I knew she was good, very good... i did not know she was this good..
Little story time :
Back in the day, mid/late 90's i worked as a sound technician at our local stage, doing different tasks like stage manager, front of house, and monitors.
We had a sort of indoor Metal festival one weekend and the headliners were Within Temptation and After Forever.
Initially i would do FOH but due to .. lets say "technical issues" i had to do monitors instead because the guy who would do monitoring ran into an issue he couldn't solve so we traded places. (This was during the sound check)
The problem was not the equipment really... well it kinda wasn't and it was at the same time, there was a factor we had never ran into before, that factor was Floor Jansen.
Imagine a room for around 350 people, with a stage and a big bar and a relatively low ceiling, so basically a box with a stage that made the low ceiling even lower.
A tall person, with a little jump, could easily touch the ceiling when on the stage and there we had Floor, a very tall lady with extremely powerful vocals, hitting ranges that did not resonate well with the "box" we were in.
So we had massive feedback each time she hit certain notes, with a LOT of EQ'ing i managed to get most of that under control, but i had to actively control her monitor volume for the entire show, not easy when you're only half aware of their songs lol.
In the end we did pull it off as much as was possible, but that evening i did realize she was exceptionally gifted as a singer and that she was meant for greatness.
Sometimes you just know and with her.. i knew it for sure, and after doing her monitors that one time.. i've never feared to do anyone's monitors ever again, i survived in doing my job and we gave the audience a great show hehehe.
That's my one Floor encounter story, she made me work hard that evening! (and i loved every second of it! eventho i cursed like a sailor half of the show lol)
Thank you for sharing this story! I have no idea of what you actually had to do there, but enjoyed it very much nevertheless.
I can get pretty decent (considering) sound out of a Pioneer car head unit, via playing with the built-in 3 band parametric EQ, HPF and LPF. I would be totally lost even doing basic audio engineering, for a live show. I couldn't even fathom where to start dialing in equipment for a voice like Floor's. She has crazy pitch range and dynamic range. I bet after you successfully managed feedback for Floor, everyone else seemed like a walk in the park.
This is awesome!
@@horseshoe_nc hehehe, yeah could certainly say that, after Floor it somehow seemed all a lot easier lol
@@zaphod333 i'll give a quick description : Stage manager = the person who leads the stage crew, the crew does the microphones and setup, as well as hands-on stuff when needed during a show (mic falling over, they will put it back) the manager also makes sure the band gets on stage on time, everything is ready for use, and that crew members are in place. He's basically the boss of the stage.
Front of House (FoH) is a fancy bit of words to describe the mixing desk facing the stage, where a sound technician will do the mixing of the instruments and vocals, for everyone to hear in the audience. This job is visible for everyone, ever been to a concert, you've seen the FoH setup.
And the monitors are the big speakers on stage that are directed at the singer and other musicians, each of these speakers is controlled separate from each other so each musician only hears what he/she needs to hear to do their job.
The singers will usually have their own voice and the drum kit (the beat) on their monitor, sometimes they want the bass and/or guitar as well, but usually they want as little as possible so they can focus on their vocals better.
That is in short, more or less what the terms stand for. :)
I remember reading somewhere a perfect description of Floor: "Other artists sing what they can, Floor sing what she wants."
Brittany Slays "Hold my Beer". I Love Floor and the genre but I am more of a power metal person. Brittany Slays (Unleash the Archers) is starting to be known as the Floor Jansen of Power Metal. If you have never heard her check out "Tonight we Ride".
Old one but still working and fun, lol!
@@kenb4530 if shes known as the floor of metal, tell me who is the greatest? i love unleash the archers tho
For someone like Floor...autotune and pitch correction would only hinder her. She needs neither, and they would hide the beauty of her voice. It would be like color correcting a sunset. Just keep your grubby mitts of of it, and sit back and enjoy the beauty of it.
Color correcting a sunset -- damn, that is precisely it.
💯 Agree. FLOOR'S a Gifted Singer..She doesn't need help.
