Thank you for this short, easy to understand, and actually helpful video which got me to my first successful heat transfer after I followed some bad advice from a much bigger channel. Saved my Halloween project for my kid! You rock.
Thank you so much for this very quick tutorial! I like that you kept it simple & straight to the point😁 I was looking for a fast tutorial, but most of them were around 30 min long, talking about nonsense haha So again, thank you for this helpful video :)
I have watched other videos that show how to heat transfer with an iron, but this one is my favorite. You explained it so good! The way you explained it was very simple.
Thank you so much🙏! I was about to give up and going to order a mini heat press but your video saved me! It works magic. Love the way you explained it. So easy to follow ❤
Thanks for keeping this up! Just bought some of these from Temu and their instructions are lacking. You went in very helpful details so I now have more confidence in making my gift!
I want to try heat transfer so badly but was unsure if I could do it with a normal iron. You have the same iron I do! I feel much more comfortable about jumping in now. Thanks!
The tip about folding in half over the transfer area is huge. My astigmatism makes it really hard for me to work out if something is dead centre or level enough. I'm going to be printing on some stuff to an overcoat's sleeve for a cosplay so it's a bit trickier to eyeball than a front-facing transfer.
I am new to all this & i appreciate all the tips & tricks that are posted. Thank you for this video in particular & for saving me from buying an expensive press.
for Christmas I received the cricut explore one...yesterday in the mail....I received my vinyl sample pack from heat expressions....I can't wait to play
Thanks...now I found out my iron is missing...lol..its been so long since I've seen it...lol Reason to hit the stores for a new iron thanks again... :0)
Thank you for a straight forward, honest non-endorsed demo & opinion. You have a new subscriber! My Cricut's in the mail & I can't wait to learn more from you. I'm going to look for the an iron just for my projects today. Thanks again!
Thank you! I bought a hoodie in NYC and when I got home I realized not all the letters are adhered correctly. I’m going to try to fix it using this method. I really love that hoodie!
Thank you so much I’m new to this and tried my first iron on and failed 😂 it melted 🙈 I’m glad I found your video thank you 🙏 ❤ now I know I had my iron on too hot and too long,no mention I didn’t mirror my vinyl but I’m practicing 😅
What if I want to iron on a neck gaiter, where I have a design in mind. Is an iron still possible and what kind of transfer paper would I need for fabric like a neck gaiter? Wonderful tutorial by the way, straight to the point.
The heat transfer vinyl will apply best to Cotton, Uncoated Polyester, Cotton/Poly Blend. Most of our heat transfer options come with a carrier sheet. No other transfer paper is required.
I tried this method, and it almost worked. I used parchment paper, and I think I pressed too hard in one part of the shirt, and it lightly discolored it. My iron has indents and it didn't have any effect.
Hi Jessica, what if the garment is not cotton? I've tried just ironing it with the hot iron and it starts to catch and pucker right away - too hot!? So will this fabric not accept heat transfer vinyl?
The heat transfer vinyl can be applied to items that can withstand the heat, time, and temperature required to activate and adhere the vinyl. If you are not sure if the material will work, try a small heat test before applying the vinyl. If the material is puckering from the heat, it may not be a good match for the vinyl. There are vinyl options that require less heat, time, and pressure, if needed for the material you are wanting to use.
@@222dillon I don't use this anymore...it did not hold up in washing. Eventually the vinyl peeled off. That was three years ago...lol. I now use my family's business press. It is a Stahl's and was over $2,000 but is a commercial press. They have a business making sports gear mostly and for some other businesses too..
HTV does not adhere well to coated materials. Check that the temperature, time, and pressure recommended for the vinyl matches with what is being used to apply. A heat press pillow may help if seams are near the application location.
Can I use regular transfer tape or does it have to be a special HTV transfer tape? Also if I dont have htv transfer paper is there anything else I could use?
All of our heat transfer vinyl comes with the carrier sheet (transfer sheet) already attached. We do Not recommend using adhesive transfer tape with heat transfer vinyl.
We do not recommend wax paper as the wax on it can melt. We recommend using a multi-use sheet or a cover sheet expressionsvinyl.com/tools-accessories/heat-presses-and-pillows/
All Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) will come with the clear carrier sheet on it if you buy it from expressionsvinyl.com. If you got it elsewhere you will need a heat transfer mask
So many variables. As long as it's applied per directions, it shouldn't matter what heat tool was used for application. The washes a design can endure will depend on ware and wash. Follow care instructions for the materials for best results.
We recommend applying the vinyl to material that can withstand the recommended heat settings. Check the heat limits of the material before application.
When applying the HTV are you using a hard surface to press on. You will want to press and not iron the image. Also check to make sure you have the iron heat high enough.
You just saved me close to $100 for a heat press. I can get one of those at a later date. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this! We're first timers and 6 years later, this is still helpful!

