    Love you guys, valuable and informative. Over the years I've owned a fair few Audi's, amongst others an 84 B reg 200 Turbo, an Urr Quattro on an 87 D plate......showing my age. My current lineup is a 2005 S4 4.2 V8, Cab, Tip, 2016 S8 4.0 V8 TT and my latest purchase this year a manual 3.2 2007 TT Cab. having covered 60K. Interesting to make the comparison between the 3.2 Manual and Auto. I bought the TT because I missed changing gears. Now if I'd have bought an S4 with a manual , I may never have succumbed to a TT.😄😃

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words, yes you are showing your age a little ha ha, sounds like you have a nice mix of cars which is what I like because the bigger cars don't drive the same as the smaller cars even if they have less power. You can't beat the sound of a V8 but the V6 is very close. Sounds like you are well and truly a petrol head 😎

    Great video as always. Glad I got a manual as I think the DSG feels disconnected to the driver (you let the car do its thing rather than being fully connected). Regardless, would be fun to try one one day!

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  2 года назад +3

      The dsg is a totally different drive and it does depend on what you like and want to do with the car, you certainly wouldn’t be disappointed with one I’m sure but if you enjoy the manual drive then for sure

    • @christopherpardell4418
      @christopherpardell4418 7 месяцев назад

      I feel More connected with the DSG because it gives me instantaneous, perfect shifts. I just have to pay attention to controlling the car, not pushing my feet and arm about. In Sport mode it will delay shifting till redline and when decelerating will downshift earlier to keep the engine in its powerband…. But I STILL retain full control with the paddles and can override the auto system and shift as and when I choose. It’s more durable than a manual because you even if you drive it hard you CAN’T burn the clutch, can’t fail to push the clutch all the way in, can’t miss a shift or choose the wrong gear. Can’t grind a gear, can’t exceed redline and can’t lug the engine. Mine had run 132k miles without a single engine or transmission problem,
      But even better, in normal auto mode, it will drive like an automatic, which is a godsend when you are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Or when you want to have a sip of coffee. But at any moment I can tap the paddle to downshift and the car leaps forward. Or downshift as I make my exit to compression brake and extend my brake life. And that low end torque will shift the car into 6th at 35 mph and above, giving that 250 hp car a 30 mpg fuel economy.
      That is, it has all the benefits of a manual, and it has all of the benefits of an automatic, with none of the shortcomings of either an automatic nor a manual. The DSG is what every performance car should have. It’s no accident that after Audi put it in the TT and the VW, that Porsche wanted a 7 speed version for their cars. And a version for the Bugatti Veyron.

    Forget the manual. I sure wouldn’t buy a Mk 1 TT with a manual, because you can be certain a former driver mis-shifted, lugged, and ran the engine into redline. Guys mistreat manuals.
    Manuals don’t really give you greater ‘control’ than the DSG- they give you greater opportunity to damage the transmission and engine, because no one, No where, can outshift the DSG. The DSG enables me to instantly shift without moving my hand from the wheel, and if I am in normal drive mode, it will stay in manual mode for about 30 seconds, and then default back to auto shift. Which comes in handy when I suddenly have to climb a grade, or compression brake, or even instantly react to a road condition that requires horsepower.
    Or I can flip it into Sport mode, enjoy that much deeper exhaust note, and get optimal performance with optimal road holding, yet secure in the knowledge that it will still auto shift up if I hit redline, or downshift if the tach is getting near lugging. Which frees my attention for the situation on the road, and not having to keep one eye on the dash.
    I have had a 2005 3.2 DSG TT Quattro Sline for 17 years. It’s been my daily driver for nearly all that time, and it still runs perfectly. I was a little worried about all the negative predictions around how fragile and expensive the DSG would end up being, but mine has never had the slightest issue. The only time I ever had what seemed like a transmission issue, with it missing shifts, it turned out to be a bad $45 brake light switch. ( The DSG uses input from the brake switch to determine whether you are accelerating, decelerating, or driving at a steady speed so it can pre-select the correct next gear.)
    So my experience is the DSG has protected my engine and transmission. And It performs better than the performance manuals I test drove; The TT really needs that extra 25 horsepower over the 225. And it really really needs that extra low end torque.
    Additionally, because of that low end torque, the DSG will shift into 6th gear at 35 mph. Which nets me close to 30 mpg in normal drive mode.
    The Mk 1 DSG TT Quattro was the very best version of the very Best car Audi ever made. A genuinely useable sports car with some real load space. A design tour de force, that makes just enough noise, when you want it to, to be present, without annoying the hell out of everyone.

    my reasoning is as follows , if its a old car (15-20+ years) i go for manual all day , best bet is the engine is better for a manual(ie better noise fuck the power and better response from a mechanical engine) if it is a newer car (ie max 10 years) i go for auto all day , chances are the engine is shit as far as a enthusiasts and pure driving and id rather be comfy and fast as fuck . so i have a manual focus st170 with alu flywheel and auto audi b8 bought in 2016 so i have the best of both , manual focus for pleasure and auto 700+hp audi to scare the crap out of me . if it were me id get a manual vr6 with a camshaft upgrade and aluminium flywheel (i can not bear steel or twin flywheels now , who has time to wait for revvs to go up)

    I’ve just bought a 2004 3.2 DSG for £1800. I imagine I’m in for a lot of problems.

      Without any more info i would say at that price you will likely have a few things to do 😂

      @@TheParrottBros it failed it’s MOT the day before I bought it, with just a rust-holed sill. I’m hoping this can be patched. I also now notice the rear passenger wheel has too much negative camber. A small oil weep at the engine, and VCDS shows about 20 codes. I’ll fix the camber and sill, get it MOTed and see what problems I’m left with after actually driving it for a while. Might be fun, nice wee car.

      @@salzar4431 the sill will probably be a rusted cover rather than the structural sill itself. They’re a bolt on part 👍🏻

      I’ll be honest I use the paddles the least, if I’m feeling fruity I use sport mostly 😂
