Yeah Matt, remember those days very well 😁👍used to visit the original Forbidden Planet and you had to scoure those ads and get those important connections to pick up those elusive nasties Matt, yeah it was a great time in a way...who would have thought you can walk into HMV and pick up a slew of Nasties off the shelves and many are uncut 😲😁👍👍

Great video, always such an interesting subject. Possession is a very good movie, probably the classiest and most highly regarded of the nasties. Brilliant direction and outstanding performances, particularly by Adjani. It really didnt deserve to be spoken about in the same breath as Love Camp 7 or the Beast in Heat. I remember Night Train Murders well, the one I saw back in the early 80s had the title '(Dont ride on) late night trains'. it is far more mean spirited that many of the other films on any of the lists.
Interesting story, we rented movies from friend of my dads who had a mobile van that used to come and park outside our house once a week, was like this for a year or so. Then the fella stopped using the van and would just turn up with 4 or 5 huge suitcases full of tapes for us to look through and rent. Then one time he dropped the suitcases off at our house and just left them all with my dad. I never found out why or where he went but he disappeared for around 3-4 months before returning to collect the suitcases. My parents forbode 11/12 year old me from watching them but I found them and got through everything that looked remotely horror, Dont ride on Late Night Trains being one of them.

I know Mary Whitehouse kept trying to get The Evil Dead prosecuted, however because the version released on video was the slightly cut cinema version (the post cert VHS from 1990 was very heavily cut, it's uncut now), it's a comedy, the jury actually saw it and even Sam Raimi flew to London to defend it, the case kept getting thrown out (Mary Whitehouse hadn't seen it like everything else she complained about). That didn't stop the tabloids calling it "the number one nasty" even though it was only on Section 2.
Actually the censors nearly passed The Evil Dead uncut for cinema because most of the members of the board were pissing themselves laughing (including James Ferman I think), however one member of the board felt uncomfortable during the film so they decided to pass it with some cuts (better safe than sorry). Something similar happened about 10 years later with Peter Jackson's Braindead, the board nearly gave it an uncut 15 certificate because it was so over the top and comical, and then they remembered the video nasties scare and they felt the gore was a bit too much for a 15 so they gave it an uncut 18.
The Man from Deep River might have used a mix of both real animal cruelty and faked animal cruelty hence why some of it was cut and other bits are untouched, I think, I don't know.

Hey mate, sorry bout the length of time getting back to you, had to get on the laptop to be able to see your full comment :-) Yeah good old MW had a right bee in her bonnet about The Evil Dead and I'm sure I watched an interview where she was asked if she had ever seen these movies and she replied I won't watch them as they are disgusting!! So that's a great response isn't it!! haha!! The Evil Dead did become a bit of a poster boy for the Nasties didn't it! If someone doesn't get it that The Evil Dead was a comedy then they can "spoil" it for others was such a lame thing to happen all the time :-(
I agree that movies suffered a lot in the wake of the Nasties and it seemed like loads of movies were getting trimmed for a "trigger element" such as head-butts & Nunchucks ..... (good song title) haha.
The scene that got me was the monkey scene that looked pretty realistic in the movie and hopefully it was fake, there was a Goat that got it's throat cut which was real :-o that might have been for food so maybe that's why it was kept in!
Cheers for the great info mate!!! :-)

I could be mistaken but i think Night Train Murders, aka, Late Night Trains was was called/ retitled Terror Train, which i remember, and after watching this i recall vivid scenes which rang a bell, either because they were similsr or because after almost forty years i've seen other films like it - and i have grown confused. I got a copy later from a Greek subtitled Vhs in the early 2000s withbthe same title. The video distributor could have been Go Video or Iver Film Services, but again, not 100% sure.

Hi P.M.S, I know there is a movie from 1980 called Terror Train, its released by 88 films and its kind of a slasher, I haven't seen that one, but I own it 👍 there is every possibility that Night Train Murders could have that title, how many times did an old exploitation movie suffer a name change to get it noticed 🤔😁 they could have called it "Last carriage on the left" 😉😄 cheers for the great comment 🤩🤩👍👍

I can never forget the thrill of getting my first ever VHS video recorder in January 1986, leading to the sheer movie Heaven of browsing through all those lurid, eye-catching VHS cases on the shelves of my local video store. There were many video rental stores in my area, and I even joined them all, simply to gain access to the maximum amount of movies that were available (many of the stores stocked titles that other stores didn't). I think The Evil Dead was the first real video nasty I managed to get my hands on, once the censorship was lifted.

Hi John it's Trevor. I thought I'd comment from my channel. Thanks for subscribing mate.
I will definitely check out those 2 channels you recommend. I guess they will help us all learn about the video nasties.
I used to have Night Train Murders knowing it was a Video Nasty. I watched it once and had to get rid of it. Couldn't handle it.
Somehow I'm okay with Last House On The Left and I Spit On Your Grave but Night Train Murders was too much. Good film though.
What list is Prowler on or should I wait for your next episode?
Also I'd like to contribute. I took part in the 88Films Indigogo fundraiser the restoration of Absurd, Massacre In Dinosaur Valley, Ænigma and Beyond The Darkness and of course the remastered Anthrophogous Beast which wasn't part of the original fundraiser.
Just wondered if I could do a short video on the fundraiser and how Anthrophogous Beast the acclaimed Video Nasty ended part of it.
If you took part and already know then by all means mention it yourself.
My name is on a second set of credits that run after the main credits on all 4 films. I might be on Anthrophogous Beast too.