The Vermont Country Store offers a no steam iron. Flat, no holes sole plate. Not too pricey. Can't wait to order some HTV.

What iron is it? I need a better one.
I recently was given a box of jewelry making supplies and iron on transfers with no instructions, so this was awesome!
glad it was helpful!
Way easier than how I was doing it....now I know why I melted some things lol
🤭😄
same RiP bubbled transfers hahah
Thanks so much am always thinking of doing this with iron but didnt know the heat settings God bless u
Great video. Short and includes all necessary instructions. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I have always been afraid of heat transfer, but I think I will try it!
Awesome! Take a deep breath and have fun! :)

I iron everything. : ) I hate clothes even for the children that are not ironed. I guess it is the Southern gal in me...
That wee half fold thing is excellent! I would never have thought of that! From Glasgow in Scotland.

Cool. Not too long and not too hard. Just the right amount of pressure and heat. Which is what exactly? How is this a tip?

Seams can get in the way of the pressure during application as well. Try using a heat press pillow when applying vinyl to onesies.
Thank you !! That was concise and informative!!!
It's the best video I have seen. Thank you
We have a cotton/polyester shirt made out of recycled plastic. Hoping I can use an iron on decal using this method. Thank you!
Straightforward and good
Thank you!
This is just what I needed! I'm late to the party, but thank you so much!
Same I was looking at getting a heat press but I'll just use an iron for now and save up to get a heat press once I start making shirts
Best tip ever! after numerous search

Great winter time hobby for the kids ! What would you suggest for transferring onto a hard surface like plastic ?

Thank you so much 😇that was so helpful !!
Could you use parchment paper?
Yes, you could use parchment paper or we carry a multi use paper that works great - expressionsvinyl.com/multi-use-paper-12x20-sheet/
I tried this method, and it almost worked. I used parchment paper, and I think I pressed too hard in one part of the shirt, and it lightly discolored it. My iron has indents and it didn't have any effect.

Will the htv come off after washing when you use a normal iron?
That was my question to
Ooh I like the finger pressing trick!

@@Expressionsvinyls Thanks for the info. Where would I look for the other vinyl options?
Hey, I was wondering that instead of the ironing mat I can use an ironing board?
A solid surface is recommended.
Where is the clear htv used in the video available? I only see htv in different colors, but none that are clear.
The clear sheet is the carrier sheet that comes on the HTV that we carry. Please know we don't sell the carrier/masking sheet separately.
i'm very new to this, thank you!
What do I need to make for earring
My iron is very expensive...Rowenta top of the line. It has holes and I have never had trouble with pressing.
Well good for you.

I have an issue with it getting wrinkle and some parts not sticking. Does HTV not work on all fabric?
HTV does not adhere well to coated materials. Check that the temperature, time, and pressure recommended for the vinyl matches with what is being used to apply. A heat press pillow may help if seams are near the application location.
This was very helpful. Thank you.

Awesome!!! Thanks for this.
Thank you! I was doing this wrong and too hot!
I'm glad we could help! :)
Do you have any tips or tricks for ironing small materials with inseam?
We suggest using a heat press pillow. This will help when pressing an inseam.
Yes I need a heat press but I can’t afford on at this time. Where do I print the design from for my fabric?

