I've been using my Brother LS14 sewing machine for two years and counting, in this video I share pros and cons of the machine for anyone looking to get the same model
I got mine coz of you and when I got it first the needle and the hole are not in line or placed properly so the needle always broke or it bent my needle each time I want to use it so each time I put a new needle i have to bend it . But other than that is very good is a very good strong one
Hi Kim, First I wanna thank you for doing all these tutorials, they’ve helped me a lot... Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of research on the best type of fashion design (short course) with flexible timing, to take and I’m wondering if you’d be able to recommend some for me? Ps, I live in the UK as well. I hope you reply soon, thank you :)
Please ma! Do you have and idea of which needle I can buy for my Brother LS14s please! I’m having issues with needle and I’ve exhausted the one that came with it.. Bukola, Nigeria
Hi Kim, thanks for the review. I am relieved to see this is a durable machine that you can make beautiful clothes with. I have a similar Brother machine (LX3850) to learn sewing garments. It sews well and can handle making cloth menstrual pads with some work (5 layers max, two of which have to be presewn) so my experience with thick fabrics on it is similar to yours. It sews thin to medium fabrics very well though so other than fabric thickness, there are no real limitations, especially if you get the walking foot. Cheers!
at approx 8:00 you show the front of the machine which has a crinkly look to it. I had that also on my machine after using it one year only to find out, that it is only a foil which came to prevent the pattern from scratches, so you can easily take this of and it will look all shiny and new (: (its like the foils you have on a brand new piece of tech, and you take them of the first time you use it)
Hi Kim what are the stitch lengths for each stitch number please? can you do a video on the when you use stitiches and their length for what projects - thanks very good info . x
I'm just starting sewing and bought this wee machine as the reviews were great. And I love it! It cost me £80 and I think that's a no bad price for a sewing machine with metal insides and a pretty good range of stitches. I haven't had the problem with the large spools yet but I'm really new to this. I do recommend this wee machine to anyone who has a tight budget or wants to try before buying a more expensive one. 😀
I've been looking for a good beginner sewing machine and i think I got this model. I think it goes by a different model number in every country. I got an identical model, the JX1714 here in Canada which appears to be the LX3817 in the US. Great review! Thanks!
Thank you for the review. It’s really helpful. I did have a question. May sound like a silly question (I’m new to sewing), can the machine also use metal bobbins, or do you have to use plastic bobbins?
I would like to say a very big thank you to you. Since I subscribed to your channel, I've been able to sew different styles for myself. You just amazing and a good teacher. Please which overlock machine will you recommend to me? Just a portable one I can use at home. Thank you 😘🙏
Thank you x may I ask, can you lower the dogs? I would like to have a try of free motion embroidery but dont want to spend big time on a machine if i find I dont enjoy it!
Honestly thank you so much!!! After your advice agessssssss ago and book recommendations, I brought this machine and it has helped with the start up of my business. The only downer to this machine is that it does not have the hemming stitching to prevent the fabric from fraying, but I managed to improvise and use the alternative stitch
Really. That is so good to hear. I got myself an overlocker quickly because I wanted a professional finish for my seams but using the zig zag/alternative stitches are a good option
The singer 44s heavy duty is quite similar to yours and here in the states it's about 90 bucks. U didn't have issues sewing heavy fabrics. I also have a singer quantum stylist 9960 shich us a but more 350 bucks. But you get a bunch of accessories and have over 300 stitches. I'm a quilter so it is great for that. And if your looking for a top of the line machine then go fore the janome mc6700 a really good 👍🏽 one. I paid close to 2000 bucks but it is well worth it with lots of accessories and stitches plus an extension table.
Hi Kim, I just need your advice on acquiring equipment for my fashion business. I want to know which is preferable, the heavy duty machines (EMEL Industrial Sewing Machines) or portable machines like these ones.
Yes, I am requesting a video on how to make the dress/top you are wearing! It is beautiful and I love how you were able to have the pleating bend where necessary and how they are placed at various angles. At least that is what they look like to me.I have an advanced Singer sewing machine that I have had for 15 years and I love it. No problems so far. #KimDaveRequest
I didn't make the dress I'm wearing in this video. See it here www.reiss.com/p/silk-blend-burnout-mini-dress-womens-phillippa-in-black/?category_id=1121&gaEeList=W%20-%20Dresses It's incredible to have a machine that is 15 years old, that's half of my life time!
Hello KD.... I have just purchased this machine and know I will need more bobbins...From my research I have found this fact...(cut and paste..... 'brother sewing machines do not all take the same bobbin. There are at least 2 varieties and they are not interchangeable. Unfortunately, they look the same so telling the difference may not be that easy.' ) All sellers just seem to just have the name Brother when describing fit....What bobbins would be the absolute correct ones to purchase.?.. I look forward to hearing what you advise... Thank you.
Amazing video. The con about thicker fabrics is likely to be an issue for me. Are there any other machines you would recommend that has the same benefits but can take thicker fabrics
They brought the price back down to £80 on Amazon luckily, they only had one stock in one store from Argos (in eastbourne!) when I last checked the other day - happy I didn't have to pay an extra £9
I bought a Janome mechanical machine when my Brother one broke down. It would have cost more to fix the Brother, than it cost to buy a new Brother machine. Anyway, I decided based on expert advice to buy a machine with metal insides, instead of the largely plastic machines produced by Singer and Brother these days. So far so good! I really liked the Brother one I had, it had so many great features for such a small price. But, it frustrated me towards the end, and I had to just go for a better quality one that won't crap out on me, hopefully for at least 10 years. #fingerscrossed
I also later found a vintage* portable Kenmore machine at a thrift store. It is definitely metal based on how heavy it is! And, it still works pretty well! *I don't mean true vintage, it's probably from the 1970s or 1980s, but it's OLD!
Please, I bought this same machine and it's good but I don't know the size of the needle to buy after using all the ones that come with the machine. Please, which size of needles can I get.
I want to get this machine but I’ve seen two different names and I want to confirm if it’s the same. One is Ls14 manual stitch sewing machine and Ls14 metal chassis sewing machine. Please are they the same and which one did you buy? Thanks.
Hello! I have a similar one with also 14 built-in stitches but it doesn't have a stitch length or width dial? I cannot tell the straight stitch options apart and I don't know how to use them
I just got this machine last year and finally got around to setting it up. This morning it's not working. It makes noise when I press the footer but it won't stitch Does anyone know what the problem could be. It's getting frustrating