I do not understand why she is not more well known. She is amazing.
Singing in metal genre limits her exposure.
Now she's is a Swede, so to speak, but if she were born a Swede, she might be almost as famous as the Great Avicii... 😛
She's singing 12 to 20 min pieces one by one at a concert effortlessly, most radio station DJs can't stop blarring over a the end of an 2 min pop song ... that's why.
In real life it would be news, some radio DJ bla bla, three Nightwish songs and the next hourly news.
@@tubehepa She's from Netherlands ^^ The rest of the band is Finnish though.
@@HawkNButterfly Her husband is Swedish and she lives in Sweden so I'm sure that's what they were referring to.
Floor moves me to tears like nobody else. The beauty in her voice is overwhelming. I agree that when master vocalists like Floor go technically sharp or flat it is in no way a mistake but is purely intentional. Knowing when and how much to go off note is part of their mastery.
I only got ten minutes into your video and had to go off on a quest to find more Floor Jansen! Holy hell! Why have I not heard this before? It's absolutely astounding. OK, back to YOUR video. 🙂
Duuude....you have a lot of listening to catch up on. The band, Nightwish, has been performing since 96. But they didn't add Floor Jansen until 2013, right after their performance at Wäcken.
Floor had been performing for several years with two other bands before she was invited to join NW as a guest vocalist. NW had heard of Floor and Floor was a fan of NW. The timing was perfect as Floor was actually on hiatus from her band (recovering from burnout).
If I could be so bold as to suggest...
Nightwish at Wäcken in 2013 has been described as "magical". In front of 82000+ adoring fans they created a musical experience that has rarely been equalled.
The musicianship, the stage production, the exchanged energy and the stunning vocals...
You'll never be the same.
GHOST LOVE SCORE is most often utilized as an introduction to Nightwish, and Floor Jansen.
But you could experience any track from this show and still be moved.
Once introduced to Nightwish, you'll be thrust into the living arms of the Nightwish Army.

The same thing happened with @DreamTheater, I learned about them late and had a lot of catching up to do (this was a while back).
@@JDoors Here Floor sings her song from her band Revamp, listen, you will be shocked ruclips.net/video/SNPesLFTnUg/видео.html
Floor has got to be the MOST versatile singer performing today. She can do it all, from actual opera, to, death metal growls, and, everything in between.
Lord, that Wacken performance!
I was there....and at that time, Floor was still the temporary replacement in Nightwish. Right before the show started, they announced almost "by the way": Nightwish will record this for a live release......and the crowd went completely nuts. It was a glorious moment!
Wow, that is amazing. Once in a life time
Floor and Troy was already official prior to Wacken 2013 but they kept it from public.
@@ErikNapitu That is correct! However to the crowd it was THE moment to immortalize Floors stint with them. Therefore it was extra special.
Indeed. If time machine really exists I would do anything to go to WOA'13
I've often compared Nightwish' performance at Wacken 2013 to Woodstock or Queen at Live Aid 1984. Once in a lifetime and I'm sad I wasn't there
When I heard Floor for the first time i thought...no way can that be? She is very good. I can easily agree with the voice of the century. Link that voice with her stage performance, her calmness, the way she sings the story, feels the music and her stunning looks just makes this the best performing artist i have seen or heard. I have been listening to music for many decades. I have a huge collection of bands and artists but Floor raised some eyebrows. She gives you goosebumps and tears in the eyes. She connects! She is damn good! The best.
Oh my god Floor, no wonder hearing this for the first time made me cry for the first time in a decade. She´s perfect!! Also probably why I can´t stop listening to it. Pure beauty!!
One of the greatest singers of all time
As this video shows , she is not perfect, she is better than perfect . She is superbly human. Unlike any other human...
@@gregjetnikoff7124 Thats a good way to put it. :)
It is always reassuring to hear others say this because I could not figure out why listening to Ghost Love Score the first time I came across it made me weep so - in part I told myself it was because I had recently lost my wife and she would have loved to hear this; but I think it is just that Floor has this way of making her voice touch your heart.
