- In this video we're workin on a couple of skidoo 850's. one came in with broken rollers in the secondary clutch so we figured it might be good to show ya's how we change them and while we have two 850's here we might as well race them and see which one is faster eh! 🤣 we really appreciate all the support and subscribers to our channel as well as everyone checking out our website www.rednecks-dirtyhands.com and buying some merch! I hope ya's enjoy the video and as always, Cheers 🍻
Tech tip for the 850 guys. Rollers snap when you go from reverse to forward and you slap the rollers. Ease into it when going from reverse to forward
Another great video Pete! Best channel on the big wide web. I think I will stick with my tripple tripple Yammies after watching the maintenance on Ski-Doo's
Hey Pete and Jim, this is perfect timing to put out this video. I'm right in the middle of tearing into my 2011 Legend 600 Etec with broken rollers! Awesome to see the step by step process before I get deep into it. Thanks for adding the humor also! Always good info with laughs thrown in. Think snow!
Love the video, especially with my beautiful Yamaha being used for demonstration purposes. 😁👍🏻 Here’s 🙏🏻 for all the snow.
Great video again bud! You’re exactly right about the rollers. It’s usually from going forward to reverse and not letting the sled completely idle down. You will hear some guys and that knock as it goes into reverse. That’s what puts a hairline crack in them and next thing it’ll shatter. I’ve blown belts and had them blow apart as well. The hi torq rollers are the best.
thanks buddy! 🍻
Really enjoy your show. I'm new to Ski Doo and have a lot to learn. Great help.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad this video was helpful for you. 🍻
Another one 😊 jst got done rebuilding my 550 fan from ur video and videos , I took the carbs back apart to check em cause it wouldn’t stay running without the juice being sprayed in….and well the needles & seats were stuck ….because of u I learn u should check the oil injection and then I found my oil injected was clogged..guess wht it was the side that blew up 😅 3 years ago I would of blew up the new engine …also the last week I kept getting busy waiting for parts and stuff and didn’t know why I didn’t want to ride.. well I pulled the chain case and the bolt was broken off in the case 😅 I was lucky taped it out backwards and put a new bolt in the thing was like that for idk how long , but tension was so tight it kept the chain and gear on there but it start eating threw the case 😢 only a tiny rub but I would of been screwed if I didn’t check it now she is mint thanks for all the videos there a #nice1 😅😊😊❤❤ thanks for helping me fix my sleds :) ur the best
Another awesome video guys. Always great to see you guys having a bit of fun at the end of the video with the sleds.
Enjoyed the dangle at the end...they were both rippin'. Thanks for another great vid.
Absolutely love watching your videos humor mixed with knowledge
Glad to hear it!🍻
Awesome knowledge you and jimmy are doing. Keep me entertained and alittle jealous. Have a merry Christmas and new years.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! 🍻
I remember us teenagers up on the hill with a fire and all of a sudden we counted 60 sleds on the river we jumped on our old junk sleds and went to join ended up in my relatives cabin by home one of my best memories
Another Nice One! Thanks for this fellas I love learning stuff!!! Keep the vids coming boys.
We'll keep the vids coming! 🍻
Excellent work as always! She dangles!
I'm very impressed with your clutch rebuild skills
thank you! 🍻
Great shots and editing! Always enjoy how too vids as well even for a sled i dont own, its all great information that can be re applied in lots of ways😊
Thanks man, I appreciate you watching! 🍻
I've owned 2 Yamahas and couldn't sell them fast enough but still have the 03 skidoo I bought 15 years ago and 2 new ones in the trailer
Great how too on the secondary. No skidoo in my fleet and likely never will be, but I've got a couple buddies that are gluttons for punishment lol. I'll be ready to help out when theirs are due for rollers...
Nice one!
Now I am even happier with Polaris 😅
3/32 punch for the roll pins. Always replace stock rollers with the ones from HI-Torque located out west. That pin on the chaincase should not be pulled it looked like it was in the wrong spot.
Prime example of an engineer making something overly difficult in hopes that you will take it to the dealer and make them more money. All this does for me is make sure I'lll never own a SkiDoo,
Always fun and informative, great way to spend sometime on YT
Glad you think so! cheers 🍻
Hey Pete, it’s a really good idea to not use the factory parts, but the upgraded phonic resin rollers. They are a lot tougher.
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check those out 🍻
As always, Pete your videos are always entertaining
And never had the opportunity to learn it but the first day on my f1000 I was comfortable
Good video. Common issue, I have had to replace the rollers on my Skidoo’s.
It is possible to replace the rollers without pulling the bearing and splitting the clutch. It is tight but there’s enough room to get the rollers in.
Replace those smooth torx bit bolts on the back side of the secondary with standard hex head bolts. Then you can get a normal combination wrench on them without having to take that jackshaft out. I recently put a full clutch kit spring and helix without having to pull the entire jackshaft.
Again road trip north Nb can’t go wrong trails best smelt fries everywhere in January just cool and some montians if you go to the right place so many trails
I can't wait for you to take a look at my sled. I know it will be in good hands that's for sure.
