Really love this guy, I´ve been into magic like 2 weeks and I´ve seen like 10 videos of him already, i´ts reeeeeeaaaally good explaining things.
Greetings from Mexico
Cheers friend!
I got back into Magic like 2 months ago, the professor has been a literal godsend
Welcome to the game! With so much to learn, the Professor is a wonderful guide to have. :D
About the same to me was always a fan Got the 1st Secrets lair ever Pony the galloping and now I'm back in the collector game /
@@txtpeer5179 I missed out on the first Pony set
This makes me really appreciate that I got Miracle Worker based on the analysis. I’ve never had an enchantress deck and this one seemed unique and fun. Excited to finally get it when it comes in the mail!
I picked that one up a well, honestly seems like it will be the most fun in the set. Good choice!
Same. Once I saw what the deck did I knew I wanted to pick it up and it's good to hear that I made the right call.
I'm just sad I need the nee miracle cards for my old amanatu deck and they're all expensive. :(
@@Lucientherat Got it last night and honestly its a ton of fun. Its such an insanely strong ramp up in power
Wow, I’m getting ready to head to my LGS, opened my phone to see if Prof had uploaded an is it worth it on these decks and it appeared, uploaded only seconds ago lol
Duskmourn is an amazing set and so was bloomburrow. I just wish they had more time to shine without overshadowing eachother…. Working on a rendmaw group slug edh has gotten me excited about magic again and I hear standard is fun and diverse.
Yeah, as happy as I am about the set (my most anticipated this year) it would have been better for Bloomburrow to release Duskmourn in October. A little more than one month for Bloomburrow is extremely short.
I do wonder if I am the only one who is disappointed that we are moving on from Bloomburrow so quickly. Admittedly, a part of this is my antipathy towards a 'horror' set and how much the anthropomorphic animals aesthetic of Bloomburrow really worked for me.
The pace of standard set releases is really impacting me negatively despite my being a relatively new player (my first prerelease was Phyrexia: All Will be One). The constant drive to shove new products down my throat just doesn't sit well with me despite me loving the game.
It seems to me that they intended DSK to come out in mid October, but the schedule was shifted before dates were released cause of the inclusion of Foundations in the end of this year rather than early next year.
I don't want this reply to come off as mean, but this has been one of the most common takes I've seen about Duskmorne. I do agree I wish at least the set came a month later, or that we even got a second set in bloomburrow, but a lot of people have voiced this complaint.
I bought endless punishment already. Really jazzed up for it. And now you can’t find it anywhere under $60
I thankfully have a game store near me that had it in stock for $50 (which is what they charged for all of them). Yes, they're more expensive than other places, but I appreciate that they don't price gouge on the popular deck for each set.
I pre-ordered mine and got it for $40 bucks. My LGS give a discount if you buy all 4.
My lgs are selling them all for 80cdn each
@Nav0nod that's how much i paid, after conversion we saved ourselves like a dollar!
We'll see if it actually arrives, but The Banana Stand seller on TCGplayer had the set of 4 decks for $120.
$30 per deck preorder was a price I could not pass up lol
I use the Commander Anthology boxes to carry my Commander decks. Holds about 19 decks in their precon boxes.
I bet prof was happy when he saw that merfolk card
Surprised that Endless Punishment wasn't your first pick. The enchantment deck looks solid, I agree.
From what I've seen, Endless Punishment advances the game state fairly quickly by forcing damage onto everyone. It's definitely powerful, but also makes you the prime target.
Probably because you will become arch enemy regularly. It's good but people WILL target you xD
@@ohnosmoarlulcatz While that is true. the constant card draw and the giagantic buffs to the commander is more then enough to win the game even if the others gang up on you. The precons just run to lillte targeted removal to deal whit it quicly enough.
I preordered a display with a friend. Payed 32,5 euros for each deck. Pretty happy with that decision :D
I’ve never bought a commander precon but that miracle worker deck looks like a lot of fun. And that value!
I played Miracle Worker earlier today (I got it last night) and I barely did any actual Miracle work, and it played more like an enchantress deck. Worked really well and I had a ton of fun with it.
