40 US dollars is actually pretty cheap to me. My family & I usually spend a lot more than that at our local Japanese restaurant here in CA So interesting thanks for sharing (:
Luka Susuhara it's not as much a big deal as people make it sound. generally you slurp quietly as either compliments to the restaurant or to show it's good. but doing it loudly is quite obnoxious.
John you're seriously judging people by stereotype. You see race of person A do something and you can't assume every single person of race of person A do it.
By his comments, John is showing his own level of racism. @$$#0|3$ come in every color, religion and level of social hierarchy. I prefer to base my opinion of a person by how I see them treat the people around them.
In Canada (as I'm sure you're aware) "Family Restaurant" has many meanings ... Swiss Chalet is a mid-range rotisserie chicken place. The Keg, is a steak place, mid-range prices. Milestones, Moxies, are 'high end' places with prices to match. There are dozens of fast food places which like to consider themselves 'family' - McDonalds, Arby's, Harvey's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell/KFC, etc. etc. Then there are the mall food courts which have dozens upon dozens of places. :D
Depends what part of Canada you're in, but I think the equivalent would be places like Perkins, ABC Country, White Spot, Denny's and that sort. I don't know the popular restaurants out in the East though, so those examples may not work for you. Swiss Chalet probably also fits in the "family restaurant" category that I consider Yumean to be in. Miletsones, Moxie's, Earls, those are all higher end casual dining (in my books).
i love that i can identify the restaurants you're talking about! I live in Vancouver (I come from Mexico City) but I thought your family is from Vancouver Island?
Of all the Japanese videos I watch (and it's a LOT) I think the thing I find the most interesting is the 'no shoes' issue (i.e., no shoes in house, different shoes in bathroom, outside shoes, school shoes, etc) Here in the USA, almost without exception, restaurants usually have a sign: NO SHIRT/NO SHOES/NO SERVICE. So, for me personally, seeing somebody walk around a restaurant barefooted looks odd :)
In Poland you have to take shoes off when you come into the house and you get slippers to wear. We dont have higher/lower levels or bathroom slippers though. I live in UK now and it baffels me that ppl actually wear shoes indoors. I wear panda slippers at mine and others prefer to run around in socks.
lucy girl parents must spend a lot on shoes..in Canada we wear shoes in public unless stated e.g: an indoor children's play area in the mall. We don't wear shoes in the house and ELEMENTARY school kids MUST bring a used pair of shoes to the class and it stays under their hanger. The reason is we have rainy weather in the the fall/winter and we can only carry so many things, so if my daughter wears her boots when she is in class she can choose to change shoes, but she needs to remember to wear boots outside..its alittle of back and forth changing of shoes. The used pair of shoes is thrown out each year.

In Japan when you go to a restaurant and you slurp on your noodles or whatever you're really eating it's actually kind of like a sign of respect, as the louder you slurp the host takes it as your really enjoying you food,I mean you don't wanna let the whole restaurant hear u lol,and at Japanese restaurant's your supposed to shout(in a respectful manner OBVIOUSLY) at the waiter or waitress when you're ready to order or if u need something, when I went on vacation to Japan both of those things were really hard to get use to lol. Oh and 1 more off thing, you're not supposed tip (usually)when u eat at a restaurant!!! I did anyways and they reacted almost as if they were offended, like I was calling them poor by tipping them. So my Japanese friend told me:NO MORE TIPPING LOL 😂. ATLEAST THATS THE EXPERIENCE I HAD WHILE I WAS THERE.
I love how their food is served on different plates and bowls instead of one big plate you get to enjoy your food and you won't eat it all in one big bite it's really amazing 👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️
hello Aiko's dad just for curiosity in case of a wheelchair bound person want to visit the restaurant, are they allowed to be on their own wheelchair? or they are moved to a special wheelchair for the restaurant? I mean, people are not allowed to use shoes in the restaurant, so i think wheels are dirtier than shoes, or the staff simply make an exception?
I asked Josh (who was in our travelling with a disability video) and he said it depends on the restaurants. He usually avoids restaurants that have a genkan (that lowered entrance where you take off your shoes). He says some will have ramps they can put down.

I always call them 'suicide.' Tastes awful..
I haven't had a suicide since the 80's.
$40 for four people!? For a dinner date of two, it costs around that much, depending on where you're going and what you get!
In India, that's a dinner for 7-8 at an avg restaurant.
+nir913 Okay India you win
The kids did say that their meals would be cheaper
Kids price remember? Also I think 20-30 for 2 is doable if you just stick to 1 main dish each at many places.
my parents only pay like 20 for three of us... I live in the US
here in the southern USA, when we mix many sodas together, we call it a Suicide🤗
40 US dollars is actually pretty cheap to me. My family & I usually spend a lot more than that at our local Japanese restaurant here in CA
So interesting thanks for sharing (:
^ Americatown 😂
+abbik lol
_Roseeee my family spends around 100 to 150 dollars in restaurants in the us ㅠㅠ
_Roseeee most Japanese restaurants in the US are ripping people off, and the foods are of lesser quality too.
_Roseeee yeah, in my country, $1 is like 7 big bags of chips
glad to see little brothers are the same everywhere! mix the most outrageous drink to shock and "disgust" your sister! love your channel😊
Wishing we had restaurants like this in Canada. Great video, always enjoy watching your family.
In Japan,You Are Allowed To Slurp Because It Means You Like/Love Your Food!
Luka Susuhara it's not as much a big deal as people make it sound. generally you slurp quietly as either compliments to the restaurant or to show it's good. but doing it loudly is quite obnoxious.
I find it disgusting when people slurp anything that's not a beverage
I wish we had "real" Japanese restaurants in the states... instead of our American mucked up version.
Americans will dirty it up
chill
you cant be saying that Japanese people dont have sex or have violence
Same thing happens in japan, just not as much of a big deal
+JohnMoon Not all americans arenthe same. You shouldn't group all americans together.
You deserve 10 million subs for good content