Excellent video, very detailed and the drobe footage will be great! I'm wondering Pete if you could do a video on greasing the etec pto and mag crankshaft bearings next? It's a bit of a job and that isoflex grease ain't cheap!
Thanks, I'll put it on the list! 🍻
@rednecksdirtyhands excellent, all us etec owners will thank ya! 🍻
You guys sure look good on skidoos.
Hell ya. Nice work guys. Owners odd to be happy with two fresh rippers cheers 🍻 👊
another great video hope your Christmas is going good have a good one ride safe drive safe and God Bless
Here in Winnipeg it's -20⁰C. The maintainer just went by and filled my sidewalk that goes across the boulevard to the street with about 2½' of snow.
Not a '' nice one '' lol.
Ride safe, Dudes and Dudette..
Having the belt deflection adjusted properly and having proper track tension. Goes a long ways with rollers breaking. along with not being a bonehead when switching from reverse to forward and back. Ive logged well over 10k on 4 or 5 different ski doos with that clutch design and ive never broken a roller. That being said i see people break em all the time. You want a great video on belt deflection dynamo joe has a good how to.
Another Great video #Thanks
Very interesting ✌️✌️👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🤔🤔
Appreciate ya! 🍻
Nice one , good to know I own a ski doo🍻
If ski doo would put cat or Polaris clutches on there sleds it would be the biggest game changer. It’s the tale as old as time ski doo with clutch issues. Belt blowing junk. I just switched back to doo and I’m regretting it and haven’t even rode it
I've had ski doo and Polaris sleds. I'll buy a ski doo over Polaris any day !! I never had an issue with my summit, but then again, I took care of my sleds. My friend runs a rental business, and he had to go out and retrieve almost every Polaris 600 sled because they quit running. He complained to Polaris that he was doing their R&D/product testing. He also ran ski doo sleds and had no issues. Since then, he's increased the amount of ski doo sleds in his rental system compared to Polaris. It used to be 50-50.
Almost jad to watch yhe video again.....no beer break?? Lol. Jere in Minnesota no snow yet. Fingers crossed though as always keep on keeping on
haha cheers to ya in Minnesota 🍻
My secondary is off my sled right now to install the new updated Skidoo rollers as preventive maintenance. It doesn't take too much time to get the secondary off.. And you dont have to pull the bearing off to change the rollers.
You don’t even have to take the secondary out to change the rollers. I just did mine with it still in the sled and it was even easier yet. Pulling the secondary and shaft out isn’t bad, but just one more step.
So many logal things going on race all class just local but people come long way to compete and experience the friends fro N b you will not be disappointed m
Great Stuff Boys! Well Done
Yes thank you love the video
Glad you liked it! 🍻
Pull the Jack shaft to service the driven clutch ? Crazy engineering !
I just did mine, took maybe 30-40 minutes to get the hood exhaust and clutch off.
Great job and very educational. Thanks
It did to tickle i laughed 😂😂
Nice one Pete 👍
Hey guys love the show lol
I’ve got a problem with my rx warrior it’s a 2005 and it won’t rev over 3 grand I’m lost with it
I have a 2017 renegade 850X and had to take my secondary to the dealership to change my rollers because I couldn’t get the pins out but I had them change the bearing to. There a pain in the ass and the rollers break a lot more often than you think until you upgrade them
What a pain in the ass than his clutches. I'd rather do 30 of the old clutches. Then even five of those. Definitely after that beer time lol. 🇨🇦
I love the video can’t wait till you start drag racing when you get some snow. What Mackinski up to .I don’t think I spelled it right 😂😂😂😂. Say hi to your beautiful girlfriend for me. I just closed my auto body shop up and now I’m retired so I have time to watch your videos. My shop was like your every one can over to hang out.❤
Thanks, we'll get those drag races going as soon as the snow comes! 🍻
Happened to me on mine I put the heavy duty ones in no more troubles!
Love your content bro please keep it up my dudes
Ya seems like the old school way isn’t always inferior 🤗
Nice Video. Any updates on the turbo 2-stroke sidewinder ?
thank you! I'm just waiting to get the motor back and I'll get back yo work on it 🍻
Hey Pete, Check out Thunder Products Clutching out of my home town Cedarville mi in the UP . They sell replacement rollers for the ski doo clutch , they are far superior to the stock ceramic ones. And they are cheaper than stock. I know of several people that have used them, and I am about to change mine out on my 900r. Thanks for the video on how to do it, will be very helpful in the swap . Perfect timing!! You and Jim rock!!!!!!
,
Good Work!
Thanks man, appreciate it! 🍻
there is a aftermarket kit that solves this engineering ridiculous design. solves pete's problem of removing entire shaft. team or rapid reaction 2 roller design seem to always bind vs the older 3 helix design. nice video pete cheers
You're looking like us in Northern Wisconsin. No snow. I'm worried about this season being a repeat like last yr also
New video ……Nice One 🎉🍺🍻
I like watching your videos
Great video buddy
I got a problem with my 700 xc edge she over heating on me yesterday while getting off the lake hopefully I can figure it out!
