Regarding golum, the games industry, much like modern cinema, is made of contractors, a lot of the teams are made of people jumping from project to project with little investment on the material. If they worked on a bad game or not is irrelevant to them or who's hiring.

i feel like the most hilariously tragic thing about Skull Island: Rise of Kong, is that its basically a TV Show Tie-In game. Netflix put out a Kong show this year called "Skull Island" back in June, and apparently its been received pretty well critically. But this game released 3 months later, and was SO huge of a flop, that it literally distracted people from the show, and removed any chance it had of being in the conversation this year, because of how bad the game was.
Forespoken is definitely an underrated game. It's super cheap so people try it out it's cheap. Up the difficulty and have fun traversing the world. It pushes you to experiment. Will be a hidden gem years from now.
This is a perfect example of ones mans trash is another mans treasure. The game is objectively trash but there is always that one person out there that will somehow find enjoyment in it.

"It's a kids game!" There's a saying I've heard that disproves this argument. “A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” ― C.S. Lewis
We need to have a Last Airbender game made into kind of like a Souls Like or an Arkham style game where there's fluid movement and combat as I think these two design philosophies are the only way to make a good foundation for it. I hope I live long enough to see this come true.
Atomic Heart isn’t for everyone. I personally loved it.
Honestly i dont think ive seen a game released as such a skeleton game since Afro Samurai 2. That game literally for some random reason got abandoned imemdiatly by the devs and is the only other game released that had people blatanly pull their names from it mid devemopment.
Atomic Heart is bad?? I'd love to see you make a better game. Oh wait you are making a game, so well see right?
I like atomic hart for how much I played it witch was just a few hours but I still enjoyed it
Starfield should be on this list.
They should have spent the time and money and remastered king kong 2005, now that was pretty good all things considering.
You gotta do a video reacting to the Fallout London videos man. They got 2 new videos up on the factions and the astonishing size of this mod. It's essentially Fallout 5.
Crispy critters!
I am honestly convinced there is some backroom conspiracy theory going on where GameMill has something on these big name brands and they’re forced to let GameMill develop games using their name. There is no way they can’t keep getting away with this!
Hope Matty makes a top 10 most Anticipated list.
Maaatttyyyyy!!! Great stuff man keep it up! I feel you on aew fight forever. I was soooo stoked to have an alternative. I still play it from time to time but it’s not what I was hoping for.
Atomic Heart was great, amazing artstyle and story with cool environments how is it on this list and not a game like The Day Before?
you know why
@@gambello1195 I don’t lol, why?
Politics! @@IDeclareWar11D2
Atomic built so much up during the intro and then the instant, The Instant, you got control the game absolutely dissolved. The world seemed and sounded and looked amazing! So much fun I'm sure but gahh damn the intro took sooooo long just to turn into that. Such a let down... and it's only #8.... I'm scared for the progression of this list lol
Atomic Heart felt like an ok attempt at a BioShock clone but it didn’t feel as good to play and the story wasn’t compelling.
I liked Forspoken but I agree that it’s bogged down by frustrating decisions. I doubt they’d ever make a sequel but it would be interesting to see what more could be done with it. “Fuck.”
Forspoken better not get a Sequel lol
@@DV-ou1yu It flopped so bad that the developer, Luminous Productions, was shut down.
@@Mr.Corinthians Yes, we all know lol
It’s not just GameMill, those companies like AMC,Universal and Nickelodeon need to do a better job when it comes to how their characters are being used. A quick dollar now, could lead to your characters being damaged by being used in this way.
having Starfield in top 10 best games and Atomic Heart in top 10 worst games is straight up illegal
And delusional. BGS fanboys are the reason why they suck now.
eh but Starfield is better?????
I would’ve put StarField on here at the bottom but still would’ve made my list.
StarField to me
“Is a bad game”
But Matty is a fanboy and would never do that
As a big wrestling fan, I was incredibly disappointed with AEWs game. The developers of wrestling video games must love pissing off their audience
Maybe played it 6 or 7 times in the first month and havent touched it since. And on top of that they were charging $90!!!
I’m lowkey well into Redfall now it runs great and staking camps never gets old for a buffy fan.
Fun fact: Game Mill has been around for a long time and they put out Big Rig over the roads racing. They’ve been putting out shovelware for decades.
Forspoken created a rule for me, if its beyond expensive wait for it to come out because most likely it will be a bad game Baldur's Gate 3 has proven me wrong on this point.
Their name is literally Game Mill. Their job is to push out as many games as possible. Just like a puppy mill.
Matty, I have to disagree with you on your #1 The day Before is EASILY the worst game of this year. Everything from the conception to the developer straight up dipping out once they have been called out. The fact that you did not mention this game in your list kinda baffles me.
Regarding golum, the games industry, much like modern cinema, is made of contractors, a lot of the teams are made of people jumping from project to project with little investment on the material. If they worked on a bad game or not is irrelevant to them or who's hiring.
