Hi Sun, I really enjoy all your videos. They are very informative. I have 3 questions, first is this worth doing if I’m using Ethernet connection? Second is this worth doing if I only use my home network? Third can I just spoof the MAC address and not the name or do you recommend doing both? Thanks again, keep making those videos.
Glad this content is helpful to others. #1 Depends if you trust the network. #2 Depends if you only use that computer on your home network + #1. #3 I recommend spoofing both, but you can edit the script to only spoof the MAC. Depending on your use case, I believe there is little to loose if you spoof both by default. That being said, the script in the reference material only spoofs the MAC address of the Wi-Fi interface (en0).

Hey Sun, is there any benefit in spoofing my MAC address and hostname if i only use my computer in my home network?
like i'm dum but like how do you open the johndoe bash?
How would you go about spoofing on High Sierra? I've been having trouble using different methods of spoofing my mac and I've been told it has something to do with my version? The version is High Sierra 10.13.6 and the machine has stopped receiving updates. All the information I've found on it leads me to an apple forum where everyone comes to the same conclusion of it not working anymore
Great tutorial. Can this also be done while Vpn is running/activated?
Absolutely... MAC addresses spoofing operates one level bellow VPNs.
@@sunknudsen Thanks for responding. I've been binge watching your video's, as I've been hacked and I'm beinf cyber stalked. Can I hire your services by any chance?
Hi, is possible to spoof only the MAC address on boot? Not the host name but only the MAC address? Thanks.
If someone uses an old phone like back in the days with those nokia phones, would 2 step authentication be easily access by hackers as opposed to a current up-to-date smartphone? thanks
Have you watched the 2FA and SMS episodes? Short story is that using SMS for 2FA is not recommended because of SIM swap attacks.
How do you reset all this?? Trying to change my address to my original
Hey, instructions are available on sunknudsen.com/privacy-guides/how-to-spoof-mac-address-and-hostname-automatically-at-boot-on-macos#want-things-back-the-way-they-were-before-following-this-guide-no-problem.
Im looking up how to do this on windows... all i can find is videos where people change the address with gibberish, but it only applies once and doesnt change with reboot ( as far as i know). The guy did it through the device manager and confirmed the changes in cmd. Would love to set up this same script function in windows if anyone knows of good resources
Could this work even you got blocked?
wait so if your mac has a T2 chip but on catalina, spoofing mac address script works?
I believe so... see github.com/feross/SpoofMAC/issues/87. Both SpoofMAC and this guide use similar techniques to spoof MAC address.
@@sunknudsen does that still mean my mac address is spoofed because in settings it shows my hardware mac address but in terminal shows a spoofed mac. In sharing category. it shows a different hostname so I know that is working, but the spoofed mac unsure.
@@sunknudsendo you have fire wall turned on or keep off?
hey @sun knudsen i did this and cant seem to get my old mac address back?
And what should i be seeing when i type in ifconfig after it is changed because a whole lot of stuff comes up now that ive done this.
sorry i really am not computer savvy.
thanks
Have you tried following these steps? sunknudsen.com/privacy-guides/how-to-spoof-your-mac-address-and-hostname-automatically-at-boot-on-macos#want-things-back-the-way-they-were-before-following-this-guide-no-problem
@@sunknudsen I did and it’s still not working.
It actually showed up as illegal username imagine that.i had this MacBook less than 2 weeks bro
catalina 10.15.7 on mbp 2015, doesn't work. the ifconfig command works on terminal, ifconfig will show the new Mac address, but it really doesn't take it. it will show on terminal, but if you look on anywhere on system info, option-click on the wifi icon, still shows the old Mac address and still registers with that Mac not the one I entered.
Hey Ricardo, I believe what you are experiencing is normal... the hardware MAC (which is hard coded to the chip) will always be the one you see in System Preferences / Network / Wi-Fi. The spoofed MAC is what people will see on the network (try checking which MAC is associated to your private IP on the router's DHCP leases table).
@@sunknudsen that's wonderful. Your video really helped me save lot of time searching to find the solution. Although I wonder where I could find the DHCP lease table. I have to google that now. But still your comment made my day...
just wondering, what is mibbit.com i see something like "IRS" under Firefox preferences > general > applications (Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web or the applications you use while browsing.) > content type > irc, ircs, mailto, PDF (these are the 4 contents). So under "Action" theres an option to use "mibbit" and in application details it says This application is hosted at "www.mibbit.com/?url=%s".
Is this something to be concerned about? anything to do with hackers? thanks
Not sure I got it: will this work with a mac with a t2 chip and Catalina installed?
When you use Time Machine do you get your spoofed computer name as the directory for the backups?
Strange, but yes.
