@@RobTrek I agree the Olympus is for sure holding it's own against the Fuji and the wobbly backgrounds even after using post stabilisation shows clearly. Both show they take great images and everything can be achieved in post for photo's that leaves video, you're the expert here so I leave that to you Rob. Great video, has put a stop to me wanting to handle a Fuji especially as their lenses are mostly so much heavier and larger. Maybe it's time to try out a full frame camera?
If one has to pixel peep and do a 500% crop to look for differences, that’s enough reason not to spend 3 times more on fuji (body and lenses). You can easily assemble a used olympus kit on ebay for under $1000 (em10/2+17/1.8+25/1.8+45/1.8+40-150) and some change left for extra batteries, bag, external flash etc.
I used to be really fascinated by Fuji not so much anymore, they seem to lack a lot of technology and I don’t see the spectacular color difference they seem to be known for. I really need a a backup camera and the em10 fits the bill. My 3 month old Panasonic G9 started draining batteries even when off when I did the last update a few weeks ago and I’m hoping this big new update on the 19th will solve the issue otherwise no camera probably for a month or so.
I'm a little disappointed the Fujfifilm colors were not more distinct. It's still early in my ownership, but it doesn't stand out to me in any particular way. Interesting about your G9. Is this a problem experienced by other G9 owners? Is it rare or a little more common?
Rob Trek I googled about it and could not find a single person having that issue. But it seems it was a common issue in the GH5 but resolved with a firmware update.
Wow Rob that's not nice to kill the fuji hype 😁. Where is the «superior image quality» or «best jpeg colors » ? The natural profile is really superb on the olympus. Clean, deep but not oversaturated colors. The monochrome is nice but the Pen-f is the king for that IMO.
Yes, people need to really stop hyping any color science over another. It's all very subjective and any differences are easily corrected in post. I still have other Olympus cameras to compare since the em10ii tends to shift the colors warmer.
It seems odd comparing a standard profile on the Olympus (natural) to a saturated color profile on the Fujifilm (Velvia). Why not use standard profiles on both, or saturated profiles on both?
In my last vlog I compared Natural to Provia and Mono to Mono. It's still early in my ownership of the Fuji, but trying everything. I plan on doing going out more and shoot in different lighting with different subjects. I find I prefer different color profiles depending on conditions.
Valdis Krebs funny. Me too. I was really eyeing some Fuji camera because of the internet hype. But with this video I see that I’m not missing out much at all
Except if you going to low light , a stop better shadow recovery more dynamic range, , a bit more easy to get a bit shallower D.O.F , and Fuji output. I shoot both including GFX and have no any need for FF camera.
@eagleeye photo - no question the low light performance is superior. My last vlog where I did some night photography clearly showed this. It's not a deal breaker for the way I shoot, but others may need to consider this.
@Chris Hanson - I will take my PenF out next and compare to the xt30. I love the PenF and I don't think it shifts auto WB to warm like the em10ii does.
Quick question, under the G menu, do you have "Keep Warm Color" on or off? Seems like Olympus has warmer tones and wondered that. Same that I'm seeing here in this video, I've been very pleased by how good the Olympus colors have been.
The colours of the em10 were a bit more reddish, magenta to me, whereas Fuji looked less saturated and cooler. In b/w a little more contrast in the Oly. It’s just a matter of preference. I do not get all the Fuji hype. I mean they are good camera’s but every camera on the market is good these days. Anyway, you got some nice shots there, Rob.
Thanks. The em10 tends to shift reddish even compared to my other Olympus cameras. When I try to color correct, particularly the WB, it gets much closer but you can still see the differences.
It’s interesting. Both are a bit different but pleasing. When I had picked up a Sony 6300 a few years back I compared colors and I found them tending towards over-saturating the reds and yellows. This was very noticeable in faces The fujifilm are different but pleasing
3+ years ago I compared the xt10 vs the em10ii. I went with the em10ii that I'm using in this video! Even today I prefer the em10ii over the xt10 for this kind of shooting.
