I’m guessing it’s because western countries tend to have overall happier people. A lot of East Asian countries have tons of people working too much for too little, focusing less on mental health, even though the suicide rates are sky high. Western countries focus more on well being, and fewer people live a life where you never seem to catch a break. There’s probably a reason why Scandinavia overall are some of the best countries to live in
Blep Blop well, between 2014 and 2018, japan’s suicide rate dramatically decreased from 19.5 to 16.5. in the united states it’s only increasing, from 13.4 in 2014 to 14.0 in 2017. so i would say japan is doing something right. and you mentioned scandinavia, but sweden has a fairly high suicide rate of 12-13 (seems to be fluctuating).

Back in Canada, and my memory is very fuzzy from five years ago, I'd say lasagna, perogies, and Breyers ice cream were probably some of the top stuff in our family freezer, besides things like frozen meats. What are the top three things in your freezer?
Store bought tofu isn't good here in the west. Here in Italy it's considered hippie food, but me and my family like to eat it every now and then as substitute for meat and as diet food. We always make our own. It's actually pretty easy if you have the right materials, tastes way better too
in japan kids love healthy stuff^^ in western world we usually hate brocoli as kids japanese kids usually love it and would choose da broc instead of choc
It tastes really gud tho, especially if u used to be a kid that is genuinely ok with eating vegetables and doesn’t make a fuss and act like ppl are trying to poison u by making u eat them. Like come on- they’re just crops.
not really, I'm from Thailand alot of things are pretty fresh that might also be due to the fact that I own a farm? Despite that veggies and meat are still quite fresh here...
Can I request the topic on Waste Management? I'm into Zero Waste and was amazed by Japanese on how each household doing with garbage (categorised garbage) I want to know how they do it. Hi thank you for many comments. Just FYI I actually know that Japan is not a zero waste country and actually love packaging.. (I also know a lot of japan stuff but some may not in that much detail, thank you manga for those knowledge) but the garbage categorisation is still a good example you can learn from in your household. It's kinda sad when the old Japan (after WW2) they were kinda like zero waste (yes they were) until somebody created Plastic.
Not trying to advertise another channel's stuff but here's a story on a village in Japan that does zero waste: ruclips.net/video/OS9uhASKyjA/видео.html
Right? I know!!! I went in mind blowing mode forever!!!!! I've always have tried to do that with my fingers and then it would get in them and I don't like it but now I'm thinking "how the heck haven't I thought about this???"
My country is very much like Japan in this regard, whenever I'm out of it and I go to a supermarket I think to myself: "man, these people really eat unhealthy food"
I was disappointed with the lack of affordable fruit when I was in Japan. I live in amish country so I eat tons of cheap fruit in the US and going to Japan it was just so much more expensive
JESSICA KHAN fruits are extremely good for you the reason why crops are expensive in Japan is because Japan is not an agriculture-based country it has little arable land so the supply of vegetables and fruit is low while demand is high so suppliers raise prices to compensate
I left Okinawa 2 years ago after living there as expat family from almost 4 years, I am crying watching this video😢 I am in London now, I miss Japanese frozen food
I wonder how Aiko and Shin are when they have english exams at school. They must be crushing them and students and teachers at their school must be like super impressed by them
Well they are essentially gaijin for "pure" japanese, so it's expected for them to know English well. And if they stay in Japan they will live with stigma of being "hafu" in extremely xenophobic japanese society for the rest of their lives.
We're already of that Andrei. But that's mostly stereotypes, there are changing atitudes coming in rapidly over being "hafu" and being accepted as Japanese due to athletes and celebrities
They're probably doing mediocre depending on where they're going, I've seen a lot of Japanese people that I work with who have indistinguishable accents when speaking English as if they grew up in the West, but speak Japanese and grew up in Japan and had no foreign parents. I mean they're alright but you can very quickly tell their accents lack proper annunciation.
I've been wondering recently. In the US (or at least New York), plastic packaging for snacks, instant, and frozen foods can't be recycled because they say that the plastic is lined with stuff that helps preserve the food. But in Japan, all these packaging go under the same category of "pura", for "plastic". How does Japan manage to recycle all sorts of plastic food wrappers but the US can't do it?
I'm from the Pacific Northwest region of the us. Grocery stores have big plastic recycling bins in front of them. Any kind of plastic material can be put in there. We keep a bag at home and collect plastic food wrappers to take to the grocery store. There is also local bulk food sections that help to keep down waist and buying meat from the counter instead of the frozen section helps.
@@amandagaskill7609 they can be recycled, just not in your residential bin. They have plastic bag bins at my area Giant. Idk what they're doing in NYC.
Everything seemed "fine" to Aiko ! Lol ! The kids are growing so fast !!! I remember the first video I watched from your channel was Aiko showing her house bathroom ! This video was amazing ! Thanks for acknowledging me different cultures life style, foods and more !!! Love you guys 💓💓💓
I love your videos! This types of mundane and daily-life routines and curiosities from different parts of the world are so interesting to me :) I’m specially curious about anything related to food! Also your videos are relaxing to watch :) good job! In my country, frozen wise, you’ll get lots of frozen codfish dishes, oven rice with duck or meats, full crabs filled with crab pate and the normal fast foods as well.
Everything seems like MUCH higher quality in Japan than in America. I don’t know why, but I suspect it’s because a lot of Americans just don’t seem to care much about the quality of their food. I’ve seen people eating a McDonald’s hamburger that’s been sitting under a heat lamp for hours and is all dried out and they are saying “mmmm” like it’s the greatest thing ever. Don’t get me wrong, I like McDonald’s on occasion when it’s FRESH, but when it’s all dried out it’s so nasty. In convenience stores in the U.S., I feel very lucky if I run across one with some fresh sandwiches or fruit, because most of them just have those roller hot dogs and junk food, at best. And don’t get me started on how horrible frozen meals are in the U.S. It’s very, very rare for me to find a frozen meal I really like. Some of the Boston Market frozen meals are pretty good. Stouffer’s stuffed peppers are good. A couple of the Lean Cuisine meals are decent, although they’ve recently changed my favorite Butternut Squash Ravioli and totally ruined it. It’s very frustrating. And food cost SO MUCH to prepare it fresh here.
Winter Horizon Not everybody can afford better restaurants. Besides, the point is people in Japan can get QUALITY food at conveniences stores, the frozen section, cheaper restaurants, etc. So why should Americans have to go to more expensive places to get better food? We should have decent food at affordable prices in more convenient locations, too. If other countries can do it, America should be able to.
@@tarabooartarmy3654 there are plenty of good frozen food in the states. Also I was wrong about having to spend more money to get better food. There are actually a lot of good restaurants here that are affordable and arent fast food America's advantage over japan is its diversity In japan you will only find mostly Japanese food
Winter Horizon Perhaps you and I have different ideas of what “affordable” means. In Japan, you can get an onigiri from a convenience store for about 100 yen, or about a dollar. In the USA, our comparison would be a sandwich, which in the convenience stores in my area are $2.99-$5.99, or 3-6 times the price. And I get a lot more full and stay full longer on rice/filling than I do a basic sandwich/filling. We do have some affordable choices in America, of course. For example, Burger King has 10 nuggets for $1 at the moment. But it’s not healthy. It’s empty calories for the most part. There’s no vitamins. Maybe a bit of protein at best. At least there is some nutrition in a lot of inexpensive Japanese foods.
I’m also referring more to price vs. quality, not just price. Of course we do have some inexpensive foods, but they are not as healthy as comparable Japanese options, nor are they typically nearly as high quality in the price range.
Fun video ! I used to eat those frozen meals quite often when I lived in Japan. My tiny apartment only had limited cooking facilities in a cramped space, so often meals just involved reheating frozen foods, or other foods such as salads that required minimal preparation. I laughed when you talked about the small servings of desserts and the limited calories. That presupposes you only eat one, normally I would eat at least two !!
When im studying late night I like to get cozy and make instant udon noodle with added pepper, its the best!! You could probably order some online since it's all pre-packaged ♡
Abeer unfortunately that’s true Not a week passes without this happening to me Then my throws her shoes at me And I’m like “mom come on I burning here”
I love how Aiko differentiates between real food and these frozen dishes when Greg asks if she would be able to make them herself. Like, "Do you mean real food or this frozen fakes?".
Well, the frozen ones generally have cheap fillings and stuff and little to no volume besides wheat (like pasta) or rice (like fried vice). Like, the Wontons my family make at home won't be the cheap and tiny ones you get frozen. Like we actually mix the ground pork with other ingredients, put as much filling as you want in each wonton skin...... same with every other frozen vs homemade dish we do at home.
*Their frozen foods looks like fresh and healthier than my normal foods.*

