Just watched the Bill Burr thing, he is a damn riot!
The bill burr commentary is gold
Do you know where that Burr clip is from? It must be his podcast?
I could listen to him do commentary on anything.
@@tattoodude8946 Check his Monday Morning Podcast.
The main issue with Blaze singing Maiden live is they wouldnt tune the songs down for him, which is why he is straining so much. Also stand by the fact that i think Cherone in Van Halen could have been great, cos extreme is amazing and Nuno Bettencourt to me is a 90s EVH
That clip they show of Maiden is when some git in the crowd was spitting on the band. Blaze and Steve lose it big time!
Blaze and Bruce have two very different singing voices but Blaze's voice just isn't meant to sing the songs Bruce did. Plus that video clip probably isn't the best one because someone just threw something at him and Steve so they were eyeballing him
Cherone was great, I watch the Philly show here on YT to reminisce. When EVH died I watched it again and cried like a baby when young Wolfie runs on stage to hug his dad during 316 😢
@@albundy8882 If you watch the full clip which is on RUclips there is an idiot at front of the crowd spitting at Steve.
David Lee Roth was the best lead singer for VH. The why is 1 big word “showmanship”. Sammy Hagar was good mind you. But DLR just had that flare.
Ray Manzarek of The Doors was actually a damn good singer! But it’s impossible to fill the shoes of the Lizard King.
Like how it's impossible to fill Freddie Mercury's shoes.
yeah man i thought the same exact thing watching that clip of him singing in this video he was even able to make his voice sound kinda jim morrison-ey/ish a-bit!!! i heard at some doors gigs jim would be so drunk, high on whatever & just too out of it & simply too messed-up to perform his duties as the doors lead vocalist!! that ray(& sometimes robby too!) would be basically forced in a way to take on double duty & not only play their own instruments! but now had to spontaneously take over lead vocals for an often way too overly intoxicated & incoherent rambling, slurring falling down drunk jim morrison!! & i think ray or robby said that they hated it because they were almost kinda timid & shy & just didn't like being in front & lead vocalist! plus!!! jim was they're lead vocalist/singer & main frontman of the doors!!...
@@dw89music73 um! i think! that! you may have! replied! to the wrong! comment!! because! Freddie Mercury!! is from! the band! Queen!!... & is NOT!!! from!! The-Doors!
@@FoolishFlock Calm down man, it was just a comparison, and a fair one at that.
They made two albums without jim and they are actually pretty good. They were flops because people didn't give it a chance without Morrison. They are not the debut or LA woman but worth checking out
Gary Cherone singing for Van Halen is kind of like when Wayne Gretzky played for the St. Louis Blues. You know it happened but it's easy to pretend it didn't happen.
True. But to be fair to Gary, if you needed someone who had a voice to somewhat be able to mimic both Dave and Sammy that has front man showmanship, he was a decent choice. Not saying it should have happened , but 😂
As a Red Wings fan, I'm happy to remember Gretzky's stint with the Blues. Him coughing up the puck to Yzerman in 2OT of game 7 lead to an epic goal I'll always remember.
Less thrilled with Gary Cherone in Van Halen. The only epic from that tenure was the epic fail of VH III.
Him and the Anthrax singer were the better ones, judging solely from this video.
Only time I saw the band was with Gary. He did fine but it also was super cringe. Hard to explain but I bet most get it.
He really wasn't that bad live
I think that Dan Nelson for Anthrax actually had some potential!
Too bad he dropped on a deuce on Frank Bello
it sounded like phil anselmo sings anthrax
I saw them open for Maiden with him, and it was not good.
Yeah he actually sounded really good. He sounded pretty close to John Bush.
I love how the band played with him and I have seen Anthrax live
Blaze Bailey was not a bad singer, at least on the studio recordings from his era of Iron Maiden, and had some brilliant songs. As others have said, he had a deeper voice and the band didn't tune down their songs to that vocal range.
well i feel like that would change the songs tho
A little. But there's gotta be some give and take within a band. Every band tunes down for the singer.
