I like Speed Racer. It's not the greatest movie ever made, duh, but it doesn't deserve the hate. Its fun, it's weird, and the fact it acts like it's more serious than it knows it really is makes it silly in a good way
Got to John Carter, listened to comments, turned video off. John Carter's failure to get sequels has nothing to do with the quality of the movie as anyone who has watched generally enjoyed it. But Disney could not be bothered to push it, so few watched. Ah well, blame Disney again.
Just cause people e joed it doesn't mean it was a good movie too huge different topics. Stop acting like that movie was anything but a disappoint and all over the place trying to be top many things at once. The reason why the A Tean flipped was because it opened the same weekend that the 2010 world cup began. If it held back for another weekend it would have been a success. You also had too many characters for the children viewers to follow. So if it held back a weekend and cut down on the characters it would have been a great success

Van Helsing knew exactly what it was. Absolutely dumb fun as Richard Roxburgh's portrayal of Dracula clearly indicated. The character designs, gothic vibe and host of various iconic universal monsters was just a wonderfully potent mix that kept me entertained. Also, wolverine becoming a werewolf? Who else could have done it better? Side note: The "whitewashing" criticisms of Prince of Persia? Where was that when they blackwashed The Little Mermaid recently?
Come on now.....they have been "white washing" the shit out of films way before Disney started getting political. Ghost in a Shell, Gods of Egypt....Prince of Persia....and so many more.
Say what you want about Justin Chatwin’s portrayal of Goku, but at least the guy took the liberty to read the entire manga and watched the entire anime…… the director and producers are to blame. Ohhh, and he also even apologized to Toriyama, after the latter passed away earlier this year.
i think Van Helsing, lone ranger, A-Team, and John Carter are actually not bad movies, too bad they didn't continue. i think game adaptions are not respected. assassin's creed is a good example. they should give those books another chance, and power rangers should also be given another chance. Avatar was made to be an animation show, somethings are just not made for the big cinema.
17:37 The live action of Last Airbender was terrible it’s like Night didn’t research the original series, like why do fire benders need fire to bend it if they can generate fire on their own 🤨🤨
John Carter I wished they did a sequel it was so good, the golden compass, prince of Persia, and the Lone Ranger. As a bonus I’ll put Eragon. All definitely deserved sequels
As for Speed Racer it was more than just the movie that really sold it for me. The production team did one hell of a job creating all the different cars and motifs and paired them well together. I remember watching a DVD extra involving the car designs and I was instantly wanting to watch the movie again.
*Power Ranger 2017* will definitely works now cuz one of reason it fails is it's lack of action, the creators focus on character development rather than unnecessary fight scene. i actually enjoyed it, and it's better than THE FLASH, SHE-HULK, THE MARVELS, MADAME WEB, THOR LOVE AND THUNDER(Debatable)etc. sorry for my bad english it's my 3rd language
One of these is much more easily explained. *_The Golden Compass_* was a lame attempt at adapting a trilogy that was deliberately written as "an atheist's _Narnia_ or _Lord of The Rings_ . A series of novels are much easier to get as bestseller status than to make a movie a hit.. especially when you have to butcher it so bad all of the ideology is lost in the translation.. or rendered as childish as it always was.
One thing I HATE Worse than "To be Continued" is a series I LIKE that just gives up & is canceled without at least bring it to a End Like Conclusion. Really liked Firefly but at least it kind of Concluded with Serenity.
how could you forget Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets!! I was so hoping that would be a good film to start a series/franchise and it flopped so hard 🥲
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets had so much potential and looked promising for a franchise. It’s tough when a film you’re excited about doesn’t live up to expectations. What did you think was missing from it?
