    My Cleto Reyes 12 oz pink velcro has an actual weight of over 17 oz: left 482 grams, right 484 grams. GIL Hybrid 12 oz actual weight over 16 oz: right 462 grams, left 464 grams. Casanova gloves velcro 12 oz is actually weighing more than 14 ounces: the left 412 grams, the right 416 grams. Cleto Reyes Hybrid of size S purple has an actual weight of over 14 ounces: left 396 grams, right 404 grams. Everlast MX Velcro 14 oz was the closest in weight: 410 grams each glove. I apologize for the bad English.

    In my experience Mexican gloves tend to run heavier. Reyes being grossly overweight. Recently I’ve noticed other Mexican brands I carry getting closer and closer to label weight. Pakistan gloves are usually spot on or very close. Fly is always close as well. Winning is pin point.

      Mine are a little under 16oz - as I say I don’t get too bent out of shape if the gloves are there or there abouts but when a glove is like 3 oz different to the label then it’s like why have they even bothered to put a label on🤷🏻‍♂️👊🏼👍🏼

    Traditional mexican training gloves use a single layer natural latex foam as the padding component (Reyes, Campeon, Casanova). Gloves are cut to a mold, this includes the padding. Given the raw nature of natural latex, the density of the foam can vary, meaning the weight will vary between "identical" sets of gloves. Training gloves which use entirely synthetic padding (which will have a more consistent density) e.g Winning, or even cheaper alternatives such as Top Boxer will be much closer to the advertised weight.
    Fight gloves, which have horse hair or a horsehair/foam blend have an easier weight control as the leather will be cut and the padding will be weighed and measured to fill the glove appropriately.
    In reality, in training gloves weight means size.

    • @Fit2Box
      @Fit2Box  4 года назад +2

      Yes great information thanks for sharing yes in training gloves to just weigh gloves that say 16oz and expect 16oz in both lace and Velcro is too simplistic an approach - it should be size not oz indicator I agree - because it’s not like Reyes are 2oz bigger and therefore a larger glove as they are a compact glove for sparring , I would love the boxing world to go by size SMALL equivalent to 12oz SIZE not 12oz weight - MEDIUM 14oz SIZE not 14oz weight - LARGE 16oz SIZE not weight - EXTRA LARGE 18oz SIZE not weight, I suspect this would be too much of a massive shift to actually happen, so it does mean that on some gloves the oz indicator is pointless as the oz is no where near the oz label so why is it on there. RIVAL have done this with some of there gloves but it hasn’t caught on. Thankyou for your comment a Great point well made 👊🏼👍🏼

    ****** for the record I don’t have a massive issue with a glove weighing exactly spot on - but if a glove weighs 3oz over the indicated label then what is the point in putting the label on 🤷🏻‍♂️when it’s clear their has been no attempt to get anywhere near the label weight🤷🏻‍♂️- again if a glove weighs 15.5 and it’s label is 16oz it’s a little underweight but it’s at least close- I would obviously have a problem if the indicator said 16oz but they weighed WAY under say 12oz that again shows no attempt to match the label*****

      I’f what you say is correct about the Velcro straps weighing 1 ounce then I’ve got 4 pair all Velcro strap I’ve weighed them all (cheap salter kitchen digital scales) ringside 14 ounce (13 ounce) right and left. Hayabusa t3 lx 16 ounce (15 3/4 right 15 1/2 left) cleto Reyes sparring 16oz ( 18.2 left 18.8 right) everlast protex 3 bag gloves 16 ounce ( 16 1/2 left 16 3/4 right) so the cheapest and one with the poorest reviews was nearly spot on and the most expensive with the best reviews are really heavy 🤷🏻‍♂️ also just a side note I’ve got average to small hands for a guy my size I’m 6ft and 220lbs and the cletos hand compartment feels really small ( they are new) I’ve read cletos 16’s hand compartment are really large?

    • @Fit2Box
      @Fit2Box  4 года назад +2

      When it comes to sparring I would always suggest bigger , Reyes are a hard sparring glove as it is - the weight is across the whole glove not mainly on the knuckle area so even though it might be a couple of ounces over I still would go 16oz Reyes for sparring

    Isn’t it ironic that we use heavy gloves to protect our partner, but at the same time it is harder to pull it back and thus leading to potentially hurting your partner and yourself (elbow) more? Especially when going light skin touch anyways. You need more power to deliver and pull back a heavy glove than a light glove.

      Late but also no. The glove "weight" of 12,14,16, etc isn't entirely to do with weight, the reason kids get suggested smaller glove sizes is because the hand compartment tends to be smaller on smaller ounced gloves. Except actual fight gloves because they're supposed to have less padding but fit hand sizes bigger. Some companies follow this more and some less.
