This has to be my favorite song of all of Pink Floyd. It just means a lot to me lyrically. Thanks for this.

One of my favourite performances and solos. I'd even pick this over the famed Comfortably Numb solo, from Pulse (which is saying something, given how special is that one!).

I love how the song builds. The lyrics are inspirational and the music majestic. All from a Scottish folk chord progression.

The intro puts one in a meditative mood, a perfect mindset for the messages in this song. Chills when female singer wails it out loud 'n' proud!

I prefer this to Comfortably Numb (as a song and as a performance) on the Pulse tour. Thank you for featuring my recommendation eventually. 😅

🎸🎶 This song is so remarkable! I can't really believe that David Gilmore is 78 yrs old! How time flies. He is such an extraordinary musical talent and his dedication is still as strong as ever on his new album, which he is also touring! Wow🎸What a remarkable musician he still is.That solo - speachless... 🙏🎸🎶

I really think the beginning of "Coming Back To Life" is a much better example of David's subtle excellence on the guitar. The opening is to die for!!!

When you start to discover the Pink Floyd catalogue for the first time, very often the first song that you listen to is your favourite ......... until the next song, then THAT becomes your favourite ........ until the the next one after that and then THAT becomes your favourite ......... and so on and so forth!

Very good analysis. Just imagine the a capella moment in a 50k+ loaded stadium. That tour is as epic as every other one for those who witnessed it live. First tour without Roger Waters. Guy Pratt was the 3rd era bassist, and still is to this day, Gilmour's bassist.

Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow, but he was raised in Blyth in the NE of England, and still has a Geordie accent (like mine, in fact).
David has just done a couple of gigs with his daughter Romany in his local pub, he'd have no problem playing in your tent.
That's not Roger, he left the band 3 years before, that Guy Pratt, a much better bassist.

No Roger in this, Guy Pratt is the bass player, Roger had left Floyd for good, Guy has been working with David for over 30 years now and is his bass player on the current round of gigs in support of Luck and Strange.

This was a great performance, but I would argue that the Pulse concert version is better. This could be the only time I have seen Gilmour tap a note.

Excellent analysis as usual. However, this was Pink Floyd after Roger left, so that bass part was not composed by nor played by Mr Waters. Though many would argue the bulk of the musicality and musical genius flowed through Gilmour and Wright. Have you seen any of the material from David's latest album released a few weeks ago? His website has a series of short demos of the various guitars he is using and you can see a small sample of pedals and modulators he uses:
