Good video, from a non-gurbani perspective, cutting nails is equivalent to combing your hair, both remove dead parts. If you were to try and remove the living part of the nail you would experience serious pain.

    • @ssmakan
      @ssmakan 10 лет назад +9

Good point. Just to add to that, if we think about before humans evolved society and paper-pushing jobs, back in the days when cavemen would go out and hunt, their nails wouldn't grow beyond a particular length, they'd constantly be worn down by all the physical labour. It's only now that we don't do that kinda stuff anymore that we need to cut our nails.

May Guru sahib ji forgive me if i am wrong, but one reason why Guru ji wants us to have kesh could be because as Guru Gobind Singh ji created Khalsa as an army, so if we have kesh, we need to keep em in an orderly way and thus need a turban. And having a turban made us easy to spot as a soldier of Guru Sahib's army so that people would always know whom to turn to when in trouble, which in the first place was the reason for creating Khalsa. Waheguru.

If you want that look at guru gobind singh jis 52 hukams, its written their too. Remember what ever is said by guru sahibs is bani, like you said, bani he guru, guru he bani. What you seek is right infront of you. It is ithaas of our gurus that we learn how to put the bani into practice in our daily lives as gursikhs

Its not about dead or alive! If you want answer of intellect, then let me tell you, hair protect aura, which is in layman sense you can say is your magnetic field, humans are magnetic being, Remember those big circles around head of spiritual people?
secondly hair not on electrical insulator, they are thermal insulator barrier, stroke is less likely with moisture entrapped, a function accentuated by turban! Guruji was and is anyday intellectually smarter than miniscule intellect of common masses! None of dharam gurus of any religion had cut their scalp hair! You remember the biblical story of samson, whose spiritual power lay in his hair, thats because hair protected his aura! Yes you can cut your hair as long you have not truly grasped the significance of it, but fastest way to wisdom is honesty and humbleness! Your surety in your argument shows serious lack of humbleness! A humble person is always filled with doubt

@@sajjadshah7974 it's definitely unhygienic if a person doesn't shower daily but it is mandatory for sikhs to shower daily ,(kesi ishnaan ideally)and wear loose cotton boxer shorts as an underwear for both men and women which is to be changed daily (sidenote tight fitting underwears have been proven to reduce the sperm qualityin males and increased risk of vaginal infections in females). pubic and armpit hair serve a purpose as well by preventing friction ( especially armpit hair) ,pubic hair protects the delicate skin around the genitals. Excessive grooming in these regions has been proven to increase the incidence of viral stds ( due to micro cuts in the skin caused by shaving) plus the additional risks of ingrown hairs and furunculosis. Plus Non baptized sikhs ( sehajdharis ) do cut their hair it's just you do you . Having seen your comments all over the place I would say the video doesn't provide a good explanation ,hair especially hair at the top of your head( kes )is considered to be spiritual so drawing comparison with nails is just pointless

another reason which we have to cut our nails, I shall ask a a question then I answer my question from which you will receive your answer about cutting nails.
what forms or wastage from our bodies?
ears, nose, mouth, eyes, privates, and body.... and nails.
if you ever notice the colour of the waste which comes from your body is on a greenish/yellowish colour.
which leads me to say it's off a similar colour to your nails. so nails are a form of wastage hope this makes sense.

Does it hurt when you cut your hair of course i haven't experienced it my self but i know it doesn't hurt......

    • @gurpartaps
      @gurpartaps 4 года назад +10

CAN YOU DO THIS? The hair have other evolutionary roles. I’ll explain the biological ones- 1.Large beards make the face seem bigger, which helps in attracting a mating and show of strength/virility.
      2. Thermal regulation- hair protect from hot and cold and are analogous to natural protection through furs to various animals. Since humans have evolved clothing, bodily hair have reduced while head hair and facial hair have survived considerable lengths for the thermal function served
      3. moustaches and beards significantly protect dust in breath and serves as a natural filter
      4. When it’s cold outside, body follicles make the hairs stand up and allows for trapping of warm air between them, commonly observed in winters.
      5. It is a secondary sexual character trait.
      6. Pubic hair prevent Sexually transmitted diseases and infections. They prevent abrasions to the sensitive skin of the genitalia.
Social functions- (not physiological but socio cultural)
      1. Sign of respect and well being even today (baldness is quite a taboo globally and treating it is quite a thriving business)
      2. Sign of aristocracy and wisdom
      (Most ancient philosophers)
      3. Sign of maturity and development
The pain logic does not apply here. Teeth are dead too and by your logic, and unless ripped apart interfering with them causes no pain, so I don’t see people grinding their teeth to the gum and leaving the roots intact after all they aren’t using their canines to bite through raw meats and veggies nowadays.
Similarly epidermal cells on the skin are dead tissue but plays a fundamental role in protection of the body from pathogens, abrasions, infections and absorption of calciferol and Vitamin D synthesis.
It’s not true that whatever is dead or non respirating is useless, that’s pseudoscience. Pain factor doesn’t account physiological utility to the whole organism who is dynamic.
Sikhs keep hair not for physiological reasons as those are secular reasons. Sikhs keep them to remember the will of nature and being in conformity with the will of nature or God, and their unique cultural heritage as the Khalsa. Hair remind us to be contented in life.