@@dallassukerkin6878 Nah mate, she flattens all of us, just by being Floor and singing.
In my 42 years I've never heard a more stunning voice. The clarity of her pronunciation, and the way she flows between different sounds is on another level. Floor often uses those beautiful portamenti to ornament her vocals, and it's so cool to be able to see it as it's happening on the waveform.
I have a pretty stellar ear for spotting those digital variations making the singer sound more on pitch. The first time I heard Floor I was absolutely blown away because I knew without question there was no help going on there. The drifting up and down so purposely to and from the note hits was so beautiful it was almost chilling. Knew right then I was listening to probably the greatest voice I’ve ever heard. Your video here just proves it!! Wow. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Floor is a goddess. her voice could lure the sirens from the ocean
Haha, good one 😇😇😇
That's why she is our Dutch Valkyre Goddes of Metal...
WOW! She has an angelic voice! I had to stop half way through the analysis because I was in tears. Not too many artists can do that to me! Thanks, Fil for introducing me to Floor and Nightwish- going to go listen them now :)
Ghost Love Score was my introduction to Floor and Nightwish. Her performance completely blew me away and I carried on for weeks telling people about this incredible singer I had discovered. Beautiful voice, beautiful lady and very nice and humble.. Thanks again, Fil.. 👍
I was (and am) the same. I still geek over Floor. I get that everyone has their own musical tastes, but I don't know how anyone could pass on anything Floor. She pairs with both Marco :-( and Troy who are COMPLETELY different singers and then on to Hank Poort, Simone Simons and even Tarja.
Completely blown away, every time. Gotta tell someone!
@@MichaelTilton I still have to find a singer that doesn't sound amazing with Floor. Yeah she always sing along with good singers, but they all sound perfect with her, so it's her that can match amazingly well with everyone.
Same.
Same
My intro was to Shoemaker and then Ghost Love Score and I was down the rabbit hole! At 74 years and never a metal fan that is saying something must be special. Floor and all the other members as well. Will miss Marko the most he could balance out Floor and give her some rest during the performances. Troy can sing but just doesn’t have the power of Marko.
Damn, she's been my favorite singer for the last 20 years. I know she's very good, but I never realized she's THIS good.
First and foremost Floor is a storyteller, her voice paints the picture. She dscribes herself as a nerd for technique and together with her training she totally masters her instrument. She has been singing for 20+ yrs still producing top notch quality. It's good to see the Wacken performance analyzed cause there are some people who tought it was touched up (eventhough there are cellphone videos that clearly show it wasn't). Your software doesn't lie, she truly is this good, in fact it showed me she is even better than I thought 🤘🏼
Only thing they really did was add reverb to the performance.
@@TerranigmaQuintet was the reverb added in post-production or in the sound booth, on set?
@@josephbishop3590 I think you can hear the reverb in those cell phone videos too. But of course they've cleaned up the tracks for the dvd, that's a no brainer. All these videos just show that there isn't any "foul play" going on.
@@Garbox80 Of course it's a song for a DVD, that means they mixed it in studio, for sure a compressor (always used on a voice), and all the usual things. Reverb was surely added live at the venue, as there is no natural reverb on an outside venue.
That's totally fine and always done in each song since the '50s at least. I'm really glad they didn't touch her voice with autotune or pitch correction.
Reverb does not alter pitch or timing and does not do anything to the voice as such, it just creates the impression of a larger space to the sound in general
I've listened to a few Beste Zangers and there is no need to correct or enhance the vocals! And Floor is just next level. I watched the virtual concert and loved it, but my goal is to see Nightwish live because they feed off the energy of the fans and it makes their performances even better.
I wish you luck in achieving your goal, they are one of the best live acts I've ever seen in the more than 150 concerts I've been to over the last 25 years and always give 100% of themselves.
I was one of the lucky few hundred that saw their first ever US performance at ProgPower in Atlanta in 2003 at the peak of the Tarja era. They were jetlagged as all get out and were looking a little rough when first taking the stage, but after a couple of tracks they found their footing and burned the place down the rest of the set.
