China's president Xi Jinping has refused to rule out the use of force to "reunite" Taiwan with the mainland. Chinese leaders consider it to be unfinished business from the civil war. But Taiwan is not a pushover. It ranks 24th on the global firepower index, ahead of NATO members like Sweden and Canada. The island's defence spending rose 5% annually under the previous president and now stands at 2.5% of the national GDP. An invasion of the island would also require China to ferry tens of thousands of soldiers across the choppy waters of the Taiwan strait, an operation that could last days. Considering these risks and the global fallout, will Xi Jinping go ahead with the invasion? Palki Sharma tells you.

Taiwan is an island so that’s already difficult for china, and it’s also a lost.
Taiwan is indeed difficult to invade for China, but China has some advantages over the US and its allies in Asia as well.
Firstly, China can gain the support from Pakistan and North Korea. Pakistan is a long supporter of China, however despite hostilities toward Iran, China recently called for a ceasefire between the two nations (Iran and Pakistan) after a recent Iranian strike into Pakistani soil, and what happened? Tensions deescalated. Pakistan also shares a common rival with China: India. North Korea can help China ward off South Korean, Japanese, and US forces.
Secondly, China is taking advantage of the upcoming US elections. Xi Jinping knows how Trump and Biden would respond to wars, simply because both have been in power already. China is preparing for either scenario in which either Trump or Biden gets elected into power.
China's military is also another advantage. Ever since Russias invasion of Ukraine, China has been spending massively on its military. The US had not been paying attention to this, as Russias war on Ukraine as well as Iran's proxy warfare on Israel have shifted the US focus towards these two points of interests. China tried to deny any claims to begin an invasion of Taiwan, despite clear steps taken towards invasion.
Biden should focus on all fronts from Ukraine, to Taiwan, and most importantly Israel.
