I used to be a huge sneaker head/rep wearer and tried so hard to have the "streetwear" look. A sneaker resale shop opened near my house and everyone who worked and shopped there were total losers. I realized I didn't want to be like that and sold my entire wardrobe and now dress for myself (only Balenciaga)

it took me being made fun of for wearing old navy in 6th grade to wearing fake balenciaga to realize what i wanted. now my favorite clothes are local, like clothes given out to staff, participants in sports tournaments, events, etc. these types of clothes flaunt your wealth in experience rather your literal wealth which i believe is 1000 times more valuable. you can buy your way into high fashion but you will never buy my ultra rare local trampoline park free t-shirt they gave me when i had birthday party there.

I came back to it after a 6-7 year hiatus and reps have changed so much. Like you said, it is a lot more mainstream, but to be fair we've all been teenagers and I did the same thing when I was there age and now tiktok brought reps to a larger audience. It does suck that it's not as underground anymore but as these kids grow older, they'll stop buying reps like we did when we grew older and it'll fall back to what it was before just like every other trend on tiktok.

I used to buy a lot of stuff on pandabuy. Now I buy nearly nothing. There are some great things on there, but most of what you see on the pandabuy feed is low quality garbage. It’s sad how these kids all just copy each other and buy the same garbage. There’s so much good vintage and one of a kind pieces on depop, eBay and grailed for one to form their own unique look.

I've bought a cactus jack hoodie, a pair of black cats (I only had 1 pair of cheap none named nike shoes), a cpfm x nike polo shirt and a nike fleece jacket and a stussy hoodie. None were bought because of the brand. I hadn't even looked into shoes, cactus jack merch line etc. I just looked for what I found nice, without it i'd have never been able to afford any of the clothes since i presume they go for a lot more than the like £20 i bought them for

Judging by your page you’re pretty invested in fashion, so fair enough that the rep stuff isn’t appealing to you. I’m simply not as invested though, and not as knowledgeable, so I can’t tell the difference. It’s purely an economical choice. I like the idea of an off white Nike sneaker (which probably gives you an idea of how little I know about fashion lol) but it’s never going to be a priority enough to buy it- I have other hobbies that I simply enjoy more. So reps are a decent middle ground depending on, like you mentioned, the price as compared to the actual product. The ethical argument I’ve seen other people make also doesn’t wash as much for me because I’ve only ever bought a few reps, all of Nike products. I have a hard time feeling too sorry for them, though I understand they obviously have trademarks to uphold. A handful of times, I've splurged and spent $$$ on an expensive item, but if it doesn't fit or it wasn't what I had hoped for after a couple wears, I can usually get at least 80% of my money back (or over 100% in some cases). But REPS.... are so annoying to own. Nightmare experience. You wait a long time, try on the shoes and ... meh, turns out I think Ramones look corny and don't work with my other clothes. Tried forcing it for a while, people ask about them, and like, most normal, mentally healthy people with lives to live think you're stupid if you spend $1000 on shoes, so there I am being like, "naw they're fake, but fun to wear". But I didn't even like them and I had fake Ricks just like ... rotting in a box, looking all brand new and stupid, shaming me from inside a box in a corner of my bedroom. I don't have dogsh** for a soul, so I'm wasn't gonna try to sell them as real. A friend-of-a-friend ended up buying them off me for a gift for his cousin or something. I let him have them for like $50. I should have just left them outside on a sunny day and let nature reclaim them. Side story: saw a kid like 18 or 19 on a crowded city bus wearing like, whatever clothes (jeans and a black hoodie) and "Balenciaga" bouncer sneakers on the feet. Poor little guy. Probably stressing about like... how many more reps he needs to buy before people don't immediately spot the tryhard. I stopped buying reps and saved up for a few genuine pieces instead of kilograms of landfill material and I am much happier. Really into Stone Island rn and the reps aren’t even close, people just coping saying it is. Even the worlds best reps are still low quality and disposable.
I just got a 40 dollar carhartt detroit jacket from pandabuy and I think it is pretty good quality compared to my reall active carhartt jacket, Imma see how it holds up
