*This song is more than just a cover. Jasin Todd (guitarist) is married to Melody Van Zant. Melody is the daughter of Ronnie Van Zant (singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd). Shinedown is such a great band and I hope you don't stop here. Their whole playlist is amazing!*
@@xslsd This song holds a lot of meaning to Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. And since she's married to the guitarist of Shinedown, it was chosen for a special reason beyond just covering a song because the band liked the original. Having their little girl in the video holding up a picture of her grandfather (Ronnie) means more than just a kid in a video holding up some random picture of someone too. So it's more than just a cover to me. To each their own.
Shinedown is ridiculously talented! 45 is such a powerful song. Their cover of "With a Little Help from my Friends" live is also sick, Brent Smith has some INCREDIBLE vocals!
In my opinion Brent Smith (Lead Singer) is one of the all time greatest singers/vocalist in human history. Shinedown has so many great tracks it's a must to do a deep dive into Shinedown.
the lead singer is Brent Smith, he has an incredible voice. Shinedown has some amazing songs, please check out some of their other music 45, Enemies, Bully, Monster, and others. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the original singer. From what I read the little girl is the guitarist's daughter and the picture is of Ronnie Van Zant and a member of Lynyrd Skynrd.
Brent Smith definitely has some pipes on him. I recommend “Monsters,” “Heroes,” “Outcast,” “DEVIL,” “Fly from the Inside,” “How Did You Love” and “Atlas Falls.”
not many can cover an original and make their own and still pay such homage to the original band but Shinedown has nailed this one! I have both on my play list to this day
Brent Smith has a voice very few possess. I had the opportunity to see him do a rooftop acoustic performance, and his voice hit like nothing I've ever heard in that environment. He's a treasure
The Crow and the Butterfly. One of the most emotional songs Shinedown ever recorded. Van these guys are incredible. Would love to see more Shinedown reactions on your channel.
Brent Smith is no joke. He's one of those singers that actually sounds better live than he does on an album. But Shinedown has been my favorite band for many years now...definitely check out their catalog, literally everything they've ever made is pure gold.
The man in the picture is Ronnie Van Zant, lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Both bands are from Jacksonville. Brent Smith has one of the most powerful voices ever. Incredible. I love them both versions. Checkout the acoustic version of “.45”
The reasons for Shinedown doing this song are way more personal than just a cover to them. Shinedown and Skynyrd are both from Jacksonville, Florida and Shinedown's original guitarist, was Jasin Todd, and he was married to Melody Van Zant, the late, great Ronnie Van Zant's (the original singer with Skynyrd) daughter. Also, Shinedown got their first break playing regularly at a local Jacksonville venue called Freebird Live. That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow. The guys started doing this song as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Incidentally, in this video there is a bit with a little girl holding a picture of a man. The picture is of Ronnie and the little girl is his granddaughter.
Shinedown has made sure that Ronnie Van Zants widow gets the royalties from them preforming this song. Also Brent Smith the founder of Shinedown has an absolutely amazing voice, he can sing anything. I highly recommend that if you haven’t listened to Shinedown please do they are the complete package. The little girl is Ronnie Van Zants granddaughter.
So the band grew up in the same town as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the original band, and they got their start in the bar owned by Ronnie van zants wife, the original lead guitarist was also married to ronnies daughter. In the video the little girl is the granddaughter and she’s holding a pic of her grandpa, the hat the guitarist is wearing was also ronnies. After the lead guitarist left the band, shinedown didn’t preform the song for a long time but eventually they decided that they would give the fans what they wanted and I’ve seen the 3 times and every time they start thuu it s song the crowd goes wild. Shinedown is amazing, the lead singer and guitarist also have an acoustic side project Cale Zach and Meyers where they do acoustic covers and recently had some acoustic originals also. Brent smith also does a song with apocalyptica called not strong enough, it’s amazing!! But if you decide to listen to it, make sure you get the version with Brent smith on vocals because the other version isn’t nearly as good.
