And she is singing it in the original key! So many singers go to a lower key later in their careers to aid in their sometimes diminished range. Not Ann! Still belting it out! Been a fan of her singing since Dreamboat Annie in 1975. Yep. I’m pretty old. 😉
Don’t feel bad. I saw Heart live in the spring of 76. It was an outdoor concert and they were jaw dropping good. I had never heard a voice that strong before. Needless to say, I bought the album the next day.
Ann is a very skilled professional. At times, she carefully feels out where her voice will allow her to go. In this way, she is like a cat that always lands on it's feet. At her age, she sometimes falls short of her intention but re-commits to a different approach mid stride. Very skilled... Her Rock Hall of Fame induction performance shows this skill also.
I absolutely love your colorful description of Ann's vocal skills. So clear, l felt as though I was reading a novel. You must be either a writer or a singer, or both! I agree with you 100%.👍☮️
@@cindypowers4993 Thank you! Such a compliment! I am not a writer or a singer. I do have a great appreciation for good writing and good singing. I guess it shows...

Heart were amazing live....Parade only ranks her as 78 for fronting the band? Seriously?? Her voice has beautiful qualities 😎👌”master class” indeed 👍🏻🥂thanks for this Fil 👍🏻
What does Parade know???? It's like Rolling Stone. They didn't include my favorite guitarist in the top 200. Michael Schenker inspired so many guitarists, yet the choose guitarists with less talent. Ann is in my top 10!
So fortunate to have seen Heart in Fall of 2019. Both sisters present for that show. I knew they still "had it" but, let me tell you, between Nancy's exquisite guitar playing 🎸 and Anne's insane vocal ability (at 69 years young), I was still blown away!!
Hi Fil! I remember Ann Wilson singing this one! A gorgeous voice, and she never let her weight issues stop her from being front and center! I thought she was gorgeous! Thanks for showcasing her! Beautiful! ✌️
Why would you mention something like that? It’s so rude, and unnecessary, and wrong. That focus on her appearance caused panic attacks, anorexic behavior, and use of diet pills. How can you be so cruel? Your comment is a sh!t sandwich.
I'm no expert. I'm just a fan. Been a Rush fan since I was 12. Been a heart fan since the 80's. Saw them in concert once way back in the early 2000's, and Ann and Nancy still deliver. I hear a lot of people saying Ann's past her prime and all that. But I think she's still got way more in her than many other artists have in their arsenal at this stage of their careers. Just wonderful to watch and listen to.
Your passion and the work you put into these reviews is why I keep coming back Fil. Truth be told, I don't watch every one, but I do watch most of them. A lot of your topics are right up my alley. My favorite Heart song from my favorite Heart era. It seems that Ann found her soul and it feels like her voice matured in the 80's. As far as the video length, take your time. I'd rather it be thorough than rushed. You take us on a journey as well as Ann does in this song. Take care, and as always ROCK!!!
I love Ann's voice .. ever since i was a kid.. back in the 70's... the most powerful female rock voice ever.. i had every Heart Album up to Passionworks... i loved most every song they did.. she is a masterclass no doubt.. once again you are spot on my friend... thabk you again for your great knowledge!.

Hey Fil, I looked all thru your files for this and couldn’t find it, figured I’d stumble on it and just as was leaving YT for a bit this pops up. Thank you so much cause Ann is a legend in rock singers and her voice moves you (me) for decades as it contains that something that only the best have: true ability to convey emotion thru the voice. The only slight thing was I was hoping it would have been her during her prime 70’s thru ‘90’s when she didn’t limit her length of most notes which most more mature singers will to maintain top chops during tours and/or aging. Thanks anyway cause I’m so excited for this and so is my wife as Heart is our band.

A very fine analysis, Mr Henley! My daughter trained at VocalTech before it was subsumed into BIM: it’s such a relief that you fully understand the mechanics of singing, rather than just “vocals.” For what it’s worth, I think her vibrato is probably more deliberate and controlled: but my gosh, can she sing. I loved it when the sisters harmonised, but this is pretty amazing: Nancy’s a great player too. Again, the initial piano chords were too basic, but it allows Anne to open up quietly!😁
I grew up listening to the sisters Wilson. Ann has they greatest rock female voice of all time. Her sister Nancy runs a close second. She would usually sing the upper harmonies to Ann.
There is a story that heart told one day during an interview, when they landed at an airport returning from a tour there plane was greeted by drug sniffing dogs and one dog hit on one bag and all it was were dog treats . No one had drugs.
Ann Wilson played flute and very well. I think that the breath control and breathing efficiency need to play the flute greatly added to her singing abilities. ruclips.net/video/Pp862e4vaug/видео.html is a very early, 1976, small venue concert, featuring Ann on flute on a few numbers. Also, check the drum solo on Magic Man at the end of the concert.
How awesome is it that we get to listen to all these awsome vocalists. I don't believe that there is a perfect vocalists because they have their own personality and perfections depending on their range that their voice chords allows. If you compare Anne Wilson to say Sheryl Crow. Totally different vocal abilities but both so beautiful. Anne is brilliant. Her voice is so crisp and clear. Great analysis Fil. I'm really enjoying your content. Thanks.