He was cool with his old band Wolfsbane, but he didn't fit at all in Iron Maiden
@@smileysatanson3404 megadeth does it for dave mustaine now
@D
Well, otherwise it would have been Mustaine to forbid Mustaine to tune down for Mustaine, right?
😝
In all respect, Ray and Robbie we're not replacements singers, they we're left without their frontman, and did a good job on the two follow up albums. As far as Blaze goes, I think he's a great singer; when he get's to do his thing (Give a listen to Wolfsbane).
Good old Ray Manzarek. May his soul rest in peace with Jim Morrison, Mr Mojo Risin', The Lizard King.
We played a show with blaze and they wanted to be the first band at at a local show … so no one showed up and he was pissed .. also he filled the stage with their instruments so they wanted us to play off stage .. so we didn’t play obviously
When did Buster Scruggs start playing guitar for L.A. Guns?
The Anthrax guy actually didn't seem so bad.
Yeah but he's no Belladonna. Tbh he's not even a John Bush
Agreed, but when he played belladonna era songs it didnt sound so hot 😅
Voice was good , he was a total douchebag .
His problem was more him personally as a person and a member of the band, as opposed to his voice. That's why he went away, there was definitely some sort of drama as he is kind of written out of the history of Anthrax.
@@austinlawler3739 he even wrote songs with them. I wonder what happened.
DO A PART 2 PLEASE THERE IS SOOOO MANY OF THEM EVEN IN THE SAME BAND
Sorry for yelling
@@c4rnas4 Sublime with Rome?

Super shocked that Ripper Owens & John Corabi didn’t make the list 🤔🤔
From what I hear Crue actually wanted to keep Corabi (who nowadays is obviously way better than Vince Neil) but their label wanted them to bring Vince back since the self titled album was a commercial failure
@@VikoTheBassist I remember hearing that!
Ripper Owens is a great singer and he nailed the songs, but he didn't have the stage persona as Halford does. And the two albums they produced with him were not that great (even tho there are bangers like burn in hell)
@@MrMCMaxLP Jugulator is a fucking monster of an album.
Because Ripper kicked ass
Gary Cherone in Van Halen, it sucks because he's a great singer
He really does have a good voice but it just didn't really fit the band.
It should have worked! But it didn't.
Songs on the album were crap anyway so he was doomed from the start
@@robertocaba5915 Apart from oner or two of them, yeah, he was in th wrong place, at the wrong time. He had to try, though.
Cherone was and still is a great singer. I saw that tour and he did a fantastic job IMO. Problem was I think the band was in a bad place and they put out a shite record, song-wise.
To be fair Gary with Van Halen could've worked if it was executed better since Gary has a great voice and he played with another one of the greatest guitarist of the late 80s/90s with Nuno Bettancourt (who was also constantly compared to EVH in terms of style) and The Doors also seemed fine since Robby and Ray have solid voices but I do understand why people didn't like it since both bands had lost killer vocalists (VH with both DLR and Sammy Hagar and The Doors obviously with Jim Morrison)
Although when Ian Astbury filled in with "The Doors of the 21st Century" he did fairly well.
Let's not call DLR a killer vocalist. A great frontman? Absolutely. A great singer? Nah
There was nothing wrong with Gary’s voice or really his performances, it was just kind of obvious he was the odd man out. What a difficult gig to step into.
Rick!
We're all just going to ignore that awkward LA GUNS intro? Okay!
Seriously, it was like he couldn't figure out if he was trying to be seductive or intimidating.
@@potsyband Right?! My mind couldn’t figure it out either and I’m just sitting here…trying to understand what that was 😆! That interaction is going to haunt my dreams. Yikes! She’s a FANTASTIC vocalist too. Maybe they both had too much “Machismo” to be on stage together. I dunno. Dilana’s a real badass.
It felt like he was confronting her 😂
I was going to ask the same. What was Tracii Guns doing there? Was he trying to confront her? Seduce her? Piss her off? Establish dominance?
I specifically went back for round two just bc that part never was explained I was like wth?!?..
Not ignoring, lol. You can't unsee.. whatever that was.
