Absolutely. You’re right, maybe the live action one will have it. But the originals absolutely deserve their own release. Physical or streaming. Or both.
I wish almost all movies got album releases, even if it was just a Limited edtion or super expensive same goes for tv shows some cues and Jingles are awesome
As for movies that I wish would release a score-only version, ALL the _Star Wars_ movies (the only one with a score-only version being _The Last Jedi)._ As for scores that I want a full release, I wish they would just give us the complete score or recording sessions from the get-go. Because a lot of album releases of scores usually only have a decent majority of the full thing, but they edit them down to fit onto 1 or 2 discs. And the reason I hate that is typically the stuff they leave out of the album releases are MY FAVORITE BITS OF THE SCORE! For example, _Avatar: The Way of Water._ There's a track called "Na'vi Attack", which is supposed to be the track where Jake, Neytiri, and the Metkayina attack the RDA forces that have their kids captive. But if you listen to the track and listen to the scene from the movie where it's from, you'll realize the track version is fragmented, missing pieces, and has alternate orchestrations from certain scenes. And I HATE that!
I've so many thoughts about this so I'll try to keep it short. When creating my videos, I typically will boost the music so it's easier to hear what I'm talking about. Having a score only version is perfect for this reason and for others that want to enjoy and study the score in context. The Matrix has a score only/commentary track on one of it's blu ray releases some films change the music after recording and the edits are covered by dialogue or sound effects, like the T-Rex Rescue had music spliced over it, Sorcerers Stone added in a measure during the Flying Keys, or even the 2 beats repeated in HTTYD that were edited in after the fact. having these released as music only might showcase these edits that might only work in the final film that production companies don't want out there. This is why I like having the complete score/scoring session recordings too, to see what was changed or perhaps alternate scores for scenes. While my list would be long as I would love score only versions of many films, the short list would be LotR, all Star Wars and Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Avatar with the original score, HTTYD of course, and many MANY more
Great point. It’s not going to fit exactly the same, and there’s reason for that like you said. I still wish these were more publicly released. It can only be learned from, can’t it? And good choices!
I would want ET with just the music. After all, John Williams says it is his favorite score of his in terms of thematic development, and the final 15 minutes were re-edited to match the music because he had trouble recording it with the orchestra in synch with the movie.
@paulytheking7365 Absolutely, and I love that story. Seeing E.T. in concert was incredible. Have you seen my video about the score? ruclips.net/video/hBWhQxznEQA/видео.htmlsi=VaGz-04eqPjcJuHj
As soon as I started serving soundtracks to films (it all started with King Kong 2005), I was disappointed that some compositions that I wanted to hear separately from the film were not in the album. I didn't know much about it then and was upset. Later, I learned about more complete releases and found what I wanted. But I'm leading to the fact that albums of "original soundtrack" are full of fluff, which may not contain any bright diamonds, and sometimes they completely spoil the original material by cutting out fragments, or combining some tracks together (I still haven't forgiven the album for this The Lost World: Jurassic Park soundtrack)
@@FilmScoreandMore yeah, but trying to figure it out is very interesting. Especially when you have a list of numbers and names from a recording session (1m1 and etc.)
I would kill for a score-only release for any of Randy Newman's pixar scores. (Cars 1 especially, since a few of the cues aren't present in the FYC album)
Definitely! Definitely! Definitely I would love for you to review the score for “The Adventures of Robin Hood” from 1938. It’s one of my favorite scores The DVD released a few years back included a score only track. I was able to get a recording of the original score and it is phenomenal. All other recordings of this movie’s music are just that recordings and not the original. Before John Williams, there was Eric Wolfgang Korngold. I think it’s one of the most perfect scores ever written, and I would love it if you reviewed it on this channel.
I have a blu ray box set of the original Twilight Zone, and lots of the episodes have an isolated score option. I wish it was more common... it can't be much work/cost to do it.
