      Can do although the P770s will be at a disadvantage straight away due to loft. The i530 and 245 but less so are slightly larger Players Distance irons more like the P790 in dimensions. I fear that physics will dictate a loser unfairly so 👍🏻

      @@AskGolfNut that is insane to me. I see so many RUclipsrs with reviews. That said, can you just get a fitting set from another local pro shop that does fittings and in turn shout them out for the help? We need your reviews! Don’t let Titleist stop them!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад +1

      @chrisbouriat6947 I agree it's insane, but due to the unique way I review equipment, by physically testing the forgiveness of different parts of the face etc, I have in some cases been met with some resistance letting me test them. Now that can be taken a numbers of different ways depending on cynical one is 😊
      On the topic of borrowing the fitting cart from a local pro shop. I have actually approached a local golf course (Bury St Edmunds) and they basically said no 🤣
      Unfortunately in the golfing world, Pros don't like others Pros around their territory on the basis of fear that the incoming Pro will 'steal' a portion of their customer base for lessons etc. Now regardless of me saying that I only do the odd lesson here and there now since moving to a full time RUclips business model, they still have this massive resistance to it 🤷
      Personally, I feel that other Pros should feel more confident in their own ability as a coach and if they are worried about a fleeting visit from another Pro messing with their client base then they themselves need to look at their own performance and deliver a better experience to their customers 🤷👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Great review as always. I just got fit into the 245's and had the pleasure of comparing the i530, P790, P770 and a few others that didn't make the cut. With all the amazing clubs coming out in this category (players distance) going through a fitting will get you into your most optimal situation. These match ups really helped me see how close all the major brands are. The difference of which club works best can come down to what suits the eye, the sound and the feeling on the hands. Thanks for putting out another great review.

    Jay, the results surprised me a little as I expected the i530 to provide more forgiveness. Albeit, there isn't much difference the Pro245 comes out on top and for us who like quiet/soft...wins there too. Looking forward to the Cobra should you have time to get to it and hopefully a non-hollow head match up with the Wilson.

    The best comparison videos on RUclips for golf clubs bar none thanks to you Jay !!! I’m surprised of the forgiveness comparison as I’d figure the ping would win easily. I tried both models against each other last year and found the pings so much easier to launch for me being a slow swinger.

    Jay, great info as usual. One thing that caught my attention is the mention of these types for player distance irons blurring the lines with GI irons. For those of us looking to refresh our sets, should "we" put Players Distance and GI iron into consideration for testing (Hcp 8-11)? i.e. JPX HM/Pro vs. 245, G430 vs. G530. It may be a stretch, but I wonder how close they really are. Any thoughts here appreciated.

    To summarize: they are almost equal for forgiveness, i530 will launch slightly higher and spin slightly less, 245 will sound quieter/"feel" softer. On toe and heel strikes they are almost identical though technically 245 is slightly better, though likely imperceptible on the golf course. I530 is slightly larger vs the more compact 245.

    You look to be,size wise, a person that does not need a length adjustment to your irons. You don’t know how lucky you are are. I need overlength irons. Half inch to an inch long. I can’t count the number of times that I demoed irons at standard length and thought they were great. Hi, then ordered them and they were basically unplayable. Too heavy too lite, swing weight out of whack . shaft did not perform the same, etc. etc.. You do everything else in your reviews accepted address this issue. Some OEMs Deal with this issue very well others could care less. Don’t know what you can do about this problem, except talk to the sales reps that you get your demon demo clubs from and ask them to have their company deal with this problem..

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  27 дней назад

      I know Mizuno carry a lot of half inch extra shafts within their Fitting cart. Also they have different A and B weighted heads for the different shafts used to ensure that swingweight isn't affected. It would be really interesting to know whether you tackled this with a manufacturer that the in real life ones do not in any way reflect the demo ones to make the decision of payment. There's always a reason, it's just depending on how transparent the fitting process is 👍🏻