Marriages of soul is the real marriage. And you are married from soul when you are in love with the person.Sex as expression of love is never unpious, never unspiritual, otherwise krishna would have been biggest spiritually corrupt person, but he was not!Casual sex is unspiritual as it appeases senses, not soul!By discouraging sex before social marriage as a general rule, even to spiritually evolved people, guru nanak was basically teaching humbleness and consideration about not so evolved people who would otherwise get lost in pleasure of senses, not understanding the meaning and importance of soulful sex and thus create tumult in society.Guru nanak was always about collective upliftment of society and this kalyugi society is so attatched to senses and very disconnected from soul to understand highest behaviours so fast!So he had to descend to a level where people can comprehend, society can comprehend! The society of krishnas time, whether real or mythical doesnt matter, was very spiritually evolved! So people could still understand his behaviour! But this kalyugi society will collapse if that kind of behaviour was allowed now!I personally would say sex in love shouldnt be dependent on custom of social marriage and now that people well understand the consequences of sex and have devised their own methods to minimise the harm rather than trying to evolve,
I think your staying considerate for them is not meaningful anymore and no longer an effective sacrifice!Sex should be love, bliss, not pleasure!

Everyone knows that but that’s no justification or proof to say hair talks to us ?
Old age has more than just white hair as a sign .
I don’t buy this explanation for hair

Simple explanation. God gave us hair and it has a purpose, nose hairs, eyelashes, Facial hair, etc, the hair catches dust, dirt before it can go inside ur body.
2- Let go of your ego…. EGO is one of the biggest problems people don’t realize they have. Sikhs shouldn’t be standing in front of a mirror for a hour trying to lineup your beard or shave your legs, live in your natural state, god creates u as.
3 - simple living. A Sikhs living style should be very simple and meaningful. It’s not about growing hair, it’s more about leaving it untouched. When every sikh sits down on the floor, they have the same look, they’re inner Ego to look better then their peers goes away

From the beginning it’s never been about “Growing” long hair. It’s just about leaving it untouched. Brings a simplicity to everyone life. It’s Brings ONENESS AND levels the community, to not give any thoughts to somebody’s Appearance

Do we need our hair to change color to remind us that we are old? In today's society a 7 year old can tell us their age, so can a 77 year old. People know that they are old when they get wrinkles, get tired, when they pass blood in their pee,.
You quote Bani and in my view you can only justify keeping your hair using Bani, a book, words written by people, you can't justify it using nature. If you believe god made man, then you must believe god gave us hands, god gave us the ability to pick up some scissors to trim our beards and hair. I don't need bani to tell me things about the world which are plain and obvious
Also do you know for a fact Kabir wrote this to promote the view that we should KEEP our hair? is it not just a nice poetic analogy about getting old. I have hair all over my body which can change color, why do i need to keep it on my face and my head in order to see it change color?

Agree with notasikh notas. Why do we need hair to tell us we are getting old? There are so many signs of aging such as memory, eyesight, hearing, strength and one of the most obvious signs is the skin. This is a poor argument IMO. By this logic, we shouldn't wear eye glasses because our body wouldn't be able to 'communicate' with us that we are getting old.
Hair is not not entirely 'living' or 'dead'. The only part of hair that exhibits biochemical activity or in other words is 'living' is the follicle. The follicle resides in the dermal layer of the skin. The shafts we see are 'dead'. So if someone is to shave, they are removing the dead parts, just as if someone were clipping nails. No difference.
There may be stronger arguments out there but this is just a tenet of one faith. If your looking to be a good human being, you can do so and still cut your hair.
