-2.50 of the template. PS As a gadget junkie, I rarely need an excuse to buy a new tool, but not even I have ever considered purchasing a concrete mixer! After seeing the end-result of ONE BAG of concrete, while factoring in the size of our property and spare time available, I think you just sold another one for the mixer folks!
Hi Tracy. Glad you enjoyed the video. We keep our paths on both sides at 4 ft wide (2 templates side-by-side) so we were ok with having that little bit of space along the edge. We just filled in the gap at the end with soil. If I'm understanding your measurement properly your space is 2 ft 1 1/4" to 2 ft 1 1/2"? If that's the case, then I would just fill the edges with either soil, hardscape or whatever you plan on using in the gaps. As far as the cement mixer, like I said in the video, it can save you incredible amounts of time and money having your own. A big thing to consider is how many concrete projects you have in the future. Between the paths, concrete slabs for the tents on the property and redoing our fence posts, I can't imagine being without it. Thanks for watching!

Your yard is very pretty. This project turned out very nice. What are your thoughts on planting some type of moss between the rocks? Like Irish Moss? I think that would look so pretty and it would keep the weeds away without the nasty chemicals??
Hi Mermaid Treasure Hunter: Thanks for the comment. Love your handle! ;-) We get that alot from viewers - talking about growing moss in between the stones and we think that would absolutely look great - in the right setting (more of a country-style garden, a little more natural setting). Garden East is a little more structured, with its pathways sandwiched between planter beds and perimeter fences. It just wouldn't look right in this garden. Also the moss would be so pretty that it would take away from the cannas. ;-) But if you have the right setting ... Absolutely! It would look spectacular. As far as the chemical weed killers, we actually get that alot. We just recently posted a new video on how to maintain the pathways from weeds and we even have a recipe for a natural weed killer.
Sounds very smart.👍

Have fun.

Hey Bob. Absolutely! That's the beauty of the system. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
You can also do this as a dry pour.

Stay Safe!
I like that you include all the information on the costs and options 😊

Hi Sue: Thanks for the comment. The Walk Maker is a great DIY project! Remember, there are different patterns if Country Stone (what we show in the video) is not for you. We have links to all the different patterns in the video Details. Also, be sure to check out our Follow-Up video, which was a Q&A by viewers like you: ruclips.net/video/B_KhPoNfRU4/видео.html

@@jdgardensnj4563 Thank you, I really appreciate you!
Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking about. You know I'm an out-of-shape sixty-year-old but this is perfect. I could just do a few bags and then take a nap and then a do a few more bags. Lol
Thanks.
@@jdgardensnj4563 lol. It definitely is good exercise. Thanks For the advise. I was hoping you were going to comment. I will definitely let you know.
We just moved to Florida. We are just trying to figure out a design of things.
Now I'm looking into screens how to develop a screen around the pool and walkway. It's not going to happen for a while but I'll send you a link to when I finish. I better do this before the grandkids get too old. Lol
I really like the fact that you used the top soil! The look is more eye pleasing! Can't wait to start my project! Thx!
Hey Phenomenal ;-) Glad you enjoyed it. The top soil helps it look a little more natural even as the pattern repeats itself. Best of luck with your project. Hello Daughter of Ms DIY! I’ve🖤heard of this and it works well!
Thank you for the tip!!! Have a nice summer🙂
Hi Valerie: Thanks for the compliment - we're glad you enjoyed the video. DIY rules!!! :-) Thanks for watching!
This is brilliant! Thank you for sharing all the great tips and the process! This was very informative and inspirational. I might be integrating something like this in the garden in the future. Thanks again!

Hi @colleenscottcarmello5103 . Thank you for reaching out to us and thanks for the compliment. I've never heard of mulch glue but it sounds intriguing so It think we'll look into it. My parents did this when they had their house built to make the back patio bigger. That was 25 years ago and it still looks awesome!
Great informative video. I'll be doing this project this summer. I agree with you regarding the polymeric sand washing out the individual stones. I'm considering using dirt as well then spreading "walkable" seeds such as Irish Moss or Corsican Mint.

Moss joints would be incredible. Its going to want clean air to grow well though. If you live countryside itll work, cityscape it wouldnt very well.
This is the comment I was looking for. I’m in the south and building my walkway in full sun. I’m going to use creeping thyme.

Hello d_simp 10: Thanks for the compliments. Glad you enjoyed the video and it inspired you to try something new. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
I have done this before at a previous home. It is a lot of work but no more than doing expensive detail oriented pavers. The beauty is once you have the form, you can do it in bite size sections like you did to make it really budget friendly when you don’t have the cash to buy it all in one whack.

Wow I really like that cement walkway, thank you for giving me that idea 💡. I am however concerned about you inhaling the dust from that cement, inhaling that over time can cause emphysema or other respiratory condition, do you know that is why chalk boards were replaced, the dust from the chalk board was causing respiratory problems as well as triggering asthma. So please wear a mask when mixing cement, we want you around for a long, long time.😜😃

Just curious. What were the mistakes? I've got the forms and maybe you can help me out?
What mistakes did you make?
Practical and it looks lovely. I did my garden with pavers and large shaped flowerbeds and it works very well and low maintenance at the seaside 😂👏👏👏
Hi Hester. It sounds beautiful 😀
@@jdgardensnj4563 can I put weed block fabric down rather than spraying weed killer?

Concrete takes wood stain really well, after its dry you can use different colors even diluted to mimic flagstone colors.
Great job Sir. Very informative and I am buying my mixer. You do a wonderful job explaining your process.
Why throw it out? Give it to someone that would like to use it, or donate it.
Yes, this is so good. Thanks for all the details. I'm going to find one of those templates and do this. Probably need to buy a cement mixer.

Thank you for sharing this video! I have been dreaming of a backyard patio.
I have 2 questions:
1) My backyard is slanted.
Jackie & Dan

you absolutely can, actually Garden East on an incline it drops about 16 to 18 inches for one end to the other spanning about 40 feet.

I have learned so much from you in this video. Thank you so much 😊❤

Looks great! I agree about the country stone look. Could you get the same look by using the concrete stain in the jointing sand?
Thank you! Thanks for your comment. The Polymer Sand/Hardscape comes in various colors so no need to add a stain. But in our opinion, nothing looks like real soil. Thanks for watching!
Gorgeous amd very detail oriented, but my husbands impatience, don’t think we could do this project! I love it though.
Hi Laura. Thanks so much for the compliment. This is Jackie ... just give 'em a little nudge. ;-) There's nothing more satisfying than doing a job yourself, not to mention the money savings. :-) Thanks for watching!
Nice Job and as a result, I’m a new subscriber!