They sure do and I have seen them 3 times live and the virtual show.
Bring on 2023 for the next Aussie tour 🤞🏻
Good luck. I‘m still sitting on 2 tickets for the concert initially planned in November(?) 2020.
Of course I‘m not even considering refunding them :)
I discovered Floor by accident back in 2018. I had RUclips on auto play and the Wacken concert came on. About 30 minutes in I was like who in the world is this lady singing!!! I've been a fan ever since.;)
Loved your face whilst listening to Floor, yeah, we all do it, she is just on a whole other level.
She covers Lady Gaga's shallow on beste zangers, it is beautiful. As you said, she can sing it all, and does, from opera to growl! If you want to hear her growl, look up yours is an empty hope live at Wembley. Floor has put so much work into her vocal ability that she deserves the praise she gets. There's a lot that could learn a thing or two from Floor.
There's a word that captures what happens when you hear Floor, it's called the Floorgasum! Many RUclips reactors have experienced them 🤣😆😁
One of the very few things that has been pitch corrected of hers, Beste Zangers is known for that.
She is by far the most technical female singer ever ...she is incredible.
I agree... but you didn't go far enough.
She is absolutely the most technical AND the most Emotive singer, ever.
Nobody is even a close second.
There are A LOT of good, great and superior singers. But Floor's mastery of voice techniques and her unique ability to invest the lyrics with emotional support is unparalleled!
I agree with you. Everything you said.
But added the unique qualities she commands that others lack.
@@josephbishop3590 100% 👍
🤣
@@Antaios632 You should realize this: although Floor Jansen is not an opera singer (and still has very good(!) grasp of classical / operatic lyrical technique which she uses in her metal concerts), there are also things that Floor can do, that practically no opera singer can do... I Quote an opera stage director reacting to a Floor Jansen performance: "what is very special about Floor Jansen is the absolute control with wich she can move between registers and techniques. She often moves between chesty belting, mixed voice and lyrical headvoice, even withing one vowel, seamless. Where real opera-singers can normally NOT do this. Their musscles are so deeply trained only on opera technique only, that when they have to move to chestvoice (which most of them hate and hardly ever do), it is normally a clunky afair. Also we have seen what happens when opera singers like Pavarotti try sing "pop" style songs. It is normally not pretty.
This is what makes Floor Jansen so special: she is not an opera singer, and in pure opera she can not and does not want to compete with the real great opera singers. But on the other hand she does have an unrivalled vocal "toolchest", that most opera singers can only dream of. Pair this with her perfect control over pitch and texture and timing, and she really is one of the greatest singers! Now, of course it is not possible to determine who is THE greatest singer because would involve comparing incomparable quantities.
@@rientsdijkstra4266 calm down, I think her skill is incredible, I'm just saying it's a bit hyperbolic to say she's the "most X female singer EVER," whatever X might be. I think it's a bit silly to evaluate artists of any kind in this reductive, linear way. For example, I have known guitarists who say Steve Vai is the best guitarist of all time (or plug in various others, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie, Buckethead, etc.), and I don't play guitar, I don't know whether that's true or not, but I know I'd rather not listen to Steve Vai any more than I have to, so how relevant is it?
My gf and I went to see Henk Poort in Carre a couple of months ago and Floor was there as well for three songs. Chills ran down my spine hearing those performances.
I had never heard of Floor since I don't listen to Metal. But your analysis of her voice about 2 or 3 years ago set me off on a search for her work, and was I ever impressed. Now you're bringing it full circle and I appreciate her vocal abilities and can appreciate the confirmation by the software.
Merci. Hope your wrist is getting better.
Thanks!
@@wingsofpegasus I was in similar boat- have recently been introduced to Night Witch: Floor's vocal and singing is just incredible! The analysis with the wave form graphic really demonstrates her spot on pitch and ability to stay on pitch through the scales and melodies. Thank you Fil, very insightful!
