@@MeM_UK Actually, Russia wanted to join NATO, and the EU community, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but was rejected, also, ridiculed, by the United States. As pointed out by George Friedman, the worse the relations between the EU and Russia, the better for the United States. A possible alliance between German technology/money and Russian manpower/natural resources would be disastrous to the U.S. - hence the proxy war with Russia. In this war everyone is a loser, except the U.S.
@magma3525 where are you getting this from? Russia has never applied to join NATO, much less been rejected. It was mooted in a meeting between putin and George Robertson, when putin asked when Russia was going to be invited. Robertson said that countries should apply and putin said he wasn't going to wait in line with countries that don't matter.
@@MeM_UK I mean, rejected in a way of being humiliated. I think, I saw a video somewhere where the American delegates laughed at Putin when he asked to be part of NATO. Any ally of Ukraine that pressures it to accept Putin's proposed “ceasefire” should agree in writing that, when Putin breaks his word, the ally will send its own troops to Ukraine to offset the advantages that Putin gained thru his ruse of a ceasefire.

To the best of my knowledge NATO prohibited Ukraine to use Western-supplied weapons against military targets inside Russia. If NATO lifts the restrictions that will lead to escalation and more deaths. It's a senseless war, because it could have been ended few weeks after the Russian invasion. This was confirmed on the Ukrainian National Media by Davyd Arakhamia, the head of Zelensky's Party faction and the leader of the peace talks in Turkey.

Well he's pretty much achieved his objectives besides creating a buffer zone.... He set out to weaken Ukrainian military capacity and the fact that the army is dependent on foreign aid and has no soldiers, I think he achieved that. Sadly all this could have been avoided with a neutral state solution.