You're welcome! I'm glad it helped!
Thank you I just got mine
do have to use a carrier sheet? seen a lot of videos where they didn't, just want to make sure.
We recommend using a carrier sheet or a cover sheet.
Great video ! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Will this work onna puffer jacket ?
You will want to check to see if the material can withstand the heat and time needed.
Omg thank you soooo much
Thank you for the vid.. When i use the iron for 10 - 15 sec the vinyl does not stick it comes off with the bank transfer. Any tips
Are you applying the pressure needed when applying the image.
@@Expressionsvinyls brob not. thank you :p still new to this will do some more
Can you use this method to re-press vinyl that's falling off a shirt?
Yes, you will need to use a cover sheet or thin towel when repressing.
Which side should I print?!?! I tried but it’s not working, should We print in the sticker side?
Cut our heat transfer vinyl (unless it is the inkjet printable) carrier sheet side down on the mat and mirror your image.
How is the heat of transfer of iron, please
I'm not too sure I am understanding your question. The heat transfer we sell works great with an iron.
Is sublimated ready to use is the same thing or is thst different?
This is different, we are using Glitter HTV. The Vinyl adheres to the shirt.
You just saved my sash!!!
How do I get my own hand drawn design on to the heat transfer vinyl?
Check out this video!! ruclips.net/video/AUARK0bG1l8/видео.html

Thanks so much, this was really helpful
thank you so much for this video! do you recommend washing the shirt first or lint rolling maybe?
We do not recommend washing the shirt and lint rolling is always a good idea :)
@@Expressionsvinyls Thank you tons! I'm attempting my first iron on!!!! :)
Thank you!!! Can I use wax paper from my kitchen as my transfer paper?
We do not recommend wax paper as the wax on it can melt. We recommend using a multi-use sheet or a cover sheet expressionsvinyl.com/tools-accessories/heat-presses-and-pillows/

Hi. May i ask how to print images for boxes like mug boxes and cake boxes.
Thanks in advance.👍
If you are wanting to print an image you can use our inkjet printable vinyl expressionsvinyl.com/printable-vinyls/adhesive-printable/
Is it ok to iron the shirt after the transfer is on, after it’s been washed for example
Yes, you would be able to still iron the shirt.
@@Expressionsvinyls thank you
can i use regular transfer paper to press it?
You would not be able to use transfer paper when pressing the HTV. The HTV that we carry do have the carrier sheet already on it.
Much love!
can i move the iron around like when ironing clothes or will it make no difference at all.
It is Not recommended to move the iron around while applying heat transfer vinyl.
Thank you so much! I melted my first try 😂
Excellent job dear
Thanks so much Tootie!!
Can I use transfer paper on it bc I don’t have the other clear thing I didn’t know I needed it
All Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) will come with the clear carrier sheet on it if you buy it from expressionsvinyl.com. If you got it elsewhere you will need a heat transfer mask
if the material is cotton/poly blend, what setting on the iron should be used?
This depends on which iron you are using, but usually you can use the setting right under the cotton setting for most HTV.
how many washes can you get out of htv with an household iron??
So many variables. As long as it's applied per directions, it shouldn't matter what heat tool was used for application. The washes a design can endure will depend on ware and wash. Follow care instructions for the materials for best results.
Is this the same heating setting if I am applying vinyl to 100% polyester?
We recommend applying the vinyl to material that can withstand the recommended heat settings. Check the heat limits of the material before application.
I tried peeling it off after but it’s not sticking to the shirt what should I do?
When applying the HTV are you using a hard surface to press on. You will want to press and not iron the image. Also check to make sure you have the iron heat high enough.

Any trick on cutting? The cutting machine is quite expensive too
Always test cut! Intricate designs are best cut on a slower setting.
If i'm losing the teflon sheet, what i use for transfer the vinvyl to tshirt? With heat press machine
The HTV that we carry has a carrier sheet on it, you will press on the carrier sheet to adhere the HTV to your shirt.
