For some of the movies on this list I'd say the reason they failed wasn't because the lead(s) changed but more because they were just bad movies or in some cases what made the original movie so good was either done to death or people's tastes had changed by the time they finally made a sequel.
The problem with the new Independence Day wasn't the delay, or Will Smith's absence It was bringing back Roland Emmerich to helm the project After spending the following 20 years making more disaster movies with the same formula, he became unable to bring anything new He literally has nothing else to offer
the plot was horrible. No wonder many years later, a similarly enjoyable movie Pacific Rim had a horrible sequel because Guillermo del Toro didn't feel he could contribute anything exciting storywise to the world by then

@@aliastheabnormal I think the keyword here is "bombs", and the DC universe failed long ago. They're basically cutting their losses at this point, and trying to salvage what they built up. Their FRANCHISES are 100% failing and reaching all time lows in popularity.
The Bourne franchise should be here to this list. When The Bourne Legacy was with Jeremy Renner on the lead, it was an uproar. Bourne franchise WITHOUT Jason Bourne is a BIG MISTAKE.
I hope that Hilary Swank reprises her role as Julie in the final season of "Cobra Kai." She has such a busy schedule, and has new twins to take care of, but she could possibly spare a cameo!
She might not be able to shes on that show on ABC and she just had twins. And with the writers and actors strike going on that might not be in the cards.
She looked great in the Next Karate Kid, but her recent photos makes people wonder what happened to her looks. True, she can’t look like she did in that movie for long, but she could’ve tried maintaining the look as she got older, since there are people who can.
Most sequels that came out during the early/late 90s or 2000s were just sad/shameful attempt at trying to milk a film that shouldn't have been continue.
To be honest, I love Tron's sequel. The special effects and the soundtrack are my absolute favorites in a movie. I know there will be some controversy, but I will say that I always wanted to have a light cycle after watching it.
Imo the main guy just wasnt likable. He basically was a doomer. Sure, you can write the script that way, but its hard to pull it off. A soup may be 95% perfectly made (Not that Im saying Tron 2 is ^^), but if you mess up just one ingredient like 10 instead of 5 gram salt, its ruined.

I'll give you Tokyo Drift but I disagree with Tron. Tron's problem was that you didn't care when Quora makes it out. Aside from the voice over that talks about what could happen that was it.
Not sure why it is being blamed for killing the franchise when the AVP movies fell short when they failed to take place in the future in the Aliens era like the video games…

The only reason I watch the other movies is because I enjoy learning how the Predators hunt, seeing their advance technology, and how the outsmart their prey. Speaking of prey, the movie called Prey was an interesting movie of seeing Predators in the past before they went up against Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover.
Haven’t seen the Jaden Smith one at all, know only by The Birdman’s Everything Wrong With CinemaSins video. That said, Hilary Swank’s Julie was better than Jaden Smith’s character.

i'm sorry not sorry but the Next Karate Kid is still one of my most favorite movies, I was never a Ralph Macchio fan and I'm glad that this one had a female lead instead.
Grease 2 is worth a watch for Michelle Pfeiffer alone, as the sequel could never match the perfection that was the original movie, but it was solid. If the first Grease was an A-list cast, part 2 was a C+/B- cast, except Michelle of course, as she stood out and was well above her co-stars.

The biggest problem is most of these sequels were not wanted, needed, or the studio waited too long to make one. If a movie deserves a sequel, most of the time the original actors are under contract for multiple movies.
I personally enjoyed Space Jam 2, and I like it more than the first film. Space Jam 1 has been a fun movie, but 2 felt more emotional and made sense of how Looney Toons exists within the Serververse.
Space jam 2 I agree is enjoyable but the first 1 is just goofy and nonsensical and iconic you can’t deny it’s a great first movie in general. Space jam 2 is honestly a Warner Bros flex but it’s a good family movie.

The fact that the Mask was so bad is heartbreaking. There was so much potential in the world were in today for more of those films, but that'll never happen at this rate.
When I saw the first Space Jam, I enjoyed it so much that I was hoping that one day they could make a sequel. But when I saw the sequel, it was not what I was hoping for and was almost a big disappointment.
I personally really love the Terminator franchise. Everything after Judgement Day is extremely underrated and needs to get more appreciation. But Salvation was actually the worst one of them. Honestly I would love to see a Terminator movie.
The SAW franchise is definitely up there. The producers and writers have failed to breathe new light since 2010, instead they have given audiences a failed soft reboot and a spin-off. They cannot seem to fill John 'Jigsaw' Kramer's boots, so they have gone back to Saw and Saw II this year with Saw X being an interquel.
I liked predator 2 sure you couldn’t really replace Arnie and it wasn’t as good but it was by no means terrible, I do agree tho that Danny glover is the best part of it.

I think it's a mixed bag here,cause you have to sift through each film franchise to see what worked and didn't. Plus you got to analyze what they were trying to do direction wise
I must be the only one in the world that genuinely loves Terminator Salvation. I thought it was refreshing to for once live in the future instead of trying to rehash the past like they did in the third movie.

The sequel to the Mask was doomed from the start regardless of who was cast as the Mask. Nobody would have faired well trying to replace Jim Carrey.

I must be the only one in the world that genuinely loves Terminator Salvation. I thought it was refreshing to for once live in the future instead of trying to rehash the past like they did in the third movie.

Ironically, Tokyo Drift was the only F&F film I saw in theaters and for it being different than the previous two, it’s surprisingly good.