She does a lot of non metal, look her up and treat yourself
Her performance of Vilja Lied from Beste Zangers, and Shallow from Beste Zangers, are wonderful to get a feel of the versatility in her voice as well, if you aren't into metal. But Nightwish is ...well, as a long-time fan, I can say that they are Fireside-bards performing film scores with electric guitars, encompassing every emotion on the spectrum, while wearing metal t shirts and leather dresses. It's so different and wonderful, and you should give it a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Look up The Islander, by Nightwish, live in Tampere. Good icebreaker.
@@meltharion316 I think that is why I connect with the music so much- I produce soundscapes and am so much into film score- I really like the metal edge and epic feel to what I have heard and of course the singing takes up to like Rock Opera ;)
You have answered a question I have had about the Wacken 2013 performance, she is just that damn good.
Props to Henk for holding his own in a rock song as a musical theatre/ opera singer with Floor who is so clearly in her element! Also I think it’s interesting to note that she did do a year of musical theatre as well as a year of opera in college, which is probably why she’s so suited to the theatrical side of her performances
NW fan since '06 here, and I can't properly express how validating and thrilling it is to know that she (and Nightwish by extension) is so genuine with the artistry, and each of the band members are truly masters of their craft.
Thank you for this, and your analysis of vocals is really informative. Bravo
Floor's voice has such feeling and humanity in it. Her empathy and emotional intention flow through every vocal choice she makes. Sometimes I am not even fully aware of why I am feeling the way I'm feeling when listening to her. I only know that she always sounds sincere whenever she produces even a single note.
I don't have anything more to add to the auto-tune/pitch correction conversation. But thank you for introducing me to a wickedly fierce female singer. WOW!! I am really into the juxtaposition between operatic singing and rock music. Can I say that I am "floored" by Floor?!! Thank you Fil👍✌️
You can say that!👍🤘
We fans of Floor call that feeling when listening to her a "Floorgasm" ;)
I will never forget the first time that I watched this video, I literally wept, and after watching it I just could not believe that anyone was capable of such beautiful vocals. Since then I have watched this video dozens of times, and the entire concert many times. I instantly became a fan of night wish, and Floor. In case no one else has mentioned it, Floor had already been performing for over an hour at this level, when they played this song. How many other vocalists could do that? She is also so versatile, she can sing in so many different genres, and languages . Thank you Fil, and whomever requested this analysis!
Ms Floor Jansen just set a new ceiling!
With her being that tall, that is very necessary too!
She had already been singing for over 1 hour when she began Ghost Love Score at Wacken, so it's an even more amazing performance.
And fans/wind is so drying to the throat. Wow
Floor Jansen! The finest voice in the 🌎!
The last two minutes of this performance, and particularly that last note of Ghost Love Score, bring a lump to my throat and tears every damn time. If there is such a thing as a perfect sound, that is it to me.
I'm happy you dissected this one... I'm a long-time huge fan of Floor. She's got something divine in her voice. It is undeniable that she's one of the greatest of all time. I hope we get to enjoy her doing and enjoying what she does for loooooong.
YEA! I've wanted you to check Floor out, but I was sweating bullets. Turns out, my Queen is legit. Whew. haha.
One of the great things about Beste Zangers was showing how versatile Floor's vocals are. She sung Opera in German, Folksong in Dutch, Love song in Spanish, Pop song in English, well you get the idea. To your point Fil, she is one versatile singer.
Thank you so much for this analysis. I was really hoping I wasn't following a "false trail." haha.
Happy New Year from Florida.
Ditto!
Yeah me too! I know she's very, very good, but holy shit those waveforms are just insanely good.
I’ve long wondered if this performance was “corrected” because it is so perfect. I’m glad you did this and I remain properly amazed, and as always, moved by her (and the phenomenal BAND!) that created this epic moment.
Plenty of phone recordings on YT where u can easily tell she really did sound that good live when it happened.
Thank you for introducing me to someone new! Your analysis is always clear for people of varying degrees of musical backgrounds. Your attention to detail is appreciated.