I got a 600r etec Renegade just put new pto injector n wih buds on with computer but won't start yet maybe need new ecm? It's hard to get help iin a small community love watching your show
Most people just ride trail and like you say who can afford the price me last one 2015 sidwinder sold it can’t fix it love ❤️ my F1000 own 2 one I bought for parts never touched now I want to put it back on the trail all it kneds is a motor repair
Nice one bud 🍺🍺
So bring a trail sled and a couple of fast ones see what you can get up to
Where wud I go to get a good vise like you have? My grandpa had good ones but they went with the home farm well over 45yrs ago. And I never had a good one 😢
I'm in NY on the US/Canada border(St Law River)
I'm not sure if harbor freight sells them in the states, might be worth a look or check out industrial auctions...sometimes ya can find some sweet stuff at the auctions and get a sweetheart of a deal too! 🍻
when you put clutch back together, why not using longer bolts to pull helix in ? no need to use vice (might jump off)
yeah that would work eh! couple lengths of threaded rod and some nuts and washers to pull it together...good idea!! I'll have to giver a go! cheers 🍻
Change the helix bolts to hex bolts. Use the circlip roller bolts if you can. Buy the qrs helix tool. Buy the good rollers.
Great advice, thanks! 🍻
Let's go on lunch break even
What a terrible secondary design,omg,never will i own a skidoo,great video
Thanks! Yeah, the secondary can be a bit of a pain sometimes. 🍻
You don't need to pull the R-Clip on the chain case tensioner to actually turn the tensioner loose.
Does the bearing have a mark where it stops when u pressing it back on? Or u have to mark it so u don't throw off the belt alignment when it's all back together?
it has a ledge that it stops at so you can't press it on too far 🍻
if your easy going into reverse they last a little longer. did mine on a 2015 600 mxz but I don't remember removing the bearing. are the new ones different?
You don't have to remove the bearing if it's still good.
Pimento! hahahaha Hilarious!
🤣🍻
Hey Pete I live about a 1/2 hour away from you. Just wondering do we even get winter anymore. I haven't even fired my sled in 2 years. I think in the last 5 years I've only been on maybe 6 or 7 rides. It's getting depressing And I hate trailering.
I know 2 guys recently having seconddary clutch problems. Must be pretty common problem
its way easier if you run the RS jackshaft and team secondary. Then the jackshaft stays put and one bolt for the secondary
When I never really tried but I like my 2008 f 1000 more that side winder did not feel like i had control
162nd 👍
Comment love gents
Frm CHICAGO
No ski doo for me,excellent filmography
Glad you enjoyed the video! 🍻
39:13 creeper by the Christmas tree
Pete do u have any cooling issue videos on the older liquid cooled sleds probably 2001 to 2002 Polaris sleds?
They’re bad for water pumps.
@@CULT539thanks for the info anything helps!
What are the skidoo guys has a trick to get in them in without removing everything
Do your magic on the trail stuff breaks good vibes I fix on the trail
Geez there is a ton of corrosion on jimmies 850? Trailer that thing in the salt spray or what?
Think snow guys!
After watching this video there is no chance of buying a Ski Doo. Totally ridiculous for this to be that complicated. No wonder prices are so high.
He made a bigger deal out of it than it really is. I broke my rollers and the first time I made the repair it didn’t take much time at all.
A new skidoo at least. I love Yamaha triples but I respect the late 90s and early 2000 skidoo mxz . there good sleds
@@MattGuard-s5u I have a new Doo, An Apex and an RX-1. None of them are perfect and all have inherent issues. Some of those issues are easily addressed and never worried about a second time. Rollers are one of them. Use hardened rollers and never need to do it again. My older Yamahas have plenty of well known design issues as well.
What ARE you going to buy? I’m guessing nothing. Don’t have nothing but sore thumbs on the Obama phone.
@@oldjarhead386 just ment there easier to work on and 20 to 30 years old with minimal problems unless you beat the snot out of them. Personally I like the older sleds better. Its all an opinion. Not saying I'm right. Just my preference
I never realize how big it was 😅 u know ur vise 😅😂
The only time that blue does anything is when Jim isn’t racing.
AN JUST like that. I am Glad I Don't own a SKI DOO. Couldn't work on that on the side of the trail and get you home. Deff Would need a tow job.
My buddy blew his and drove it home.. it wasn't pleasant, but he made it.
punch size is 3/32
I have a 1991 Arctic cat cougar 440 looking for a primary clutch
If you don't mind ..what year of skidoo an how many km?
This design although has varied slightly but the roller design dates back to 2008. They just updated the material the rollers are made out of. It's not a km issue. They can break with 1 mile on em. Ive seen em go 7k without breaking
Put hd rollers from n2 suspension its 10 time much stronger than the oem one...
Did anyone hear about artic cat
yeah bad news eh! Hopefully they make it through!! 🍻
I hate to see the grass around your shop!!!! That means we don't stand a chance here in northern Maine!!!
Why would you not put hitorque rollers in it..they are made of fiber and will last way longer, you are gonna be replacing them again soon
I'll stick with my arctic cat 🐈