Both "Eragon" and "John Carter" were FAR better than their box-office results. "John Carter" actually was the victim of being late to the gate. So many "Man on Mars" films had been made in the 1950-2000 period that even though Edgar Rice Burroughs was actually a leader of his genre, the movie was "ho-hum" to a jaded public. I actually liked "Green Lantern" as a DECENT if not great movie. The "CGI overkill" is perhaps a REALLY bad criticism because the power of the ring was automatically going to involve "special effects based on green." Anyone who read ANY of the GL comics would know that and would have expected it. Got to agree with the chops against the reboot of the "Fantastic Four."
Van Helsing was very successful in India, even though it got a limited release & wasn't marketed well. I was lucky to watch the movie in the theatre & was mesmerized by the action sequences. I always thought that a sequel will come sooner or later......😢😢
Before I even watch the video. 2017 Power Rangers was a good and underrated movie that failed because people were in the whole “we want a cinematic universe” honeymoon phase so it attempted to leave things open for a sequel instead of starting self contained. I would love for them to do something with that franchise
And yet, Van Helsing wasn't a failure, they just didn't follow through because it didn't make enough in the US, despite the film going well into profit (over $300m box office, from $120m production, plus DVD sales etc. later) from showings everywhere else. No.1 In the UK for example.
I remember I was at composer Michael Giacchino's 50th birthday concert, and John Carter was one of the scores being performed. Andrew Stanton hilariously came on stage to introduce it and completely took it in his stride, telling us we're about to listen to a score that nobody's heard, from a film that nobody saw. He then took out a CD from his jacket pocket and offered it to anyone who saw the film and one person at the front cheered. He then gave that woman the CD and everyone else cheered. It was a glorious moment.
I enjoyed Prince of Persia and John Carter. The problem with John Carter was the marketing team not the film. The trailers for that movie kept changing how they described the move.
You know that WM doesn't give a damn about accuracy. They just give a copy to a voice actor who most likely doesn't know what they're supposed to be talking about.
As a Native American, and a Comanche, i can confidently say "no one had a problem with Johnny Depp playing Tonto over here", that was others from over there
I saw The Green Lantern at Disneyland Theater with my mom and uncle. Didn’t like it that much but I laughed my butt off in DeadPool when Ryan Reynolds made fun of it
The biggest crime of A Series of Unfortunate Events movie was that fact that they changed it and personally I preferred Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf
Power Rangers should have gotten a sequel. If we got that 2nd movie it would have retroactivity made the first one better. ( also, the movie would’ve been 10% better if they would’ve replaced Krispy Kreme with Ernie’s juice bar, I will die on this hill )
I honestly and tremendously enjoyed Eragon, Van Helsing, The Golden Compass & Lemony Snickets & TILL THIS DAY I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY NEVER GOT A SEQUEL especially ERAGON & VAN HELSING. I need to know who these critics are 😑😑😩 Don’t get me started on JOHN CARTER & THE JUMPER🤬😡🤬😭
I thought you needed at least 2 movies to call it a "franchise", none of these have more than one 😁😁😁😁 it should be "Top 20 FAILED POSSIBLE Movie Franchises" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even though they're not amazing movies by any stretch of the imagination, I definitely enjoyed Mortal Engines, Van Helsing and Sands of Time and LOVED Speed Racer and even Warcraft despite the somewhat unmemorable events of the movie.
I think the 1991 movie "The Rocketeer" should've been on this list. I was told they were planning on making two more Rocketeer movies, but since the first movie didn't do so well, they scrapped plans to make the other two movies.
You completely skimped on Vampires Assistant. It was a very beloved book series and I started it in High School, finally finishing it as an adult because I could never find the books at my library. It was and still is the only book series I've read from beginning to end, that's mainly because I enjoyed it and it had me on the edge of my seat after every chapter. The movie was criminal to say the least. Think Dragonball Evolution but worse. They created new characters that never existed, they completely changed the story and instead of trying to make it long running franchise they killed it by making it so the ending is the two titular characters fighting each other as teenagers. They don't fight until years and years later in the books, not to mention it was all a game to the true mastermind Desmond Tiny (Destiny) who was supposed to be the true bad guy at the end because he's the one who created the feud and created the two warring factions - Vampires and Vampaneze (who are supposed to be purple).
