- Tired of the unloading process after Quetzal farming metal? Here is a simple solution. With just a few structures you can build a metal unloading station that makes the process of unloading metal from your Ankylo into the industrial forge not only easier but much, much quicker! You can even incorporate the design straight into your base.

Originally, this build was going to be a cool looking octagonal funnel as you can see here: twitter.com/captain_fatdog/status/879448525620338688 but then I realised the boxes are thrown in whatever direction the camera is facing which meant there wasn't much point in it being a funnel so I ended up just making this simple structure. Hope it helps :)

I just want to let you know that this build has been extremely useful and efficient, I have used it in every map I played in and unloaded at least 100k+ metal easily using your build. My favorite was the raft build I made with this built into it on The Island! Thanks for this genius build, cheers!

This build makes use of a mechanic I didn't even know was in the game. Trying to move stuff directly from your dino to any storage bin is limited by your weight as the game only lets you carry so much. But picking it up off the ground like that lets you go over your normal limit? That's extremely handy to know for when unloading lots of things, just make those collection spots next to the item that needs filling and drop it all in.
Yeah, it's exactly as you said, it allows you to go beyond the normal limits, its a pretty useful trick

Just started up on single player due to other commitment not got time for online at the min... and I wish I found your channel sooner
This is probably the one video that got me into following you. The video is great and the concept of making a tunnel-like structure to dump resourcess into it is awesome. I don't use it for metal since you can simply transfer to a bed right next to the forge. Still, i use it for stone grinding and wood burning. The shaft is deep enough to face the forge but not all the way to the bottom. There i dump wood straight into the forge or whip stone into a chem bench beside the shaft. After this video i started building my bases around the crafting station. Strategically placing everything so I can encumber myself and still move things around and craft. I'll screenshot it and tweet them to you later. You have indeed put up some great, inspiring and problem-solving content.

If you attempt to transfer to another server with your inventory full, lets say from the Island to Extinction, once you get to the map you exit the game without spawning in a bed or spawn point. Join the first server again, download your character (cause you are in the ark and not in any map) and spawn in a bed with your inventory full. Works great to move metal from blue to your forge without the need of flying.

Blue u know what and argy pen is right I basically just build one of those for it
Use fence foundations and make a 1x2 box. Have a doorway with a door as well, or leave it empty with a wall and have the doorway with a door already in place. Kite the dino in to the pen, run out and close the door/place the final wall. Now you can drag fish to it and it will not go anywhere. You could always knock it out first and then box it in, that is what I did for a pegomastax.
I was always surprised more people didn't do this, been doing this for a while xD
From some of the comments I have had on this video it seems that for some reason people would actually rather struggle! They say, 'why bother wasting recourses on making this?' 😆

I really like this build, the only thing I would suggest is when you jump down use a whip and you can pick it all up in one go.

This idea is amazing, all I had was a little stone structure with a industrial forge and I had to waste valuable resources on a Dino gate for my anky. Now I can just do this and have metal in bulk!
This is awesome! Also if you click the "drop all" option it'll move everything over in one backpack instead of dropping them all individually (similar to transfer all) so there's less extra clicking :) Thanks for the idea!
Thanks! Unfortunately it doesn't work to just put it in the backpack because you can't encumber yourself to the extreme like you can when picking up boxes off the floor.

@Fatdog. another idea is have the forge in the back of the house and have a door right on it. Not 2 go inside just a access point for unloading. Aaron Longstaff workshop video.
The problem with that is you keep having to switch between the ankylo and forge inventories because the metal is too heavy to take out all at once. Picking up boxes is the only way to go beyond the normal carry limits.

Cool but.. Can't you just drop your anky right next to the indi, transfere all the metal to ur inventory at the same time and then all at the same time into theindi right beside you?
Or was this perhaps something you couldn't do 4 years ago?
Unless you are on a weight boosted server you are limited as to how much you can transfer into your inventory.

