- "I Remember You" ~ Jan Savitt & his Orchestra w/ George "Bon Bon" Tunnell (1942) Victor -
Also recorded by : Freddie Martin on Bluebird Records , Jimmy Dorsey on Decca Records , Harry James on Columbia Records , & Charlie Spivak on Okeh Records . Multiple versions of "the songs of the day" were the "norm" of the 1930's, throughout the 1940's and into the 1950's. Issues began to arrive when writers spun it as a race issue, instead of what it was : 1st : admiration of a song. 2nd : competition between rivaling bands or performers. 3rd : multiple recording labels competing for top sales = $. However, what it wasn't was a race issue, since 95 % of Big Bands in the 1930's & 1940's were white and were in competition with each other for top spot on the charts, record sales, & for ticket sales.
Thanks for the memorys sat by the radio and listen to this music
big band & swing was the thing yaza and a hi de hi de yo
Very nice full arrangement with great instrumentation combined with interesting chord structures. I could go on about Jan's band. First time I played one of his 78s, I couldn't believe what beauty I heard. "I Remember You" is just one recording that the likes of Tommy or Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, etc. couldn't touch.
Victor 27775, recorded 1-12-1942. Awesome tune.
