EV's are usually limited on the top speed, to reserve battery life, but they can easily go faster, beginning to end, than ICE cars. The Tesla hit the accelerator on the last yellow light, which is what you're supposed to do. The BMW was just inexperienced.
The 1/4 mile timing is done individually for each car from when they start moving so it doesn't matter if one of them "jumps the lights". Even though the Tesla finished ahead, the BMW's time was still slightly lower, most likely because it was faster at the end.

You do realize the G80/G82 M3 & M4 run about 2.3-2.5 seconds 0-60 and 9's at 140+mph in the 1/4 mile with just a tune and E85, right? That's with nothing more than $2,000 in upgrades and they're better for the environment (and still about $18-25k cheaper than the Plaid S). It doesn't take much searching to find the M3/M4 running with and even beating the Plaid. Talk down on other cars, but the G8x isn't one to be messed with. Do a little research and you'll be impressed with what the little 3.0L ICE can accomplish.

Don’t forget the cheap cost to charge compared to gas as well. Unless you’re dirt poor this is a affordable sedan. You can even buy one from a year or two ago and get it cheaper. It literally saves you money with each charge as well.

I've tried drag racing 1/4 with Plaid and 0 - 1/8 mile is truly breathtaking - incredible power that ICE can never achieve due to engine design because having full engine power available from 0 rpm with ICE is just a dream. On the other hand, after 1/8, I'm used to ICE finally waking up... and fixing everything.
Partially true, but also Sounds like you haven't watch enough drag racing. Teslas are fast, but not faster than most quick cars on the track that have proper tires. Even RWD cars can achieve 1.5 seconds in the 60'. So Unless it's a plaid, teslas are not necessarily faster even considering the "instant pull off the line".

I think the main problem was that I didn't know for a long time that in the USA the course of the drag race is probably based on an agreement or a decision of who organizes the drag race. I have not seen that in Europe yet - here it is always with reaction time as it should be. So when I watched a drag race where the start was not conditional on a green light and I didn't know that, I didn't understand why they couldn't see who was the first at the finish line :) and even worse was a drag race where the winner was the one who had a higher speed at the finish line . I thought I must have gone crazy. Here in the video, BMW doesn't even use launch control. EV cars have the huge advantage of having all the power available from 0 rpm. Although the S Plaid is no threat to me in a drag race, being EV + 1020 hp, 1420 Nm is very fast indeed. But on the circuit, everyone is surprised how bad it is with the driving characteristics (Plaid without modifications). Since everyone wants to enjoy the speed, they all go as fast as they can on the flat, but before the corner they all brake prematurely just to be sure. Thanks to this, not a single Plaid on the circuit brakes within 3 minutes. If I didn't know the Nürburgring by heart, I would have done the same. But in the fifth minute, my performance dropped due to overheating protection. So even if you win over the brakes, no one will finish the whole lap quickly. I immediately remembered E. Musk claiming that the time 07:35 was run by Plaid without any modifications, but the reality is that few people under 10 minutes, no one under 9 minutes. Not to mention the fact that although no one goes around a single lap quickly, it is necessary to charge after 3 laps.

The only people impressed with the instant toruqe of teslas are average Joe's that have never been able to afford an actual high end luxury sports car. My dad has a targa 4 gts and I get to drive it time to time. What makes it fun and a visceral experience is the engine. The revs the downshifts. Plaid laps nurburgring faster for less money. not factoring in it also costs less to drive around the circuit. The m4 CSL will get it by a lil bit but msrp at 140k tho :/ not a great metric to use anyway as most dont hotlap around circuits all day.

M4 start at $78,100 The Tesla lists for $53.2k then there's the tax credit in the US which brings the price of the Tesla M3P to roughtly 45k. and 3.1 0-60, but who's counting If you haven't test driven ithe Model "S", you might want to check it out. I own an M440i xdrive GC, and if I could sell it at a reasonable loss, a Model "S" would be in my driveway.

BMW is changing as a company, and IMO, not for the better, BMW continues to chop away at what they offer at given price points, and their maintenance warranty while again at a price point comparable to pricing in the past. has significantly reduced what is covered. BMW doesn't offer anywhere near what Tesla offers from a technological or performance perspective at a marketly lower price point. I test-drove the Model "S" for an hour and BMW can't come close to what Tesla is offering in range, tech or perhaps almost as importantly to ther charging network. When I test drove the "S" not the Plaid by the way, just the "S", I had a conversation with the next in line waiting to test drive the "S". He commented on my M440 saying he liked the car and that BMW was on his shortlist. I asked if he'd mind if I talked to him after his test drive as I really wanted an opinion other than my own. I did and he did. His underhanded compliment was duly noted when he stated that he had a Porsche GT3 sitting in his garage and couldn't think of any reason to not buy the "S". Either can I

The Tesla has no drivetrain lag, no turbos to spool, no clutch, etc. Just 600+ lb/ft of torque ready to go from 0 RPM.

I assume you are referring to the xdrive one or whatever. Yes that one will if you launch it succesfully. The tesla will be spot on every time while you'll need to rev and dump that BMW. I've spent a lot of time with evos and wrxs (owned an e46 also) and that tends to wear on them quite a bit but fun while it lasts.

My dad has a targa 4 gts and I get to drive it time to time. What makes it fun and a visceral experience is the engine. The revs the downshifts. Speeding in an tesla is like having sex with earplugs in. Only ur body feels it.(Except for the terrible noise isolation causing the wind to leak in the cabin.) Real sports cars hit and fill ur entire senses. Also I will say teslas look like basic traffic. No one stars or takes a pic. They are plain jane and dull just like it's interior. Nothing feels special about being in a tesla. So plain jane and dull. 0 luxury.

I own an M440i xdrive GC, and if I could sell it at a reasonable loss, a Model "S" would be in my driveway.

BMW is changing as a company, and IMO, not for the better, BMW continues to chop away at what they offer at given price points, and their maintenance warranty while again at a price point comparable to pricing in the past. has significantly reduced what is covered. BMW doesn't offer anywhere near what Tesla offers from a technological or performance perspective at a marketly lower price point. I test-drove the Model "S" for an hour and BMW can't come close to what Tesla is offering in range, tech or perhaps almost as importantly to ther charging network. When I test drove the "S" not the Plaid by the way, just the "S", I had a conversation with the next in line waiting to test drive the "S". He commented on my M440 saying he liked the car and that BMW was on his shortlist. I asked if he'd mind if I talked to him after his test drive as I really wanted an opinion other than my own. I did and he did. His underhanded compliment was duly noted when he stated that he had a Porsche GT3 sitting in his garage and couldn't think of any reason to not buy the "S". Either can I
