I definitely think that Nightcrawler transcends the typical “no cards left to play during player phase” syndrome. I’m with you on not being a fan of protection heroes that do that. I hope you can get him soon, i thought of you and my German friends each time i think of how Kurt is German 😂

Man! Nightcrawler is one of my favorite Marvel characters ever! I'm so hyped to see him in action and being so strong. The only bad thing for me is that it will take a couple of months until it is available in my country :'D
Hey, I played this one yesterday too! Sentinel got retaliate pretty early which I couldn't remove. That was pretty brutal. Pulled off the win with 1 hp remaining!

Just thinking... pag 13 of the rules reference 1.5 says: "When a card ability says to “declare [a hero] the defender” of an attack, that hero is considered to be making a basic defense", therefore Bamf should trigger a Basic Defense and you can use Defense Specialist.
Also, at minute 24:00 you did do a basic defense :)

Valk and her "Shieldmaiden" will work here too - it also gained 'defense' keyword, which is not technically needed per se, but does make it more rules consistent.

I have some late good news about the BAMF! & Defense Specialist interaction. You should be able to draw a card while defending using BAMF!. From the RRG: "When a card ability says to “declare [a hero] the defender” of an attack, that hero is considered to be making a basic defense."

@48:25 Sentinel is equipped with ranged because of their upgrade, so no retaliate. Good stuff though. Looking forward to playing Nightcrawler
Good catch! You’re right i totally missed that. I was too focused on trying to remember retaliate i forgot that the villain had ranged for that attack and shouldn’t have applied the retaliate 🤦🏻♂️
@@webwarriorfanatic I mean, you defeated the villain with an extra damage, so as my board game buds would say "it'll play"
I got a chuckle when you mentioned that you didn't need to worry about the upgrade because you were Nightcrawler, and I was thinking "he's gonna forget that ranged when it comes time for the retaliate I bet" sure enough. Good stuff though. Digging Nightcrawler, and your content / builds.

Very cool game ! Really eager to get him. But why not playing at least once with the precon deck ? Some new green cards seem much fun. Maybe another time.
I’ve never played with a precon deck 😅 i personally feel like it’s FFG’s way to distribute cards to players not necessarily making a planned out deck since there are often 3 copies of Max 1 per cards. Also in my community poll members didn’t vote for the precon!
Hey there, Boom Boom is better than you think. When you remove the bomb counter it deals 2 damage to each enemy.
Also, you can't forget to remove the bomb counter at the end of the turn, it happens automatically. The response is putting the bomb counter on the target.
This is correct, except because bomb counters go on Bum Bum, and that's a better form to remember that the damage is dealt to all enemies in play, simultaneously, because the counter isn't placed on any single enemy, but on Bum Bum herself.
Thank you for the rules clarification! That helps a lot. It would’ve been helpful to deal with that minion there!
@@monoludico6166 the bomb counters go on the enemy attacked, not Boom Boom. You are thinking of the wrong Boom Boom, this is not aggression Boom Boom
Boom Boom says to deal 2 to each enemy for each counter removed from it. Any enemy who doesn't have a counter removed doesn't take damage

I also haven’t received a shipping notice yet from where i ordered it. I called all my LGS like i always do and even though none of them had Jubilee for over a week, one of them had Nightcrawler! So i immediately made the hour trip to get him 😂😅 i hope you get him soon! You’re going to love him!
@webwarriorfanatic What is the proper etiquette when asking an LGS if they have a product and will sell it to you early? I wanted to ask around for Nightcrawler, but was unsure of how to go about wording the question.
@@nickgame73 I’m not sure about etiquette but i just ask if they have ____ hero pack in stock. They usually will either say “no we don’t, but we’ll have it on release” or “i have it but i can’t sell it to you until the release date.” The store i called today just said “i have it on my wall right now” so i just asked if i could buy it and they said yes

I would like you to play him with blue cards. Thus each turn, his ally comes back : make the call, rapid response, regroup etc
I definitely want to try Kurt in the other aspects. Daytripper recursion would be insane

"Nightcrawler was wondering where EXACTLY were the other X-Men? Mind you, there were plenty of trainees, new initiates and plenty of students but... The main team was gone. Something about 'A psychic dog needing help in space' and Colossus answered. Arsch... Kurt could handle this, besides the new students seemed capable. The Sentinels had cornered and captured several mutants this night with the help of some unscrupulous mercenaries. Kurt was very quick to answer by BAMFING!!! into the scene. It was rough at first! He couldn't believe he forgot his swords (Luckily he found an antique shop in the mall the Sentinels were attacking)!
He was unsteady, a little out of practice (feels like he hasn't gotten a chance to fight with the other X-Men for a while), but as he found his footing the Sentinels found him hard to ignore. Rescuing one mutant after another (although he never DID fully finish checking the mall). Kurt almost made a fatal error as the Sentinels just NEARLY readied their newest weapon, code named Zero Tolerance, but managed to get serious and unleashed an impossible to follow flurry of sword strikes."

