- Quick thanks to xCellen for the end card, she made that herself and it looks freaking gorgeous! Also she makes better content than me so here's the link to her channel / collikun1
Also want to thank my friend who wishes to stay anonymous so we'll just call her "Blue Moon" If not for her this video, the Dodon Ray video, and the Frieza laugh video would not be possible, she truly is the best!
Well here you have it guys, the one attack that EVERYONE was asking for! I hope you enjoy it, I've had so many comments asking me when I'd make this video, and after all this time it's finally here, the most Iconic attack in all of Dragon Ball!!

GodTube's really gone downhill.
Gowasu getting jealous of Piccolo's godtube success
I did enjoy the poetic irony of Zamasu almost being defeated by a technique for containing evil beings when he considers himself to be the one who's pure and divine. Part of me still wishes that could have been the end for immortal Zamasu right there, because maybe the remainder of the Future Trunks arc wouldn't have gotten so complicated like it did after he fused with Goku Black.
And he would have been the only villain to not die in canon if he was truly imprisoned. I did like Merged Zamasu, although I am thinking that could have happened as well, and Zeno would not have been needed and Trunks' timeline could have been saved.
@@Yabuturtle maybe in Sparking Zero they can have that be an outcome!!
5:00 I like how Tien here shows just how intense it is to try get a hang of, let alone master the Mafuba, a technique so powerful yet so deadly to its own user.
Honestly this move is underrated
I love the old DB series. It´s about training your power and practice new techniques and not just how to get even blonder and scream louder. Don´t get me wrong I love the DBZ training arcs. Goku´s Spaceship workout is still a Gym motivator for me but learning new techniques kinda stopped after the Kaio Ken and Spirit Bomb.
I like that they brought back this technique in Super. I'd nearly forgotten about it. And it reminded me that there's always alternatives to killing in anime, such as trapping, or rather, "containment"? Lol
I just wish the techniques' track record had more wins
It's really cool, but later on in the series it kind of made no sense to be used by stronger fighters. Not only there are alternatives like spirit bomb or fusion, but more importantly, in the way it works it's really similar to what is called "magic" in DB or DBZ, and DB in general has been consistent in one message: sufficient strength beats tricks (magic). Sufficient strength beats magic or magic-like trick abilities, like for example Hit's time stop. Even if the wave was used successfully, then the opponent would probably free himself somehow, or would declare that he is beyond the power of that ability. Ok, granted mafuba was successfully used against much stronger enemies, but from the perspective of the narrative it's uncomfortably close in appearance to "magic".
@@werrkowalski2985 Let's not forget that it's also possibly very very cruel. Roshi's master made the technique because it was the only way to beat King Piccolo, but it's apparently horrifying. Think about it. Even the THOUGHT of having the Mafuba (I prefer the Japanese name as it sounds more badass) was enough to freeze a self proclaimed Demon King with abject terror. In fact it was WHY he tried to eliminate all those martial artist, to make sure NO ONE could use it on him again. Even when it was brought back in Super, Both Frost and Zamasu, the latter of which was completely immortal at the time, were left utterly horrified by the technique after being exposed to it. That thing is apparently the most scary shit to experience in the series...which is saying something.
@@angelangelis8362 honestly I kind of hoped the gave more info on the move to justify why it’s not used. Like “oh it leave a person wide open or it’s too cruel” still though it was nice to see old moves come back
@@curtailedbike4123 we get the "it's horribly draining", like the kikoho, but in both case training pushed the limit higher, so it doesn't justify how rare it is.
they could have try it more, at least against buu
@@kryptoskillet1131Freiza has no excuse. Cell would know the reversal version and Buu would split off a tiny piece and if you don't get all of him you get none of him.

James Marsters had an incredible scream in that scene.
People don't really understand how traumatizing the evil containment wave is. It's enough to give King Piccolo PTSD and have both Zamasu and Frost reeling despite escaping.
Edit: First ever 1k comment, I'm glad to see the continued discussion in the comments as well
I always talk about it to my brother. The screams are otherwordly. I always doubt its escapable if u get caught in it.
It's probably painful on some level. But also it's probably very traumatic to think you're all powerful only to be sealed away by someone much weaker than you
Vegeta: *Too egotistical and prideful to be traumatized by the Mafuba* FROOOOSSSSSSTTTTTTTT....
Essentially, once caught in it, you lose all physicality. You become like a ghost, unable to stop the process no matter how powerful you may be. To lose all control of yourself in such a way is indeed terrifying.
@@kevinphoenix2007 also hilarious to break tht annoying narcissistic mentality of particular the 2nd Zamasu & see him terrified. Despite what seems like hate, Zamasu as a whole is my fav villain, i really like how there were (technically speaking) 3 of him & tht made for a better depth in the arc

