My son was just hospitalized this week. This is his 6th hospitalization. Unfortunately, as his main caregiver, I was the one that had to call the police. With this hospitalization and his last one, he was very upset because he said he was told I was the one who called. That had never happened before in other hospitalizations so I was shocked, and I just found out today from his social worker that they read the petitions to the patients while doing rounds the day after he was taken there. I asked her why they did that since now he won't trust me, and I'm his only caregiver. That really puts me in a very bad position when all I want is to help him. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Yes, we have had to call the police many times. Unfortunately it is the only option because when they stop taking their medications.. NOT FORCING the issue and treatment is WORSE then allowing them to relapse.
Additionally they seem to continually relapse anyway so regardless having them forced to the hospital will happen one way or the other…. And it’s better a family member calls vs them committing a crime and being thrown in jail.

    • @lizfrancis6202

He can know you called the police and you will call them again. Honestly is the key, if you have always demonstrated the best interest to him, he can still trust you. P.s I know this is hard for you and your son, and my heart is with you. I deal with this in my family with two family members with mental illness.

A lot of people commenting on how the drugs are at fault are mistaken. Of course the medications are not needed for every patient, I guess, but untreated schizophrenia for many is far more detrimental than medication.

    • @spartandrops1792
      @spartandrops1792 3 года назад +4

A lot of people mistakenly think that the drugs are to blame???
      - A lot of? So not all are wrong?
      - So your opinion can be either that drugs are not to blame for whatever
or because not all people are wrong, drugs are a little bit to blame but for the most part not to blame?
Confusing, isn't it? And it goes on like this.
Of course, not every patient needs medication, you guess???
      - The knowledge about these things is being researched! This is time consuming and complicated and not something that just comes to you.
The crux of the matter is whether untreated schizophrenia is significantly more destructive to most people than taking medication.
It depends on whom you ask!
If a red cloth is put in your hand and you find yourself in a bullring, facing an angry bull, what chance do you have?
You will not be able to make a good figure without knowledge or experience, with luck you will escape unharmed.
You don't have the experience and competence of a seasoned professional and it would be presumptuous of you to expect to have it, if this is the first time something has happened to you, then you are a complete beginner in this situation.
If you are untreated, you are not equipped and your schizophrenia will get you down.
Treatment, in my opinion, is absolutely desirable and does not mean taking medication at all.
There is not only treatment with medication but also without.
If I ask a doctor or a pharmaceutical company, it quickly becomes unfair, which patient needs why which medication and which does not? There is no legal obligation to provide the patient with the best possible treatment, but profits have to be distributed to shareholders, the company has to work economically in order to be in the black, and if it doesn't manage to do that, the company closes down.
The thought picture of the supermarket fits because he can and will only offer you the products that are on his shelves.
Untreated schizophrenia is not good, schizophrenia treated with medication is not an alternative in the long run and the treatment that is a real alternative is scarce.
To describe everything comprehensively would go beyond the scope here.
      Last but not least
Do not believe everything I say, allow yourself skepticism, think and inform yourself.

Im schizophrenic and to lose it this is the alternative approach, drop those meds. drink at least 500mg of niacine and tryptophan 5htp everyday trust me you will feel a tremendous change but it should go with fasting. avoid meats, junkfood, and sugar and lose that weight, and don't go on yoyo dieting wherein you get thin, you get fat, you get thin again then you get fat again. it will worsen it. it will just benefit them cause you are giving out bad life force/energy/aura. stick into being thin.
just eat Vegetables and fruits. your body is a temple. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia.
just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. fownload GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me. it has a 7 day trial period. ehat i did was i watch a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol
A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice thanks.
again niacin and tryptophan are very important thank you.

I can tell you first hand that in this world today it is not easy to get help for mental illness. My sister is 68 and had this problem since 14, did not get any help till 18. After that it was easier for a time when she had a melt down to get help. Now I am suppose to get a warrant and get her arrested as a terrorist when she will not go to the hospital. She has diabetes, diagnosed with 3rd stage kidney failure, which I treat with baking soda and lemon juice. Had open heart surgery and a heart attack, now under care of heart failure doctors. Weight is too high. Blood sugar too high. The psychotic drugs gave her diabetes, weight gain , leading to the heart problems. Currently on Lemetcal and Geodon.Just read she has no business on Geodon. I am disgusted with mental health industry. Someone needs to help her and others now. I can tell you it is not better, at least not for her, sure we are alone. They way people are going nuts and shooting and killing I just heard, read about Toprimate, I am going to see if I can maybe talk to someone about it for her.

Yes, they make things much worse. To the underlying condition come massive withdrawal, that can lead to psychosis, seizures and even death. They should never be coldturkeyd, but instead slowly tapered, like 10% reduction from the recent dose per months, because they are highly addictive and worse to come off than heroin.
An unmedicated person should first try all alternatives before getting a diagnosis and drugs.