I pre-order all 4 for 130$ from my lgs, and a bundle box for 40$, and I got 3 collector booster packs for coming in 4 place in the pre-release
my first rakdos precon deck, i've been putting in upgrades already. Fun stuff
I got Death Toll and I'm honestly really stoked about it. I've been wanting to build a graveyard-y deck for a while, and I'm really excited to upgrade this. I think I also agree with Prof that the rest of the decks are even better. Excellent job by WotC on this one
Went out for prerelease, in a small town. Had build a jack mardu deck with very few playables and pulled 3 leylines. Went 3 out of 4.
Sounds like you had good time!
My pre-release deck was 4 colors with an Enduring Innocence splashed in because I had so many Manifest Dread cards across all colors. I also didn't know what each color pair is supposed to focus on so I just latched onto manifest & tried my best. I won one game but lost all my matches. Had a ton of fun surprising my opponents with a 5 color mana base! 😂
Was about to leave for my LGS to take a look at these commander decks, thinking about if Prof. was gonna release a review soon, and seens like this video was cast by it's miracle cost.
Thanks as always!
Jump Scare! and Endless Punishment are my favourites especially since Jump Scare! has an infinite.
Thanks for the reviews. I'm new to MTG and your videos helps me out big! I did buy all for precons at my lgs on impulse for 140 and thanks to you I glad I did.
On the note of no msrp: a tcgplayer tweet advertised to "pick up a dusk mourn commander deck for under $30!" And linked to listings all over 40$. Hurray. :(
The $210cad Preorder price, I did it to sell off the other 3 and keep endless pain but wow, didn't know what I had bought to be honest, thank you for your informative videos, especially as a player just getting back into it from playing kitchen table stuff back in ~2011
Thanks for the review! I'm trying to avoid overspending on MTG/EDH so my plan was one pre-con and some singles this time. These deck reviews, plus a skim through each deck list, settled me on Jump Scare. I'll hold off on the singles until later but, at the moment, Death Toll the main set are likely where most singles will come from.
I unfortunately resulted to Amazon for Endless Punishment. Local stores are charging 75$+ for the precon, which is pretty wild. No way I’m paying around double the price.
I love playing Grismold already, so admittedly I'm still pretty excited for Rendmaw. Will definitely be rebuilding that with my enchantment staples.
Sadly all of my big box stores are also now selling commander decks at $50.00 a pop. Some of them even go above that! With a million decks being released every year now, it could be a fun video at the end of the year to cover your favorite precons of the year!
These actually look like really interesting precons. I definitely dig that esper one
Definitely agree with Miracle Worker. Didn't preorder it at first, but after seeing the decklist, I realized how good a lot of the cards were, so I got it anyway. A little fewer enchantments than you want (only 25) but enough to regularly cheat them out + great enchantment support cards. Seems like quality over quantity when it comes to the design choices for this deck.
Also, Death Toll is still relatively good imo. The lack of big creature ETBs isn't optimal but given you can use this ability almost every turn, it works great to wear your opponents down with lots of creatures that come back once per game. The deck has a lot of generically strong creatures, so having a lot of them (the ones you play during your turn + the one you get to reanimate per turn) isn't too bad. It's not that unique but it's grindy enough to eventually outlive your opponents. Just a very golgari deck.
I love the discouragement for mark ups 😁
I'm glad I preordered Endless Punishment for $50 at my LGS. I just wanted Valgavoth, so I didn't care about preordering it before the decklist was revealed. And I'm glad I waited to buy singles for upgrading it, since the base list had like half the cards I wanted to put in it anyway
The rakdos deck is insane, will probably climb even more in price
Happy to see Schemes make a return but, sad to see the old frame be tosses aside for generic looking full arts.
I hope those that are into it have much enjoyment from them. 🤘🦁🤘
I am realy exited for the duskmourn cards. I realy like the design of the cards. I was considering of buying the comanders from it. So thx for the video
Don't talk smack on those deck boxes. They're great for single sleeved decks! I have like 10 of them and use them for my ever-growing deck collection.
For some reason I've bought like 5 precons before realizing those could fit a sleeved deck. Sadly it seems you can't fit the tokens.
