One of the things Jackie Chan is well known for is implementing comedy with martial arts using everything around him to help him out. Also worth mentioning, notice how he always gets hurt and struggles in the fights but also comes out on top because he doesnt give up, he's just not the all-powerful hero. I think Jen just wasn't expecting the comedy and ridiculousness in the storyline, now knowing what to expect she's definitely gonna love the second one. @ieyke 2 года назад +54

Nah, jokes depend on the context they're put in.
Some of this is a little jarring at first if you've never seen it before, because you don't know what's what.
But these jokes end up being great once you learn that the FBI guys are being portrayed as assholes, Carter is an idiot, and Jackie is a nice guy just trying to be friendly/polite but not knowing any better.
The film isn't trying to depict Carter as wise or right. He's the butt of the joke.
It's not making the FBI the heroes. They're sort of lesser antagonists.
And Jackie isn't treated as fully knowing what's going on, he's just blindly repeating what seemed to be polite.
      Context defines how everything lands.

Holden definitely is justified in his level of respect for Jackie Chan. This dude puts in work and has broken his body to bring surprisingly wholesome entertainment to the world for, what, 400 years now? Others can claim the same, but he's not bringing any weird stigmas along with it, like the full force of Scientology in his back pocket the way a cornball like Tom Cruise does.
The guy lives life like a superstar, but when you see him in interviews, he seems like a genuinely friendly guy who would give you a few minutes with a giant smile if he could spare the time. In fact, he seems _so_ squeaky clean, I almost worry about a day that an email account gets leaked and we learn some sort of Bill Cosby-esque secrets... But that guy has had rumors for years. I really haven't heard anything negative about Jackie Chan. Either he's managed to remain a pure human being, or China's censorship is 2legit.

You mentioned “Who Am I”, therefore, I love you in a completely platonic way. Hands down one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies, with Rumble in the Bronx and Legend of Drunken Master tied for second.

1:19 I have fond memories of that film especially as it was preceded by a documentary called "Jackie Chan My Stunts" recorded both on a VHS when they aired and watched them so much damn near wore out the tape.

Jackie Chan is not someone to look up to outside of their work in the movies...as is the case with most actors. The old adage about meeting your heroes exists for a reason.

Holdens reaction was great. Somedqy people will realize that watching reaction channels is more about confirmation of your feelings. It's a gamble with first time reqctors but those who have already seen the movie will be "singing along' with you and quoting things which is great

"Rush Hour" is one of the best buddy cop action/comedies of the '90s (if not, all time) that I watched a lot of times on DVD when I was a pre-teen. And the things that are faster than the bullets are Jackie Chan's fists and Chris Tucker's jokes.💯

While Jackie Chan is a coward who denied taking responsibility for his actions (regarding his child), you can't deny that he made incredibly entertaining films. The greatest action comedy star of all time.

I love most of Jackie Chan movies. One of my favorites is "City Hunter" which is the live adaptation of the Japanese anime. There is a bunch of extra silliness in the movie, in comparison to other Chan movies, that makes that one especially entertaining. Unfortunately Jackie Chan is no saint. He has admitted to beating his son, cheating on his wife several times, and has an illegitimate daughter that Chan refuses to acknowledge even when she was homeless.

Gotta agree. Love his movies, he does A LOT for charity, and he seems like a down-to-earth person in every day interactions. But you can tell when people only know surface level Jackie. I'm no saint either, but it's a little jarring when people speak about him as if he can do no wrong.