Lone Ranger might perhaps have succeeded, but this movie had a formula that went enthusiastically against the grain of the character basic strengths from pretty much the first second. John Carter was a great movie that simply deserved far better acknowledgement than it got.
I personally think that Dragon Ball has potential to work as a modern live-action adaptation as long as it remains faithful to the source material instead of making something that barely resembles Dragon Ball. It worked for Pokemon Detective Pikachu from 2019 and the live action One Piece series on Netflix. Of course, not everything NEEDS to be adapted into live-action, but a Dragon Ball live action adaptation could work if given to the right hands.
There is always the fan films on RUclips. And MAN are they incredible. You can tell they were made by fans who actually cared. While they're obviously fan-made it doesn't distract you from the fact that they capture the spirit of Dragon Ball. Light of Hope and The Fall of Men are the closest to ever getting Dragon Ball in live-action right.
That Power Rangers film was FIYAAAAAHHH!!! It was so ready for more to happen, that’s how you start a franchise story off right. The world tossed away a bag of gold on that one. It was hard to compete with Marvel and Disney Live Action at the time. But those franchises are breaking apart now, it’s an open slate for Power Rangers to continue.

The problem with adapting a book, besides the lack of fidelity to the source, is that is always better to do it as a series ratter than a movie.
20: Mortal Engines (great movie)
19: Battle: Los Angeles (fairly shallow, I do like aliens but this is a poor film)
18: Madame Web (had a lot of good ideas that weren’t seen through, it’s issues aren’t what is mentioned here… except the Spider-Women)
17: The A-Team (not bad, just missing some magic)
16: Speed Racer (fantastic film)
15: I Am Number Four (not as bad as it seems, but not good)
14: Van Helsing (could have been more fun but it’s pretty trite)
13: Prince of Persia (great cast and a terrible film, poorly constructed script and direction)
12: Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (great film)
11: The Lone Ranger (blah film with wrong casting and I don’t mean Johnny Depp)
10: The Golden Compass (good film, should have been great)
9: Power Rangers (meh, not as bad as it could have been but still not good)
8: Aragon (better than it’s thought of but not great)
7: John Carter (great film)
6: Warcraft (good ideas and actors that didn’t come together… close though)
5: Dragonball: Evolution (hard to watch, not much else to say)
4: Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds tried but failed)
3: Fantastic Four (doomed film… no pun intended)
2: The Last Airbender (it didn’t work, it’s not good, but I thought it was a valid effort)
1: Dark Universe (The Mummy … it didn’t work but it could have been cool)
This list is accurate though the comments are not, not to me at least.
"Don't make the super suit green…or animated!" -Wade Wilson
I like Speed Racer. It's not the greatest movie ever made, duh, but it doesn't deserve the hate. Its fun, it's weird, and the fact it acts like it's more serious than it knows it really is makes it silly in a good way
one of my favorites classic movie me and little sister had watched it awhile back
And don't forget it's extremely Racist 😂
Yeah, it's awesome
I love that movie. The last race is amazing. It's one my favorite guilty pleasure movies.
It’s 1:37
3:26 A team was amazing especially the Tank scene.
Dragon Ball was a terrible movie that didn't follow the source material. 🎉
🥉
It got Akira Toriyama back to Dragon Ball

The power rangers movie wasn't that bad, it's just Hasbro decided not to continue. Though I hope the second movie can be announced.
For what it was, I actually enjoyed it. I liked the teaser at the end
John Carter was a good movie. I often watch it on DVD.
15:02 Anyone remember how Deadpool killed himself before this movie even happened at the end of Deadpool 2?
Yup 😛
"You're welcome, Canada."
I liked Speed Racer and Van Hellsing. We don't speak of Dragonball Evolution or The Last Airbender.
Add in:
Ender's Game,
Dredd,
Max Steel,
Spawn,
Howard The Duck,
Battlefield Earth,
Final Fantasy The Spirit Within
Dragon Ball Evolution & The Avatar live action movies should've never been conceived.