I agree, gotta go for Lynyrd Skynyrd for the respect, however this is such a great remake of the song. I saw Shine Down live and they are more my music, where Lynyrd Skynyrd is my mom’s and aunt’s music. But that’s how I grew to love the classics and love today’s rock too!
Brent Smith is rediculously talented The Sound Of Madness is my favorite by Shinedown. The man in the picture is R.I.P Ronnie Van Zandt the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd
When I saw shinedown live this was the last song they did and there was not a single person in that venue that wasn't singing with him and it was absolutely amazing!
This was the song I chose for me and my mom to dance to at my wedding. Being a long time Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, I wanted this song, but went with this version. I wanted it different and this nailed it.
Both Bands are from here in Jacksonville Fl, Shinedown did an absolute brilliant job covering this song and the only people right to do it with the connections from marriage to same city. I personally prefer this version to over the original with no disrespect to Ronnie.
Love Shinedown just saw them in concert in August. I’d go again in a heartbeat 💓.They have 16 number ones on the rock charts. More than any other band. Second Chance” Sound of Madness” Cut the Cord lots more ☝️
Lots of love for Shinedown. My favorite band hands down. Brent Smith has such an amazing range. Check out 45, follow you down, state of my head, through the ghost, and Atlas Falls. Even more than that but just to get you started.
Your smile is the same way I am while hearing this song. It gives you goosebumps. Love this song!! My favorite is Shinedowns due to the feeling in his voice.
I have always been a huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and this is my favorite song of theirs but after Shinedown came and played for us in Iraq honestly i think I have to take Shinedown but what i love the most is they kept it true to the original but they bumped up the fuel on the heavy notes and connected a classic to a generation 30 years later.
Gonna drop some recommendations because Shinedown is my favorite band. Cut the Cord, State of my Head, Black Cadillac, Monsters, and Sound of Madness. All, imo, classics from their line-up and any of them are great to listen to.
first time hearing shinedown. and the cover of simpleman was awesome, lead singer had an amazing voice. have a feelinbg Ronnie V smile n somewhere and their music lives on rip
Arguably, one of the best covers of all time. Shinedown doesn’t have a bad song. I’ll follow You down is one of my faves. It’s def worth checking out. ✌🏻
Love the original song and the Shinedown cover. Listening to this now just reminded me that this was played at my older cousin's funeral. Great jam. New Sub btw.
The picture is Ronnie Van Sant, that would be his granddaughter!! Her Mom is Melody Van Sant, Ronnie’s daughter who is married to Jason Todd the guitar player on the song!!
Welcome, brother Van! Shinedown is one of my favorite bands from their era. Pick any song of theirs and you will walk away satisfied. My personal favorites are: Bully, Enemies (the video is hysterical), State of My Head, Diamond Eyes, Monsters... okay, in that order, but all of them *lol* Please continue to explore awesome music with your reactions. I love your comments and observations so much. Thank you very much, sir!
Melody Van Zant was the little girl. Her father Ronnie Van Zant was the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the man in the photo. The original guitarist of Shinedown is married to Melody.
Van, you truly need to fall down the Shinedown rabbit hole. It's so very much worth it. The must hears 45 Call Me The Sound of Madness Second Chance AND the crow & the butterfly
I say it all the time and I keep saying Brent Smith is from a different planet. Heard them first time live they opened for Metallica. He came out and did the acoustic of simple man and 45 and his voice was even better than the cd. They lit the place up and Metallica kept saying they stole the show. The first time I heard him I was stunned at his voice. It's crazy.
This is only the beginning the singer is Brent smith nd shinedown has so many good songs. He also has a bunch of good songs with just him nd the guitar player they are called smith and Myers
Van, now you have to do Evanesence - Call Me When You're Sober and get the best Female voice now you have heard the best Make voice. Amy Lee is drop dead gorgeous in this one.
This is my favorite rock band to see live.. I actually saw them again this passed Monday. Brent Smith is album quality live. This song brings down the house when they do it live. Goosebumps every single time. And All the suggestions are great but something I'll suggest is the side project work of Smith and Myers. They do a lot of covers. Their cover of unchained melody is beautiful.
