So I'm unashamedly Southern, and we kinda hold Lynyrd Skynyrd on a pedestal. That being said, this cover is seriously like, divine. And it's also absolutely amazing when they do it live! I used to sing this to my son when he was little... he just turned 21. It's just a truly beautiful job and few people can do it justice like Brent does, the only other one I can think of is Chris Stapleton.
Ronnie VanZant is one of the most gifted songwriters that ever lived! But I agree, Brent's voice on this version feels like the lyrics were almost written for him to sing! I also introduced this song to my son when he was young. He's getting married next month, and recently he informed me this is the song he selected for our mother/son dance at the reception. I'm gonna need a hanky!!!
@Misty Michele, @JeniB : Geez, I'm gonna need a hanky just reading your comments lol And you're both right, Skynyrd will always be #1, but this is one of the few covers of any song that captures the emotion and expresses the meaning of the song while also paying respect to the original artist.
Shinedown definitely do a wonderful rendition of this song!! Originally by "Lynyrd Skynyrd" Band! I live in Jacksonville Florida where we definitely know Skynrd's music well!! Brett has a fantastic voice and I think Ronnie Van Zant, lead Singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who's picture the little girl is holding in this video, would be proud!!
@@DawnMGP58 I absolutely love the LS version...for decades. I'm also a big Shinedown fan. When they do this song now, it's done to a different standard. Brent on vocals, and Zach on an acoustic guitar -- nothing else. It is a Simple Man's anthem. Here's one example: ruclips.net/video/cKiXmBbVN8Y/видео.html
Brent has the best singing voice ive ever heard live hands down. Saw shinedown at rock usa last year and they had all 38,000 of us going crazy one song and the next had us all holding lighters up vibing together. My favorite band hands down.
Shinedown's singer has an amazing talent. His range is amazing. But what makes him so special is that his voice has SO much depth and substance. He does this incredible song serious justice.
About time seeing someone do some Shinedown reactions. They're so underrated it's crazy. Brent's voice is nothing short of amazing and their concerts are second to none. More please!
I dedicated this song to my at the time, teenage son while singing at a little jam back in the woods,I'm told I really brought it.Very heart felt for my Son,and he turned out to be a good man!
If you trust me, these guys are PHENOMENAL live. Tons of energy, flawless musically, and he (Brent) turns what should be a rock concert into a life changing event. I've seen them 3 times and they have gotten better EVERY TIME. Now, I know your list is incredibly long but I highly reccomend, "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay" by Smith & Myers. It's an acoustic cover of the Otis Redding classic by none other than this man, Brent Smith and current Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers.
Saw them in concert a few years back. One of the best I've ever been to. Brent sounds exactly in person as he does in the videos and on the albums. Very humble guy!! Love it!! 😘
Liz Magu Everytime too! But you can tell its really him singing without question, which makes it even better. Ive seen them 3 times already and I got a 4th one coming up in July for the attention attention tour. 😆
Thank you Ty😁 I've been waiting for this!!! I'm at the hospital with my father & I needed this more than u will ever know today!!! Yes, Lynard Skynard did this originally & some folks don't like this version but I appreciate anyone with the balls to take on Skynard with some hella good vocals!!!! Much ❤ u made my day!!!!
I'm so glad you love Shinedown! I knew you would! This was the first song I ever heard from them and I was hooked. Every single one of his songs has powerful messages behind them, and that's why they're still soo successful so many years later and touring to sold out shows each year. They're only getting better. I don't know if you'll ever see this, but PLEASE react to Burning Bright and Call Me, Outcasts and Bully. I really think you'll love those songs.
Let’s give it up to Lynyrd Skynyrd. A moment of silence please.........!!!! Graduated in 79, the year of the plane crash. Everybody crying at their lockers. Our senior song was “FREEBIRD” baby, and inscribed on our yearbook. They were freaking incredible live as well! That being said, as a TRUE rocker, none other than Brent could sing this song, and do it justice. Hey, no version will ever be Skynyrd ‘s, but Brent definitely did it justice!!
