What Japanese Dinner is Like (Nabe)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 мар 2016
- Nabe (鍋物) is simply the name of the dish (cooking pot), so when you have nabe, there really could be anything in it. If you're from a country that has stews and soups in the winter time, this is the Japanese equivalent.

I am absolutely in love with Japanese culture.
Honestly I need to live there when I grow up. It seems better to me then living in the us tbh imo
@@fruit4evr well, you also have to consider japan's highly pressured society. It's not all healthy food and good manners. That culture also has a "downside".

Honestly, everytime I watch these videos I get more and more impressed with this family and their parenting. Completely great people.
Haha, I think I'll try some advance question answering:
1. I totally lied, every Japanese meal doesn't have rice. It's a bit of a joke in our family. Mummy panics if there's not rice in the rice cooker. We don't eat rice at every meal, but it's pretty rare that someone in our family doesn't eat rice at least once a day.
2. Aiko was sick that day (as seen at the end of the video), so we didn't do much talking while filming that day. I normally wouldn't have filmed (we only film if the kids want to), but her great Uncle and Aunt had put together the meal for us just so we could film it, so we didn't want to waste the opportunity.
3. I did the subtitles in English, but left out a few spots where I didn't quite know how to translate correctly. I'll try to get it sorted when mummy comes home tonight. If you want to sub in other languages, please be my guest :-)
4. Oops, forgot this one! Yes, mummy doesn't like to show her face. That's just how she is. Nothing more than that :-)
+Life Where I'm From Lmao it's the same thing with us Lao people. We joke around saying we eat rice at every meal but in reality we don't. I freak out when there's no rice in the rice cooker so i make it. I feel it 100.
This video is making me hungry 😃
+Life Where I'm From
Please remind MrsMom she must leave video memories of her existance for all future generations.... even the smallest fish in a pond must leave a ripple...old eastern saying from the west ??
+Life Where I'm From - My wife is the same way. In our family, it might not be in every meal, but it is definitely in at least one (usually two) of the three meals that we have in a day.
Here in the Philippines, we literally couldn't eat without rice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner..sometimes, we also eat rice with our snacks. Yes, we eat everything with rice 😂
Thank you. This channel inspires me so much! I used to be a lazy girl, that would talk back to her mother. Ingredients in order of footage:
White rice
Mizuna (water greens/mustard greens)
Shitake mushrooms
Tofu
Cod
Maitake mushrooms
mackerel
Green onion
Enoki mushrooms
Shungiku (crown daisy)
Kombu(kelp) for broth
Yuzu ponzu (tangy soy sauce)
Guesstimate recipe:
Boil kombu
Add cod first
Then medium/firm tofu
Then shitake- maitake- enoki mushrooms
Then green onions
After boiling more, add shungiku
Let simmer more
Yuzu ponzu (citrusy soy sauce)
Pour approx. 3 teaspoons, or 1 table spoon soy sauce into soup bowls
In the video:
Add tofu to soup bowls first
Then shungiku
Then cod (and the rest of what was boiling, but not the water)
Roasted mackerel goes well with white rice with soy sauce
This soup is best fresh so feel free to only use as much ingredients as you think you and your guests will have.
If you have more ingredients after and want more, add them to the same pot and bring it back to boil.
that's more ingredients than what i use in one week hahah
No offence but “Who asked”
Techedapy idk it just could be useful for someone :)
That's great, thank you for this! Btw. do you happen to know, why they don't eat the broth? With all the ingredients it would be shame to just dispose of it 😄

So cool that those little kids can speak both Japanese and English pretty well at such a young age. Both are fairly complicated languages.
well they lived in Canada before.
English is far from complicated
English isn't that hard to write, but is hard to pronunce. If you're a foreigner the accent is still here, most of the time. For example Italian is way easier, foreign accent is way less common.
@@alicesacco9329 For children, their little brains are like sponges that soak up language and learn it almost without trying. Adults have an incredibly more difficult time. I think its awesome that the the children are learning two (very differently structured) languages when they have the chance for it to come more naturally.
@@arthrodea I wasn't talking about that. And anyway isn't always true.
As child, I took 3 years to learn/understand my mother language, and as adult I took equally three years to learn/understand English.

Asian people usually have more than 2 kind of dishes plus rice in every meal. So we share the meat, the veggies, the soup, the tofu / dumpling/fried thing.

