Never occurred to me, but doing a Gangsta’s Paradise cover in the style of Jazz popular during the prohibition era is such a perfect fit, and in retrospect, so obvious a decision. Well done, “fellas!” :D

Good rap and jazz focus on beat and rhythm
Without sounding pretentious or nothing, rap is poetry, Similar to ballads. Good rap uses certain poetic devices to catch the ear.

In the city slums of 1920's Mobius, "the shining city of a new age," lives a private detective. He recently divorced from his childhood sweetheart, a dame with rosy red cheeks and all the subtlety of a giant mallet. His best friend, a mechanic nicknamed "Tails," has been trying his best to support him through his alcohol addiction, but there's no time to recover; a new drug, nicknamed "Rings," has been taking over the streets and the police just can't keep up. Now there's only one man fast enough to catch the crooks responsible, if you get past his... prickly demeanour.
His name is Sonic H. Hog. And the infamous chemist, Dr "Eggman" Robotnik, doesn't stand a chance.

The 1920s was the time when Mafia gangsters like Al Capone, Salvatore Maranzano, Charles Luciano and many other Italian gangsters ruled America and were blasting each other with Thompson sub-machine guns. The lyrics of this song fit so amazingly to that era. If this song really existed way back then, those gangsters would've loved it.

It was used by some actors, circus and fairground showmen, professional wrestlers, the mob, merchant navy sailors, criminals, prostitutes, and the gay subculture. It was a mixture of Cockney rhyming slang, with Yiddish and other roots. So in a weird way, it still works I think...

Being a known mobster simply isnt a crime. Sure it could make the fbi watch him closer but that doesnt matter because everyone was already watching him

Essentially if you were so rich and powerful you could tell a cop to clean your shoes and they would say yes sir of course youd flaunt that shit every second you could especially if your a power hungry mob boss who worked his whole damn life just to be able to do just that

    • @RamajX
      @RamajX 8 лет назад +5

+BOSS MEDIA I don't. So you're wrong about that. Pay attention to what's being said instead of trying to smart off so quickly. Sampling uses a small portion of a song. A cover uses either the entire song or a majority of the original song's framework and themes. Gangstas Paradise uses the majority of Pastime Paradise's full musical framework, vocal arrangements, and only slightly amends the lyrics. Coolio's rap is the only brand new addition, and it fits so well with the themes of the original song that Stevie Wonder himself has performed the song with him. That's a cover. Biggie's One More Chance uses a portion of DeBarge's Stay with Me. That's a sample.

I feel that the tempo is off for the song. I realize they're going for a style but I feel like it's mismatched to the song. At first I was thinking that maybe a slower version would do it, so I went to change the speed and accidentally put it on 1.25 instead of .05. Vast improvement! That seemed to make it so much better. So, try it at 1.25 the speed, tell me if you agree. I know not everyone will but it might make this version more enjoyable to some.

Exactly, this song really should be done as a jump blues cover. The jive beat would really be perfect.

ZombyJello Yup, sounds much better at 1.25 speed!

I have a school project lately and learnt that the Roaring 20s was a decade of optimism and celebration after the War. It was a highlight period of Jazz music, Art Deco movement and Flappers fashion. Women would wear loose waist dresses with zigzag or chervon pattern, short wavy Bob haircut and some would put on beeded eyelashes makeup, pretty cool. In these years, the impact of Art Deco has left us with many achievements; such as in architecture, there're Chrysler Tower, The Empire States and so on.

+Michael Ezekiel Given the gangsta rap roots and lyrics of the song it's saying something that PMJ were able to make such a change. Funny thing is, being sung like that, the lyrics are fitting for the 20's era gangsters as well.

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize there's not much left
'Coz I've been blastin' and laughin' so long, that
Even my mama thinks that my mind is gone
But I ain't never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
Me be treated like a punk you know that's unheard of
You better watch how you're talkin', and where you're walkin'
Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk
I really hate to trip but I gotta, loc
As I grow I see myself in the pistol smoke, fool
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
On my knees in the night, sayin' prayers in the streetlight
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
They got the situation, they got me facin'
I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the stripes
So I gotta be down with the hood team
Too much television watchin' got me chasin' dreams
I'm an educated fool with money on my mind
Got my 10 in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loc'd out gangsta set trippin' banger
And my homies is down so don't arouse my anger, fool
Death ain't nothin' but a heartbeat away
I'm livin' life, do or die, what can I say
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-four
The way things are going I don't know
Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the one's we hurt, are you and me
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
Power and the money, money and the power
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Everybody's runnin', but half of them ain't lookin'
What's going on in the kitchen, but I don't know what's cookin'
They say I gotta learn, but nobody's here to teach me
If they can't understand it, how can they reach me
    I guess they can't, I guess they won't
I guess they front, that's why I know my life is out of luck, fool
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Been spendin' most their lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
    Keep spendin' most our lives,
    livin' in the gangsta's paradise
Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the one's we hurt, are you and me
Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the one's we hurt, are you and me