I feel bad for the bands that are going through this right now...
Bill burr. Love his style
I believe Axl Rose walks off stage during guitar solos because he feels stupid dancing around on stage while they’re going on.
Wtf has that to do with the vid? In fact, axl walks off stage for another reasons.
@@marinadiamondz Maybe its an answer to the "back against the pole" bit ?
@@louisjamin7195 I didn't saw that part. Which min?
@@marinadiamondz the quiet riot singer did that..bill burr part
??? Maybe he just wants people to GIVE the solos the attention they deserve? If he's around they won't focus as much on them.
Gary Cherone has a great voice-Tough following 2 legends
True. Also the fact the album sucked hard didn’t help.
Gary Cherone was a great singer be he wasn't cut out to be in such a huge band that sold over 50 million albums without him.
The only reason Gary Cherone didn't work for Van Halen is because of Van Halen. They wrote garbage songs and when they didn't sell, they gave him the boot. He was a good singer with good stage presence and if they gave him a little more than half a chance and pulled a Metallica and went back to writing songs in the style that made them great, he would have done fine. Instead, they threw him into a half baked album that was trying to adjust to the sound of the time and tossed him at the first sign of that recipe not working out. I have always felt that he got crapped on by Van Halen.
He was not the only one who got crapped on by the Van Halen brothers.
Dan Nelson in Anthrax (at least in the live vídeos) was kinda insteresting, imho. But his behaviour offstage blew him off.
Something happened between Anthrax and Dan Nelson because they don’t acknowledge him in anything. Even in their own 40th anniversary web series they completely ignored his time in the band.
Didn't Nelson have some kind of mental breakdown? No released recordings with him? I would ignore him too.
Yeah he fucked them over , they booked a tour in Europe and were playing Sonisphere and he just didn't show up , they couldn't get in contact with him .
He just disappeared, leaving them in the Red financially
Dan was a bully, plus he did something awful to Frankie and I suppose that was the absolute last straw. Go look around for it. It HAD to have happened because its been covered up so well.
Dan took a crap on Frank Bellos back when he was asleep on the bus as a prank, so they fired him.
@John Omenhiser wow, what a dick move. I would not find an ounce of humor in a stunt like that.
Can anyone give me a bit more background on the first band and their story. Who’s the female singer
I'm gonna defend Blaze Bayley actually. They didn't fire the legendary Bruce Dickinson, he left them. So they were right to carry on and did it respectfully by not trying to find a Bruce clone, rather someone completely different. And actually their two albums with Blaze were fantastic
Maiden's work with Blaze doesn't get enough appreciation it deserves, X Factor and Virtual XI are amazing albums 🖤
Blaze Bayley in Maiden sort of worked out, but just for the albums he sang on.
Blaze Bayley did a brilliant job for 2 albums. That's like saying Dio was bad for sabbath because he only did 3 albums.
I actually enjoyed the 2 Maiden albums with Bayley but I think the change in music/lyric direction was just too much for die hard maiden fans.
Blaze is a great signer, talent is not argued for me.
Im a die hard Maiden/Dickinson fan as most are.
Bailey didnt have the voice to replace Dickinson and even Di'Anno.
He was so different, his albums were good, but his cover of other songs, didnt sound good at all.
Signers like Michael Kiske would have been a better choice.
Bailey was literaly throwed under the bus
I was not a fan of him in Iron Maiden. It wasn't the right band for him.
Hey lets not forget The Devil You Know the technically not a Sabbath album but really its a Sabbath album.
Don't dare compare Blaze with Dio! Dio Sabbath was different but at least it had energy, Blaze sounds so subdued and quiet a lot of the times and he DOESN'T FIT the Maiden sound.
I recommend anyone who digs Blaze to check out the Wolfsbane live album they did. Absolutely amazing performance from a band who were at a crisis point.
The live video they showed was from when a fan spit or threw something at the band. They wanted that song to end and have the guy thrown out.
@@niksimmons4448 I remember something Blaze said on the live record "If you're not going to rock,Fuck off!"