The irony that none of the actors in the photo at 18:12 were in the room at the same time ... hilarious!
The Dark Universe is just an embarrassment. And that picture they took together... comedy, boy.🤣😂🤣
I remember working at AMC during that one and maybe 3-4 people would be in a showing 😂😂😂that was if it was busy otherwise it was 0-2 people 😂
Got to John Carter, listened to comments, turned video off.
Can it be done better now yes but again let's also be real and not just talk from a fan point
The reason why the A Tean flipped was because it opened the same weekend that the 2010 world cup began. If it held back for another weekend it would have been a success. You also had too many characters for the children viewers to follow. So if it held back a weekend and cut down on the characters it would have been a great success
3:45 "that one guy from District 9"
You didn't have to do our Corpley like that😂
John Carter was a good movie. Don't know why it failed. Warcraft wasn't bad, it had amazing special effects.
Don't care what anyone says the A-team was dope
💯🎯
I really enjoyed the A Team. But I loved the show as a kid.
Never understood the hate honestly. Quite enjoyed it myself
I grew up with quinton rampage jackson
As a fan of the show, it took me a while to like the movie.
Let’s add Borderlands to this list
Ah yes. Tony Oliver. The lime green ranger.
Apologies for the mix-up in the video! We mistakenly referred to Tommy Oliver as Tony Oliver.

11:13 Tony Oliver is the actor who voiced Ulchiorra Schiffer in Bleach and Minato Namikaze in Naruto Shippuden. TOMMY Oliver is the Green/White Mighty Morphing Power Ranger.
Likely the same group. With bigger megaphone (media access)
Say what you want about Justin Chatwin’s portrayal of Goku, but at least the guy took the liberty to read the entire manga and watched the entire anime…… the director and producers are to blame.
Ohhh, and he also even apologized to Toriyama, after the latter passed away earlier this year.
I actually liked I Am Number 4 and was seriously hoping for a part 2 but I guess not 😢
i think Van Helsing, lone ranger, A-Team, and John Carter are actually not bad movies, too bad they didn't continue.
i think game adaptions are not respected. assassin's creed is a good example.
they should give those books another chance, and power rangers should also be given another chance.
Avatar was made to be an animation show, somethings are just not made for the big cinema.
We can measure #5's failure as a success for the fans because that led to Battle of the Gods, Resurrection of F, and finally the Super series.
Mortal Engine was good though.❤ 1:00
*Power Ranger 2017* will definitely works now cuz one of reason it fails is it's lack of action, the creators focus on character development rather than unnecessary fight scene.
i actually enjoyed it, and it's better than THE FLASH, SHE-HULK, THE MARVELS, MADAME WEB, THOR LOVE AND THUNDER(Debatable)etc.
sorry for my bad english it's my 3rd language
how dare y’all watchmojo added Van Helsing to this list Van Helsing is my favorite classic action film growing up
10:24 I knew that was coming. Yet, I didn’t like this movie after I moved on from the follow-up shows after the original show.
Prince of Persia and Warcraft, no matter who says what, I love those movies and would love to see more of them!
Don't be mad I never understood the Golden Compass, nor what's going on.
I actually cringed even reading the word Valerian - that’s how bad it was.
I remeber watching John Carter with my father 12 years ago. It was definitely enojayble and much better than people make it seem.
Van Helsing was very successful in India, even though it got a limited release & wasn't marketed well.
I was lucky to watch the movie in the theatre & was mesmerized by the action sequences. I always thought that a sequel will come sooner or later......😢😢
You can really hear the hate in his voice when he said "Male Gender" when talking about Battle Los Angeles LOL
Thats was noticeable, yes.
Before I even watch the video. 2017 Power Rangers was a good and underrated movie that failed because people were in the whole “we want a cinematic universe” honeymoon phase so it attempted to leave things open for a sequel instead of starting self contained. I would love for them to do something with that franchise
Finally! Top 20 Failed Movie Franchises Of All Time. Thank You WatchMojo!

