- After years of neglect, Volvo finally gives its first-ever SUV the redesign it needed. Riding on the all-new SPA platform, this new luxury family vehicle promises to offer all the luxury, tech, performance, and style of its German competitors, while giving you that touch of Swedish style that you've been looking for. It's a must drive if you're shopping in this class, just be prepared to pay up to get one.

Volvo has really stepped up their game as far styling and interior built quality. Very beautiful SUV.

My boss has the 2017 XC90, its beautiful. Drives through 4 feet of snow with no problem too. Trying to convince him to let me take it for a spin lol.
This new XC90 is hot. I would definitely pick this over an RX, MDX, or GLE
I miss the I-5 and I-6's that Volvo used before, they were really great motors
Nobody does any good motor (i.e. lastting) anymore. Those are good 20 years gone now. This is the world we leave in, so they can benefit out of customers, unfortunately.
Fantastic review! I always love the real world driving part of your reviews where you're not afraid to push the vehicle. It gives a real world perspective how the car actually drives and responds and sounds. Keep up the great work!
The purpose of being able to operate the heated and cooling functions at the same time are to help you dry off when you get in from the rain.
This is the most beautiful SUV. This and the new Mazda CX-9
Agreed. But the CX-9 lacks front leg room. That center console is too wide.
I actually like the large center console, especially with the wood trim on the Signature trim level. My mom got it a few months ago. It's pretty nice.
I just wish the CX-9 had ventilated seats too.
Juan Zingarello Jaguar f pace looks better than the CX9
VTEC kick in thats in a whole different Vehicle size.
I love how you review every car I’m interested in. Been watching you since 2016. Got my g37x back in the day because of one of your videos
Damn, I love your reviews so much, so detailed and well delivered. I think Volvo is killing it now. Only time will reveal the true durability of the twin induction engine, but the overall design and build integrity are supremely executed and a class above most of the competition. I could see this or the the XC-60 T8 as a great retirement travel vehicle. Keep the excellent reviews coming!
Volvo makes great autos but most americans don't realize it. Safest cars on the road. Just because Toyota or Subaru receives a 5 star crash rating doesn't mean its on the same level as Volvo
Toyota's also are most reliable, which is why you see so many. Volvo, especially these newest ones, aren't scoring to great on reliability. This is something I would only lease, if I were to get one, but never buy.
Supertrooper697 I also own a Toyota Highlander so I will agree with you about them being very reliable, but they are very boring and full of cheap plastic and like most Asian cars they rust out. My Volvo feels substantial and the build quality is top notch. If you can afford a Volvo and the maintenance then hands down the Volvo is a better car. The average American can't afford a Volvo, BMW,Audi, or Mercedes so it's expected that you see way more Toyota on the road
Volvos are one the safest cars on the market, both Volvo and Subaru are tops when it comes to safety. Toyota is reliable but not all of their vehicles are safe sadly. Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, etc aren't rated safe compared to the rest of their competitors but they're alright. For safety features, Volvo is #1 yes but for chassis structure, Subaru isn't too far from Volvo. Toyota now has their Toyota Sense as standard across their entire lineup. However they need to improve their structures and handling.

The average American? I'm exceedingly average and I just bought a 2017 T6 R-Design. My equally average wife drives a 2016 BMW 435i convertible hardtop. Our household is mind-numbingly average.
That was funny! Great rely!!! Enjoy that awesome R Design.
Hope in the near future you'll include night time interior/exterior shots in your reviews.
Great idea. This car is great at night. You get to see all the ambient light setup.
I've said this plenty times before on many of his reviews. I would love to see how the cars look at night.
I love his reviews above most other tubers, but I agree that a little nighttime footage, showing lighting and cockpit, would make the difference.
Mountain Life watch the Topher youtube channel.got the night time shot of xc90
Mountain Life I upvote this
We've got 3.5 years old exactly the same model for the 1/3 price. That's what I call the barging. Car runs smooth, very similar for the noise like our other S60 R-Design with 6 cyl (surprisingly).