Hi John. I rented all the video nasties when i was 12 years old with my farther but my dads fishing buddy had Marton Video and there were endless mobile videos also going around. I actually own 25 of the DPP 39 and a lot of the Section 3 titles. When i was at College i did media studies and sat a exam on the subject.
The Evil Dead (1981) released by Palace pictures in 1983 they put the film out together on VHS and cinema exhibition not heard of during the 1980s. Sadly due to it having been classified by the BBFC it suffered cuts "49 seconds" adding up to "14 cuts" in total for its Theatrical release (X) certificate and Video Rental
Eventually during the 1990s it was severely cut further on video due to the earlier passing of the "Video recordings act 1984. Suffering cuts 1 minute 55 seconds.
Visiting Hours" (1981) on its precert video release was the same version used for its (1982) Theatrical exhibition: Certificate (X) Suffering cuts 1 minute 10 seconds.
Most of this information used to be available on the BBFC website but since its reboot most cuts for older releases on video have been removed. So much for transparency?

Almost like someone was having a laugh when then took out that much footage, almost wish they had put it on as an extra on a disc just to remember how bad it was 😱😱🤣🤣 I was thinking about going to do more research on what was cut but you're right the BBFC website isn't as easy to navigate to find what you want 😡 is the site Melon Farmers still around? I'm sure they used to do similar things on cuts? 🤔 cheers again Darren 🤩🤩👍👍

Hi John. I have to admit I usually check out your videos to see what is being released/ special editions etc. But this has been a very interesting topic. Thanks again for taking the time to show/ talk about these films.
I am a big fan of 80's rock and metal music. Do you remember the PMRC? Al Gores wife and her friends ( who have far too much free time on their hands) tried to censor rock music. They came up with the Filthy Fifteen songs about sex etc. But by putting warning stickers on these albums, in many cases they actually helped album sales. People are more curious when something becomes banned

I'm a big fan of W.A.S.P and the Dead Kennedys and they were always getting grief from them!! Yeah if I saw that sticker on I was straight on the album! You seem to be in my sort of age bracket and seem to go for blu ray 4k editions which is up to you buddy but, don't you think some of the DPP 39's look better in their original grainy style? We didn't have hi def TVs back then

    • @MondoChelloveckMovies
      @MondoChelloveckMovies  2 года назад

Hi Jamie thanks for this great message 🤩🤩👍👍I have always been interested in a good picture quality and I like to sew movies in the best way 👍 but there's 2 school of thoughts here I think 🤔 I'm in both camps if I'm honest, if a movie is remastered from the original negatives and it looks amazing (by using no artificial improvements) then I consider that version to be the one I'm after, but on the other hand the recent 88 films AGFA movies can look horrendous quality, but I really like them... so hopefully that kind of answers that question Jamie 😊😊 I think that sometimes there is a misconception that VHS quality was the way they should always look but it was only that vhs format existed and we were accustomed to that 🤔 Hope that makes sense Jamie 🤩🤩👍👍

Another fantastic video, John! Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, what is it about Cannibal Terror!? Contamination is great. I’ve pre-ordered the Don’t Go In The House blu ray as well with the old cover. Never understood either why The Funhouse got banned, it was a mainstream slasher from a big studio. If I remember right, you see a cat killing a lizard in Inferno. Nunsploitation movies aren’t for me. I loved Possession for its art house qualities, no idea what it was doing on the list. Toolbox Murders is awesome. I immediately started laughing in Zombie Creeping Flesh when I saw they were wearing the same overalls as in Dawn Of The Dead! The mondo aspects in that were kind of strange. I never understood how the Italians didn’t run into more copyright issues! I know what you mean about some of these films being hard to find. Out of the 72, there’s 13 I still need to get but they’re providing very hard to find - Frozen Scream, I Miss You Hugs and Kisses and Revenge of the Bogeyman are proving to be particularly difficult.

The nephew committing an act of murder makes absolutely no sense. Didn't like that twist. Killer Nun was boring as hell and so was Human Experiments. I'm gonna have to differ with you on Zombie Creeping Flesh, which I thought was quite nasty. It was bad but not in a so-bad-it's-good way. The Slayer was great even though it's quite slow. One that caught my interest is I Miss You, Hugs & Kisses. It looks interest.
What did you think of Frozen Scream and Pranks?

I miss you hugs and kisses is a decent movie mate 🤔😊 I thought with it being a "courtroom drama" it wouldn't work but I thought it was a good watch 😁 I agree with Killer Nun it's not great at all 😵‍💫 always been a fan of ZCF I think the way they rip off so much in the film makes me laugh every time 🤣🤣👌👌 I enjoyed The Slayer, just wish the creature had been in more than 2 minutes 🥴🥴🤣 I haven't seen Pranks or Frozen Scream but am eager to watch them mate 😁😁👍👍

@@MondoChelloveckMovies I doubt you'd be able to find a better version of Frozen Scream than the one I sent you on RUclips. All the versions I saw have lowsy sound and picture quality

I've not seen many of these (or those in your part 1 video)... but I have to say I'm surprised Contamination was ever on any list! haha. Also surprised to find someone who finds it great fun. I found it pretty drawn out and boring myself.... not quite "so bad it's good" for me.

Most of them are an "experience" for sure mate 🥴🥴🤣 it shows you how ridiculous the censors were to include Contamination on the list!! Haha just love how insane the whole thing is!!! Remember being blown away by the guts.... well... being blown away 😱😱🤣🤣 cheers mate 🤩🤩👍👍