Classic stuff
Blaze had that 'imma do Maiden at Karaoke night' energy, in this recording at least.
We’re talking about filling the shoes of LEGENDARY singers/frontmen. Not an easy task. I can sing lead in a cover band but wouldn’t dare attempt to sing with the actual band 😳😱😱
Ok Van Halen III wasn’t the best VH album we all got that, but, in terms of delivering the old material, I thought Gary Cherone did a well above average job. What other lineup of Van Halen would you hear good amounts of both Dave and Sammy songs in performance? Sammy would sing Panama, Jump, and that’s about it. Dave wouldn’t sing any Sammy songs.
Lol! Dan Nelson doing his best Anselmo impression.
Anybody singing for The Dead Kennedys but Jello is gonna get rejected. There's a reason they haven't released an album since he left, he was the voice and songwriter of the band.
Every drowning pool singer beside Dave.
EXACTLY
Sad thing about Gary Cherone is that he CAN sing and would have been great if Eddie let him do his thing instead of making him do an some half hearted Sammy Hagar impression.
I would add Paul Rodgers to the Queen+ line up
Paul is a phenomenal singer. I personally felt it just didn't work with Queen tho. Some frontmen are either too unique sounding or are too tied into the image of the band to be replaced. Freddie was one of those guys.
some of these who started off and stayed off key and time make me think (as a vocalist myself) that the monitors/ stage volume was too loud for them to hear themselves because you dont typically continue off key if you hear it. you correct yourself asap
It's a pity because some of these singers are pretty good. Blaze Bayley sounds pretty good in studio, and Ray Wilson as a singer is quite capable. (He sings Carpet Crawlers on Genesis Revisited II, and delivers very nicely). Another example that comes to mind is Tim 'Ripper' Owens with Judas Priest. Not a bad singer at all - he could hit the high notes just like Halford could, and the more aggressive feel of his vocals fitted the more aggressive direction the band went for Jugulator and Demolition.
It's just when you're trying to replace legends loved by the fans, you'll inevitably always come up second best.
You forgot John Corabi of Mötley Crüe.
I hope it would be a second part of this please
yeah you might find guitarists, drummers, bassplayers just as good or even better than the one they replace, finding a replacement for a singer is a whole other problem. Fans have this voice in their head and they will surely react to it.
Yep to this day I can't listen to Skid Row without Bach (And I've really tried), or Journey without Perry.
Best replacement singer ever Jon bush
I actually think that Dan Nelson totally nails Random Acts of Senseless Violence. And I saw that DK tour, packed venue, nobody seems to have given a crap if JB wasn't on stage.
Gotta love Futureal
The Angel and The Gambler.
A briefcase of lunch and a man on the edge. Each step gets closer to losing his head.
FALLING DOWN
FALLING DOWN
FALLING DOOOOOOOWN
As a big Extreme fan, Gary Cherone getting so much hate when he was in VH hurts my heart.
Yet those VH fans who were frustrated by the lengthy hiatuses of the band after he left(with a brief Dave return[in 2000],then a brief Sammy return[in 2004],and then back to Dave) did think that it actually a good idea having Gary after all,as there possibly wouldn't have been so many hiatuses had Gary remained in VH. And Mike Post wasn't the best producer for VH to collaborate with(as telling by the quality of "Van Halen 3").
@@stevenmillan9220 Maybe the smart fans but there's still hate for Gary being in VH to this day.
Axl Rose in AC-DC isnt listed?
How on earth does any vocalist fill the shoes of David, or Sammy?
That's the kind of content I wanna watch!
Personally I think that only Jello can sing for DK . That was his band , his lyrics . Nobody can ever fill his shoes .
As a huge dead Kennedys fan I agree but I thought Brandon did a good job. He didn't try to be jello and sang angrier than jello did. It's not like he didn't have punk credentials he sang for Dr.Know. Now the guy they have now sucks, he tries to sing like jello and mimicks his moves
I saw DKs with Brandon. He did a respectable job. They guy they have now (can't remember his name) absolutely sucked.