Well dirty socks /feet are definitely cleaner than outdoor shoes, so to me the Asian way makes much more sense.
In Poland you have to take shoes off when you come into the house and you get slippers to wear. We dont have higher/lower levels or bathroom slippers though. I live in UK now and it baffels me that ppl actually wear shoes indoors. I wear panda slippers at mine and others prefer to run around in socks.
In Canada the only places you can't wear shoes I've found is houses and Dance studios but you have to wear shoes in public places
In Philippines you definitely have to wear shoes in public. But you have to remove them when you enter any house unless instructed otherwise.
lucy girl parents must spend a lot on shoes..in Canada we wear shoes in public unless stated e.g: an indoor children's play area in the mall.
Everything there is so clean. I cant wait til i move their!
1:22 that lady was so sweet❤
Man, I wish I was born and raised in Japan. People seem much more mild-mannered, respectful and courteous than most people in the United States.
2:04 you had the best translator.
Aah I am going to Japan for 2 months at the end of this month, and one of the things I cant wait to test is the food! I need to try as many restaurants as I can : )

Thank you for posting all these videos! I have always been interested in the Japanese culture and I always wanted to know how different their life’s are then mine. Since I am interested in that, I always try to find the best RUclips channels and websites to find out more about the Japanese culture. Every time I think I found a great resource. It always shows things that I already know. Then I stumbled upon your channel, This is by far the best resource I have ever found! You don’t just show one thing every video, you show things from how Japanese breakfast is made to the mall and even restaurants!! Plus you show how you say everything In Japanese! Please continue to make these videos and most importantly, Thank you!!! Just from watching your videos I already know a lot about the culture!! Thank you so much!
the menus have the kcal specified! amazing! not that usual in Spain yet....
I do like that they publish the kcal. Not every place does this though.
the waiter are seem to be soo kind than i thought
I really liked the menus at the end thank you
"And if you put it in ketchup, it's so yummy!"
**eats bean**
"Mmm, so yummy!"
if that was the US that price would have been 100 dollars or more
that why US people doesn't have much cash in hand.
thats dumb Americans who eat out everynight lol
40$ is actually pretty normal, 100$ would be like entrees for 5 people
mich elle not really when I go out it three of us and the price usually come to like 87 dollars or more
Lol when he translated the price he put the damage 😂😂😂
I always rewatch my favourite videos.
I love these videos, they're informational and family vlogs!
I love these videos so much I wish I can go to Japan, but the only problem is remembering the language
I don't write comments often but I must say that your videos are very fun to watch especially when they are interactive with your children. Keep up the good work!
Dang Japan is way technical than North America 🥺
I love listening to Aiko’s voice. It sounds nice. Please consider helping her make, A Draw My Life, RUclips video. Shin’s mango dessert looked yummy. Thanks for the cool menu footage. Everything looked good on it.
I don't know why but I love how waiters/waitresses point their hands to gesture to something. Just something polite and soft about it.
It's not really a compliment contrary to popular belief it would be like asking someone to stop chewing if you asked them to quiet down
Everything just looks healthy. Even the dessert
Thank you. I found your family video helpful. The children are adorable.
I'm so happy I found this channel! I love u guys!!! I've been binge watching lol

@@aeiou4184 Hello! I teach Japanese, Chinese, and Scottish Culture! What would you like to know??

Gacha machine is a machine where you put cents and a fiqure thingy will pop out.. I think. And Gacha life is a story maker game!
There are family restaurants and there are thoes ultra modern no waiters automatic help yourself restaurants. what a country !!!!
they are sooo organised and responsible and also they eat so much of healthy food❤❤❤❤
hello Aiko's dad just for curiosity in case of a wheelchair bound person want to visit the restaurant, are they allowed to be on their own wheelchair? or they are moved to a special wheelchair for the restaurant? I mean, people are not allowed to use shoes in the restaurant, so i think wheels are dirtier than shoes, or the staff simply make an exception?
I asked Josh (who was in our travelling with a disability video) and he said it depends on the restaurants. He usually avoids restaurants that have a genkan (that lowered entrance where you take off your shoes). He says some will have ramps they can put down.
Life Where I'm From ohhh I see thanks for answering btw love your channel
