I was devastated when Bowie died, I walked all around town in the snow crying and singing, could not listen to Blackstar for nearly a year and a half without bawling my eyes out. This is beautiful, I truly believe David Bowie would be proud! If he were there in the audience I have no doubt he’d be smiling big cheering these ladies on. ❤️
Same, I bought the blackstar album , but couldn´t hardly listen to it. World had changed. Then I found this arrangement, the wohle album in the cathedral in France, and got familiar to it. Dear Mr Bowie, thank you for your gift in music and in character
you are not alone... This one turned me into a wreck when we put it on the day it was televised.... A bunch of us had got together for a party... Tone turned sombre as all fuck.
I have to declare an interest....I’m a hopeless Anna Calvi fan and I adored this. Super duet, fine orchestra and moving arrangement. Anna is a special artist; her own music and her various covers are emotive and enchanting. We are truly fortunate to be surrounded by such talent.
i showed considerable paucity clicking on this knowing how much i loved bowies version including the epic video. i love surprises and this exceeded all my expectations...this is way more complex than just a 'cover song'. also, i appreciate how seriously they took on the arduous task of trying to bring their own musicianship and vision towards this complex song.
My girlfriend was devastated when Sir Bowie passed, I too was also very sad but when I found out he was suffering from cancer I found something happy. I felt like this album he’s like letting us know that he’s okay, that he knows he’s dying but he’s okay with it. This album is like something he left for all of us to hold on too. Like if you miss him, just put this album on and he’s right there next to you.
i have wept over this,David would have been fascinated by this version. The orchestral arrangement and vocals are amazing.rest in peace my hero.We have lost our starman.RIP.XX
When you love the cover of a song as much as the original song, that means the song is capable of lingering in eternity without stopping for stupidity, wars, greed above all, because it transcends it all.
watched this the day it was released.... Couldn't accept that David Bowie was dead.... Childhood hero of mine, but also a hero of my entire family, mother, uncles, brothers and sisters.... It surprised me just how much it affected me.
Cover song elevated. Anna totally delivered the goods on the second act. Amanda performed at the same level of care. The orchestra was superb. I need to listen to this on a proper stereo - really loud.
I am not a music expert but this seems is a pretty complex arrangement. Not that there is anything wrong with the original Blackstar but I do think as well Mr. Bowie would have been mighty proud of it. An then I hope I am allowed to say to the small Mrs. Calvi: You are actually a giant.
i guaranfuckingtee he wont be proud of this millenial bollocks, misses the entire point of the song, it's not a hammy caterwaul, it's a soulful peal in front of our maker.
Incredible. A masterpiece. Calvi and Palmer are adorable and emotionally on the spot with this interpretation. There is another one with Calvi and Soap and Skin check it out its great too.
this song is so devasting in the original album, when Bowie died I couldn't listen to it anymore cause it was so painful. But this cover helps to move on cause there is a very dreamy aspect, even paradise entrence could have this cover song as a welcome song
Outstanding tribute, stands on its own and doesn't aim to copy. There's a part that (in this version more than in the original, although you can here there too) that reminds me of Piazzolla.
Sirens both. Also, it might be because my father has been in hospital since Thursday gone, but I can somehow manage to watch this, but can't watch David Bowie's original. Perhaps at any other time. Or perhaps it's because I can watch this and distract myself with thoughts of a future Prom consisting of nothing but video game music!
A beautiful version and was obviously well crafted and rehearsed. The whole LP reminds me of Dogs and this in particular is redolent of Sweet Thing, albeit given a kick up the arse :)
This performance is 'new'. AFP & GTO originally tossed a less involved version together and performed it LIVE (in Boston, I believe) within a few weeks of Blackstar being released and the world losing its Starman 😿. There was a string quartet, AFP, Anna and Jherek.... That's ALL!!!! The performance is VERY raw and perfectly imperfect 😻. It was much less polished yet FAR MORE magnificent (imo) than this carefully orchestrated (literally, lol) version with wayyyy too many instruments and precise execution. I need that hastily put together live version AFP & company threw together before February 2016.... Before "Strung Out in Heaven". I NEED THAT VIDEO BUT CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE 😿! Whether you agree or disagree with me about the difference between the two performances, if you know where I can find the original, could you please let me know? It's not lost on me how amazing THIS particular performance is! It's just the first one was so raw compared to this, or any other polished versions I've seen. It's simply a matter of preference. We're all in this 🖤BOWIE🖤 thing together❣️😽❣️

I totally agree... 🙏🙂
I always felt David was easily pleased by others, while able to bring out their best. It was one of his many gifts.
Hahahahahaha!!!!
I do understand you. It's one of his record (yes, I own and listen to it on vinyl), that I listen less to. But when I do, oh boy.
This made me cry the first time I saw it. Anna and Amanda's voices are so perfect together on this, and Jherek's arrangement is gorgeous!
You and me both. Followed Bowie all my life, was heart-broken when he died, but didn't shed tears until I watched this.

