  • Well folks! This is my longest review yet! I meant to do this review this last week but unfortunately was sick and couldn't get through a video without coughing 100 times per minute. These are my personal favorite gloves ever made and because of the brand and high quality glove they are, I give you the most in depth boxing glove review anyone could ask for! I talk about the history of Cleto Reyes as well as the materials used and how the glove comes together in general. I know 25 minutes may seem like overkill, but when you are investing in gloves like these, YOU SHOULD KNOW EVERYTHING YOU CAN!

    This is definitely one of the most in depth, thorough boxing gloves reviews I have ever seen. Well done! My only gripe with the gloves is that the Reyes logo on some pairs peels off real quick and mine was no exception. I have also had a pair of Winnings MS-500 for 3 years and the logo is still intact. But hey, these are athletic equipment so it's a minor issue. Otherwise perfect gloves, love them.

      Absolutely! You are for sure not the first to mention that to me! I never had that issue but I have seen other Reyes logos peel off. Not sure why though!

    I’m a heavyweight and i just got a pair of the traditional training lace ups from CR. I’m gonna try them in the gym today after work. I decided to go for them because I’m trying to get my first fight this year and I do hit pretty hard but my lead hand is the strong one (southpaw so my right hand) and my left wrist is never supported enough by non lace ups. I don’t throw full power with my rear hand because of this wrist issue and it works for me. My lead hand is the more powerful and I have very strong bones so I can throw jabs and hooks bare knuckle for a few rounds on a heavy bag it if I wanted to so I think on paper these might not look like the best gloves for me but from personal experience if I can go full power at length with crappy/ mid tier gloves I’ll be fine with cleto’s.

I’d like to see them offer these with different logo options. No hand logo as Ali was wearing, small or large hecho logo as Chavez and Tyson had.

    Quick question for a friend who wants to get into amateur fights, VENUM HAMMER Pro or this one( both in 16 0z ) for a power puncher(heavy weight guy in HW category , athletic build ) , for heavy bags , mitts and sparring ,both velcro version including thumb support,wrist support, durablity.Which boosts confidence to punch harder you know initially to get that feel for going harder in training as he is trying to climb the ladder in his league. which you recommend overall as you have more experience? For practise sessions obviously as harder the practice easier the fight ! Kindly reply brother!!

    Wondering if anyone has any input/help on a weird situation I have regarding these gloves. I ordered a pair from official Amazon store. One glove ended up basically missing the "slot" in the fingertips that you kind of hook your fingertips behind, so I ordered the exact same pair again (12oz, silver, velcro). The next pair that arrived were VERY different. They look different, feel different, in many ways. One pair weighs almost exactly 12oz each glove, the others were ~16oz (to be clear, they are both labelled 12oz, as I had ordered, but their actual weights when on the scale are 12oz vs 16oz). The lighter pair (the ones that ended up weighing almost exactly the correct 12oz they are supposed to be) have a more noticeable leather grain, a much thinner and less soft foam, not as shiny looking, larger ventilation holes in the thumbs, the "12oz" label is a darker black font, the end of the velcro strap is a rounded end (vs. a slightly more "square" end on the other pair), a smaller and less pronounced font/characters for the stamp that they put on the wrist of each gloves, and more. But the biggest difference is the look and feel of the foam. I'm trying to figure out if one of these pairs is perhaps a counterfeit, or if one may be an older model and Cleto Reyes changed how they make the gloves, or any other reason why these gloves are so drastically different. Overall they both seem to have very high standards in terms of the stitching/quality, but they are clearly very different in other ways.

    Thanks for the in-depth review!
    Tried a pair of 18oz velcros last week and they're a lot more snug than the 16s. I also heard that they updated the design recently, so their gloves may all fit tighter now. I own a pair of 16oz velcros and a pair of M hybrids, both from 2014. I've gotten very limited use out of the velcros - just too wide for me, not enough wrist support, and really funky padding (thin, soft, and uneven). On the other hand, the hybrids are some of the best gloves I've ever owned: snug fit, great wrist support, thicker, denser padding that does a great job of protecting the knuckles. Just ordered the hybrids in L to see if I can get away with using them as an all-around glove.

    • @choukichigaijin
      @choukichigaijin 4 года назад +1

      @offfduty3 The L size hybrids are probably my favorite gloves. They have the profile of a 16oz glove and fit me perfectly, with a lot of wrist support. Only draw back is they're heavy - 19.4 and 19.5 ounces each. Reviews on Sherdog also confirm my speculation that the velcros have an updated design with better fit & wrist support.

    Great video! Only inaccuracy is the details on the history of them. He won his first fight; he stopped not due to lack of courage but because he realized that it was just not something he wanted to do on a daily basis.
    Taken from their website bio: “In 1938, Cleto Reyes participated in an amateur fight, his performance was so outstanding that the public ended up throwing coins into the ring floor; however, the pounding was so hard that he was convinced not to fight again. He chose, instead, to mend the gloves he had used during the fight and this was the beginning of his career in glove manufacture.”