I’ve got a question. I’m watching your game now, it’s possible I misunderstood but if NC is exhausted and an enemy with bamf! Attached attacks NC my understanding is NC cannot defend that attack? It happened around 32:12
I believe that it doesn’t matter whether Nightcrawler is exhausted or not and that Bampf! is effectively just a free defense using the defense stat (but i could be wrong. Not entirely sure with the correct rules with the new hero)

Fun game.
I don't think you played Tally Ho correctly - it doesn't trigger after N defends, it triggers after a Bamf makes him the defender. (Before you reveal the boost card and deal damage.) So I think you've missed the trigger window for it if you draw it from Unflappable.
Still looks like he works nicely in perfect defence though!

Totally been waiting for nightcrawler hero to come out and see how good he is. Bummer playing protection and not justice looking forward to see how good his personal Justice cards are

You need to try swapping the default modular encounter set here ('Sentinels') with the 'Goblin Gear' set...hmmm...'bomb counters'...watch 'Boom Boom' cut a hole in some the villains encounter cards. 🤣
Goblin Gear 🤦🏻♂️ Nightcrawler would have an extremely difficult time getting rid of the Advanced Glider… maybe he can just defend the double activations 😂
@@webwarriorfanatic Definitely in with a chance to defend those activations especially with the updated RR1.6 'declared as a defender' rules. More chances to pull off that 1/rnd 'perfect defense' and all that potential for retaliate with such a high sitting defense stat. All the 'Increase defense stat' events come online too.
But couple more attack events wouldn't hurt, maybe just 3x'Powerful Punch'
Main thing was that this version of 'Boom Boom' would **disarm** the Villain 'Bomb' cards like 'Incendiary, Smoke & Concussion' 'Bombs' which each come with 'Bomb Counters'. :)
37:04 honestly you should just kill the reaver. I mean you forgot to trigger it but the bomb exploded. He’s gone! :)
I would’ve if it was a forced response haha. That ally always confuses me. I asked for a rules clarification when i first played this scenario a year ago but no one knew how her effect works forsure
That was such a good game. 👍🏻 👍🏻 I'm gonna go Nightcrawler protection crazy this weekend. I was playing Bamf and defense specialist togerher earlier tho - oops. Where do I find rulings like that? I'm glad I saw your playthrough so I do it right now.
Thanks gnarl! I’m actually not sure on the ruling especially with newer heroes like Kurt. I assumed that it wasn’t a “basic defense” because Bamf! bypasses the exhaust cost of a basic defense. I could be wrong though so maybe I’m not the best example to follow 😅
@@webwarriorfanatic you are sticking to that grim ruling tho so that's technically still correct. I'm crossing my fingers that that non-exhausting Bamf basic defense allows draw from defense specialist.
@@gnarlantlers70 i would LOVE that. Makes it a no-brainer to grab Defense Specialist. For my non-ally deck, the plan was to grab the thwarting upgrade so Nightcrawler can thwart 3 on side schemes by himself. I ended up needing the defensive help so i grabbed the defense one but it ended up being a dead upgrade late game when i stopped using my basic defense
@@webwarriorfanatic yeah man! I feel like they nailed it thematically on Nightcrawler- he's supposed to be untouchable with his teleport. Wanna get nuts?? Throw in Dreadpool modular for two minions that turn into encounter cards when defeated!! I'm gonna be working with your no minion deck this weekend for sure!! Thanks for putting these videos out. @@gnarlantlers70 Yea Nightcrawler's Bamf teleportation feels very thematic. I really appreciate you! Hope you enjoy playing the deck. It's a nice change of pace running no allies, but I expect I'll have to add some in when I inevitably try him against Ronan.
In expert each player have to put 1 player card, from the top of their deck, under Zero Tolerance, as a "captive ally". Right?
I’m not sure! Is that from the campaign mode? I read the Main Scheme, Zero Tolerance side scheme, and Sentinel villain card himself and can’t find the captive ally you’re referring to
@@webwarriorfanatic It is indeed something from the campaign booklet. It mentions increasing the difficulty by adding cards underneath it at the start of the game, not something you need to do whatsoever.
@@webwarriorfanaticthis is a rare case, like an errata, because the rulebook it instructs players to "adjust the difficulty according to normal/standard", but it doesn't say that the rule is meant just for the campaign.
I think it's an omission in the main scheme, otherwise I don't know how else we can interpret what the rulebook says.

The first game with a new hero is like opening night at small-town summer stock theatre. Nobody remembers their lines, nobody remembers their marks and it’s a miracle anyone gets to the final curtain.
I’m a bit tired of heroes that seem hell-bent on playing Protection but I’ll make an exception for Kurt at least for a while.
Hahaha that’s exactly how it feels like! And yea I’m not the biggest fan of the Ghost-Spider/Drax heroes but Nightcrawler really feels like he’s a class above them
