when you need to expose your grandparents to grunge music without all the grunge
A most excellent comment!
very good
This is bad number of likes
Something evil in that
The older side of grunge are grandparents now.
I love how a consistent comment across these covers is something about finally being to understand the words.
But gods, these covers are gorgeous.
plus, she's changing some of the words from the original, so they understand her lyrics, not Cobain's
Smells like grandma spirit
kr bf HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHH
kr bf Some of the teens from Teen Spirits time are grandparents, so how bah dah!
kr bf Best comment!
kr bf lol
I dunno were you're from but when I see you I'm buying you a beer.. aye?
Okay. I've heard all kinds of covers, but this one takes the cake. A swing version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is simply so far into stratosphere that I'm very surprised that I'd never heard this on college radio. Excellent cover and I'm very impressed that you were able to pull it off
Always wondered what people from the 1940's would think if they heard these covers, haha.
You do realise that there are still millions of people around who were alive in the 1940s right?
Well, yeah, obviously. You know what I meant though.
Vidmantas Briska people in the 80s didn't like what we call soft rock because it was their version of heavy metal, what would someone with the general tastes of an adult in the 40s think of hearing this in their time period, but that's too long for an off handed comment
I asked. They were not amused, they think it's a tasteless perversion of their genres and how the music used to be back in the day by people who don't understand music.
You can totally tell that the singer has been influenced by modern vocal styles. I don't mind, but they do.
Inspector Kemp same, I really loved the covers from Bioshock Infinite too. We need to track down some oldies ;)
for such a depressing song, you made it feel like i entered a portal where everything is rose petals, strawberries and sunshine.
What a devastatingly ingenious reinterpretation of this sarcastic and industry damning song. Just brilliant.
So THATS the lyrics...
I'd like to hear you guys cover some Metal bands, that would be really interesting...
Jordan Gallaher Omg imagine they covered Down with the Sickness!
Neon Light i see you everywhere
Jordan Gallaher chop suey!
Slipknot Duality 😂
Rise Rebel Resist
The #blessed line is pretty clever, IMO. Cobain himself said he started off writing this song as the ultimate pop song, but the end result is mostly sarcastic and hating on himself and the music industry as a whole. Adding the hashtag does nothing to lessen the sarcasm of the line, but actually does add to the irony of the song as a whole (in that it arguably is the ultimate ANTI-pop song).
Anyway, this is one of my favorite covers by you, Robyn. Keep up the great work!
SmilingSpectre yes finally someone who enjoys this cover and doesn't find it repulsive
This definitely is my favorite cover by her and I laughed when she said hashtag blessed. I think a lot of people who listen to Nirvana don't really understand the point of this song, but I think that Robyn does get it and nails it with this rendition.
How does that add to irony at all lol.
@Cassandra If the goal was to modernize an older song, sure it's fitting. Does seem like they want to do the opposite and that line just doesn't feel like it belongs
Jan Christoffersen you can broaden the message of the song and say they are also talking about social media and the chase for fame online thus the hashtag
“Nirvana or 40’s swing?”
Robyn: Yes
I’ve come to the conclusion that there is not a single song in music history that Robyn can’t improve on with her beautiful voice and incredible charisma. Listening to her is like sitting in a warm bubble bath while taking the first sip of a perfectly made martini.🥰
Nice job lady!
Love Nirvana, never heard in 40's swing before... NAILED IT!!
you Rock Robyn
Can we call her.....Rockin' Robyn?
LOVE to her the Robyn goin'
"Tweet Tweet Tweet".
Check out Paul Anka's album Rock Swings, fantastic version of it on there
Great way to "re-hear" some old hits that are already tiresome. Love it ♥
Robyn Adele you've reignited my love for music, you are simply wonderful and quite splendid. Much love. XX
Im in love with the bassist
That was pretty good, but could have done without the hashtag edit. Felt dirty.
That absolutely ruined it for me. I don't understand what the thinking was there.
I dont get it, what do you mean "hashtag edit" ?
Acel Damia what?
She says 'hashtag blessed' which wasn't in the original
watashiwamosura when? I didnt even notice
I was in the car with my friend when the original version of this song came on the radio, and when he heard it he said, "Oh, it's that Postmodern Jukebox song."
I loved this. My band covered this song back in middle school and it was super fun. My grandpa didn’t even like our act at all, but I’m sure he would love this
"Turn the lights out
at the steak house
here we are now
eating tables"
It's been 10 years and I STILL got those misheard lyrics stuck in my head every time I hear the song.
Great work, btw :)
Lol.
All these marbles in my mouth.