@@megadethmofo2001 yeah he tries to be jello and fails. Brandon was at least himself
Skip is meh as a frontman, but we were all there to see the rest of the band, anyway. RIP, DH
@@jlobiafra The issue is he doesnt have the personality. Jellos performance was also in his energy. Not only that, he actually knew the meanings behind what he was singing, and added personality in that regard... Brandon just basivally learned the words and sang them, but didnt really sell them because he was kinda clueless.
Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger were great singers but Jim not being up there, it wasn’t going to be the same. Like when JD Fortune joined INXS after Hutchence died.
Ray's voice was shit regardless
I never knowingly heard Gary Cherone sing before. Objectively, he sounded good! I mean, an impossible position to be in, but I dug the little I heard here.
I only know Extreme Gary's VH work from the single "Without You" but thought it was fantastic.
the worst replacement for me is adam lambert
Bill Burr on Mark Huff is a classic bit and so accurate!
The one album that ray wilson did with Genesis is one of my favorites. He had massive shoes to fill after phill left and no one really gave him much of a chance to shine.
Surprised the Sex Pistols weren't mentioned in this. Ronnie Biggs and his single he released with them is a joke. Johnny Rotten is the king of punk and he absolutely cannot be replaced, cos his vocals, lyrics, and attitude are one of the focal points of the Sex Pistols. Without him it just isn't the same.
Dude singing with Scott Ian was ridiculous
Blaze did an okay job to fill the hole that Bruce left, it's not an easy job to replace Bruce...
Should've got Billie Milano for Anthrax
I miss you Frankie every friggin` day.....forever a friend....
Ray tried, but no one can be Jim Morrison.
Blaze is underrated' great singer.
The Guns and Rose's singer when he filled in for Brian Johnson. Top of the list.
The DK's aren't the DK's without Jello. Period.
Dr. Know aren't Dr. Know without Brandon.
Jello will never come back unfortunately
@@daviddolan7674 What the hell are you talking about?
Gary Cherone is so damn good, the only guy apart from Sammy and Dave who could do those songs justice.
Also props to Dan Nelson, he sounded hard as fuck doing Random Acts with Anthrax. He nailed the John Bush stuff at least.
Brandon Cruz in the Dead Kennedys is hilarious. Youngsters should look up "The Courtship of Eddie's Father". He sounds decent in that clip.
You got sell this shit and you leaning on a pole. That audio clip from "F is for Family" got me. 🤣🤣🤣
That video with Blaze does not tell the whole story, though: He was mad someone spat on Steve and was staring at the dude, waiting for the song to end though, as it was the band's policy regarding things going wrong. Of course he wouldnt have delivered his best given the circumstances.
“You folks ready to feel the noise” 😂😂 sounds so dirty
What was wrong with Mark Wilson of Genesis? He sounded great?
The reason why Gary didn't work in Van Halen is because he sported a crew cut.
That's a super intense look lmao
I feel bad for the Genesis cover, it's honestly not his fault. The guy had to compete with not one, but two iconic legends. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins
I've never even heard they had another singer other than Peter and Phil until I saw this video
@@jlobiafra Calling All Stations is a very underrated album. Love it
Ray was in an impossible situation. His solo stuff is really good (to great)

Last one was actually pretty lit...
what is that show with quiet riot?
I would love to have an opportunity to be a failed replaced singer too.
You know it’s a good video when Bill Burr is narrating in it.
You can't count the Doors. Ray was thrown into it along with the rest of the guys. They stepped up. The last 2 albums were good.If you thought about the band without Jim...It's hard to do..But just think about The Doors If they were a band without him they were pretty solid..Great musicians
I have a list of WTF are they thinking moments.
I saw Brandon Cruz perform with the dead kennedys in New Orleans in 2002. It's kind of impossible to fill Jello's shoes but Cruz is a good frontman and did a good job.
Anthrax did an amazing job covering their 40 year history in that RUclips documentary and they completely ignored the Dan Nelson Era 😂 I think for legal reasons too
Tracii was in love with that chick, blinded by love