The discrete but real tear on Amanda’s left chick …
I'm a hopeless Soap&Skin fan ... and now, also of a Anna Calvi ruclips.net/video/BM8xo0srxaY/видео.html

Couldn't agree more with you
+Michael Gass Unsure of your use of the word 'paucity' there but completely agree.
Check the dictionary definition of 'paucity". Meaningless in this context.

their voices work together so well
Started by giving me chills, then moving me to tears. Beautiful.

Nobody is ok with dying mate
Nothing can kill David Bowie
Yes. Well said.
@@humblebugg5270 we can try, after all our life is a preparation for dying
@@djStrimmer mmm maybe. I think George Harrison had that attitude
Very moving made me sob. Huge fan of David Bowie tomorrow it will be seven months since his passing but he will never be forgotten.
Never.
he;s still alive you plumb
Still has devastating impact - and this is one of the very very few Bowie covers that is good enough.
i have wept over this,David would have been fascinated by this version. The orchestral arrangement and vocals are amazing.rest in peace my hero.We have lost our starman.RIP.XX
Having never listened to Anni Calvi before, 5:48 really surprised me. Both her and Amanda's voice go so well together. This was a beautiful cover.
You're missing much. She is one of the best contemporary artist out there.
She is really, really good
Anna Calvi is incredible.... do yourself a favour and get her self titled album ASAP.
A beautiful sad piece, that becomes even more so sung by these two women. Their voice sound great together.
Why Mrs. Calvi are you not far bigger?
This is hands down one of the best covers EVER!
The best version of Blackstar ! Eyes full of tears. You have to be proud girls. You've done unbelievably amazing job
Delphica Sibyl except for Bowie's version of course.
When you love the cover of a song as much as the original song, that means the song is capable of lingering in eternity without stopping for stupidity, wars, greed above all, because it transcends it all.
David's beautiful Blackstar, simply stellar!

Great arrangement and performance ❤
Just Amzing...!!! They're all real ARTISTS!! Can't stop my tears and listen to it!!! Great!!!
Amazingly beautiful DB would be proud.
Absolutely. He would've loved this.

@@Htheorphanarian Anna Calvi and Amanda Palmer are not millennials...
Htheorphanarian
I have a suspicion you have no idea who these people are and are spouting out of your ass to sound cool.
Fantastic version. Loved it on the night and still loving it now.
Life long bowie fan. This is fantastic and haunting. Bobby.
I literally stopped everything i did on my laptop to enjoy the chill running down my spine in 3:56
Keep coming back to this. Strong arrangement with two distinctive and musically sensitive vocalists.
Even in death David Bowie is the catalyst for profoundly beautiful and challenging musical art. Miss him more now than when he left us.
Must be the best version ever! Brilliant!
This is going to take me a few attempts to watch in full. It's brilliant from what I've saw so far but still very emotionally raw.🖤🖤⚡️⚡️
You really have to commend them on interpreting such a complicated piece of music. Well done.
The author is proud somewhere
Incredible. Truly beyond words. Thank you.
Incredible. A masterpiece.

i cried when i first heard this, thank you
Bowie. What a legend. He is proud of this, I just know it.
Amazing!
Je pleure.😢
What a gorgeous and respectful tribute
Hearing this reminds me how much Bowie admired Brel.
This is excellent.. beautiful.. Well done.
Love this, thank you Anna and Amanda
OMG wonderful ,amazing, touching, beautiful ..........!!!
Like painting a proper smile onto the Mona Lisa.
Some oddballs giving a really deep interpretation of a master's piece.
Outstanding tribute, stands on its own and doesn't aim to copy. There's a part that (in this version more than in the original, although you can here there too) that reminds me of Piazzolla.
Stunned by this. A massive ask and they came up with more.
Just beautiful.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus Christ
Chills.
Blown away. Obviously the gal on the right is very emotional. And this made me cry....
Masterpiece!!!!
BRAVO! For such a honorable, heartfelt, intensely appropriately played performance.

Beautiful, but interesting how gracefully anna and amanda palmer shatter in the second part.
Amazing!! Davvero toccante, grazie!!

Deserve it all. Wonderful!

incroyable version 🤗
4:21 that moment when the someone in the crowd began to applause omg I can sense the feeling
I'd forgotten all about Amanda Palmer. I was a Dresden Dolls fan ages ago.
Damned fine effort and I think David would agree :)
Great, thanks
WOW!!!!!
BRAVO!!!!
Splendid.
WOW! I think he would approve!
I've cried. And I have a reputation of being tough and hard-looking but I cried
Paul Southall who cares? all humans cry.
Wow Speechless great Bowie tribute
Wow.....shit..... Just wow this just made me quite emotional.
Completely epic.. DB would have been proud I'd say
Amanda Palmer has tears on her cheek. As do I.
AWESOME
Short and sweet WOW!
Amazing. So moving. Makes me want to create some music. Muses all.
What i have just listen ? Im squashed like a fly... MONUMENTAL STUFF!
you did a great job, riveting
love your appearance! ♥