I really enjoy your channel, it is so nice to watch, it is funny I had Olympus camera and I did not like this warm tone on photos which I can see on your photos too, but monotone is great on Olympus
I’ve found Fuji is best set to auto ISO. ACROS is beautiful at ISO 2000 yes 2000. I use both Olympus and Fuji. I love the shadow tones you get with Fuji too especially for street photography. Using my XT2 is so different to my EM1ii. I enjoy the challenge of using both.
Surprisingly I preferred the Olympus colors... I’ve owned an XT-3 and it’s great but I like Olymous colors better. I just ordered a refurbed EM10 II for super cheap as my B camera.
perry valton The Fuji colours are definitely more richer and contrast in body image stabilisation is not that important to me it is not valid reason for me to purchase camera. You can definitely see the Fuji sensor does attract more light than mft.
The monochrome is very subtle but the color side is mainly a white balance difference. The auto WB seems calibrated to shift warm on the Olympus vs cooler on the Fujifilm.
@@RobTrek AChris is very correct about the Velvia keeping the sky blue. This is why I shoot Raw, the difference you show is interesting as you are essentially doing a kind of post image effect by applying a filter for the jpegs. I like to control the output of each image separately to get what I want from my captures, maybe because I'm less trusting of internal image processing. I've already seen that Olympus out of the box images are poor and that to get the best, you need to "tweek" settings in order for it to deliver exceptional image quality ( a note to Olympus marketing, what on earth were you thinking by delivering out of the box poor image quality from the start? Really?)
@@arthurrmcphee4885 It's rare I use the images straight out of camera anymore. I always have tweaks in-camera to give the images more punch. I'm usually pretty content with the auto-wb, but sometimes I have to tweak that too.
It seems to me there is no winner. Cameras are all good these days so it comes down to whichever camera the user feels better using. Now, this photowalk were all static subjects. I’d be curious to see a more challenging autofocus situation.
I'm still early in my ownership of the xt30, so can't really give a valid opinion. As for 1st impressions, well at twice the cost of an em10ii, not really worth it for this kind of static subject photowalk. The xt30 has probably a huge continuous autofocus tracking advantage that I will have to try among other advances since the em10ii came out.
Yes, I had a whole day's testing of the XT-2 last year (loan from Fuji) and concluded that there's just too much hype about Fuji cameras and their 'colour science', whatever that means. I was very disappointed at the lack of IBIS and even their stabilised lenses were not great for image stabilisation too when I was shooting indoors in Camden Market and Covent Garden. I ended up buying the E-M10 Mk ii which saved me around £2,000 from having to switch camera systems and have not regretted it.
its kinda funny - when you put it side by side like this it's almost like the Olympus has better colour than the fuji.
It's definitely holding it's own in my opinion. Of course it's all subjective, and this was a general photowalk with inanimate subjects.

I saw its about a tie. The look different but one is not better then the other. Its a hard call.
The differences are more apparent when looking at them on the computer rather than in this video. That said, it's still very subtle.
Olympus monochrome has more contrast. Velvia keeps the sky more blue. Interesting

Agreed. In an autofocus test, the Fuji will kill the em10 based on what I've seen done by others.
Yes I imagine the AF on the E-M5 3 will be a more fair comparison of AF.
I like the cannon shots, especially in B&W.
Thanks.
Rob, why does Fuji render more blue in sky?
It's mainly a white balance issue. Fuji tends to be cooler and the EM10ii tends to be warmer, even compared to my other Olympus cameras.
Also because the Fujifilm was set to Velvia. (Vivid) more saturation and contrast.
Olympus was set to Natural.
What lens on the Olympus?
Using the 14-42mm R kit lens.
The Fuji seems to have more dynamic range.
Maybe slightly. I didn't really test for that but I do see a bit more highlight detail in the Fuji.
You should use your 12-40 2.8 to be fair
It might help, but I don't like taking that lens out much.
@@RobTrek The 12-40 is still slightly lighter than the fuji 18-55. So both will have similar setups
