I began collecting the brightest day paperbacks and have volumes 1 & 2 but have yet to get volume 3, the blackest night editions, or rise of the lanterns . The artwork and story are phenomenal. Wonderful review, thank you for showing your amazing collection 😁💖✨🦇.
Blackest Night is easily my favourite DC and comic book event of all time. It has some of the most amazing artwork and storytelling I’ve ever seen and the build up to it was awesome and the execution was even better. The rings choosing Barry, Diana, Scarecrow, Mera, Atom and Luthor power rings was so cool, especially Avarice for Luthor and Fear for Scarecrow, that’s just genius.
And my favourite moment is when Barry says “ *Life* doesn’t give *us* purpose, Black Hand. *We* give *life* purpose” I cried reading that because my Uncle recently passed before I finished this and that quote couldn’t be more true

you're right about the idea of creating an Omnibus for GLC by Johns/Gibbons/Gleason and Tomasi. that entire run from Recharge to the New 52 was brilliant, especially as you have mentioned during the Sinestro War.
all the creators from Rebirth to Blackest Night were unbeatable in my eyes. even just reading GLC: Sins of the Star Sapphire, you could tell Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi were working together to portray the perfect storyline through both GL and GLC. I love the way Tomasi made GLC into a buddy-cop/Lethal Weapon feel when playing with Guy and Kyle.

Omar, the Omnibros are having a discussion about Blackest Night right now(Oct 26, 2022). I have seen many complaints that the Blackest Night Omnibus is too big. However, I asked Lu and Jess what could be cut from it and they couldn’t think of anything. Is there anything you would cut out? I think most people(not me!)would have preferred it to be split in two, but I think event Omnis should be all in one. Thanks!
i picked it up right when it became available to me. the box looked like it was dropkicked down a flight of stairs but thanks to the wonderful packaging, the book was undamaged

Amazing book, waiting for mine to come and to tell you honestly i like that 10th Anniversary on it but I also understand why many will hate it.
I've never liked them to put years on anything. Marvel did the same with Marvels 10th anniversary. But its not a deal breaker. :)
Im picking this up. I was happy how DC put out the Superman Exile Omnibus and the two Death of Supeman Omnibus’s.

I had no idea there was that much material covering Blackest Night. I bought the mini-series and the Green Lantern comics covering it, but not any of the mini-series when it came out. Also bought a couple of the series they brought back for a single issue which was cool. Might have to pick this up as I've never read those ancillary mini-series and it was a damn good event (though not as good as Sinestro Corps War but better than most). Doug Mahnke is a great artist. Love all the stuff he's done with Thomasi and Geoff Johns over the years.
It was a huge event and even the ongoing books had the "red skies" crossover event happening.
So if I buy the Green Lantern omnibus vol 3, I should still buy Blackest night omnibus?

I decided to pass on this one. More so the double-dipping. I'm happy just getting the core mini-series within Vol 2 of the regular Geoff Johns Omni. Since I haven't read those three Omnis yet I felt it would take a month of Sundays to ever get to reading this one with all the tie-ins, of which there are a huge number of issues. It became how relevant those tie-ins would be missed not reading them. I heard the tie-ins for this event are much more relevant than other Omni tie-ins from Marvel/DC so I'm a little bit conflicted.
That's a great idea. See if you even like the event. I absolutely think the tie ins are more relevant than most crossovers.
I really wish DC would figure out how to bind books like Marvel. Marvel Omnis are so nice. I actually often skip DC stuff since I’ve been disappointed by the bindings too many times. Thankfully Marvel puts out enough stuff to put me in the poor house anyway. :)

Read The GL Omnis... when you get to issue 43 on volume 2.. jump into this omnibus. Seriously. IT's an amazing event.

Hey Uncanny Omar!!!! I have another one of my rookie questions (which you probably don't remember). I just got this omni. It's my first omni actually. I stretched exactly like you taught me 3 times, but the ribbon just tore off and started lifting up waaay more before I even started reading it. Is this OK? I bought it from Amazon, so I can easily replace it, but is it a big deal?
That is okay, Mine does the same. It's just a huge book with so many flaws. They all do that. Well, the ones read do.

I have that problem with Batman Robin Gleason Omnibus. Great, because it has ALL OF THE RUN! But bad because its all virgin covers and hard to tell what issue I'm on when I have to keep bookmarking and side-stepping every time there's a crossover w/ other Bat-family titles.
Yeah I wish the issue numbers were in the back.
Feels like collecting Johns GL in Omnis will be tough: this negates most of Omni 2, and I have half of Omni 3 in new 52 hardcovers. Goddamn, what to do...? :/

DC is really tempting me to buy all the Crisis omnis (including the COIE companions) Zero Hour omni, 52 omni, Geoff John's Green Lantern Omnis (including Blackest Night and Brightest Day omnis) and the Grant Morrison Batman omnis. Then I just plung myself into that Odysseyian epic for the next year and a half.