      SO the extra padding gloves have been requested forever and the video is certainly overdue but in short, they are a little harder to get on and have less room in the hand compartment. Just got a pair in 12oz all black. I made sure to watch this video and it was very helpful. Initially I loved the smell and how they look, in terms of feel they are for sure stiff and I’m going to need to break them in. The thumb bothered when I put on the glove without wraps during my initial opening…after wrapping my hands I was fine.
    Now with the padding on the fist, I’ve had knuckle problems years ago when I would compete but these didn’t bother me at all. I hear a lot after some use the padding in the front thins so in the even it bothers me, I’ll wrap my hands more on the wrist(currently
    occasional wrist pain) and use my winning ng2 knuckle guards to fill them in.
    My Favorite thing about these gloves would be the punch feedback and the thudding pop when u crack the bag. By far my favorite gloves I’ve ever owned .

    Damn, Great video! You talked so much thing I don't know about Reyes. I wish I could see it before.
    I have two pairs of Reyes. One lace one Extra padding. But they don't fit me well. In sparring, I used laced, I feel my hands are moving around and can't grab them well to punch; In the bag I used extra padding but I can feel it hurt my hands.
    I think I should just go for Winning since I am actually a counter punch, I love to count and punch back instead of going lots of combination shoots.

    great review! i love these gloves too, much more over than win1 that i owned. still breaking in, but i can see its gonna get better. had the thumb issue intially too, prob cuz it was the 12oz glove, the fit is too tight cuz my handsize is kinda above average for my size..., (due to my weight and size i got 12oz), it starts getting better after some 20-30rounds.
    i'll say i really like these gloves, it felt like its literally meant and made for boxing. saw the videos om the cleto reyes factory too, you can really see that real people put in their souls into making these, not some automated robots.
    the quality of the leather too. the smell is abit strong at the start, but eventually starts to taper off slowly. some people might not like the smell. i couldnt stand it at the start too, but it got better as time pass.
    i'll say people these days aint patient enough to appreciate good and quality things. they just want something that fits them on the spot, regardless of its durability and other concerns. but i guess its mainly cuz we all lived in a fast paced society/world. idk, i'll say people who appreciate these gloves, truly appreciate the art and sports of boxing itself.
    just to add on lastly, for people who are afraid of getting hurt (except beginners; beginners please stay clear of these if you don't know how to punch right, you can REALLY REALLY get hurt very badly!!!), this is boxing we are talking about. I mean, i never hear of people never getting hurt in boxing, lol... but of course, for those who have injuries or pre-existing medical hand conditions, prob safer to just go for winnings.

      many people always recommend 16oz for beginners, but i beg to differ. for 16oz it will give u more cushion, but might not be helpful in the longterm, and also, even if u get more cushion at ur knuckles, the force will shock all the way to your shoulders. it also depends how you hit etc, just make sure not to flare out ur elbows too much when u are going hard, becuz u can get really bad elbow/joints or ligaments issue, my left hand got a minor one, and some of them you can never recover from it.
      for these gloves it only goes from 12 to 16oz. only the pro fight ones have 8 and 10oz.
      some people recommend 12oz since it is closer to fight gloves. but idk, i got 12oz cuz i heard that reyes always come overweigh. and mine weighs aroudn 15 to 16oz for a 12oz. i dont really mind the extra weight tbh, and never really felt exhausted from it.
      i will say if u wanna go fast and focus on techniques, go for 12/14. if u wanna go hard and want more protection, go for 16. but ideally u dont wanna go too hard if ur technique is off, becuz it just take 1 or 2 bad hard punches to injure urself.

      @viiviizzz Год назад

      @@lulumoll6986 i like these gloves cuz the snapping sound generates when u pull off correct snap punches sounds like shotgun lol. its super loud fr. and also you can kinda feel abit of your knuckles sinking in if you punch hard enough correctly. just make sure to tie your wrist properly so you dont snap it.
      also, when this is brand new, try not to go 100%, cuz if is still snug, and u cant properly form a tight fist, then you might injure ur fingers when going too hard. the break in period will differ from person to person too. since cuz of hand size differences and also hitting styles.
      but overall, im very impressed by the quality of these gloves. lots of people just hate it due to the long break in period etc, or that it doesnt provide them enough protection or they say. i think its just user problem, then the fault of the gloves tho. just my thoughts.

    I love CR as much as anyone but the weight is a real problem and they are always overweight. My 16 oz were almost 20 oz. My gym requires 16 oz for sparring and at 20 oz, not only do they slow your punches, but the extra weight actually tires you quicker as well.

    • @combat_corp
      @combat_corp  4 года назад +1

      Oh for sure the extra weight will get your shoulders burning and yeah natural latex is a light fluffy yet very dense material. The extra padding may make it a little safer to spar with though sometimes but I for sure see where you are coming from. BUT when you use lighter weight gloves for mitt and bag work I think you will love how fast your hands fly after using those!

    • @guysmarkus1
      @guysmarkus1 4 года назад

      @@combat_corp Totally. I like to really dig into the heavy bag with them for a great workout. I heard that you can get CR to hand pick a pair that are on weight spec for a couple extra dollars. It's more the rule than the exception with true Mexican gloves due to the robust leather and heavy stiching. Like CR, Casanova, New Sporting, Grant, Necali and Gil are all heavier than spec. The quality and heritage can not be denied nor can the way you feel cracking the bag with them. My everyday bangers are the Sabas Pro Series. If you've never tried them you should as the quality to price ratio is about the best out there.