Hello Dianne. Floor is someone new to you? Wow, I envy you because of the wonderful journey that is ahead of you if you want to get to know her better. Maybe start by taking a look at her own YT channel (Floor Jansen). You'll find live performances, covers, fun videos for the fans and vocal masterclasses on her channel. Then you could have a look at the Nightwish channel and get to know them. They are a Finnish symphonic metal band with exceptionally well composed and arranged songs and very poetic lyrics. Enjoy! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Yeah, not much to add to Martine's response, except you might be interested in hearing Floor's rendition for Shallow.
The only thing that I would add to this is that the only thing better than hearing her for the first time is hearing her for the millionth. OK I haven’t quite gotten to that number yet but it just doesn’t ever fail to move or impress.
That Wacken concert always gives me goose bumps. Every single time. Floor's singing is so epic. I would readily have payed a months salary for the ability to have been there. But I wasn't made aware of Floor and her abilities until after that concert.
She is so good, she would have been a hit even in the '70s.
She would have commanded and inspired entire Viking hordes in the late 700's... Sabaton would be singing songs about her
@@m1laen771 Their drummer is particularly appreciative of her...
Hope Floor sees your reaction because she is always looking for honest and technical reactions. Not the kind reactions from us "wow this is nice" LOL😂. This is a very nice vid and very techinical and finally the scientific proof that Floor is one on the best singers in the world at this moment. Thanks for this.
I was watching the Ayreon video for 'The day that the world breaks down', on which Floor is the last singer. It really demonstrates how relaxed she is. The top half of her face looks almost bored, all while the bottom half is belting out ridiculous power. Ive also seen similar in a few other of her performances. She really is a master technician, but she is also blessed with a gorgeous timbre.
This is one of the best reactions/explanations I have seen ...Floor is a Goddess!!
Fantastic analysis - hundreds of Nightwish reactions on RUclips but this is unique thank you , reinforces Floor as the complete vocalist .
So even your machines confirm she is the greatest of all time, good
I love Floor! She's a modern day Valkyrie.
Such a great vocalist.
Thank you Fil, this was really interesting. Loved the way you explained that 'bluesy line'. I have to admit I wasn't that keen on Nightwish until Floor came along. Her voice is so versatile and powerful, just amazing!
Love just her voice no backup music. Haunting.
Thanks. I was one of the people suggesting that you run Floor's voice through the pitch analyzer. The results were not unexpected.
That was really interesting, Thank you for the analysis. I’ve been listening to Floor for a long time, but this is another level of technical analysis.
Floor did study musical theater for a year, and another year of classical singing at the Dutch conservatory after her four years at the rock academy. And she's a self confessed vocal nerd too.
Now we can actually see what a floorgasm looks like!
I had been hoping someone would suggest Floor to you. I think the Planet Rock acoustic version of Nightwish's "How's the Heart" would have been a great choice, always assuming that wasn't pitch corrected. Troy Donockley accompanies Floor on acoustic guitar and harmonies. I imagine when they finished the performance that Troy was deaf in his left ear. 😍😍🤘🤘
Man, I was waiting for this! Floor is a force of nature! Period!
Thank you Fil. Floor is one of my favorite singer's. Happy to see you feel the same! She takes me to a fluid place. Thanks again! A'HO 💚
Floor is one of the best singers I have ever heard, she puts all of her emotions into whatever she sings, anyform of correction would destroy the feeling you get from her, every time Floor makes me feel so much that most singers do not, I love that about her voice and the way she plays and flirts with Henk sometimes is just natural stage magic
THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ! And just proves what NW/Floor fans have known and been saying for many years ,that Floor Jansen is a Phenomenon and possibly the best female vocalist in the World !
Floor is absolutely incredible god given talent and hard work Brilliant. 🤘😎🤘
Thanks for doing this. There was a vocal coach a few years ago who accused the Wacken performance of being pitch corrected. He just made things up.