I haven't tried it yet but I hope when I fix the pedal,it will be okay
Am currently using x14 brother machine. Its also quite durable, except for the way its cut off thread while sewing. Sometimes it makes me wanna giveup on sewing because of the way it cuts thread. Any idea on what to do to avoid this? Thank you
Is the cutting off thread a normal function or a fault? Sounds like the tension is tight. Trying reducing the tension(the higher numbers) and see if that works. Hopefully it's an issue that can be resolved by taking it to be serviced.
Your machine doesn't have the stretch stitches which is a big con if you make your clothes. I had a brother JK25000NT ( the big sister of your sewing machine) for one year, it did a good job but was not strong enough to make jeans so I invested in a Rolls Royce, the Janome Memory Craft 67000P now I'm in a new sewing level and a real professional finish, it's worth the investment!
I have this machine and iv has so much problems with and I don’t know what to do:( i sew with stretchy fabrics and it ALWAYS jumps stitches barely ever actually sews properly and whenever I sew with zig zag stich it’s turn out really small instead of what it should acc look like (4). Looking forward to this..I bought this machine beginning of Lockdown and used your initial unpacking as my get started tutorial...

Just received my machine today! You explained so clearly that I feel very confident. Just one query - have you ever sewn paper with yours?
Thank you for the video, very informative, do i need to buy a serger machine/overlocker for now.
Thanks. That was extremely helpful. I have had a hard time deciding which product would suit me best. I think I just found it.😍

Hi I’ve ordered this machine and I’m so excited to get it. Can I ask though can you use metal bobbins as I’ve got lots? Thank you Maria
It’s a great sewing machine 👌🏾 mine is the LS14s 😍 does the invisible footer work for normal zip or it’s only the invisible zips?
Thanks Kimie ♥️
Have the same as yours Lk14s. Just wondering whats the difference

You can buy this machine at Argos for £80. Not sure why Amazon has hiked up the price so much (probably just because it can).

I have just purchased the Brother LS14 sewing machine. I am having trouble getting the bobbin to fit onto the winder. Why is this?
Is there a machine that sews and overlock at same time
Can I use leather with this machine?
The tension on my brother LS14 keeps breaking up threads. Please advise further.
Hi Sarah. Have you tried adjusting the tension knob on the front of the machine?
How to stop the thread from constantly coming out the needle
