- Ever fancied building floating structures in ARK? Well here's 4 ways you can do just that!
00:13 METHOD 1 - VERTICALLY OFFSET FENCE FOUNDATION
Discovered this one a long time ago as you can see here / 880918932554735616 but never really showed it off in a video. It's main limitation that I forgot to mention in the video is that it has a height restriction of about 2.6 walls from floor level. 02:07 METHOD 3 - PLATFORM SUPPORT
Worked this out after someone on Reddit called Despair-Envy gave me some hints and showed me an interesting screenshot imgur.com/a/sA.... So I definitely wasn't the first person to play around with this kind of stuff but as far as I am aware nobody has shown it in a video yet. And will still result in a devwipe I assume, eventhough it is going to collapse as soon as any part is destroyed, so hardly OP.
@@dimwalker I wouldn't suggest using any of the methods on PvP, you could get dev wiped and the structures are unstable. Should be fine on PvE though.

I have a theory about the spinning propellor. Maybe it's originally attached to a aquatic platform saddle, with the tame caged in and set to wander.

Aye, I'm wondering the same thing. Will probably do a video on placing structures at weird angles next which will explain how I built the circle, but I don't plan on ever actually building one again, especially not for a tutorial, it was a nightmare!

To be honest these floating structures may be a godsend vs the meshing that Wildcard can't fix, and shouldn't be a dev wipe if you ask me. A floating structure inherently has less turret coverage density as it is defending 6 sides necessarily compared to 1-5 on conventional structures. The only big advantage is that it can defend from below, which makes it perfectly suited to counter meshing.

Alex Walter the thing is any real counter to meshing is bannable sadly
not to mention it's their game mechanics. If bulding wasn't so flicted people wouldn't has such a need for figuring out ways to do things.
If this was allowed on pvp i would build a 200 by 200 sky base and block out the sun

@@missyprime8198 Hehe, thanks. It was an actual circle on its side, not a hexagon. I won't be doing a video specifically on that shape but I will do one on placing structures at different angles. That should open up a lot of possibilities!
Question: I built a set of foundations on top of a sandstone arch going over a river. I use a pillar on the center foundation, then extended downward with 5 large pillars. I used ceiling to build off of the bottom of the last pillar, (approx 8x8). The larger the foundations I setup on top of the archway, the larger the I could build the ceiling platform. I've now built several buildings off the central pillar by adding additional large pillars. I now have a base dangling in the air over the river. Now the question, will the entire thing come crashing down if I remove the central supporting pillars? Obviously , I'm on my own server since someone could easily destroy my base by destroying the foundations on top of the archway.

While the actual usage is negligible for me (I play on PVP servers and these constructs are very fragile), I really did like the concept and especially the editing.

I tried the method starts at 4:05 in Fjordur map it didn't work the part of metal ceiling should remain. I did the fence foundation by looking at the edge of ceiling, switching the thatch ceiling into metal, snapping 2nd fence at 90 degree angle, then when i remove the wall holding the metal ceiling, the ceiling collapse while the 2nd fence remaing on air.
Any other solution for that, since i'm trying to build sky level?
There's an easier way to do it now without a platform. You need to build up to the height, build your structure having it connected by just one ceiling, then replace that ceiling with a giant hatchframe. It's a bit tricky to explain, but there might be a video on it somewhere.

Hey, as usual your work is awesome lol you literally make ark fun for me by trying to learn new ways to build. of course i cant figure stuff out very well so its mostly fails and frustration but its still fun when something works out through experimentation XD. anyway a while back i asked if it was possible to make a zen arched bridge like you'd see in a garden or somethin going over a creek or.. whatever lol. I was just wondering if you ever made any headway on that since half of it was like your stairs video and it looks like you could do it with your stairs in the castle video but oh damn those stairs looked complex to make lol. anyways keep up the good work. you're awesome :)

This is amazing! Quick question though for method 3 does it work like the raft where I can just move the quetz to extend my foundation or am I stuck with the 3 by 3?
Yes, you can move the quetz around to extend it, but if anything gets demolished, any bit's that are not supported will fall.
I'm trying to do method #2 and it isn't working. How did you get extended so far horizontally before attaching the pillar that you ultimately disconnect? I've set mine up with pillars topped with ceilings underneath the walkway like it appears in the video, but I still can't extend past 2 ceilings away from the original foundation. I should mention that my pillars extend very high (30+) above the foundation before I top them with a ceiling. Am I too high away from the foundation?
Hi, sorry for the late response. I should have probably showed that you still need other temporary pillars to get them out that far. The height shouldn't be an issue I don't think.
Btw If you do this on official servers you could get dev wiped as its in the ark code of conduct

Does the second method work? I destroyed the lower foundations and part of the structure is gone now.
Im going to explain what i just did, i put a row of pillars with ceilings on top(part is on a cliff and some are at the same height as the clif but raise by pillars) then i started placing wooden pillars and thatch ceilings on the ground. I conected them at the end with wooden pillars, i destroyed the connection and all was great, but then i started deleting the thatch and wood stuff and the metal platform started collapsing. What did I did wrong?

any word on if one can create floating structures disconnected from each other where as if one was to demo one structure the other - some odd foundation spaces away - would drop?
forward thinking on the tek alarm and pressure plate................ alarm triggers a raptor pen to open - raptor argos enemy - runs over pressure plate, pressure plate triggers a dodo pen to open, dodo walks through tripwire explosive and down comes turret wall/tower floating protection. so odd foundation space away from base - flank defense activated - no retreat .....theoretically ?
Ye, I'm pretty certain some of these techniques could be used to do that. I'm really looking forward to the new Genesis structures, will open up a lot of possibilities.

Fence foundations have never given foundation support. Fence supports are the ones they have messed up!

a building on the end, but nothing else supporting it.
Looks like a metal tree, with houses on the outer end of the branches.

Not nearly as impressive, but I'm just a beginner.
I built a badass base hanging from that round circle dome thing up north in Ragnarok, suspended from pillars underneath the structure and then covered them with stone foundations to protect them from the top. The long ladder to the hatchframe meant no one could use tools on the door as they were holding onto it he ladder. I'd find bodies on the ground all the time form people who tried lol. Then last night I was chilling inside my base way up high when suddenly everything exploded all around me and smashed to the ground. Respawned to see two fuckfaces lobbing explosives, not a trace left. 🤷🏼♂️

Well, it does if you take it up higher. A raft is limited to being near the water, dinos can go anywhere.

Which method would be best to use if I wanted the platform to start at 3 walls high? I’m creating a floating platform that is suspended within a base, but the fence foundation seem to only work when walls are 2 high only 😞
If you can get away with like 2.8 walls high you can use a fence foundation. Just need to do some lowering to get it.
@@captainfatdog sounds intriguing. I found a crop plot method that would increase the hight by 5 crop plots (you put them on the ceiling of two walls high, then use the fence foundation technique as normal) but that seems to have been patched as I couldn’t get it to work. I could definitely go for 2.8 high; how do you lower? I’ve joined the discord under Avadale by the way, not sure if easier to talk there :)
