It's obvious. The students saw all of the flooding from Hurricane Helene, assumed this was a common, weekly occurence, and designed accordingly. If I needed shoes to walk through water and mud and slime, I would be willing to wear ANY of these shoes. Even HAPPY to do so. One time. 😲😵😁😜
Okay... it's going to take a while to grade these submissions for the Halloween Costume Project. So far though, I think there's been improvement compared to previous years. I see, however, that a number of you decided to follow Gleep Glorp's example of making costumes that require multiple people to wear them. Fair enough since I didn't specifically say that the assignment was to make a costume that was made for one human to wear. I won't dock points for that this time, but I will make it clear for future semesters. Yes, Halloween is a time where people wear different stuff compared to normal, but not everyone is comfortable with having to be physically close to another person to make a costume work. Prasochry, I think you did a great job with the fairy costume you designed, even despite the lack of fairy wings. It looks feasible for a human to wear. I'm no expert on the pricing, but roughly $200 on Etsy is honestly far more reasonable than some of the other submissions I've seen for this class. I think you're ready for one of the next big steps in Designing for Humans: Where are we going in this? Don't get me wrong: the big focus on the project this year was feasibility for a human to wear, and I think you got that. I'm just mentioning that the next step to becoming fully blended in is to know the context in which the designs are meant to be used for and if they can work in that context. Miss Maggie has seen some stuff made by human designers that have gotten her asking where are we going in them. There's nothing wrong with making stuff meant for adult fun times, but I think it's worthwhile to be able to design for different contexts just in case. You're doing great, Prasochry! I actually like the first one. It reminds me of the Spice Girl era. I had 4 or 5 pairs of platform shoes, including 3 distinct pairs of platform tennis shoes. ❤❤❤