I believe I’ve asked in great detail for you to consider checking out mostly OLD Shinedown (all 4 ORIGINAL band members)- like all songs from their “Leave A Whisper” album and “Us and Them” album. After that, they changed bassist and lead guitarist and so did their sound and vibe and it’s been an EXTREEEEMLY disappointing, frustrating turn for many hardcore original band fans. Their first couple albums plus un marketed /unreleased singles were SOOO AWSOME and they were REALLY taking off straight UP to the stars when they lost their 2 great guitarists. (NOT death, just left band!🙃) There’s a whole OTHER (“New”) group of fans that didn’t discover them until they entered their 2nd phase of band ship with the 2 newer members- it’s the current band and those fans apparently know NOTHING or VERRRY LITTLE about their original vibe so they have NO IDEA how truly BADASS, KICKASS they were back in the day, however, they still like their current vibe. It is my contention that no matter WHICH era you fall into, if you at least hear their original stuff just once, you will most likely drop the current stuff luke a hot potato and rock out to the early stuff without EVERR looking back. Songs to try: Fly From The Inside Heros Burning Bright Save Me In Memory Better Version Left Out Stranger Inside 45 The Crow and The Butterfly No More Love They have a bunch of TERRIFIC unreleased ones that I wish you could hear but, there’s no way that I know of for you to really do that right now. Anyway, all those (above) are from early albums so they’ll be a fantastic start. Im sure if people recommend other stuff they’ll mostly be MUCH more mellow, popish-radio-type songs. I heard that the little girl in this video is Jasin and his then- wife’s little girl. Julie in Texas
I saw Shinedown live in Little Rock and they did an acoustic version of Simple Man blended into acoustic 45. It was amazing! Brent has one of the best voices. I recommend checking out "45" and "The Crow and The Butterfly." They have so many good ones, but those stand out to me. Love your reactions man!
Brent Smith is amazing. He sounds exactly the same live. Check out The Crow and the Butterfly, 45, Save Me, Fly From the Inside, Diamond Eyes, and Second Chance..... Can't Wait to see them on the 21st here in Dallas
Brent smith his voice. Seen him in concert a few times. Very good! Check out Smith & Myers Bad at Love his guitarist and him solo singing. Rock on. He has a LOT of good songs. '45' he sings too Shinedown
Shinedown's version of simple man is actually 4th on my list of that song. In order for me Lynyrd Skynyrd Ryan Upchurch Jensen Ackles (Dean from Supernatural) Shinedown If you have time and the chance give the others a listen.
Shinedown doesn't have a bad song. So worth the trip down the rabbit hole. Brent & Zach (singer & guitarist) also have a side project called Smith & Myers with a bunch of different covers, as well as originals. PS - Welcome to the Shinedown Family!
my son is a recovering drug addict and I told him so many years ago this song is for him (from me). Today he's finishing 4 years in prison ( for nonviolent crime which pisses me off since there's no treatment ) He writes to me that when he hears this song it makes him have to hide his tears....He's coming home in November!

Brent Smith deserves 99 times the amount of credit he currently gets. Give this band a damn grammy already.

@@MaRoach7 i know, i'm loving all their stuff

Shinedown doesn't have a bad song. So worth the trip down the rabbit hole. Brent & Zach (singer & guitarist) also have a side project called Smith & Myers with a bunch of different covers, as well as originals.
PS - Welcome to the Shinedown Family!
welcome to the Shinedown family.....
my son is a recovering drug addict and I told him so many years ago this song is for him (from me). Today he's finishing 4 years in prison ( for nonviolent crime which pisses me off since there's no treatment ) He writes to me that when he hears this song it makes him have to hide his tears....He's coming home in November!
Ronnie Van Zandt and Skynard, wrote and recorded this. It's their song.
You need to look up the video of him singing this at his house party! THEN you'll really be impressed!
Watch him sing this “in my house”. Truely see him sing this amazingly at some randoms house
More Shinedown please! 😁