And this is one of the most fun aspects of this site, that we get to hear singers from everywhere. I've seen a couple of her videos before but never appreciated her voice as much as I should have. Thanks to everyone who requested Floor.
Sue...I posted this to another thread as well....
The band, Nightwish, has been performing since 96. But they didn't add Floor Jansen until 2013, right after their performance at Wäcken.
An amazing community to be part of.
WOW......just awesome.....if I were not following you I would not ever have heard this beautiful voice!
Floor is amazing; she has such great breath control and is very skilled with her instrument! Thank you for analyzing one of my favorite vocalists, Fil!
I've heard Floor sing an amazing range of stiles; From a recital of an aria by Puccini ("Oh, Mio Babbino Caro") and the "Stabat Mater" by Pergolesi (together with the also impressive Simone Simons from Epica) through musical theater music like "The Phantom of the Opera", "Dangerous Game", this "Sweet Curse" and "Let It Go" from "Frozen", popular music like "Alone" and "shallow", prog-rock and folk with "Ayreon", all the way up to - or rather down to - deep "death growls" like in Nightwish's "Your's An Empty Hope".
Her versatility is staggering.
I have to say, she is one of the most amazing live performance singers I have seen in a long while... Thanks for the break down and the isolated vox tracks brother, VERY interesting to hear them..!
Just a side note, I almost never use auto tune. Working with acoustic folk artists mostly, auto tune is so alien to that kind of music. It's like an elevator in an outhouse, it doesn't belong there.
I wasn't going to get into this Nightwish stuff. I just knew I wouldn't like it.
Then, about a year ago, 'Ghost Love Score - Wacken 2013' popped up in the list of requested video's. I watched it, loved it, fell into that rabbit hole and not a single day has passed since then that I didn't listen to a couple of Nightwish songs with Floor. Or Floor just singing a Lady Gaga song and killing it.
Her voice is the healthiest addiction I've ever had. ❤️
Thanks for your work.
And that's why shes the best in the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Floor operatic voice for me is the most beautiful operatic voice I have ever heard.
Loved this, love Floor, the best singer I have found in my lifetime, & that is pretty long, at this stage of the game!
Phil, you owe it yourself to also listen to Floor's major inspiration for becoming a sublime female metal singer herself; Dutch metal/prog rock band 'The Gathering' when they had Anneke Van Giersbergen as vocalist and songwriter. Most fans consider their live performance of 'Travel' from the TG25: Live at Doornroosje gig as their pinnacle moment: the song is a tribute to Mozart. :)
The old Nightwish singer Tarja was good at singing this, but Floor just owns it now. I had the privilege of hearing Ghost Love Score live and it was amazing.
different quality of the vocal. Tarja sings like a waterfall, Floor is dramatic like thunder and lightning
@@aurinkobay7118 Great summary about Tarja and Floor. It really depends on you which one you like more.
She does a pretty credible job with opera arias.
O Mio Bambino Caro on a Netherlands TV show.
she's got decades of experience. :-)
Greatest singer EVER!!
Fascinating. I'd LOVE to see you analyze the acoustic version of How's the Heart. You can definitely tell it's not pitch corrected, especially in the beginning. But she is utterly fantastic!
You nailed it there with "Nothing is outside her comfort zone", at least not technique-wise. Possibly genre-wise, but even then if she can mould it a bit toward her preference she will nail it.
I may be misquoting, but I do know she named one genre she can’t do. I think it was Italian gangster rap. I’d have to go back and check my sources to see if I got that right lol.
@@maurenegarza6427 France Rap
@@maurenegarza6427 You are pretty correct, she said she need to sing songs she like, so she can't sing a rap song.
Something interesting to see about this, she will perform in the TV Show "Sing Meinen Song" next March, it's the german version of the Beste Zangers show she did in 2019 for a Dutch TV, she have to sing songs of the other singers in her own way.
So, apparently 3 of the other singers in this show will be rap singers.
I'm pretty curious to see if she will try to transform a rap song in something more rocky, or what she will do.