Cool. Just bought one. My second car is an s60 t6 as well
I'm really impressed buy the design of this car, beautiful! Thanks for the great car reviews ;)
Just bought a 2018. Spec’ed exactly like this one. Great review
Such a handsome car and I hate when people call cars handsome. Also I'm still stuck on the fact this thing has 19 speakers with 1400Watts. That's insane
You are an excellent reviewer. I'm looking to buy this car and you have covered pretty much everything that I needed and wanted to know.
brings back so many memories
Love your reviews. New sub. Don't know how you keep up the pace of the patter, especially while driving...
One note: Your camera arcs showing the overview bob up and down. I am not usually susceptible to motion sickness, but the feeling I get is not pleasant.
Thanks!
They really did hit it out of the ballpark with this one. I see so many of these new XC90s now. I hope the reliability is still there though.
Well done. Will have to check it out. Da wife loves the looks. Any known mechanical issues with all the turbo/supercharge stuff?
Fantastic Review! Many thanks!
I think he liked this one. Positive comments throughout the vid. I like it too
Using the heated and ventilated seats concurrently allows for you to dry off and stay warm after coming in from a cold Swedish (or Seattle) winter day. Remember ventilated seats are just that, circulation of the ambient temperature of the car, so presumably, it would be blowing warm air when you have the heat on and cool air when the a/c is on.
Love the look!
Thanks for your thorough reviews! Seems like you really liked this car, and that's understandable! I drove my dad's old XC90, and I felt like it was a good thing it was a safe car because it was so hard to see out of. Looks like this one is much better!
One great use of turning on both the heated and cooled seats at the same time is to dry your clothes in a rainy day. It works perfectly!
Yes! heated and cooled seat on at the same time. AC on windows down. That's what I would do.
The reason for being able to have both the heated seat and ventilation function at the same time is an for instances when your clothes are wet and damp. While warming you up, it kind of air dries your clothes.
Excellent review!
Great review, Sofyan! I truly cannot wait until I can get my hands on one of these XC90's to review, too! I am really curious as to how it will fare in my car review tests! 🤔
Also, I really love how concise, yet still very informative your videos are! Keep it up, Sofyan! 👊😃

"The Quest To Record The Best!"
Have this SUV and love it.
It seems you were in a hurry, you missed the cool spider back there ;)
Fantastic review Sofyan your the best
I love how Volvo put there heat/ac vents in the B pillars
I love the growl of my 5 cylinder 850 T-5R!! Anyway, love the new XC90, our next family car!
the ceiling handle got me, I'm getting one
You can change the color of the gauges. You need to go into the settings of the infotainment system and its in there
That's great great great review
I would have liked to see the flat interior after folding all seats
what do you think is the best used car under or around 30k? no suvs or trucks
Beautiful front design
Beautiful presence on the road! :-)
Cassandra Sellers, M.A.
I agree.
Best XC90 review
This car is beautiful.
It's so beautiful 😭😭😭
Great review as always and I agree with nearly every point he made. I have a fully optioned '17 T6 R-Design and I would definitely recommend adding the air suspension and Bowers and Wilkins audio system. The ride handling and cornering are much sharper. Overall this vehicle should be a big seller for Volvo in the next few years.
Great review ... really practical
How do you rank T6 Inscription vs Audi Q7 3.0T premium plus? Which one would you pick?
5:54 why does it sound like that or is it his camera
Hi.may i ask about your camera set up?really want to try it.ur video got very steady shot
Hi please
Does the passenger seat have that Massage feature too ?
Beautiful SUV
nice review, thanks
So how does the process work for press cars? Do car companies contact you to see if you want to review a car and drop it off or do they just surprise you and knock on your door at random and hand you a set of keys?