"I feel stupid and contagious" aka me whenever I forget to grab my facemask when I step outside
Emily , just keep praying for the days when the Only time we'll
ever need to wear a mask is
on Halloween.
😂
The little shimmy Robyn does during "My libidio" is so perfect to her voice. Love this stuff.
No words can describe how much I adore this cover
I don't know if I like it or not. But it blew my mind!
Same here!
Also I don't know if she is too pretty or she sings good
Ezio Brody She's goddamn beautiful and she sings great. I'd totally do her.
the original literally blew Kurt's mind.
Im going to hell.
you like it now shut up
I wanna sit at a bar with a drink and just listen to these people perform all night.
I didn't think it was possible for a crossover like this could be any good, but I love it.
Woah, matching this tune according to the lyric is beyond perfect.
I'm so glad i found you... Pure talent.
really great interpretation of such an iconic song- I thought this was PMJ but was suprised with how talented and emotional the vocalist was- ;) also shout out to your band- I didn't notice the awesome lady basist for a minute because I was distracted by that guy on trumpet ;)
Actually she used to be on PMJ but left to do her own covers
The sheer confidence that just oozes from her when she is performing the song is just amazing to see!
This is sooo good!
Y'all transported me to Chicago in 1920.
Amazing!
Keep going!❤
I'm into that bass girl
I think the singer is pretty hot too.
I really liked the tone of her upright bass.
Wait, what are we talking about?
Dude she was looking straight st you go for It!
I think, we all think the singer and bass player are wanting some teen spirit.
omg i fell in love with this
BLOODY HELL‼️‼️‼️you rock. With this version I can sleep and dream with some angels🫢🫢😛😛😜😜
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 🍾🍾🍻🍻🎈🎈
giving band geeks a new breathe of musical life....love the richness, variety , and innovation of it all
Sorry Kurt, I love Nirvana and Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of my favorite songs, but sometimes... Sometimes it's just nice to actually understand the words being said lol \m/
it's so weird to actually be able to hear the lyrics of the song xD but it was lovely Robyn
I love how Ms. Anderson wears flower pins in her hair. It’s a great look.
I watch this over and over and it only gets better.
I never knew the lyrics until now. Awesome cover :)
Did she just say "H A S H T A G B L E S S E D"
Pete Wentz From My Chemical Romance.... she did.. I'm rather peeved about that.. (I like your name)
+Thee IkeMaster (Ayy thank you)
when does she say that
Pete Wentz From My Chemical Romance your name tho...
What was the original line?
I did a double take at that line too. I know it came out before the Hashtag was brought out of the Programming space. (It's used in C programming to draw the compiler's attention as it does it's pre processing to do stuff like add a file into the project.)
Die-hard Nirvana fan here. This was awesome
All the musician are great! You rock!
Great version! This is the first time I've actually heard the lyrics!
To everyone complaining about the hashtag-
how come it's fine to change the instruments and tempo of the song in a cover, but you can't change a single lyric?
Some, if not most, of the lyrics are nonsense. Even Dave Grohl said "Just seeing Kurt write the lyrics to a song five minutes before he first sings them, you just kind of find it a little bit hard to believe that the song has a lot to say about something. You need syllables to fill up this space or you need something that rhymes."
Don't be shouldn't be so offended about a song lyric being changed, the idea that it 'disrespects' a 20 year old song is ridiculous.
You May Remember Me From... Agreed some people get politically correctness offended early in life stfu
* cough cough * you're putting too much thought into this * cough cough *
You May Remember Me From... basically because # didn’t exist in 1940
As in it wasn’t used in that way
It's not that something was changed, it's that part of something important to me was changed.
your band is amazing! Props to the whole squad!!
one of the songs that really changed music in the 90s
RIP Kurt
Oh my god, this song has lyrics.
Lars Erik Volden lol
Lars Erik Volden yes my child
The fact that I get Viagra ads before every playing of a Robyn song is starting to concern me
Advertiser algorithms aren't always 100% accurate. Oh, this is jazz? Must be old men watching. It's not good at recognizing "oh, this is a modern song given a retro cover, something young people would be into."
@@maddie9602 ... I'm in my mid-thirties and even I'm not sure I would exactly categorise Teen Spirit as "modern" :P
LOFL....!
I'm sorry, it's all my fault
Like I said, sorry.
Lmao dude
This woman's voice is the most amazing thing i have ever heard in my life.
flyonthewalls Wrong girl. That was Haley Reinhart!
Thank you for pointing that out to me.
She has one of the best voices.
Well, I just found your channel yesterday and having a new song today is amazing!
keep it going!