Second, would it be any easier with a whip? instead of using a funnel that costs resources, just drop everything within whip range then do it up!
Cheers dude! Yes, a whip certainly helps. But even if you do have a whip, if you want the forge inside your base and don't have behemoth gates on it, you need something like this to get the metal inside.
Would it help in any way to have this funnel on the top of the base somewhere that drops down? It just seems impractical to try and implement this funnel in a PvP build....
@captain fatdog : Forge inside and no behemoth gates, juste regular ones, you don't NEED a package drop to do the trick, it's simply one solution that works. Having multiple windowed access in a fully closed off forge chamber with keypad access works just as well.
@Little eagle : well you need to be able to drop down yourself without dying, or it'll despawn before you reach it.
But the purpose of doing the package drop is so that you can encumber yourself well beyond the normal limits. That way you don't need to keep going between the Ankylo and forge inventories. In my experience (provided your character doesn't have crazy weight stats) this is the fastest method. I have a solution for getting down quick: twitter.com/captain_fatdog/status/880625525164843009
But why cant I just drop the anky on the ground next to the forge and than drop it to the forge and pick it up why do I have to have the anky higher on a metal structure and drop the metal down?
For a start, it can be tricky dropping the anky in the right place. Then it's tricky to drop the boxes without them going all over the place. If you have a whip to pick them up you might get away with it but it's honestly so much easier to just build something like this.

What’s the point of this compared to just parking next to it or dropping off the Anky next to the forge?
On official you won't have enough carry weight to get it all out in 1 go. You can drop it next to a forge but I think it's smarter to thow it down a tube.
We usually popcorn the metal and then whip it up. This is really nice though, because it contains the metal. I always have trouble keeping it from going everywhere =n= not to mention, silk is a pain to get depending on what map you're playing.
Thanks, I love to use a whip but like you say it can be a pain to get if you're on a map without silk which is why I wanted show that you can still do it without.

Anyone know how expensive this is to make out of metal.
Very creative and effective but what if I were to disconnect not only disconnect to main menu but the actual dashboard which is pretty common on console that would be a risky move considering the fact that When you drop stuff it has like a minute timer before it despawns

Very interesting and creative concept, but with the constant micro lags when using platforms on official, the anky NEVER falls where it's meant to :(
I don't think that's due to lag, I think they changed the position it drops the anky, I've not tested it properly yet though.

Well, just dropping stuff when still on platform works very well, I tested. Just have to aim correctly, and you don't even need to take the anky down, directly ready for a new run !!! Dude I was dreaming for a solution like yours since the first day I farm on a quetz platform :) Awsome vids man !

You can't, it wont allow you to take that amount of metal out of an inventory, it's too heavy. The only way you can become encumbered to such an extreme is by picking it up in boxes.

I've not got round to testing it yet. I imagine the concept would still work but would need a bit of modification maybe.
You dont have to do that at all, all you have to do is tipe metal in your iventory search and transfer all the items in that folder. (Not trying to be rude, I especially know how it feels since I play ps4)
The issue is that on official server you don't have enough weight to transfer so much weight like that. You need to keep doing it multiple times as you can see in the intro.

You can't transfer all because of your characters weight limitations. You can't pick up all out of a bag because of your characters weight limitations. The only way to get around it is to drop boxes then pick them up. You can use a whip to pick them up quicker.

you dont need an unloading station you could just drop it in front of your forge instead of building the metal structure
Makes it a lot easier though! The forge costs way, way more than the metal structures, also they don't need to be metal, you could build it out of stone or whatever.

Come on guys it's all a matter of preference which way you optimise your resources transfer, right ? This one is quite well thought for its purpouse.
Devon Soccer dropping the ankylo close enough to the forge might be tedious for some people. It might not be close enough to the forge to where when you take the metal, you're unable to reach the forge and you're overweight and you can't put it back in the ankylo.... this has happened to me so many times lol