@@BlackHatCinephile why do you spam
Failed to mention that The Golden Compass has a bad cliffhanger. I was pretty disappointed when I was a kid
I really dislike this voice actor and his stupid puns. I don’t mind the others but his just grinds on my nerves….mainly the puns
What are you talking about? This is a list, not a review.
As a man, i gotta say that battle los angeles trying to manipulate the male audience totally worked. That movie is awesome.
One thing I hate in movies; Main Characters Dying. Léon: The Professional, 47 Ronin and Warcraft. I hate it!
As a Native American, and a Comanche, i can confidently say "no one had a problem with Johnny Depp playing Tonto over here", that was others from over there
I saw The Green Lantern at Disneyland Theater with my mom and uncle. Didn’t like it that much but I laughed my butt off in DeadPool when Ryan Reynolds made fun of it
Master & Commander : The Far Side of the World had me hoping for a full adaptation of the Aubrey-Maturin series of books. Sadly, it wasn’t so…
I honestly never watched Twilight… but even I knew that the franchise was never the greatest!
I need to know who these critics are 😑😑😩
Don’t get me started on JOHN CARTER & THE JUMPER🤬😡🤬😭
I thought you needed at least 2 movies to call it a "franchise", none of these have more than one 😁😁😁😁
it should be "Top 20 FAILED POSSIBLE Movie Franchises" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All of these were supposed to be the first of many.
Which is why it says potential movie franchises
Even though they're not amazing movies by any stretch of the imagination, I definitely enjoyed Mortal Engines, Van Helsing and Sands of Time and LOVED Speed Racer and even Warcraft despite the somewhat unmemorable events of the movie.
Fantastic Four reboot version not awesome
I call it just "Four" as there is nothing Fantastic in it except for the end credits.
Agree
I think the 1991 movie "The Rocketeer" should've been on this list. I was told they were planning on making two more Rocketeer movies, but since the first movie didn't do so well, they scrapped plans to make the other two movies.
Dragon Ball and Power Rangers deserves better
Not dragon ball, that deserves only to be anime and manga
Definitely the 2017 Power Rangers, I wanted a sequel.
Only Power Rangers BUT WHY GREEN LANTERN? GREEN LANTERN IS AN AMAZING MOVIE, Sinestro played well
@@KingBowser77766 Yeah, Green Lantern should've gotten a chance
Better funeral? Better burial? Better road to oblivion? Better what exactly?
Gotta love it when a Hollywood film preaches against capitalism and then laments a poor box office. 😂😂
Lone Ranger might perhaps have succeeded, but this movie had a formula that went enthusiastically against the grain of the character basic strengths from pretty much the first second.
John Carter was a great movie that simply deserved far better acknowledgement than it got.
For the record, the book series that I Am Number Four, is absolutely amazing. Movie sucked but the books are so so so good!
awesome job about FAILED Movie Franchise from Top 20

It now has competition for that deserved Worst title with Borderlands.
Speed Racer was beautiful and 100% deserves a sequel and that goes for Van Helsing too
I personally think that Dragon Ball has potential to work as a modern live-action adaptation as long as it remains faithful to the source material instead of making something that barely resembles Dragon Ball.
I had not heard about Nathan Fillion's casting in a new Green Lantern film, I'm so excited!
Hope 3rd time is the charm for Fantasic Four, so excited to see Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic
It would be the fourth if you are counting the 1990s low budget FF production that never really got anywhere.
Yeah, but it’s going full MCU. I’m sorry to hear from this but female silver surfer is a baffling decision
It’s sad that speed racer is now getting the recognition it deserves 4:19
_The Lone Ranger_ was meant to be an epic western, but I only remember the final train chase, which didn’t excite me as much as it should’ve.
The Power Rangers' suits were totally asss.
IMO, Warcraft is the best from the list. It would have been great to have sequels of it.