Cheers again! Your message is beautiful and strong. My parents were social workers and your message rings true in accordance with what I was raised to understand. Please keep doing what you do, your messages are important! May the Universe bless you and keep you and yours. ~💗🙌
I love that you love Shinedown!! I'm 61, my daughter introduced them to me and I love them!! You have to check out "Bully"!!! Best Shinedown song, my favorite!!!!
This is my favorite band. His voice has matured so much since this. You should check out a current live video of this song. He sings it so good, flawless. Best live performer in my opinion. Any acoustic stuff you can find is the best. :)
Yes I know this Band now. They did a great remake and Great tribute to one of the greatest rock bands Their career was just getting started when the plane crashed.
New to your channel really enjoy it, I had never heard this version and must agree with you. I was a young man when the original came out, So Thank You. Your channel brings new music to many by the way you find your play list
I wrote this song out in calligraphy and framed it for my son's high school graduation. As a mom of a son... I love this version and the original Lynyrd Skynyrd
Being from the south we tend to be protective of anyone or group that is no longer with us. But I must give credit to this young man! Ronnie would be looking down and smiling!!!
Just watched your Lynerd Skynerd version and you said you like this one better. I'd never heard this version and didn't think for a second I'd like it better, but WOW, I do! Thanks for turning me on to this song. Also, it's been proven that if your basic needs are being met (food, clothing, shelter, also known as Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs), your gonna be about as happy as you'll ever be and your ability to be happy from other things goes way down. Hope that made sense.
As a non-believer I have to say I love your videos. You focus a lot on your faith as a major pillar in life but you’re so very positive in it I can’t help but respect you. You’re never preachy or self-righteous about it. It’s just a major part of your life you clearly celebrate rather than use it to feel superior. I thank you for being more “Christ-like” than “Christian” as I understand it. That being said, great song by a great band and I know this is blasphemy to some but it’s one of the few covers I like more than the original. Keep making reaction videos and I’ll keep clicking like on them
Saw a video of him doing it live in a small setting, like maybe at a radio station or something. Anyway, I never saw this one. This definitely evokes more emotion and a "pleading" about it than the original. Love when artists can do that. I guess that really is the difference between a "singer" and an "artist".
I saw them play live about 8 years ago at a pretty small venue in Tulsa, Oklahoma and let me just tell you that as amazing as that was... It's so much better live. Such a great cover of that Skynyrd song!
Can we take a moment to appreciate that MRM does not pause and interrupt the song every 20 seconds? I love that you listen to it and then tell us what you are thinking.
Love this cover better than the original...no hate people I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, my fav Freebird! As a matter of fact "Freebird" was played at my kid's fathers funeral. I told my kids this version of "Simple Man" is on my funeral playlist dedicated to my son. "Winds of March" by Journey is also on my list dedicated to my daughter. Morbid...no...everyone dies eventually. I have had my special songs for them picked out for a while, my daughter longer since she's much older...lol! As a mother it's my job to always get the last word "or in this case, request" in...lol!!!
First Cover ive heard that is ON PAR with the original. Lynrd Skynrd has the instruments that build such depth in this song, This version was Unplugged and Pure Raw Vocals!!! excellent.
You should check Shinedown in my house. It’s a party someone had in their home, and Shinedown are there singing this song, and a few others, LIVE and unplugged. “Shinedown IN MY HOUSE.” Please check it out. You can really see his singing talent here.
Being a fellow Jacksonville native and growing up listening to them I do favor Skynyrd’s version. For years this was the ringtone on my phone until my wife started using it. I’ve also had the occasional chance meeting of both Billy and Johnny. And they were both real down to earth guys, like talking to your next door neighbor. But for this version, if this gets a younger generation to listen to this great song, I’m ok with it.