Our Dinner consisted of homemade Bagels with Tuna mayonnaise and tomato salad today.
We mostly eat bread for dinner here in germany but I usually get really tired of it since it's boring and just nothing special anymore, so we often just cook something in the evening or spice it up with salads.
I loved to watch your familiy having dinner. It looked so cozy, lovely and extremely tasty!
Your channel is great and I love japanese food and culture! Xx
Thanks for the video, it’s really interesting and enjoyable to see a happy family prepare and eat a meal together.
I know this is an older video, but in Mexico we always have beans and orange rice as side dishes for basically every meal. If not both, then at least one of the dishes. For example, this morning I had eggs, beans, salsa, and tortillas. For lunch, I had orange rice, beans, nopales (cactus), salsa and tortillas. For dinner, I had orange rice, beans, salsa, steak and tortillas. Tortillas are like our edible utensils :)
To late but do you eat salsa for every meal 🤔
+Alnoori-9 Q8 yes, well my family does
+Danke Schoen actually I have never tasted salsa before
+Alnoori-9 Q8 lol that's why I said my family does. I'm not trying to generalize other Mexicans. We all have our dislikes. I guess it depends on the salsa, some I love and others I don't like. Depends on how it's made and the types of peppers/chillis that are used
my dinner is... hmm what do i eat? do i even eat? i have'nt thought about that for the past 5 years, I need a life.

It's actually not a roaster. It's a broiler...
Also, what kind of technology is that when they have to use a camping stove. They don't even have a regular stove or oven. And that kitchen was a damn mess, handling equipment after touching raw fish without washing hands... What a mess. Ick

Did i hear Bombay gas stove ?
Bombay is a big city in India
Bombay is a vegie in Indonesia, used for flavor. Off topic? Yep. ( I'm off topic, not the main comment )
What an adorable family!!!
omg...I wonder how the taste is like without any spices...
I've noticed that also
It has to be a bit bland, but then again, the broth had kelp in it and the flavors from veggies, mushrooms and fish must have added something to the overall flavor. They also had that sauce in their bowls. The Japanese don't seem to use spices that much.
that's why they have condiments and sauce also the broth is simmering with konbu it's not really bland but once the all flavors are packed in the broth the broth will be delicious. also the fish was not frozen so it still has all the flavors intact
I believe the flavor for their meal was savory. Not too salty just right. Makes me feel disgusted with myself for wanting a taco right now lol
Not Japanese, but Chinese and we have something very similar. The soup is actually rather flavourful from all the vegetables, mushrooms, and meat. We just add sauces for extra flavour but it won't be too bland on its own.
I'm studying Japanese on my own and stumbled upon your channel which I have been been binge watching from the start. Aiko inspired me when I heard her talk in Japanese and she can even read Kanji! Hi, I'm from India and I think you are doing a great job! All the videos possess this humane quality to it ; besides from being instructive about the Japanese culture. Love that it has a specific focus on Aikko's experience as a Japanese-Canadian in Japan and just adore the spontaneity of the children. My absolute favourite is the athletic park one for some reason. I saw all the videos within the span of an hour. You two must be real great parents for your children seem cheerful, interactive, uninhibited and curious at all times. Thanks for not scolding them all the time like my oh so strict parents did! Let it be a lesson to all the parents. Give a big hug to Aikko and Shin from my side. :) I would love to see them take a calligraphy lesson or visit some cool- weird restaurants in Japan or scrap all that and make a video of activities they love to do watching that will be fun!

@@gentlemortal I mean, you are kind of part of the minority
No, that is just how kids in my town grew up. We respected our elders, and learned to take care of ourselves. The media chooses to show the bad side of American youth because the story is more interesting. It is as simple as that. Don't get me wrong I know some kids that grew up as spoiled little brats and most of them are hooked on drugs or alcohol right now, but the majority of the kids I knew grew up the same way I did.
@@gentlemortal It kind of depends on how old you are and what ethnicity is predominant in your area. Sure, there are respectful people, but the current generation is pretty toxic. This is spoken from experience, I'm not a sour adult.

Dinner is very similar to lunch here in Scotland. It depends on what is cooked or what is bought (cause we go for a lot of fast food here). But a common dinner meal is haggis - a sheep stomach stuffed with liver and kidney - which is probably served with vegetables like radish.