When you realised that Cell and Buu wouldn't have caused so much problems on Earth if someone just busted out the Rice Cooker and sealed them.
Buu will turn into a eternal pink jelly through the wave. I think this won't be work
Crazy that Goku didn't learn it until Super.
@@SonGokuBlack93 WOG is that a kaioshin variation of the mafuba was used on fat buu after an hit vaporized him to seal into that egg-like container used at the start of the saga.
it is likelly it would habe worked under similar circumstances
Cell most likely knew the reversal as he specifically had all of the z fighters techniques until vegeta showed up. Which is why we see him spam the devil drill beam and the multiform technique.
Buu would probably pull out some toon force to escape
Always loved this "attack". This should get more views.
Maybe some day, lol
I do like the continuity of the mafuba wave from the original series. It’s an attack that has never scaled, and was always that powerful, but now with the exception that if the user of the technique is strong enough, they don’t die.
Indeed, it has now its energy cost too, as you can only do up to certain amount before you lose consciousness or lose all your power (like trunks losing ssj due to the energy cost)
@@erikfigueroa6390It always had an energy cost what r u talking about
@@bigidot what we meant is that mafuba is a high cost technique. (Just that dragon ball never really put it like that). Thats it.
It always made me laugh how a rice cooker was dubbed "The Electronic Jar" in this dub. In Animal Crossing I made my basement into a mystic lab, and put a rice cooker down there. My friend saw it and when I explained it was an Electronic Jar he burst out laughing.
Even if you the move misses it still puts a drain on the target, gotta feel sorry for turtle
U got a point
The amount of uno reverses in that last one was insane.
Someone call an ambulance!
*BUT NOT FOR ME*
Roshi walked in to the tournament and was like "I have no problem using this self destructive technique on a regular basis"
I think the evil containment wave (Mafuba) only risks ending your life if you are trying to seal a foe who is dramatically more powerful than you.
The body only has so much energy and the mafuba likely took every last bit of that energy to actually work on Piccolo.
@@FinalLugiaGuardian true but that is also shown to be reversible via healing methods, sensu bean or heals restore energy so thus even if you're weak you could still use it repeatedly as long as you had your energy restored.
Or get significantly strong to where the body can take repeated uses (Roshi tournament of power)
Technically that also means every Dragon Ball and pre dragon ball era death from it was unnecessary if they had brought a person with healing techniques or sensu beans
Honestly, I wish this kind of technique would be given more chances to be used... if not perfected. One wonders what could have been if they had used the Evil Containment Wave on the likes of Cell, Majin Buu, Android 21 or whomever the next threat will be in the upcoming movie.
That's the thing though, would it work on a guy like Buu?
@@mikethompson1653 I feel like since he’s pure evil it would effect him like the spirit bomb, but idk he’s so cartoonishly powerful he’d escape somehow like when he literally yelled to leave another dimension.
Would not work on Cell since he knows how to reverse it.
it wouldn't work on buu, he can scream his way out. anyone stronger could do the same. cell remembers piccolo's techniques so he would remember how to reverse it too. it pretty much would only work on frieza
@@Vapor817 wouldn't work on omega shenron though? After all he lost against Goku and vegeta even after the fusion went off.
can we appreciate that Piccolo and Tien learned Evil Containment Wave by their own its impressive they learned it without Kami or Master Roshi helping them to do it properly
Well technically Piccolo had first hand experience as the victim and teacher
Kami also learned it on his own
One of the few good fanservice that cane out of Super was using this again
*one of the many good fan service
This move is effectively how they get rid of enemy's that are way to strong and they don't want to make someone stronger
I just thought about if they used it on Buu, you think it would work or not cuz of Buu's weird powers? I mean Bibidi and Babidi could trap Buu but that's cuz of their magic it's a really interesting question
@@mikethompson1653 Buu has shown the ability to immediately be able to copy someones techniques like the kame hame ha or instant transmission. He would probably pull a reversal like Piccolo Jr did vs Kami in Dragon Ball and seal whoever was trying to seal Buu
@@mikethompson1653 fat buu yes it would work but super and kid buu absolutely would not work on them. Super buu got out of the hyperbolic time chamber when piccolo destroyed the exit. Its a technique that only buu and gotenks can use.
I reckon the stronger the opponent is, the more they can struggle, making controlling and hitting the vessel more and more difficult until you have little chance of not missing. And it seems that it won't work more than a couple of times since the enemy can pull off a reversal if you see it coming and understand its principle. Buu would make it even harder since he can regenerate even from a tiny particle after the rest gets sealed away. And then there's dimension border shattering very strong characters can perform, so most likely very powerful foes will be able to escape or destroy the vessel from within with sheer energy.