I only like the vertical shaped ones, the horizontal wider ones I find the top flap doesn't stay closed properly after a while...especially when you're constantly transporting them in a bag to play at friends houses.
It's time for C-C-C-Commander!
very happy I preordered my Endless Punishment deck at 40 bucks :)
I'm building the room commander from the set and its so much fun flavor!
Both miracle worker and jump scare looks hella fun.
Kinda want both 😅
Thank you for this video, seems like i gonna get one Miracle Worker Commander Deck and a regular Bundle, having the most value and playability for ~90 Bucks.
I immediately took 15 cards out of the death toll deck and replaced them with much more synergistic cards. its a really fun deck now.
I'm hoping for an 1880s themed set one day
OTJ
Kinda old Ravnica but it's in Prague rather than England
I'm really happy I snagged a preorder for endless punishment when it was at $40
I think you've been harsh on the assessment of the Death Toll one. Nonetheless great video. Long live the precons!
I bought the Esper for 56 at my LGS, I just want to support the place I play often
I really love Death toll! Its fun to play with it! i will be tearing it apart for the other winter though (the jund one)
Interesting that the two I got really excited by and picked up are the ones that got a tied first pick.
I bought the jump scare precon I have no use for archenemy but lands entering and turning up expensive permanents looks sooooo good!
Really loved the advertisement this time!
Spoiler for those who look into the comments first. Great video prof does some amazing tricks he even did a backfill not once but twice. Don't believe watch the video
I’m glad my local shops have them for 39.99 msrp 🎉
The sonic deck has been my favorite. It's literally just value engine into bombs.
Was worth it for me. But i preordered the decks for about the cost of 2.5 precons. I read the themes back when the boxes were first revealed and liked each of them enough to just grab them all.
The "Endless Pain" box is already being resold for $150. I had a chance to get it for a presale price of $40...... Woops.
Does it bring you joy? Yes, then buy it.
Pre-ordered the 4 decks for my pod. They came to $38. each
I was kinda surprised how bad the Endless Punishment fares in matches. A cheap flying Commander that can get like +3/+3 every turn cycle should be insane but in actually all uploaded Duskmourn gameplay I saw - which is at least 10-15 videos, the deck was kinda struggling, often not even making any impact. I've gotten myself the Jump Scare! deck because for some reason I really love Green-Blue these days. That deck did exeptionally well in those videos. Of course I know that these videos are to be taken with a grain of salt, especially from some influencers, but I can't wait to find out myself at the next MtG afternoon. Tbh I'm just a bit surprised about how little attention the Giggeling Skitterspike gets. That card is insane for PreCons. I'd love to put that little friend into my Virtue & Valor deck but my playgroup would kill me. 🤣
Ah, this post as I go to pick up my preordered commander decks
Question: how are the manabases in these? I know bloomburrow's was amazing, so I'm hoping WotC is continuing the trend.
Now I wish I had picked one up at my lgs before they sold out
Death toll is basicly a upgrade pack for mh3 grave yard overdrive. Rendmaw, Creaking Nest seems more fun and should have been the face comander. Goad in Golgari is weard and seems likely to make for very intreating deck design
How does wizards go from whimsical Disney forest animals to 1980 murder horror house?
Talk about whiplash.
Right before duskmorn I made a Rakdos Lord of riots deck with with the same concept as endless punishment
It seems to me that backup Commanders are designed to be either taken out and built around separately, or a means to rework the deck. They don’t seem designed to play with the face commander. Take Lord of Pain: it doesn’t synergise with Valgavoth at all, given it targets a *different* player than the one whose turn it is. Still very powerful and contributing to the game state as part of an overall strategy, but could quite easily be cut for a lot of damage boosters working with pinging opponents in their upkeep.
You should see game play of the Lord of Pain. It dominates every game it comes down in. You’d be hard pressed to find a more effective damage dealer IMO
@@nutellakinesis I could well be wrong, and will definitely be checking it out before I make too many adjustments to the deck. I’ll also give it credit that it’s amazing as an Arch Enemy card.
My LGS loooooves mark ups. Already told us unless we preordered that he would mark the prices up because he cant see at just normal profit.
