  • Following on from lesson 10 we now look at hollow lofts between profiles in FreeCAD Part Design WB, how to create them, best practices and fixing a common issue that can occur. We will look how to loft through sketcher sketches, part feature faces and combining hollow lofts with solid lofts. We will also look at multiple voids within lofts.

Thanks so much for this video.
I have watched several videos on lofts and have not been able to get one to work until now.
I would always get lost on other videos but not with your vid.
You explained it very well and your pace was very easy to keep up with to follow along.

@@MangoJellySolutions perfect balance, maybe an enhanced mouse pointer, or enlarged tool icons somewhere on the side when you click them could be an addition to think about?

I just found the tool I was thinking of to split a sketch into pieces. On the sketcher the command is called "split edge into while preserving constraints (T,S).

I really appreciate your putting these videos together. I pick up so many details on workflow that hadn't occurred to me (just didn't think about it) such as the difference between attachment and position. Very well thought out tutorials. When you split the circles into 4 pieces, is there a tool that would have split the line instead?

Thank you for that. I love 3D and have always enjoyed teaching it. I used to use commercial based packages but I hit a wall when the cloud base subscription model came in and people like myself on low incomes couldn't afford to use it anymore. I saw people give up just because of that alone. One of my goal is to raise awareness of opensource alternatives. That way they can pay the rent and carrying on with what they love . Just saw your other post regarding finding the tool you need. Thanks for adding that as the comments help others as well. Sorry for late reply, trying to get through a back log.

Great tutorial, thank you :) Any updates on the inner vs outer contour crossover thing on lofts? Only workaround I know for re-organizing the sketch (e.g. when inner contour was created first and needs to be sent to the bottom of the geometry list) is to select all inner geometry, use "Sketcher tools > Copy" command/button to the side, delete the old inner geometry and moving the new stuff back where it originally was. Still doesn't catch every constrains, though

Thank you glad you enjoyed. No update as of yet. I don't think this is down to freecad but the cad engine that is under the hood which freecad is built upon.

Thanks for a good video. I now understand lofting a lot better. However about 2/3 of the way through yu get a loft to go through 90 degrees but you don't explain how you generate the 3 sketches they are just there and you loft them. Could you explain exactly what you do to get the 3 sketches so they go through the 90 degrees? I have been trying for a few hours without success.

Yes I see where you mean. This is a follow on video from lesson 10 in which I explain how to position the sketches for lofting. This would answer the questions you have. I should of included that step in this video, apologies. It's in video ruclips.net/video/BDq0LVYKXKQ/видео.html around 2 to 3 minutes in. Glad these videos are helping you