Ice cream, hot pockets, and chicken nuggets
Mämmi (traditional Finnish Easter dessert), french fries and fish fingers.

Tofu in Japan vs tofu in USA taste like 2 completely different dish
Store bought tofu isn't good here in the west.
Here in Italy it's considered hippie food, but me and my family like to eat it every now and then as substitute for meat and as diet food. We always make our own. It's actually pretty easy if you have the right materials, tastes way better too
the tofu and spinach there tastes better so...

JESSICA KHAN are u dumb
JESSICA KHAN fruits are extremely good for you the reason why crops are expensive in Japan is because Japan is not an agriculture-based country it has little arable land so the supply of vegetables and fruit is low while demand is high so suppliers raise prices to compensate

He is a trap, you foool
I wonder how Aiko and Shin are when they have english exams at school. They must be crushing them and students and teachers at their school must be like super impressed by them
They probably are haha.
Reading and writing it is probably harder for them than speaking it.
Ive never heard of that? Maryland you can recycle any plastic unless its plastic grocery bags..those cant be.
@@amandagaskill7609 they can be recycled, just not in your residential bin. They have plastic bag bins at my area Giant. Idk what they're doing in NYC.
That's so weird, in Sweden all plastics go in the same recycle bin like in Japan.

If you want quality foods in the states why are you going to cheap fast food restaurants? Maybe spend more money and go to quality restaurants
There are actually a lot of good restaurants here that are affordable and arent fast food
America's advantage over japan is its diversity
In japan you will only find mostly Japanese food
That's very true. I sometimes get onto trouble and eat more than one 😀