Looking forward to this one - I got myself a the endless punishment deck and would like to hear your thoughts about it
Wanted Endless Punishment for the longest time, but during last night's commander session with my friend group I found my very first commander (Athreos, God of Passage) bunched in with my tokens for another deck I was playing with and I want so badly to do something with it that isn't just Shadowborn Apostles. Saw that Miracle Worker had Athreos, Shroud-Veiled and I wanted it just for that. Then I read the deck list...
It's Miracle Worker or nothing.
I ordered a 4 pack for 125 and my friends and I split some decks. I wanted Valgavoth the most, so I grabbed him and Zimone for $70 after tax.
My play group plays Archenemy as Supervillons. Everybody gets a scheme card on their turn.
I wanted to buy endless punishment , but my LGS was selling it foe $80. I try to support local businesses, but not at that premium!
Honestly, as long as wotc puts something like planechase or archenemy into the decks, paying 49.99 isnt over the top for me.
Never pay markups. I rather get some singles from the deck and build something myself. It is just pure greed from sellers.
Glad I preordered endless punishment before the price got jacked up
Ah, of course Endless Punishment is going for so much on the secondary market. At least they're usually easy to find at a retail store :/
i’m sad Endless Punishment is so expensive. it looks fantastically fun
Should have preordered it when they teased it
Just another reminder to anyone wanting to buy new release precon, ALWAYS PREORDER.
My lgs had a deal for all 4 decks for about $160 (yes it's a bit much but I actually did want 3 of the 4 decks so I was comfortable buying it. I ended up giving the deck I really didn't want to a friend that is new to magic so he has another deck to play now)
I actually found the WInter deck to be smoothest of all the precon. It just kinda did it's thing naturally, while the others felt vulverable to durdling around and not getting much going. Didn't try the rakdos deck but from some goldfishing Zimone kinda struggles with activating her trigger multiple times per turn reliably and miracles are kinda inconsistent by design. The delirium deck has enough stuff with two types and enough mill to get delirium reliably and yeah you have to untap with you big boy but that's kinda true for most stuff in precons.
love these reviews, thanks prof
Of course the deck I had interest in is the one getting marked up.
I somehow got all 4 for $130 with tax and i think that was a decent price
How would you upgrade death toll to make it worthwhile?
Honestly non of the precons really scream at me (before watch the video) but I really want those scheme cards so I might buy those separately
I hope someone from above will force prices to be standardized, effin’ scalpers and effin’ sneakers culture
Can't believe Bloomburrow is already old news.... WotC needs to slow down with these releases and give us time to fully enjoy a set.
Oh boy, selling my schemes. That's what I want with my precons, homework!
I picked up the death toll deck for 30 bucks, wanted jump scare but my lgs sold out immediately
How do the Podamajigs and Cubeamajigs hold up to... THE SHAKE TEST!
Not to excited for duskmourn tbh. Waiting for foundations. Still enjoying building from scratch from older sets
Does the Podamajig store Commander decks sleeved in Dragon Shield's sealable inners and their regular sleeves? I ask because they're thicker than most other brands.
I really want the duskmourn one but cant find it on sale for anywhere under £70, it's absurd :(
While I love the Archenemy cards, I'm not too fond of the card quality of those cards, they seemed to be produced a bit "lazily" in comparison, especially with the cuts on the borders and corners with the occasional "noses" one might expect from the usual punchout counters and card dividers and thingamajigs.
Also, is it just me or are the token cards in those Commander precons really a bit thicker compared to the other cards?
i cant find endless punishment for less than 80 anywhere. I am a group slug player and the deck will upgrade my deck greatly
When I saw they were reprinting Archenemy cards, I didn't even hesitate. I pre ordered all four.
The 1980's and 90's are still better than now
Probably should do an Archenemy update since they changed the rules for them.
I suggest watching MagicAids if you really wanna know what WotC is smoking besides turkey... Hah! And it aint salmon either...
✌️😎👍
Proereded Endless Punishment at my store when it was $50 at initial announcement, glad I did
Precons should be around 40$. This sucks because I liked black red commanders sub commander lord of pain, guess I'll just buy that separately.
I just wish that WotC would reprint old sets and especially precons instead of new sets and only printing a very limited amount and making people get fomo