Great choice. I never doubted that Floor has an extraordinary ability to hit pitch, but this analysis also points to her choices that make the song work so well. She just sounds marvellous however she is addressing the note.
Floor is The Greatest Female Singer today. 💯
And...I should add..of the last 40 years. She's Special.
Couldn't agree more!!!
SO....there are performers that can actually sing and don't need electronic correction. AND, it's live! Imagine that!!!
Floor IS the bar. \m/ \m/
Love you're explanation of "leaning into the rasp" and pointing out that this classically trained artist could sing any genre of music😎🤟
I was at that show with Henk. It was amazing from start to finish.
Thanks for this Fil. In my subjective view, I already knew she was the GOAT, but now there’s objective proof of it! Love the analysis vids, keep em coming!!
She’s amazing!! I love her singing this. “Phantom of the Opera” with Henk is awesome also 👍🏻😎
Oh, my God! Of course your analysis is spot on, but I can’t thank you enough for introducing me to Floor’ voice. The band is super as well. And I agree, the combination of heavier music with her technique. Wow
She is the Supreme Perfection, the best singer of all time for me. After Forever, Revamp, nightwish... Floor is amazing. Thank you
A big inspiration for Floor was another Dutch singer named Anneke van Giersbergen, who was the lead singer for The Gathering back in the day. She does an absolutely priceless acoustic version of "Leaves" with Danny Cavanagh on piano. Very interested to find out how she holds up and if the golden voice we hear in that performance is for real. Keep up the good work, love the channel!
Thanks!
I haven't even watched this yet but you've made my week!
Edit: Work schmerk, that will have to wait, I have to watch this NOW!
Thankfully you confirmed what I knew in my heart . Floor is her own pitch correction haha. I’ve seen them live with Floor three times and she wasn’t perfect but closer than anyone else I’ve ever seen live including Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar. Thanks Fil stay frosty mate🤘
I'm not a musician and at 63 I probably never will be, but your videos are teaching me to hear music differently so that music that I have loved for years seems new again. I would love to hear your analysis of Sting's vocal performance on "Fortress Around Your Heart" from his first solo album, Dream of the Blue Turtles. It's on Sting's RUclips channel here: ruclips.net/video/OiPiRKbNCWY/видео.html . This was years before Autotune, of course, and there's an unusual effect on the chorus. Again, thanks for all you do!
It's a great time to become a musician, it helps with coordination, good for mind body & soul. Do it! 😊
Thanks Fil. I was eagerly waiting for this one to happen. 🤘🤘
Her voice is amazing, her technique is beyond words she can do it all. we are so so blessed to have her, Floor must be protected at all cost!
Man...kudos to you...what an amazing analysis! Good stuff
As ever, some of the very best content on youtube. Absolutely tip top. Thank you.
It's sad that they applied pitch correction to Henk but just as when it's done to floor it is definitely not needed. He has an amazing voice
I love Ghost Love Score and Floor singing it live... listening without the band is blowing my mind.. I would love to hear the whole song like that.
YES! Thank-you for this analysis!
Thank you for this woderful analysis. Very interesting to get some insight into Floor's (and Henk's) vocals in a different way than the usual explanations from, for example, vocal coaches. Greetings from the Netherlands.
My God, how does someone sing like that? I knew she was good but I didn't know she was THAT good!
A wonderful analysis.
I love your 'courage' to highlight the variations from pitch-perfect, and fill in some of the 'why'.
Great analysis Fil, thank you :)
Brilliant analysis, I learned so much about this topic in under half an hour. Floor is my favorite vocalist and seeing a more technical analysis was a lot of fun and it's also awesome to see the underlying reasons why someone's singing can have such a deep emotional impact on the listener. Top notch stuff, keep up the great work! 🤘🤘
Floor! ⛄💗
Yet again great content, perceptive, informed and highly interesting, I'm not a musician but mix as a dj so have a sense of pitch and tempo but the mechanics of music fly above my head, however you manage to communicate in a way that makes the technical side easy to understand and more importantly, appreciable