Sofyan, great review, @ 18:18 a Dodge Durango Citadel in the background, how would you compare both considering the pentastar would cost the same on gas with regular gas vs XC90 premium gas, knowing the huge difference in interior quality do you believe the extra $5K is worth it in terms of Volvo's unproven reliability with the new XC90 and probability of technical failure... I'm considering financing not lease...this is a long term 5yr family car
lynx800 Don't get the Citadel unless you're leasing, it won't last over 5 without some big repairs.
Im really impressive with volvo and its safety feature, what about reliability and maintenance cost? Does it cost tons of money like the audi does?
I'm starting to fall in love with this car. The only part I don't like is that the steering wheel cannot be adjusted.
Great car. Stlying is great inside out. I kinda wish it still had the V6. Nice to hear that the 4cyl is potent enough.
Sang Eeth XC90s never had a V6?
If I remember correctly, they've had a 3.2L inline-6 and a 4.4L V8.
Yash K yes but before that they had a 2.5 inline 5 and 2.9 inlie 6 replacing both of them for the 3.2 inline 6 in 2007, Yamaha 4.4 liter v8 was new in 2005.
great SUV
Hopefully this generation has more reliable electronics than the last generation did. What a nightmare that thing was to own. Also, those big gaps in the wheel wells are unsightly--I don't see how you could say the wheels fill them out nicely twice. Agree to disagree, I guess. Interior looks great. Great review, as always!
We should mention that in some of those walk around shots, we had the XC90 in its off-road setting which raises the suspension just under 2 inches.
nothing beats the 3.0L turbo t6. beautiful engine. love my s60
I'm in love with the new redesign. My friends keep saying it looks like a soccer mom SUV. But I think otherwise. I wish the steering wheel was a little better design. Also don't really care for the rims.
damn this new Volvo is a knockout! 21 inch wheels? Wow! Even with those huge 21 inch wheels there still looks like there is 5 inches of room between the tire and the wheel well.
Checked this one out yesterday and the engine is from Japan. So, will get it.
I love my XC90!!!! Thor!!!!!❣️
Out of all the mid size luxury Suvs you've driven, which one would you purchase and why?
was that you in the no fomo commercial?
To me, unlike it's German competitors the XC90 is actually worth the price Volvo is asking.
How’s this compare to a q7
Please help ... CAD $50k-55k ish budget... currently driving cx7 2010 love it and very minimal costs for 8 years. Have 2 kids now need a bigger vehicle and was considering newer Mazda CX-9, Volvo XC90 2017 ish due to budget...maybe even the Acura MDX...looking for interior comfort and a little luxury because I dirge 3 hours a day (100km both ways) and AWD for safety and winters etc. I have never been this confused and want some honest opinions.
you missed theres vents in the third row and side vents in the second
You should compare it with the GLE and the X5.
I'd pick this over the German rivals like the X5 and Q7. I personally think it has a nicer exterior, and a way nicer interior. My only concern would be the engine. It's overly complex, and I feel like things will go wrong sooner than you'd want them to.
This car is my favorite suv ever I'm gonna to rent one for my birthday lol
why do you want heated and cooled seats at the same time? Turn heat at 3 and vents at 1 and so the heat will be transported even better into your body and neck....perfect! :)
Any 4 cylinder problems
So it's slower than a v6 but doesn't get better fuel economy?
hush o matic review? :)
After seeing this Review i have to say that this Volvo just blows everything from Lexus,Jeep,Acura,Buick away.
Clint 007 Toyota too !
Compared with range rover, and cayenne 2016
What's vets?
Better than Audi Q7 ?
Where's the 17' Audi Q7 review?
Are you sure about D5 being 5-seats only? In Europe XC90 is a 7-seater across all engine ranges by default!
He said "T5". Volvo doesn't sell diesel engine models in the US.