    • @jherl8307
      @jherl8307 26 дней назад

      Mizuno has dispensed with their A/B heads. My latest calamity was a week ago with an order of JPX FORGED. They came thru cockeyed. I called Mizzy for an explanation and was informed of this. Back in the day when they did have A and B heads. The problem was that the B head was so light if you ordered them with a graphite shaft, you’d end up with an Iron that felt similar to a car antenna. It was so light. I was actually advised by one of their sales reps to order a heavy shaft for overlength orders because of this. I ordered a very expensive set of PXG irons back in the day with an MMT graphite shaft those irons came through at something like C7 or C8 swing weight wear upon. I called the company and asked for an explanation and was advised by one of the manages to use some lead tape to tweek the swing weight Well at $400 a club I don’t think I should be gumming up a set of irons with lead tape. Taylormade doesn’t sell by swing weight or at least they didn’t. They just put the shaft in the head and the swing weight came out however it came out one time I ordered a set of Taylormades and they came through a D7 swing weight. I’ve gone through 20 to 25 sets of clubs in the last 10 years because of this problem. I’m simply at wits end. My next foray will be with Ping. I know they can pump something into the head to create a proper swing weight that I may be looking for. Let’s see. This is a real problem through out the industry, that is, making balanced properly swing weighted over length irons. Oh one last sob story. One customer rep for a major OEM actually told me outright that if I wanted a properly fitted over length irons order that I should go to Club Champion or someone like that because they (the OEM) doesn’t have the time or inclination to be so particular. Thanks for listening. At this point I need a shoulder to cry on. 😂 Oh I’ll hit the like button as well.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  26 дней назад

      @jherl8307 that's very kind of you and I feel for your predicament. There is and always will be something that can be or should be down by either fitters or manufacturers at production to alleviate swingweight issues.
      When I used to Coach and Custom Fit full time and I had someone that was very sensitive to swingweight, on completion of the fitting and the client settled on a weight then I would physically swingweight the constructed spec and give that to the manufacture to build on that basis.... Never had an issue with weight from that point, sometimes it's really tricky when you have someone that needs really long irons that is difficult to spec as fitters don't have all shaft option in very long shafts. 👍🏻

  • @robertshields6214
    @robertshields6214 5 месяцев назад

    Wish we had better fitters in Florida. Our options are Club champion who only try to upsell you on shafts and you fit hitting a 6 iron which is weird. Golf Galaxy and PGA store just seem to have young guys telling you whatever their managers told them to sell that week.
    If anyone has better options let me know because i would like to upgrade this season.

    Hi Jay, another superb informative video! I think you have just made my mind up for me, will be purchasing the Mizuno Pro 245. Have done a fitting with the 245, 243, and some other clubs and the Mizuno Pro 245 came out on top for me. Unfortunately, the fitter did not have the shaft I currently play ( Mitsubishi MMT 85gm) but had the Recoil 95 which performed well. I think I will order 2 clubs, 5 irons with one with the MMT and one with the Recoil 95 and play them both for a week or so to compare then I will place my order for the remainder of the set. Just want to pick your brain if I may. I am playing Apex Pro irons right now that I picked up used and the lofts were strengthened by 2 degrees which I did not realize at the time of purchase. I know this lowers the bounce 2 degrees as well and I seem to get very short square divots, could this be due to lack of enough bounce. It seems to make the turf interaction feel a bit harsher than I would expect. Thoughts??

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +1

      The reason I ask and not to overstep an upcoming video on the subject but, the APEX Pros are fairly low bounce irons, much along a similar route that most manufacturers go for their Players irons range. If you are hitting down 4 to 5 degrees and let's say for assumption purposes you are also through shaft lean delofting about the same, then there won't be any bounce delivered whatsoever. It could be either side, delivering positive 1 degree or so or even negative bounce. Turf interaction is a huge myth that I will most probably tackle on Mondays Open to All Live Stream at 7pm UK Time.
      For the vast majority of people bounce is a huge nothingness 👍🏻👍🏻
      If you are experiencing difference in turf interaction, I can near on guarantee it's not due to bounce 👍🏻

      @garyshaw2954 depending on your endurance and you propensity to change swing speeds as you get tired, I would limit the testing to maybe 3 heads. Shaft choice with the Mizuno can be fairly quick as you'll remove a lot of wasted swings. Other manufacturers fittings may well extend the stay. Thanks for all your hard work and thorough, detailed analysis. I have a question about the results for center, heel, low and toe results. You focused on efficiency adjusted for loft difference. But I was looking for variation in carry, how much you might lose from an off center strike. The Mizuno had carry ranging from 171 to 182, with club speed 88.5 to 90.7. So pretty consistent. Probably would be even less difference if club speed was identical, but you are human, not a robot. The Ping had what at first looks like such a huge difference that you would not want to use the club. Carry from 153 to 188. But look at the club speed. It ranged from just 81.9 to 92.2. That is a far, far wider range than the Mizuno. If you take out the low strike, where club speed was only 81.9 and carry as a result only 153, the Ping produces much more consistent results with club speed ranging from 91.9 to 92.2 and carry from 182 to 188. That is only 6 yards. If you do the same for the Mizuno, drop the low strike, you get club speed 88.5 to 90.7 and carry 173 to 182, which is a 9 yard difference. If the range of club speeds was as narrow for the Mizuno minus low strike as for the Ping minus low strike, I think the carry difference would come down and be the same as for the Ping at 6 yards. And if the club speed for the Mizuno was as high as you got for the Ping, or the Ping as low as for the Mizuno, I think the carry differences would be more like 5 or 6 yards rather than the 9 to 11 yds you got. And that difference would be due purely to the difference in lofts. So both clubs would be virtually identical in forgiveness.