I kinda wanna see a 1940s cover of an eminem song
Hermilo Rodriguez But since they would probably slow down the pace it would get very long so they'd leave put lyrics like they did covering the Gorillaz :/
Hermilo Rodriguez they can do *love the way you lie*
Hermilo Rodriguez good idea
😂😂😂😂 nice comment
8 mile would be a good one
Real music can express so much feelings through various genres, love that!
I have to this a least 30 times since yesterday it's like a drug I can't get enough. I love the sound it's just so amazing.
You should do "She's leaving Home" by the Beatles.
I think it would be cool >.>
Murpaderp yes please!!
this is a rare example of the original song being discovered by me now since I missed out on the nirvana craze. I said to my elementary school friends I listened to nirvana to fit in but I never actually listen ed to them
Kurt would love this. Very happy stuff.
" I highly approve this wonderful Interpretation/ Version of this song!"😊
Your swing covers are amazing, could you please do some songs by Rise Against
"PLEASE COVER EVERY SONG EVER!!" Sincerely, everyone
Always a delight to see and hear you and the band THANK YOU , y’all always lift my spirits
All I can say, is THANK YOU!!!!
I listen to a lot of entertainers and Robyn and this band are great! We love this music down here in Ensenada Baja CA Mexico...... come on down and take a break here. Or Jam! I'll arrange. Thanks Scott for posting your special projects! Yu the Man!
This is seriously my favorite thing. p.s. I loved the ironic, tongue-in-cheek hashtag blessed.
I love this take on Nirvana
I started this video sceptical.. several seconds in I was blown away! Im totally subscribing!
Once I finally stopped staring at her eyes I had the thought... she should cover Say Anything. Yes.... Please do that!
Yes yes yes yES she TOTALLY should
Alek Coble Lol i doubt she could cover anything.
If anyone on Postmodern Jukebox it would be Hailey Reinhart
Alek Coble I agree. Alive with the gloty of love would sound great in an old timey style to fit the sad/optimistic tone and message of the song. But she could pull off any of their songs.
but this is not PMJ, this is only Robyn. And I do believe she can cover anything.
ok. just gonna say it. i listened to this on loop cause i was trying to study and the real one made it hard to concentrate
Actualy best music video on the Internet.
#blessed listening to Robyn Adele Anderson
Beautiful cover!
imagine doing a 1960s swing version of a black veil brides song or falling in reverse😂 would be neat though
falling in reverse- the drug in me is you would be awesome for her to cover
They have like all my favourite songs covered good taste
It's so fuckin amazing... I've never imagined that this awesome song could be even more fantastic
Her voice is a combination of the most beautiful and sexiest ever O_O
AMAZING!!!!!😉
The girl playing the double bass is just beautifull. You go girl :)
una clara muestra de que la musica es lo mas versatil que existe!!!!! el arreglo les quedo fantastico
Robyn you should cover Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield. your voice would tho with that song so amazingly
go with*
damn auto correct
Please do this, it would be amazing!
es genial como conserva el alma de la canción original
Absolutely fantastic
Excellent. Thanks guys.
i'm not mad you decided to say "hashtag blessed"... just disappointed.
It hurt me so bad.
This already wasn't edgy and that was just a slap in the face, lol. I still like the cover though, but that just made me cringe hard.
Pippin Covington yesssssss... let the butthurt flow through you... *cackles*
I was trying to find out how on earth this got over 500 dislikes and than i heard the #blessed line 😑
Lol You, Anarchists so decent persons XD
Great cover :)
The filter on the video is kind of overboard though lol
Very jazzy! I like it!
Robyn, there's many wonderful singers, but you have the best facial expressions in musical performance! You make the music enjoyable to watch as well to hear.
Today I have had a dream where you were singing Personal Jesus. Hope it will come true soon!
powerful, strong and sensual voice...keep doing it
WOW......simply magnificent!!!!
So good! Robyn, your voice is amazing!
You've improved everything. Sparse is good. I was worried, it's a big song. Me happy!
What is everyone talking about? A hashtag? Whatever their talking about, this cover was amazing, good job!
I needed this channel in my life
Thank you for this, Robyn & Crew, keep up the great work!
Wow, never knew there was actual lyrics to this song. Amazing how much you can convey to your audience when you're not singing through a needle...
i always just thought that Cobain just made random nice sounding noises lol
it feels weird watching this without scott Bradlee in it
I feel weird being watched without scott Bradley inside me.
JanjayTrollface That's the best comment reply ever
carrotadrian 😀
I really respect how they can do these songs so they stand alone often without the key hook that is essential to the original.
Omg this was incredible!!!! Love this version sooooooo much!!!