You have to find the reason they're not taking the medication. Thinking it's just another way for someone to screw them over, abuse them, control them is one reaction, not liking the side effects is another. It's pretty rare that someone Says "I'm not sick so i dont need medication." That might be a problem with mania I imagine.

I’m convinced schizophrenia is a sleep disorder. It’s a disruption. In the REM sleep cycle due to heighten anxiety causing a person to remain in a partial dream state during their waking hours. It’s like they are sleep walking and living through nightmares. Schizophrenics need to repair their REM cycle and get a full 8 hour rest which cycles fro wake rem to deep sleep and then rinse repeat.

Klonopin for example. My thinking is treatment has to be holistic. A slow repair of the REM cycle with a sleeping antipsychotic. Vitamin and hormone therapy Niacin, 5 HTP magnesium and melatonin at night. Lions mane for brain . Repair during the day. And cognitive behavioral therapy to repair mind body connection a possibly hypnosis and psychedelics like ketamine or shrooms to help deal with the root of the trauma that led to the anxiety in the first place. These are just my thoughts and hope for a pathway out of this madness for my sister. I researched and pray everyday for a cure.

@@sughn. It’s because there’s a spiritual aspect to sleep. Deep sleep specifically. 3am hour is called the witching hour for a reason. That’s the time period where the spiritual and physical world are said to be more closely aligned. Waking up at 3am is said to be a spiritual awakening. It’s also a point in the sleep cycle. I believe people with schizophrenia remain at that 3am point and can’t get out of it. Just my theory though. My only basis is ongoing research, learning and speculating.

These good Drs talk about medication with terrible side effects that also harm the brain and other organs for life. Would they want to take them as readily as they prescribe them unto others? And what about telling the whole truth on the detrimental damage that drugs make and that neuroleptica gives a calm psychosis in itself.

@@MarleneRenee : Idk what that was to Lol about, but yes, I'd rather that, - and getting the healthy diet with the right missing supplements to balance that psychosis. And the real, quality psychotherapy I needed to calm down the stress and change from stress Sympaticus to rest.digest-heal Parasympaticus, getting help to form an intimate therapeutic relationship with her, and getting natuiral help to sleep, get good outdoor sunshine daily movement, some useful and artistic work to do, and learn to undererstand and change my wrong thinking.
Most psychoses wouldn't need drugs, it is said. Unless someone has really poor lifestyle and habits, I'd add. Because the patient has to be compliant and active in carrying the protocols out for it to work.
I take it that you don't know about natural healing.
You see, drugs cause new illness and bring patients ove the biological limiyt, beyond which tissues are so destroyed that the patient loses his ability to heal. Even if he got the right situation and treatment for it. Neuroleptica shrinks the brain, f ex, after many years, and tardiv dyskinesia, or is is parkinsonism, may be irreversible, I read The drugs are like a chemical strait-jacket, and often too high doses, so that the drug(s) is worse than the illness.
I know some feel and function well enough on their drugs, it differs a lot. Maybe they don't get as harmed, if they are more OK with them and tolerate them. But even they would fare better getting off the meds and heal instead.
I am aware that this view puts demands of dedicated and quality psychiatric care, which has fallen into oblivion much, due to lack of practise. PAtients are not even being properly examined, but quickly started on meds. Some get cocktails of meds not checked for years, and which may ot be good together.
I hope you can take this view and not be unwell by it, maybe consider and look into it..
There are some good psychiatrists here on YT speaking on these things, and former psycho-therapist Daniel Mackle has one about a medicine-free hospital for psychotic humans .I don't remember whether it is still running now, but it was. www.Dr L.Wilson.com has natural help for it too. :-)

So a19 yr old...usaully the age...cud be tv and depression....etc.
I had a theory that u populate ur Brian with....let's say chemistry or ohysics....brain has ideas in that subject.
But resting etc.....on meds just symptom covered.
So the bigger part is lead the patient onto a track...and I guess the western idea of not forcing into a job.. education..
Ask to try learning a textbook on the field they thing they like and try the 10 ..umm career paths approximate.
Also osychiatrist need to widen normalcy as long as they r functional in society.
And if parents are aggravating, irritating the brain ...if kid is ok with staying at a safe place(if money does the trick..sure)
Parents may not be able to handle.
Money ...will they be calmer if it's paid to the housing...and food guy?
The suspicin that kids r upto no good based on their childhood.
This level of control is disgusting?
    Sickening.....vomiting.?
What if the med causes ...especially if recent, issues in them.
Would u have to remive the deltoid muscle surgically.. lol
    Some patients ok with camera?
    24/7.
Blood test weekly to see levels?
    I dunno....
The idea of involuntarily into a person seems a slippery slope....very cruel....democracy....very scary legally?