      Hi John, due to the very complex nature of the answer (I've just tried to answer it, spend ages making a reply and it doesn't really make sense reading it through so deleted it for this response), what's best is to raise this exact question during the Live Stream tomorrow (7pm UK Time and will be on for a couple of hours no doubt). That way I can give you an explanation that covers all your points and makes sense 👍🏻👍🏻

    Your strikes with the Pro 245 are nearly all toe-down, while the i530 are all flat. I’m thinking if you bent the lie angle to fit your swing and struck it level you would have better results with it over the competition. I saw the same in your 245 vs TM 790 video. Surprised you haven’t bent the Pro 245 to fix this…?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Garth, they are all media samples that come through as they come. Lie angle will affect dispersion patterns horizontally but within reason everything else will be fine. When it comes to my gaming set absolutely they are lie angle adjusted 👍🏻

    Hi Jay! I know the Pro 245 7 iron, 6 iron and down are equally as forgiving as the P790, i530 and T200. My question is,since Mizuno takes away all of the tungsten in the 8 iron through wedge, is it still equally as forgiving as the P790, i530 and T200 in the 8 iron and down? I know the P790 drops the tungsten in the 8 iron and down too. I am not sure when the i530 and T200 drop their tungsten? I am just curious if the Pro 245 becomes a little bit more of better ball strikers iron on the 8 iron and down vs P790, i530 and T200.
    Thank you, Joe

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +2

      The main reason tungsten starts coming out in 8 irons etc is that loft deflection starts having a greater impact on forgiveness and launch than the tungsten itself so starts to become a pointless inclusion or at least not something that has such a beneficial use like in the mid to long irons. Most manufacturers blend the technology so that golfers don't get ballooning trajectories 👍🏻

    Great video again Jay, came to the video late as I’m considering a change from my PXg gen4’s into the 245 or 530 as recent health issues have I think lost me some speed. I suspect the 245’s may win out but the ability to (more easily?) bend the Pings will I think be a factor. love the new analysis chart, helps with my understanding.

    Going into the video I assumed the 245 would end up less forgiving but more consistent. They both tested extremely well but kudos to Mizuno because the 245 was just a forgiving.
    Getting hard to tell myself a 2⁰ weak set of 245 isnt the play over an i230, 243, t150 type iron. The only thing I worry about is gaps with my speed but that can be adjusted.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, I'd get them weakened to 32 (2 weak) if it was me at my speed or even 33. There isn't any issues gapping wise with the 5, 7 and 9 that I have so any distance gapping issues seem to have been resolved, weakening them will just dial, back the distance 👍🏻 👍🏻

    One additional test would be damp conditions. My understanding is the i530 with the extra grooves perform better, maintaining the spin. Is this correct? Certainly something to think about for morning dew sweepers.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Brent, I've done similar tests in the past and haven't seen any statistical difference between the data sets. I think it's best evaluated like this...... If having a million grooves was giving a true performance gain, 1. other manufacturers would copy it without question and 2. Ping themselves still have and continue to release model without it 🤔🤔🤔👍🏻👍🏻

      Titleist are an absolute pain in the backside to get hold of. I have tried multiple times on different platforms to get hold of their products to test but let's say they aren't the best at replying... Which leaves the channel with no Titleist irons to review. Great review. I’m an old man but would still love to own a set of those Mizuno’s. One thing. Nobody in the UK pronounced that steel properly. It is NOT cra-moly. It is two word together. Chrome and Moly. Gun barrels are made of the same
    Steel. It has always been Chrome Moly, but you just say the two name together. You see, this is a name not a word. It is a name of a type of steel. Names are not the same as words.

    Would you weaken the lofts on the 245’s ? They are very strong .

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 месяца назад

      For me personally I would weaken them as much as I could if I was playing these. Problem is that the Mizunos will bend (retail custom) by 3 degrees in the amount of both direction so either 3 deg in Loft of Lie or a combo of both. As I'm in between 1 to 2 Upright, I would be limited to the amount I could weaken them off by. 👍
