- I've always greatly preferred the version of "A Kind of Magic" used in the end credits of the movie to the version most people know that was released as a single. As the video for the single had no visual references to Highlander, I recut it with scenes from the movie over the top of the movie version of the song. Hope you enjoy it.
Highlander in my opinion is one of the best films ever made, Queen in my opinion IS the greatest band ever.

I agree, it's the best use of rock music in a film ever.
It lasted a whole 3 days in the theaters but the TV Series allowed them to make like 8 more movies lol.
I enjoyed the original movie... part two was pretty bad.

They were given clips and were to write one or two songs, They end up writing all of them for the movie. Each song fitted to the story. It was just one in a million hit with those that became fans.
I love Star Wars, The Terminator, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future and Aliens, but this is the 80s film that really ROCKS! "There can be only one."
+Nicholas Dickens I think they're all much better films than Highlander, to be honest. I think Highlander was absolutely made by the Queen soundtrack, which is awesome.

Saw this movie 3 weeks ago again for the millionth time but it's crazy how the music really sticks in your head for that long.
Such a great synergy of great music with great Highlander scenes.
The #Highlander soundtrack is hands down my favourite movie OST ever even beating Rocky! No body does it better than #Queen

Dude. Literally in the song it says "There can be only one". Literally in the movie Conner says when he comes back to life he says " It's a kind of magic". This whole album is literally the soundtrack to the movie.
@@jonhouse426 actually Freddie was a college of the director and the band was asked about making main theme for the movie but after Freddie saw the whole script, he like it so much that Queen decided to make whole soundtrack.
IMHO it was great, the movies was amazing and so was the soundtrack for it. One thing that I'm still pissed on to this day is a fact that Queen version of "New York, New York!" was never properly released.
This was the original version of the song. Freddie reworked it ito a pop song when Roger was on holiday. On reflection he should have left it as it was. Lyric wise. It was pure magic.

Agree this version is so much better than the single which was too poppy. the best version was the live one on Live Magic and Live at Wembley where it totally rocked with BM's guitar up front.

God I miss the 80s it was a great time to grow kids and so much freedom and weren't stuck to phones or other devices. I wish my kids could of experienced the same type of upbringing when life was simpler

Mary Hyde "A Kind of Magic" was written for the movie by Queen (Roger Taylor was the primary songwriter for the track). This is the original version, which is used over the end credits of the film. It was later remixed into the single version with which most people are familiar.

that they were good friends, but for all they was, this had nothing to do with David Bowie lol its. queen/ freddie mercury who sang this. there music styles was different, i wasn't having a go im just a big queen fan lol. highlanders fault, i love the whole highlander story,

I love this version so much. Listen to this song constantly everyday. Its really been getting me through hard times.
While I look both versions, there's something about this version that's kind of cooler. Maybe it has something to do with the muffled voices at the beginning and overall smoother sound but either way, they definitely don't write lyrics like this anymore!
Yeah, it has a slightly more laid-back, relaxed groove, and a more ethereal sound. It's less busy and poppy than the single version.
I must admit I prefer this version, it works far better for the movie :)

Roger Taylor made this version, and when he went on holiday Freddie added the bass line and the finger clicking of the album version

This movie version used in the end credit was Roger Taylor's version which Freddie Mercury revised. Freddie's version was the one they included in the album.

I like both to but sadly i don't think this version would have charted as high Freddie knew his stuff & the single version was a product of its time and appealed to rock and pop fans.
I like this version, but my favorite version is LIVE, 1986 in Budapest is a good one.

You did an excellent job with this one. I prefer this version of the song as well. Went so far as to record it on audio cassette from my VHS (yeah, I'm that old) way back when just so I could have a copy of it. Like many of the other folks, I thought this was a professional release when I first watched it. The sound and video quality are superb as is your editing job.
I did that with some of the songs from the movie since they never had an official soundtrack! I had to do that with two songs by George Harrison from the movie Shanghai Suprise (Madonna was in it but no music by her only GH and ELO's Jeff Lynne) You still can't get the song 'Hottest Gong In Town' anywhere but on RUclips!
Call me weird, but I actually like better watching it during the final credits, gives a feeling of finality. Anyway, this version is different than others (and better I think)

I love this movie.The other movies just didn't happen to me.The higlander taught me that life is one time experience and thats why it's so beautiful.Connor honored mortal life more then any kind of power.Having kids,being old,thats what he wanted,just to be mortal!Amazing how this movie teaches such a lesson.A must watch for every mortal inteligent being.Cheers.

surprisingly, I was never a fan of Freddy, his songs, His works, His creativity, of course, out of competition and I listened to and admired him as many. but just not long ago on RUclips accidentally got on His videos including videos, cutting the last years of His life. I was so absorbed and impressed that I started looking for articles, information, publications about mercury.

So if he was resound to facing who and what he was (as far as his parents' Zoroastrian faith goes), then he already knew he was doomed so him "selling his soul" is ridiculous. As far as he was concerned, he was already damn to hell. AND if by some miracle he'd repented right before taking his last breath, then he would be with the one who created us all. YOU just take care as not to judge others OR you'd might suffer that same judgement from the creator.

There was a special kind of magic to this magnificent movie.
Perfect soundtrack for an awesome movie! IMO this version is even better than the radio version.
Its on the 2011 remaster, deluxe edition along with a lot of other extras, lots of other queen albums have has a similar treatment

The song was actually written by Roger Taylor. I think the version released as a single was Freddie's preferred version.
It is kinda strange that there was never an official soundtrack release given that the music (both the songs and Kamen's score) is such an integral part of the movie for most fans.
