    Message from Nito:
    "Hi everyone! ヽ( ´ ∇ ` )ノ
Thank you so much for watching this video and for giving me lots of fantastic heartwarming comments!🥰
Right now, I have been running the Kickstarter campaign to secure the development of my game Pull Stay.
I would really appreciate it if you check my campaign and back my 3 years long passion project.
If I can have a lot of backers, it will give me not only financial stability but also give me powerful leverage to negotiate with business people in the future, like porting to cosoles and such.
I really want to change my life with this game. Only your support can make it real. Thanks a million! ヽ(≧∀≦)ノ"

    COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
    Is Nito reading a script?
Yes. Nito wrote his answers out in English since he is not quite conversational. He uses grammarly when he writes, so he won't sound quite natural. I wanted him to speak Japanese, but he felt it was too embarrassing if Japanese people watched it.
How does Nito afford to live?
Hikikomori are usually supported by family. In Nito's case he was originally supported by his Aunt, but is currently living off his savings from Doujin sales.
How does Nito get groceries, haircuts, etc?
Nito gets delivery for groceries. He leaves once every month or two for haircuts (and presumably yearly for the doctor).
Where can I find Nito's game?
Thanks to everyone who funded his Kickstarter campaign, Nito made $34,000 in sales! We're so happy that this video gained so much traction. Thank you to the kind people who donated to make it possible for him to finish and publish his game. Below are his links

Thank you for such an interesting interview and to Nito also for participating.
I found it of note that he said he doesn’t feel lonely much. I think it’s because he is always keeping his mind occupied. He is always concentrating on his task which is a bit different than other hikikomori that I’ve seen. The other documentaries I’ve seen focus more on those who are mostly unable to take care of themselves and lack motivation to be productive. His case is a bit different.
In terms of productivity it seems like he is more productive than a lot of social people I know..

I have a friend who have been Hikikomori for about 4 Years, he never get any job or go to college in his entire life. I was helping him to find a new job but he keep refused and ignoring me. One day i started my own small business selling street food, he was my first employee.
My God, i never thought he was really good at his job and helped my business to grow bigger, he even invented half of my store menu.
He spent his time at home researching new recipe for my store. Now i owe him big time. This Hikikomori people it's not useless or lazy they just don't trust other people and sometimes push themselves too hard. I would love to hire them as my employee and friends.

Massive social anxiety or insecurity is what keep this talented people from doing what 'normal' people suppossed to do. I can say that seeking medications from psychiatrist or getting help from peers can change these people lives. Being shut in is a form of mental health issue, not "lazyness".

Lets also not forget that not everyone is born social, some people find it extremely hard to socialise, whether its a mental disability or just how their personality came to be over the years. Thats not to say that i support lazyness, but its not always the persons fault that theyre in the predicament theyre in, a lot of times these people make a genuine effort to break out of their shell, but it either takes a long time, or it unfortunately never happens, which is a darn shame @@Chadius_Thundercock

Hi im japanese. He is so much more talented than people who are concerned as HIKIKOMORI by "normal" japanese.
HIKIKOMORI we discussing(and criticizing in incredibly most of case) are people who earn to small money to live alone, of course no spouse, share the house with their parents due to they have no money.
Thus, the atmosphere in a house is dim and tense. Parents worry about their decendant, and HIKIKOMORI have a concern about future.
The case of worse, HIKIKOMORI can't do anything but sleeping and eating so totally depending on their parents, or in some case domestic violence are seen.
Moreover, the worst is the time their parents broke limit."dragger" will come home. dragger demolish the door and literally drag HIKIKOMORI out of house. Dragger promise their parents to make HIKIKOMORI suitable for japanese society. But who on earth can do so magical? In fact, some of HIKIKOMORI were found dead several monthes after.
All over the world, please remind, what you saw is light side. And inevitably, light has a shadow.

If he is cool with it….it’s fine. But often it stems from the insane pressure of social and work culture in Japan, which could put even those with normal mental health may despair, be beaten down and end up self isolating. And in a less harsh culture, many would prefer more social interactions or friendships.
The work culture in Japan is so difficult that if you graduate in a bad economic year and don’t get a job within a year of graduation, you are often shunned by the professional work force for the rest of your life, as there is a strong preference for hiring new grads only.
And even if employed, there are strict hierarchies in which more senior workers or managers are rarely questioned (ironically, Japan work places often use outdated tech like faxes and older software, as their is resistance to change). Then add in grueling work hours, a culture of public shaming for any mistakes, etc (or so say some YT videos, O don’t know personally).

He doesn't fit in the Japanese expected model of how someone should live their life, but you fit in well with Western ideals of how to live. He works hard and dreams big, he just doesn't want to do it as an employee of a company. But you can see how by he keeps a steady schedule and routine to try to improve himself, learning English and teaching himself how to program, how to draw etc he isn't looking for an easy way out. Best of luck to you Souji

I don't find this wrong, I mean he is working, eating, living his life, why do people look down on him .. he is not high or drunk, he is a functioning human being, he can still communicate with his family via phone. Tbh I have been almost like this for two years too since I was diagnosed with anxiety, but I still need to go out at least 2-3 times per weeks, just walking in the park, doing urban sketching, I am glad I can get a job as an illustration

Whats that high or drunk mention? Would your opinion change if he was? And im pretty sure he drinks himself to sleep with all the loneliness in his life.

      @nicograms 3 года назад +16

@@ShacoPL Yeah, he’s japanese, and most japanese people aren’t morons like the rest of us. Plus, the drinking himslef to sleep part doesn’t really make sense. Not everyone needs human contact to function. This was his choice, and it works. Millions of people worldwide can survive on only online contact with people to feel satisfied. I’m honestly not surprised he chose to distance himself. Most people I meet are stupid or assholes. That’s just the way it is.