Didn’t get starfield for Christmas, but I did get Atomic Heart so I’m thankful. I’m sure I’ll have a better time with the latter anyways. Say what you will about the game being on your top 10 worst. It’s still better than the other 7 games after that one and the things you speak of don’t really affect me in gaming to that level. And if it does, simple solution, Russian native dialogue problem solved on that front.
You need to play weird west!! Just finished it and loved!
You’re a Rangers fan but wear an Oilers hat and you’re Canadian, so confusing but hey i’m a big fan of your channel lol
Atomic heart had sexy robots tho.
There’s no way Atomic Heart is on this list. Smh wow
2023 was wild. We got so many amazing games but also so many god awful ones.
It was simultaneously a fantastic and horrible year for games.
They're called Game Mill for a reason. They take properties and grind them down into garbage
The Modern Warfare 3 one still baffles me. How do you fuck up copying over a campaign from 12 years ago?
Atomic heart and Forspoken >>>>>starfield
As a huge Storm fan, Connections felt like such a massive disappointment to me after all those years
I felt the same way about annoying protagonists in Spider-Man PS4. I actually had to mute the character audio and turn off subtitles in the settings because Yuri Lowenthal (and the writing) was so insufferable.
I really enjoyed forspoken and atomic hearts I'm sad 2 new ip couldn't get a foothold. Loved atlas fallen and immortals of aveum as well. I know I know I'm off my rocker
To talk about games with bad writing and not even mentioning Starfields mediocre story and dialogue lol.
Hey MJ, chin up!
You have to remember that this is the same guy that listed Fallout 4 as "A Near Perfect RPG" when it first came out.
His words, not mine.
Most people that dislike Starfield are people salty at the game being an Xbox exclusive.
please enlighten us with examples and explanations why said examples are "bad wiritng"
which he apologized walked back and acknowledged, your point? and even then it was his opinion@@utisti4976
Kind of surprised that “The Day Before” didn’t top that list. 🤣
Haven’t finished the list. If Atomic Heart is 8, Starfield is surely further down the list, right? Right??
Atomic Heart and Starfield are better than a mobile game touted as AAA called Zelda BOTW 2
i feel like the most hilariously tragic thing about Skull Island: Rise of Kong, is that its basically a TV Show Tie-In game. Netflix put out a Kong show this year called "Skull Island" back in June, and apparently its been received pretty well critically. But this game released 3 months later, and was SO huge of a flop, that it literally distracted people from the show, and removed any chance it had of being in the conversation this year, because of how bad the game was.
How badly I had wished we had gotten Shadow of Third instead of Gollum. Give the license back to Monolith.
Forespoken is definitely an underrated game. It's super cheap so people try it out it's cheap. Up the difficulty and have fun traversing the world. It pushes you to experiment. Will be a hidden gem years from now.
It's a hidden trash under a trash game
This is a perfect example of ones mans trash is another mans treasure. The game is objectively trash but there is always that one person out there that will somehow find enjoyment in it.
@@Antares-rt5ub There must be some Gollum fans
Crispy Critters! How did Atomic Heart make this list!?!
Atomic heart? Poor young child . . .
Starfield not being somewhere on here is a crime 😂. I hate to see what bethesda is doing (primarily writing wise emil sucks!) fallout is likely ruined because of it tough times ahead
I personally dont think Deathloop was that good myself. It was very mediocre imo
There's nothing impressive about pumping about a garbage game in a year when masterpieces like halo 2 and kotor 2 were made in similar time frames.
I hope the banana colored beanie was not a fashion statement.
Surely Starfield has to be on the list of one of the worst games of the year
😂
I always liked Yahtzee's top 5 blandest category.
At a guess, writing for video games is probably the lowest paid and crummiest of any artistic writing job. We are probably getting what these companies pay for.
It's weird. Gaming is by the far the biggest entertainment industry dwarfing all others combines. I guess legacy media is dead in general. Certainly all the huge content creators are/were gaming channels too, pewdiepie, moist, xqc, sssniperwolf, etc.,
2023 was the alpha and the omega of video games. So many great games, just as many terrible ones.
Man. Redfall. What could've been
Starfield wasnt the worst game in 2023, but it was very mediocre. I was very disapointed.
Personally I'd add Starfield to that list. It's for sure top 3 worst released of 2023 and probably top 10 worst all time.
Explain
I feel like a lot of people picked on Forspoken this year tbh. It wasn't that bad there were worse games than Forspoken tbh. I feel Crime Boss: Rockay City was so bad this year. it was 0/10 for me personally.
Love the ps5 box art in a 'worst games of the year'video lol
That Division clone game was so bad it got removed lmao
Starfield is up there for me
I absolutely loved Atomic Heart. But I agree that the protagonist was annoying. I’m curious if it was due to a bad translation thing. Like who in the world says “crispy critters”??