I really want to get this book but I have already bought the entire series in TPB. So I think I’ll pass. Especially since I do have the Green Lantern omnibus trilogy by Geoff Johns. The other question is Brightest Day. I’d love to have that omni too. But again I do have the series in TPB. What to do. Save some bucks? But the art is so magnificent in this omnibus format. It is definitely worth it to pick up these books to be able to display that art in all its glory. I’m holding off for now but I’ll keep you posted if I change my mind.

You won't get lost at all. This story is pretty self contained. However you will get so much more if you read John's GL. As far as economical, Its cheaper to get the trades of GL, GLC and Blackest Night.

Great review "O", so if u want to have the whole Geoff Johns Green lantern Omni run - its best to get both ? (side note this is what got me bac into dc comics leading to Flashpoint - after which I got turned off = New 52 😡) Read this story 3x's love it & I must hav completed version.

Thanks for the review looking forward to reading it sadly my copy keeps being delayed. I hope the Brightest Day also gets this treatment not just the 24 issues bundled into a new 10 year anniversary omnibus.

I am not yet entirely familiar with the Brightest Day story since I am a new reader. However Brightest Day involves over a hundred single issues so if you want to try and follow it there is a lot more you need than just those 24 issues of the Brightest Day. So maybe make an omnibus with the most important other issues in it as well or go wild and release two omnibusses to cover the entire story. At least give new readers who loves hard copy reading a book that does the entire event justice if you read it that book.
ThF H what they may do is rerelease the Brightest Day Omnibus and put 10 years on it.
Hey Omar I'm thinking about getting the three GL omnibi and the Blackest Night omnibus. Is Brightest Day necessary to understand the Blackest Night omnibus ? There's a box set coming out that includes all of Blackest Night and Brightest Day, but it sounds like the omnibus is a better reading experience because of the order of the issues that are collected.
It really isn't necessary at all. I enjoy the omnibus more as the reading order on these are great. I'm sure one day Brightest Day will be restocked.
This looks like it isn’t a sewn binding. That gutter loss looks more like a glue binding. Were you able to tell? Also curious if this is a good book in addition to the Johns omnibus volume 2 or if you would see it more as a double dip?
It's a mix of both.
I haven't picked it up because I don't tend to like most of the peripheral material around big events, most of it is filler and not necessary... of course, I haven't read these so they could tie in perfectly and actually feel essential, but I doubt it. I'm still considering purchasing the book because Geoff Johns's run on Green Lantern is one of my favorite comics ever and I have all 3 omnis.
Start with the first omni and see if its even for you..
For a new reader should I buy the GL omnibus trilogy and the blackest night omnibus or would I be fine with just the GL trilogy
Stick with the trilogy and if you really liked what you read in BL get this omnibus.

Going to pick this up because for me this was where I started picking up comics. Read the first issues of Green Lantern Blackest Night, and Blackest night 1 at the time I was reading manga wasn't really in to comics coworker brought them and I was hooked I started reading. From DC, Marvel, Image and Dark Horse....So for me My love of comics happen 10 years ago at a rough point in my life.
That is amazing. It's funny how fast that time went by. I remember when I saw the preview to Blackest Night in 2007 at the end of Sinestro Corp War... It felt like an eternity waiting until 2009.
@@NearMintCondition As I was waiting for the next part of blackest night I was picking up everything Green Lantern I could find. Sinestro Corp War was hands down the best. Part with Sinestro naked using his own fear to power his ring was powerful...Also big fan of Arkillo along with the other core corps member fro Sinestro.
I just love how that story ended. Sinestro Corp to me was as good as GL ever got.

Im interested in the the three omnis and blackest night 10 anniversary omni. Do I have to buy all four omnis to have a good read or could I buy some of them to save som money and still keep the storyline intact?
You can buy the three Green Lantern Omnibus and still have a phenomenal experience.

I really like the way an Omnibus collects a lot of associated comic books, it gives me a chance to collect a lot of good comics rapidly. I kickstarted my Omnibus collection a week ago and ordered 18 great ones and am about to do a last order of about 10 Omnis and needed some advice. I Will order most of the Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge collection too, hihi. Love Uncle Scrooge a lot. By the way you are truly a mastermind and your amazing reviews are invaluable. I can tell that you really love comics and the wonderful world of fantasy and adventure it offers. We all need some comics in our lives.

If you liked GL by Johns absolutely its worth it. as far as Double dipping. These issues are found in both omnis Blackest Night #0-8, Green Lantern Corps #39-47, Untold Tales of Blackest Night #1-2 and Blackest Night Tales of the Corps #1-2.

Hey man. I'm not sure if you would still see this. I've never read Blackest night before. So I'm wondering if I should buy the 6 Hardcovers or just the omnibus.
But just to confirm, the omnibus basically consist of the 6 Hardcovers? I wouldn't miss anything if I buy the 6 Hardcovers instead of the omnibus? It's just seems easier to read when it's not as thick as the omnibus. 😂