I just had the opportunity to keep one for a day from a dealership. The 2017 xc90 T6 AWD looks great, BUT...It was super LOUD. I don't know why these manufacturers must have moon roofs, but I currently drive a truck and the noise from this luxury crossover was unbearable, even for my GMC 1500 Sierra. Also, the seats are way too short. I am 6'5", so I know I'm not your average size driver, but I haven't had this problem driving my wife's regular sedan (es 350), or any other regular size vehicles. It was impossible to find a comfortable spot, no matter how many adjustments I made. The pedal was too high, which made my calf cramp up, and the seat seems really short, which became annoying and uncomfortable for my hamstrings really quickly. I wouldn't buy that car. If you decide to test drive it, take it overnight or take it on the highway. Because if you only drive it 40 miles an hour around the dealership, you won't notice either of these things. Not only that, but the engine is loud too, not just wind and pavement noise. This was the most confusing, mixed feelings I've ever had about a car. Loved the look and quality, absolutely hated the lack of comfort and the noise.
Waiting for the "more affordable" XC40 or S40. any idea on when we will see them?
BryB XC40 is expected to release in the fall, S40 sometimes next year
If you're looking for an XC40, then the v60 or the v40 is almost exactly what you are looking for.
I really love this vehicle except for the 4 cylinder engine. Was there ever a moment when you forgot that there was a 4 banger under the hood? Did it ever give you the impression of maybe a larger engine was in use?
I have a 2016 XC90 - Fully optioned - $73K and worth every penny I spent. I just LOVE it. This review is right on the money. Perhaps the only area where he was a little inaccurate was the fuel economy. Of course he is only going to get 19 city and 26 highway when he drives it as hard as he does. I drive mine "normally" and I routinely average 30 MPG mixed highway and city. On one 75 mile trip the other day sticking to the speed limit and going through a few towns I achieved 34 MPG - in a SUV!! Who would think that.... and yes when I do need to plant my foot - I have ALL the power I need - as he said 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds... in a 4 cylinder 6000 pound car. It's an amazing vehicle!
It's kind of difficult to describe because you have this amazing acceleration when needed but you don't get that "rumble" under the hood that a V8 gives you. So you kind of know you only have 4 cylinders but there is somewhat of a dissonance because of the performance you get. Especially when you go into performance mode - it's totally comes to life and says "I'm ready to race" and you only have to touch the gas pedal and you feel the potential of the engine. I do love the "rumble" of a V6 or V8 though and I have the same situation with my Mercedes in that I used to have the C350 with the V6 and then traded for the C300 with a turbo charged 4 cylinder and while it is zippy I miss the "rumble" of the V6 when I would plant my foot.
How can I become a test driver? Please I want!
I like how after watching this video vs the Audi Q7 video half the stuff he says is the exact same
17:25: Volvo does not require premium gas. Look at their website, the XC90 recommends, does not require premium gas. Volvo says you can use 87 with no problem!
nice.
Comprehensive review of the Volvo XC90. However, your constant comparison to the Acura MDX is a bit unfortunate. Volvo is Scandinavian and competes with vehicles such as Lexus, Mercedes, BMW and Audi. The elegant design and the multi awards the newly design XC90 won puts it beyond comparison with mediocre vehicles.
Do the Audi Q7 next
do a review on 2010 mazda cx 7 grand touring awd if you do a review redline thank you very much.
p.s google it, its great!!!!!!!
What country is this vehicle made in ?
sweden
DJR5280 Nigeria
Beautiful styling inside and out but the powertrain doesn't suit the vehicle. It's complication means reliability issues later on down the line. Why they couldn't go with a TT V6 option which would still be efficient and powerful is beyond me.
The key thob almost looks like a beeper from back in the day
Kira Ford who the fuck is this paging me at 5:46 in the morning??!

Just saw a commercial for this car, before the video. LMAO.
Where is there a volvo dealer.... hmmm
Yall reviewers are so concerned with key fobs.
Such a beautiful suv but I hear they are not reliable
Looks like the x5