Yeah, I know. I hate doing background music, and it never feels right to me. I know it’s the least important thing and I just need to get something done at that point. It has to be there but shouldn’t be noticeable, and it can’t be long enough to get a copyright claim.
I was just complaining the other day that there are parts of the HTTYD soundtrack I can't get anywhere! I also love Tintin and would be excited to get a full score release for that too.
Have you checked out the deluxe albums for HTTYD 1 and 2? It should be everything from the movie plus some alternate versions and demos, with the HTTYD 3 one coming out next year. ruclips.net/p/PL8VyJnd2JR07HdGqLhQpl5F2dTZjtTpCC&si=v_9AlSRJloucB6Bb
Looks like my comment was deleted. Trying again. There have been numerous films with isolated score tracks released on DVD and Blu-Ray. Just do a search for them and you'll find all of the title. Some of them even include composer commentaries as well. One of the best ones is hearing Goldsmith and Horner intended score to Alien and Aliens. It's amazing how well Aliens lines up with the current cut even though it was edited to death in post.
Thanks for reposting. It’s a new concept to me, but I’m glad they do it and hope for more. I ran across a few in researching this, but a lot of the obvious ones like (Raiders) don’t seem to have any. I’d rather see that.
Literally my favorite film score, period! And one of my all-time favorite movies. Unfortunately, there are ZERO special features on the blu ray, lol, let alone an isolated score... Edit: I'm assuming you bought the score book from Chris Siddall. It would be nice to read along with the film in real time. The movie is due for a new release though pretty soon... fingers crossed that they'll add an iso score.
I'm so glad this was allowed by Disney or whoever has control over this. The whole CD debacle was really bad, and it's hard to enjoy the film knowing some amazing quotes and new music was just left off the album, since they can only allow an hour and twenty minutes on them. Plus, the entire sequence of events starting from the Tomb scene to the Credits is written in a way that makes me think this'll feel like a silent film when watching this version. Edit: They probably put this version on Physical cause they felt bad for those who couldn't get the CD.
@@FilmScoreandMore Oh I personally don't own the physical copy yet, I'll probably get it on the 25th, it's just a file rip of it. But I did sync the 3rd act to a digital copy I have and a few other sequences, it's wonderful. I think you'll love it.
There actually have been Score-Only-Features on DVDs before. I own several Danny Elfman-scored films which have that option. My copy of Chicken Run has one too. So, this is nothing new, but certainly something more movies desperately need.
@@FilmScoreandMore I know, but it’s great to have. And I wished pretty much every movie had that option. My guess is that they don’t want to risk people ripping the score and distribute it illegally, that’s why we don’t see this more often.
@TheDeppertLasseVogt Probably. But you’d think the more popular scores would have them. The only Star Wars movie to have it is The Last Jedi. You’d think in all the times people have seen the original a score-only version would be a new way to watch it.
What movies do you want to get a score-only release? What scores do you want a full release for or wish would get a release at all?
How to Train Your Dragon absolutely deserves a score only release. Perhaps that might happen with the live-action version?
Absolutely. You’re right, maybe the live action one will have it. But the originals absolutely deserve their own release. Physical or streaming. Or both.
I wish almost all movies got album releases, even if it was just a Limited edtion or super expensive same goes for tv shows some cues and Jingles are awesome
I agree. It should be available, and I’m sure a lot of composers would like their work to be showcased and appreciated that way.

I’ve definitely heard of it. And I’m glad to know it received a score-only release. That’s worth looking into.
James Newton Howard is such a master of film music I'd adore having score-only versions of his work.
He’s an excellent choice. Maybe some day.
I have a blu ray box set of the original Twilight Zone, and lots of the episodes have an isolated score option. I wish it was more common... it can't be much work/cost to do it.
I wouldn’t have expected The Twilight Zone. Maybe those stories take place in a world where the only sound is music.
Dude the first bar of the "Raiders March" looped as background music makes me furious 💀😂

There's so many I would want to see do this. Top of the list is The Rocketeer.
